1. Books containing references to Ann Frank destroyed and vandalized. In Japan.

(There are persistent rumors that Japan is somehow miraculously tard-free. These are untrue. But the culprit is still a matter of speculation. But it is important to add this variable back to the mix)

2. Caroline Glick: Rousing the Americans from their slumber

In an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times Wednesday, former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton warned his countrymen of the disaster that awaits them if President Barack Obama does not change the course of US Middle East policy.

Bolton warned that Obama’s three-pronged policy, based on three negotiation tracks with Iran, Syria, and the Palestinians and Israel, will almost certainly fail in its entirety.

In his words, “Iran will emerge more powerful, verging on deliverable nuclear weapons, while still financing and arming terrorists worldwide. [Syrian President Bashar] Assad seems likely to survive, which is bad enough by itself, but it will be compounded by the affirmation it affords Iranian and Russian strength. Israel will trust Wash – ington even less than now, and ironically, Palestinians will be even more anti-American, because Obama will not be able to deliver to them the Israeli concessions he predicted.”

3. Nasiim Ahmed, working with BBC Inside Out, discovered a group of clinics in Singapore which were willing to provide a form of female genital mutilation called Sunat.

(Warning: Autostart video at BBC site)

Of the six clinics she contacted, she found three willing to undertake female genital mutilation, a form of circumcision for young women.

Although Sunat is legal in Singapore, it is illegal for British parents to take their daughters there to undergo the procedure.

5. British suspect planned attacks on U.S., UK, France targets, Kenyan court hears

(Reuters) – British national Jermaine Grant, on trial in Kenya accused of planning an attack there, was targeting British, French and U.S. interests, a London detective told the court on Tuesday.

Kenyan police suspect Grant, from east London, has ties to the Somali al Shabaab rebel group blamed by the authorities for a string of attacks in the port city of Mombasa, the capital Nairobi and in the remote hinterlands bordering Somalia.

Nottingham’s skyline will feature a minaret for the first time with the opening of a new mosque that its founders say will “help create a multicultural society”.

And the committee behind the project says it may apply for planning permission to issue a call to prayer in the afternoons at a later date.

7. Adviser Fired by Obama for Hamas Meeting Gets Top WH Security Job

A radical foreign policy adviser fired by President Obama years ago for meeting with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas has been hired by the White House to be the senior director at the National Security Council (NSC).

How generous of the commander-in-chief to let bygones be bygones when it comes to this extremist, a Middle East “expert” named Robert Malley whose family had close ties to Yasser Arafat, founder of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Fatah movement. Malley was an adviser in Bill Clinton’s White House and he consistently exonerates Palestinians and condemns Israel.

Thank you Fjordman, and a lot of people who sent material in. More to come.

  1. Following on the Trifkovic interview, here is my blog entry on Ukraine and on Bosnia. The usual suspects are mentioned except for Islam. There is a disjointed approach being taken by the likes of the EU & US compared to what happening in the Middle East.

  2. 3/ A coming-of-age exhibit in the Islamic Museum in Georgetown (on Penang) used to matter-of-factly describe FGM as standard practice for Muslim girls in Malaysia. No doubt there are a lot more clinics pleased to get British business there.

  3. #1 A good friend of mine lived in Japan for five years working in the car industry. The Japanese are – or at least were – very strict about who was allowed to immigrate. The department that deals with settling foreigners in the country speaks and writes only in Japanese. If you can’t speak and read Japanese, you are screwed. If you need translation, you have to make your own arrangements. Compare this with the UK, where my local council publishes in dozens of different languages, and has a permanent army of translators, as over 150 languages are spoken in the borough.

  4. #2 Americans are slow to anger but they are getting mad, all that really needs to happen is for some believable leader to step up.
