Yes leftists who hand out the vast vast majority of arts grants are ultra-politically-correct and will crush any artist who dares speak up against totalitarian Islam and/or communism. But in the long term artists had better recognize that if they want to do their art at all, grant or no, they had better look at who the real enemies of free-expresion is.
From ICLA:
I’ve said this before, but come an Islamic tyranny, the Leftists will be the hardest hit. There will be no more ‘art’ for them. All the Lesbian theatre workshops, ‘save the planet’ in the medium of dance, hug-a-tree marionette performances, or ethnic new age cabaret (I’m making these up but you get the picture) will be stopped. They won’t know what’s hit them!
Arts grants are a waste of taxpayers money anyway. The best art, be it movies, theatre, literature, sculpture or music, has always been privately funded. I’ve seen what happens to the money that’s wasted on this crap, usually ending up as some sort of talentless, mumbo-jumbo performance that’s heavily political, boring and utterly pointless.
Also remember that under Hitler and Stalin the arts flourished. They were heavily censored and had to tow the political line, but at least there was something.
Islam is so deathly dull that there is virtually no art at all. Hard-line Muslims are Luddites and Philistines by nature. I doubt if there will any theatres under an Islamic regime, and music of course was forbidden by the Prophet (except for religious singing and the odd drum performance).
Mohammed also disliked paintings and pictures, so don’t expect to see any budding Picassos or Rembrandts living under Sharia law.
Any government money that is spare will not be given to the arts, it will be spent on madrassas, weapons and mosques. Goodbye to culture, and goodbye to creativity.
Government funding of the arts allows one side to control what is done.
You know, I visited that art show today, VERY GOOD. If your near London (UK) the nearest tube is London Bridge and its a few minetes walk from there to great Guildford St number 20, The place has a sign outside “Sport dry cleaners, guess the gallery weren’t doing to well so they rented space to the dry cleaners…… Tomorrow night at 7 pm they will be showing the film “My Brother the Islamist” Made by Robb Leech about his brother Richard Leech who after converting/reverting to pisslam got his arse arrested a week before the olympics this year. Should be fun….
Oh yeah Dickie dickhead calls himself “Salahuddin” these days, stupid fuckwit, hows that porridge for ya, Ya cunt?
And some of the artwork is sublime
Eeyore
I hear you, mate. I went to eciad in the 90’s, got a heavy dose of the pc shit. Had an Western art history course taught by a self-described “millitant, marxist, lesbian feminist” with the self-stated goal of “tearing the Western patriarchal cannon apart from the inside,” she was fervent believer.
I was young and naive, after the collapse of the Soviet Union the last thing on my mind was marxism or any other failed ideology. I’ve read accounts of the Algerian secularists attempts to put the down their islamists. Noted with interest the targetting of artist of all sorts by the jihadi scum, but the murder of Theo VanGogh…Well, that was the nail in the coffin for any lingering sympathy or empathy for islam as a good multiculturist I might have had. As I’m not a superficial cretin, exploring the tenets, doctrines illuminated in the five major schools of fiqh epoxied down the lid, and wrapped a padlocked chain a few times around that coffin. Today, I oppose what passes for orthodox islam in every way, at every turn possible or that can be imagined.
As for the typical careerists(academic artists) involved handing out Canada council grants, they are like conceptual artist, not much is to be expected from them as they have feet of soft clay, and their time will pass.
Actual artist need to keep pushing for freedom of expression. And when attacked as “racists” for expressing negative views of muslim custom, or islam, parry with the an acknowledgement that as the worst homophobes are in reality too often themselves concealing a self-loathing of their own homosexual tendancies, so the most virulent “anti-racists” are attempting to conceal their own deep and neurotic racist tendancies. It is a giggle watching them try to wrap their few braincells around that little nugget.
Keep up the good work, You have my respect.
@ Angus:
That last point is a brilliant and satisfying little rhetorical gem. I would like to include it in my short project on rhetorical self defense I am working on.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment.
Softly Bob you are right, hard line Islamists are philistines and show no respect for art/architecture/ancient cultures, as per the destruction of the Buddhas of Bamiyyan and the shrines of Timbuktu. I believe they have threatened to blow up the Pyramids. So nothing is too old, too unique, or too big, for them to attack, and they love a bit of vandalism and desecration on the side, whilst they are busy hating and killing people.
For another interesting comment about this exhibition, see the SpectatorCoffeeShop magazine blog: one of their regular contributors, author Nick Cohen, was one of the judges at the exhibition and has written a good piece about it
