The Obama campaign is hosting an outreach event for Virginia-area Muslim Americans on Sunday, according to an invitation obtained by POLITICO.

Brian Moran, the chairman of the Virginia Democratic Party, will represent the Obama campaign as a surrogate at an event in Sterling, Va. at a local community center

It’s one of the first real outreach events this cycle by the Obama campaign to a community that is largely overlooked — and sometimes demonized — by both sides of the aisle.

There are more than 2 million Muslim-Americans in the United States, most of Arab, South-Asian and African-American decent.

  1. A few reactions:
    1. The campaign event should be a good conduit for receiving illegal campaign contributions originating from Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has attempted to influence other countries’ elections over the years.
    2. Obama will lose Virginia to Romney. The desperate attempt to rally Muslim voters there will not be enough to swing the state back into Obama’s column.
    3. Muslims are demoralized in their support for Obama, for which there is also evidence in polls worldwide. Like other demographic groups but for different reasons, Obama has not lived up to their expectations.

  2. The Obama campaign doesn’t need the event to launder money, they are using Obama.com for that purpose, the website isn’t owned by the Obama campaign and is set up so it doesn’t check the country of origin of the contributors. Oil money and Chinese money is flowing in to the website in tidal wave proportions.
