Serial rapist sentenced to death in Saudi
A Saudi court sentenced a local man to death after he was convicted of raping and torturing 8 girls aged between 8 and 12 years.
The court in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah found the man, in his 30s, guilty of stalking little girls, forcing them in his car and taking them to his house.
The defendant has denied he committed such crimes but witnesses and DNA tests proved he was the rapist.
Newspapers said the man, who is married with four children, had stalked little girls at shopping malls and lured them with sweets as they stepped away from parents.

15 Saudi girls arrested at cocktail party
Saudi Arabia’s feared religious police arrested 15 female university students during a cocktail party that also involved 5 men.
Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice raided a rest house in the western town of Taif after receiving information about plans to stage a concert that will include music and dancing.
Newspapers said the five male students managed to escape while all the 15 girls were arrested. They said police seized a large amount of “pies, sweets and juice” at the party.
Men and women are not allowed to interact in conservative Saudi Arabia unless they are closely related.

Broken begging bowl leads to attack on mosque in Myanmar
Myanmar police on Tuesday detained a Muslim woman under suspicion of knocking a Buddhist monk’s begging bowl out of his hands, sparking an attack on a mosque and raising tensions.
“We had to detain the women to control the potential unrest in the region,” said a senior police official, who asked to remain anonymous.
The Information Ministry identified the woman as Win Win Sein.
The incident occurred early Tuesday as a novice monk, under the age of 20, was making his rounds collecting food in his begging bowl in Okkan district, 60 kilometres north of Yangon.
The Okkan township was place under a partial night curfew, outlawing the gathering of more than five people, Okkan Police spokesman Soe Myint said.
Buddhist residents responded to the alleged provocation by attacking a Muslim—owned shop and a mosque, causing minor damages, police said.
The situation had been brought under control by 3 pm, police said.
The seemingly minor incident comes at a time of heightened sectarian tensions in predominantly Buddhist Myanmar.
In March, an altercation at a Muslim’s gold shop in Meiktila, central Myanmar, turned into a bloody riot that left at least 44 dead and over 8,000 people homeless.
Last year some 192 people were slain in sectarian clashes between Buddhist and Rohingya—Muslim communities in the Rakhine state in western Myanmar.
An estimated 125,000 displaced by the fighting in te Rakhine remain in refugee camps today, many of which are unprepared for the approaching rainy season, according to Human Rights Watch.
The group accused the government of complicity in what it termed ” ethnic cleansing” in the Rakhine last year.

Burma proposes family planning regime to control Muslims
Burma should place limits on the growth of Muslims by introducing a family planning programme in areas where sectarian clashes organised by Buddhists have killed hundreds, an official report has said.
Phil Robertson, deputy Asia director of Human Rights Watch, said the recommendation that the population Muslims should be controlled in the long term was outrageous.
“It’s quite chilling to start talking about limiting births of one particular group,” he said. “Will coercive measures get taken on the ground even if the union government says people can take this voluntarily?”
The report said concerns expressed by Buddhists in Rakhine state over the rising population of Muslims they see as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh had “undermined peaceful coexistence” between the two groups. It said the introduction of family planning education “would go some way to mitigating” the crisis.
