   Anja Wolz, emergency coordinator for Doctors Without Borders, spoke to CNN on Tuesday from an Ebola facility in Kailahun, Sierra Leone.

   “I think that the government and the ministry of health here in Sierra Leone is not able to deal with this outbreak. We need much more help from international organizations — as WHO, as CDC, as other organizations — to come to support the government,” Wolz said.

   “Still we have unsafe burials; people who are doing the burial without disinfection of the body; still we have patients who are hiding themselves; still we have patients or contacts of patients who are running away because they are afraid.”

   Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia are at the center of an Ebola outbreak that has already killed more than 800 people….”

   “The director of Iraq’s largest hydroelectric dam shot down reports Monday that it had been seized by the radical Islamic State, saying Kurdish forces fended off an assault.

   Fighters with the Islamic State, formerly the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, were pushed back after gaining access to a housing compound for employees who work at the dam just north of Iraq’s second largest city, Mosul, Abdul Khaliq al-Dabbagh, the director of the Mosul Dam, said.

   Conflicting reports about who was in control of the dam on the Tigris River began Sunday amid news of fierce fighting between Islamic State fighters and Kurdish forces, known as Peshmerga.

   A Kurdish commander told CNN on Sunday that ISIS had taken control of it, though employees remained at the dam. But al-Dabbagh said the Peshmerga held their positions until reinforcements arrived early Monday morning….”

4. Sunday’s “appalling” “horrifying” “indefensible” Gaza school attack now appears to be staged

   The account promoted by Hamas and repeated by the United States and the U.N. on Sunday was that an Israeli mortar hit a U.N. school, killing 10 people, including children. However, evidence is emerging that the Israeli strike hit outside of the school and the bodies were moved into the courtyard to make it look like Israel hit the school.

   “A city in China’s restive Xinjiang region has banned those in Islamic headscarves and with beards from public transport, a state paper says. Officials in Karamay said the ban, which prohibits headscarves, partial face veils and burkas, would last until 20 August due to a local sports event.

   Xinjiang, home to the Muslim Uighur minority, has seen an upsurge in violence in recent months. Authorities have blamed Uighur separatists for the violence.

   In a report by the Karamay Daily which was carried by national media outlets, officials listed the “five types of people” who would be banned from public transport. They are people wearing headscarves, veils, burkas, clothes with the crescent moon and star symbol, and “youths with long beards”.

   “Passengers who do not co-operate, particularly the ‘five types of people’, will be reported to the police,” said the report, which added that all commuters would be subject to bag checks…”

   RIYADH/JEDDAH: The Saudi man who was suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus died on Wednesday in Jeddah, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
   Ibrahim Al-lZahrani, a businessman in his 40s, passed away at the King Fahd Hospital, where he was admitted Monday night after showing symptoms of viral hemorrhagic fever.
   Preliminary testing at a specialized laboratory was negative for Dengue virus. Additional tests were carried out to determine if the source of the infection is yellow fever, Alkhumra or another virus.
   The MOH has submitted samples of the patient to an international reference laboratory in the United States as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Additional samples are being sent to an accredited laboratory in Germany.
   Preparations for burial will be performed at the hospital in keeping with Islamic religious practices and international guidelines for patients suspected of having an infectious disease like Ebola.

   Pilgrims from Ebola-endemic countries will be identified at disembarkation points in the Kingdom. The ministry has fielded special teams at air, land and sea entry points to identify pilgrims who are suffering from the disease.

10. FRANCE – Ethnic riots in Calais as Albanian gangs charge African migrants for access to port area

    More than 51 east African migrants desperate to reach the “El Dorado” of the UK were injured in ethnic clashes early today in Calais over access to lorry parks, in the second night of rioting near the ferry terminal.

    Charity workers say the authorities are “overwhelmed” by a recent increase in the numbers of migrants in Calais which now totals 1,300. The clashes involved Sudanese fighting Eritrean and Ethiopian migrants, with sticks, iron bars and stones. The violence prompted local authorities to send in riot police on Monday, but they failed to quell the battles which drew in 300 people overnight.

    • From what I’ve read on the wiki for this outbreak, there is no effective treatment for Ebola. It is a recover or die scenario. It’s true that some medicines might ameliorate specific symptoms, but there is no treatment for the disease.
      Once in a hospital, one’s family members and friends could come into contact with the fluids that spread the disease.
      They’re trying to choose the lesser of several evils.

12. Aug 6 2014 – Iraqi government air strike on Islamic State court kills 60

    An Iraqi government air strike on a Sharia court set up by Islamic State militants in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul killed 60 people on Wednesday, the office of the prime minister’s military spokesman said.

    The Islamic State judge who ran the court was among those killed, the spokesman said. The Sunni militants routinely hand down sentences such as beheadings.

    Iraq TV: Airstrike kills 60 militants in north

    About 300 people who were in the militants’ custody were set free

    Baghdad: An Iraqi army airstrike in the militant-held northern city of Mosul on Wednesday killed 60 fighters from the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group, Iraq’s state television reported.

    The claim could not be independently verified and the area was inaccessible to most media.

    According to the report, which cited unnamed intelligence officials, the dawn strike targeted a downtown Mosul prison that was being used by Isil members as a religious court and detention facility.

    The TV said 60 militants were killed in the strike and about 300 people who were in the militants’ custody were set free. The report did not say if there were other casualties besides the militants and did not say who freed the prisoners or how.

    Extremists from the Al Qaida-breakaway Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant seized Mosul, Iraq’s largest second-largest city, in a blitz offensive in June that also captured large swaths of the country’s north and west. The militant onslaught plunged Iraq into its worst crisis since the withdrawal of US troops in 2011.

    The group has since imposed a self-styled caliphate in territory it controls in Iraq and Syria, imposing the militants’ harsh interpretation of Sharia.

    Iraqi government forces and allied Sunni tribal militiamen have been struggling to dislodge the militants from the area they captured, but with no apparent progress.

    A Mosul resident, speaking on condition of anonymity fearing for his own safety, told The Associated Press over the phone that families of the prisoners rushed to the site to help their kin after the airstrike.

    “The prison was partly damaged in the airstrike,” he said, adding that he did not know if there were casualties.?

    The US Treasury Department today added three “key terrorist financiers” to its list of Specially Global Terrorists; two of them support the Al Nusrah Front and the other is an Islamic State financier/facilitator. All three terrorists are linked to Kuwait.

    The two Al Nusrah Front financiers/facilitators, Shafi Sultan Mohammed al-Ajmi and Hajjaj Fahd Hajjaj Muhammad Sahib al-‘Ajmi, “are Kuwait-based,” Treasury stated. The Islamic State financier/facilitator, ‘Abd al-Rahman Khalaf ‘Ubayd Juday’ al-‘Anizi, has been involved with al Qaeda since 2008, transfers funds from Kuwait to Syria, has helped move fighters from Kuwait to Afghanistan, and has worked with “Iran-based al Qaeda facilitator
