(I understand why this woman had to take a position that would allow her to survive her experience both mentally as well as physically. But her personal approach is collective suicide. The rest of us need to take the approach that this can never be able to happen to another human being)

    I cannot even begin to imagine what rape must be like for a woman, that sense of invasion, that brutality, that sense of powerlessness, that violation, that betrayal, that abandonment and the echoes of that, all of that…..the nightmares as the grunting drooling rapists visit night after terrible night…….its beyond my range of comprehension.

    But for that, I suppose to forgive is a slice of divinity….perhaps…..but to maintain that relationship, if one can call it a relationship..?…….that’s a sickness.

    Personally, regardless of the teachings of the Christ, I would want these men dead, every single one, dead……end their bloodline, remove them from the gene-pool.

    Will she promoting, like BBC’s Lyse Doucet, the “humanity of the Taliban?”

    Remember that Christianity came before Islam so Mohammed had the opportunity to custom make his religion with features that make it triumphant over Christianity. There’s even a hadith about the “kindhearted enemy”. No kidding! So, when people try to counter Islamic barbarity with Christian forgiveness, the barbarians just laugh because they can see that passive-aggressive crap coming from a mile away – and it doesn’t work on Muslims. You can forgive them all day long and they’ll still cut your throat…

I am disappointed it will be made into a film as it merely glorifies persistently stupid behaviour and irresponsible, thrill seeking actions against all sane advice from family and official government bureaucrats. It will instead romanticize the very same thing that is driving many young and misguided westerners to Syria/Iraq today.

    I bought and read her book soon after she released it – and quite honestly – it seemed pretty clear she developed a “stockholm syndrome” during the ordeal. As to the accounts of rape and sexual assault – well, I found the descriptions disturbingly vague and indeterminate – sort of like the delicate skyward pan/cutaway shots of 1950 movies.

    But I have little doubt she was abused in captivity – despite her attempts to appear converted to Islam and gain protection from these mistreatments by her young captors and guards. As one might expect from such a lawless, remote and punitive culture these crimes did not appear to be officially sanctioned but more likely ignored as a spoil of war to keep the rabble guards satisfied and keep a kafir in her place. After a failed escape attempt – it seemed likely this terrible treatment escalated and caused her great anguish and despair. Because of these experiences and sense of loss and loneliness she often found herself “transported” into an imaginary “House in the Sky” where she would relive positive memories in her childhood and have dreamlike extensions of returning to them. This imaginary place became the title of her book.
