1. EXCLUSIVE: Bergdahl declared jihad in captivity, secret documents show
U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl at one point during his captivity converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a “mujahid,” or warrior for Islam, according to secret documents prepared on the basis of a purported eyewitness account and obtained by Fox News.
The reports indicate that Bergdahl’s relations with his Haqqani captors morphed over time, from periods of hostility, where he was treated very much like a hostage, to periods where, as one source told Fox News, “he became much more of an accepted fellow” than is popularly understood. He even reportedly was allowed to carry a gun at times.
2. Pakistani woman survives after being shot for marrying for love
(Reuters) – An 18-year-old Pakistani has survived being shot and thrown in a canal by her family for marrying the man she loved, police said, weeks after the “honor killing” of another woman drew worldwide condemnation. Ali Akbar, a local police official, said Saba Maqsood had been attacked and shot by her father, uncle, brother and aunt and thrown into the waterway in the city of Hafizabad in Punjab province.
“It is an honor-related incident,” Akbar told Reuters.
“The victim, Saba … married her neighbor Muhammad Qaiser for love five days ago against the wishes of her family. They took her to Hafizabad, shot her twice and threw her in the canal after putting her in a sack, presuming that she was dead.”

(Personally I think one potential or at least partial definition of a totalitarian state is one in which you live in constant fear as you never know if what you have said, thought or done is illegal or not. If it will I doubt highly that this person knew what he said would cost any jail time or police interest whatsoever. The brother of a Sudanese woman facing the death penalty for ‘abandoning her Islamic faith’ has said she ‘should be executed’ if she continues to be a Christian.
Meriam Ibrahim, who gave birth to a daughter in her prison cell last week, has been sentenced to 100 lashes and death by hanging after a Sharia court convicted her for converting to Christianity, and ‘adultery’ because she had wed a non-Muslim.
Today her brother Al Samani Al Hadi told CNN that he had denounced his sister to the authorities because his family are ‘Muslim people.’

“What if that war had never taken place? What if the Arabs and Israelis had entered into a dialogue to sort out the issues or simply put, what if both sides had looked for common ground between them?
Wars have never resolved any conflict and one loses nothing with simple round table negotiations even at a very low level or unofficial debates. Last week Prince Turki Al-Faisal and a retired general from Israel, Amos Yadin, debated the issue in Brussels.
During and after the debate, the reactions and the articles written on the subject took me aback.
The debate was followed and talked about more than the official visits of US Secretary of State John Kerry. Why the attention? People had been longing to see simple and genuine talks or perhaps it was the first Saudi-Israeli face-to-face (though unofficial) contact. Or may be Saudi Arabia is very trustworthy in any negotiations?

Saudi Arabia is a country that commands great respect in the world and is one of the most influential countries. The Kingdom had played crucial role in the resolution of this conflict in the past.
The debate highlighted the need for face-to-face talks. The Israeli retired general did not only offer a glass of water to Prince Turki but also invited him to address the Israeli Knesset. [My emphasis.]

IRAQ – Friday – June 06 2014 – Suicide bombers, fighting kill 36 in northern Iraq
Twin suicide bombings targeting Iraq’s Shabak minority and fighting between security forces and militants killed 36 people in the northern province of Nineveh on Friday, officials said.
Provincial capital Mosul is one of Iraq’s most dangerous cities, with well-entrenched militant groups carrying out almost daily attacks.
The two suicide bombers blew up vehicles in the Shabak village of Al-Muwaffaqiyah, east of the city, killing four people and wounding 45, police and medical officials said.
Most of Iraq’s 30,000 Shabaks follow a blend of Shia Islam and local beliefs viewed as heretical by Sunni extremists, and they have been periodically targeted for attack.
