1. UK: Seven controlled explosions after dangerous substance found
Bomb disposal experts have carried out seven controlled explosions at a Derbyshire home where a highly dangerous substance was found, ITV News Central can reveal.
Police say the substance they have been dealing with is so volatile that at least one of the explosions was carried out a mile away from the scene.

Boko Haram kidnaps wife of Cameroon’s vice PM, kills at least three (Reuters, July 27, 2014)

“The wife of Cameroon’s vice prime minister was kidnapped and at least three people were killed in an attack by Boko Haram militants in the northern town of Kolofata on Sunday, Cameroon officials said.
A local religious leader, or lamido, named Seini Boukar Lamine, who is also the town’s mayor, was kidnapped as well, in a separate attack on his home.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Boko Haram, the Nigerian Islamist militant group, has stepped up cross-border attacks into Cameroon in recent weeks as Cameroon has deployed troops to the region, joining international efforts to combat the militants.
“I can confirm that the home of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali in Kolofata came under a savage attack from Boko Haram militants,” Issa Tchiroma told Reuters by telephone.
“They unfortunately took away his wife. They also attacked the lamido’s residence and he was also kidnapped,” he said, and at least three people were killed in the attack.
A Cameroon military commander in the region told Reuters that the vice prime minister, who was at home to celebrate the Muslim feast of Ramadan with his family, was taken to a neighboring town by security officials….”

ISRAEL – Border Police stop suspected bombing attack during arrest at West Bank checkpoint
Border Police officers stopped what they suspect was a potential terror attack Sunday, when they arrested a man at a West Bank junction they said was carrying an explosive device in his car.
The Border Police said mid-day on Sunday that the man pulled up at a checkpoint near Beitar Ilit in the West Bank and almost instantly the officers found something suspicious about the man. They asked the man, who apparently was wearing a wig, large sunglasses, and acting “in a strange manner” to stop the car, but he refused.
At this point, one of the officers reached inside to grab the keys from the ignition, at which point the man stepped on the gas and started driving off, while the officer was still hanging halfway out the window, according to the Border Police.
The officer, however, managed to pull his service handgun and cock it, and ordered the man to stop, at which point he managed to pull the man out of the car and they rolled to the side of the road.
The man was arrested and handed over to the Shin Bet General Security Service for questioning. Inside his car officers found pipe bombs, gas canisters, explosives, and a detonator, according to a statement put out by the IDF after the incident. The officer who arrested the man said the back seats of the car had been removed and the entire area was full of gas canisters rigged with electric wires.

IRAQ – Islamic State militants destroy historic Prophet Jirjis Mosque and Shrine in Mosul
Residents of the Iraqi city of Mosul say militants with the Islamic State group have destroyed another historic mosque and shrine
Mosul residents said the Prophet Jirjis Mosque and Shrine was bombed by Islamic State militants late Sunday, the latest casualty in a week that has seen a half dozen of Mosul’s most revered holy places destroyed. They spoke anonymously to The Associated Press for fear of reprisal.
The Islamic State group launched an aggressive offensive through western and northern Iraq beginning late last year and took over Mosul in June.
Among the mosques destroyed in Mosul last week are the Mosque of the Prophet Sheeth (Seth) and the Mosque of the Prophet Younis, or Jonah, said to be the burial place of the Prophet Jonah.
