    A lavish international production portraying a Polish king’s historic victory at Vienna in 1683 will be shown in cinemas in 50 countries across the world, its director has revealed.

    Some 10,000 extras and 3000 horses were used in Italian film-maker Renzo Martinelli’s epic about the Siege of Vienna, a turning-point in European history in which Polish King Jan III Sobieski helped repulse the Ottoman army from the gates of Vienna. […]

    “In my opinion, I think that this film could change people’s perceptions of Poland, by showing that it had the best cavalry in the world and saved Europe,” Martinelli said in an interview with the Polish edition of Newsweek magazine.

    Scenes for the production were shot at various Polish locations, including the historic residences of Wilanow, Baranow Sandomierski and Lancut. Battlescenes were shot in Romania.

    Martinelli is currently working on post-production, with cinematic distribution scheduled for October.Those countries not showing the film in cinemas will be able to screen the production in the format of a five-part television mini-series.

    Wiki will tell you that we should be grateful to Islam because the Turks left their brass musical instruments behind on the battle field and the Europeans were able to play music after that. All Wikis entries on Islam/Europe history seem to have been written by Muslims.

  10. 1) When is it going to be released on DVD?

    2) Historically acccurate films like this need to be made, films that show the west that we can fight back and win. During WWII Churchill had the British film makers make films showing Britain fight previous wars and winning. This effort included the first film version of Henry 5. Support all historically accurate films the show us fighting and winning.

  13. This movie is unheard of here in Australia. I will need to scour Amazon for when the title, hopefully the English dubbed version, will be available on DVD. I already have a number of big production Polish history flicks (most those directed by Polish director Jerzy Hoffman) in my library. Being of Polish descent I am keenly awaiting this cinematic feast of this much overlooked (by English speaking historians) moment of Polish history. I recently purchased Batttle for Warsaw 1920 and showed it to my friends who suddenly became enlightened to the fact that Poland saved Europe from the Bolshevik invasion.
