1. Argentine Police Arrest Suspect Planning Attack on Jewish Center as Row Over AMIA Bombing Investigation Continues

Police in the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires, have arrested a 57 year-old man suspected of planning an attack on the Sociedad Hebraica, a local Jewish community center.

JTA reported that Argentina’s national security secretary, Sergio Berni, said that police received an alert a week ago from Interpol of a possible plot to attack the center. The suspect was arrested Tuesday at an Internet cafe in Buenos Aires by the Anti-Terrorist Division of the Federal Police.

Berni declined to provide additional details other than to say that 1,500 security personnel had been deployed to 99 sites in the last week, which coincided with the Jewish High Holidays season. After a bomb threat posted on Facebook last week, the Sociedad Hebraica was evacuated last Thursday night (October 2) and was closed the following day (on the eve of Yom Kippur)  for security reasons.

2. Briton dies of suspected Ebola in Macedonia – despite NOT having been to Africa: Armed guards outside hotel after virus ‘claims first British victim’ 

A second man, a friend of the deceased, has also shown symptoms of the disease. The man’s death and nationality was confirmed by the Macedonian Foreign Ministry this evening.

The spokesman said the friend told the authorities there they had travelled to Skopje directly from Britain and had not been in any country known to have Ebola outbreaks – raising the terrifying possibility that he contracted the disease in the UK or Macedonia.

The UK Foreign Office says it is investigating the incident. So far the epidemic, the worst on record since Ebola was discovered in 1976, has claimed 3,800 lives and infected at least 8,000 people.

Islamic terrorists have entered the United States through the Mexican border and Homeland Security sources tell Judicial Watch that four have been apprehended in the last 36 hours by federal authorities and the Texas Department of Public Safety in McAllen and Pharr.

JW confirmed this after California Congressman Duncan Hunter, a former Marine Corp Major and member of the House Armed Services Committee, disclosed on national television that at least ten Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) fighters have been caught crossing the Mexican border in Texas. The veteran lawmaker got the astounding intel straight from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Homeland Security agency responsible for guarding the 1,933-mile southern border.

5. Denmark: New refugee proposals: Send them back 

Two opposition parties have seriously ratcheted up the rhetoric in the ongoing debate about Denmark’s responsibility to take in refugees.

The right-wing Danish People’s Party (DF) and the libertarian party Liberal Alliance (LA) are calling for Denmark to stop accepting refugees and instead send them back where they came from and offer them help closer to home.

    “People arriving in the UK from areas hit by Ebola face “enhanced screening” for the virus at Heathrow, Gatwick and Eurostar terminals. Downing Street said passengers would be asked questions and potentially given a medical assessment. It comes as Whitehall sources say it is “very unlikely” a British man who died in Macedonia on Thursday could have contracted the disease.

    The UK Foreign Office had said it was urgently investigating the reports. The unnamed man, who Macedonian authorities said was 57, was admitted to hospital at 15:00 local time (14:00 BST) and died two hours later, the country’s health ministry said.
    He had been vomiting, had a fever and was bleeding internally. There were “high chances” it was not an Ebola case, the the ministry added. But in a statement it said officials had followed World Health Organization procedure in closing the hotel where the man was staying and placing the residents in quarantine.

    A Macedonian government spokesman said the man’s travelling companion – also British and aged 72 according to authorities – said they had travelled directly from the UK to Skopje and had not been to any affected areas. He is under observation in hospital, as is the ambulance crew who treated the dead man. Dr Brian McCloskey, from Public Health England, said he was aware of the reports but added: “We understand Ebola to be unlikely as the cause of death but will continue to work with partners to investigate.”

    The outbreak has already killed more than 3,000 people and infected more than 7,200 – mostly in West Africa.

    People leaving areas affected by the outbreak have been subject to checks for some weeks, although people do not become infectious until they display symptoms. Earlier this week a Spanish nurse became the first person to contract the deadly virus outside of West Africa…”

    “Australia has carried out its first bombing raid in Iraq on what officials said was an Islamic State facility.

    Two bombs were dropped from a Super Hornet fighter jet. Authorities said all aircraft involved in the raid had returned safely to base.

    Warplanes had aborted a previous airstrike over the weekend because of concerns about civilians.

    Australia is part of a US-led international coalition conducting air strikes against IS militants.

    The country has sent 600 troops and eight combat aircraft – comprising six Super Hornets, a surveillance aircraft and a refueler – to join the mission, which is being conducted in Iraq and Syria.

    But the BBC’s Phil Mercer in Sydney says Australia faces legal and diplomatic obstacles that prevent its forces from targeting militants in Syria.

    Defence officials said on Wednesday that Australian jets had flown several missions over northern Iraq, without firing weapons, since Australia committed to combat last week….”

    “Turkey’s foreign minister says it cannot be expected to lead a ground operation against Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria on its own. Mevlut Cavusoglu also called for the creation of a no-fly zone over its border with Syria after talks in Ankara with new Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg.

    Turkey is under intense pressure to do more to help Kurdish forces fighting IS in the strategic Syrian town of Kobane. Reports say IS has been pushed back towards the outskirts of Kobane.

    Earlier monitoring group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, quoting “reliable sources”, said IS controlled a third of the town and was advancing towards the centre from eastern districts….”

  8. Egypt can fight “terrorism” with moderate Islamic thought: US special envoy on ISIS

    Egypt’s foreign affairs minister Sameh Shouky met earlier Thursday with retired US general John Allen, American special envoy for US led coalition against ISIS.

    The two discussed ways to confront ISIS and support the Iraqi government which is facing a growing jihadist insurgency.

    […]During their meeting minister Shoukry explained Egypt’s vision for counterterrorism in the region which focuses on drying up the finances of “terrorist organisations.”

    Abdel-Atti added that General Allen stressed the important role Egypt could play in fighting radical religious thought and spreading moderate Islamic teachings through its Al-Azhar organisation.

  9. #4 The Border Patrol says they capture about 30% of the people trying to illegally cross the southern border, many others say the figure is more like 10%. Either way a lot more made it across then were caught.

    UK Prime Minister David Cameron said during the reception that he gave to British Muslim community representatives on the occasion of Eid al-Adha holiday in his official residence on Friday that Islamic State in Iraq and The Levant (ISIL) and the appalling things that they do have nothing to do with the great religion of Islam.

    Starting his speech saying “Assalmu Aleykum”, Cameron expressed his thanks to British Muslims due to their stance against ISIL and their terrorist acts by kicking off a campaign with the motto of saying “not in my name”. UK Premier also described Islam as the religion of peace inspiring daily acts of kindness and generosity.

    Cameron also underscored in his speech that feast of sacrifice demonstrates how close together Islam and Christianity are. “We are thinking of sacrifice and we are thinking of compassion. We are thinking of the moment that Abraham showed his readiness to sacrifice his son to god. But god said no you must take a lamb instead. This is the same in my Bible as it is the same in your Koran. But what I love what with you have done with the festive of the Eid is that you have taken it one stage further and said that lamb should be sacrificed in three ways – for family, for friends and neighbors and then a third those who are neediest in our society and in our country. That lesson of sacrifice and compassion is in the heart of Eid,” UK Premier added.
