Rio de Janeiro – At least 11 people, mostly children, died Thursday and more that 15 were wounded when an armed man attacked a school in Realengo in the poor suburbs of Rio de Janeiro.

Police initially said that 13 people had died, but Rio de Janeiro’s Health Ministry later lowered the death toll.

According to a preliminary police report, the attacker – a 24- year-old former student at the school – was among the dead after shooting himself in the head. He attacked Tasso da Silveira school, where some 400 students ages 9-14 were in classes.

Police Colonel Djalma Beltrami said the killer used two handguns and a lot of ammunition. The suspect left behind a letter, in which he anticipated committing suicide after the attack. Beltrami, however, gave no details of any possible motive.

Beltrami described the letter as ‘the words of a person who no longer believes in anything, full of sentences that made no sense and references to Islamic fundamentalism.’

Beltrami said the attacker was friendly as he went into the school, chatting with administrators and teachers and asking for permission to address the children. When he reached the third floor of the building, the suspect entered one of the classrooms and started to shoot at students, killing nine girls and one boy.

The attacker apparently committed suicide upon being chased by a police officer who had been called in by a student who managed to escape the building.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was ‘in shock’ over the killings, government spokesman Rodrigo Baena Soares said in Brasilia.

‘He still had a lot of ammunition in his possession. Had it not been for the arrival of the police officer, the tragedy would have been even worse,’ Beltrami said.

Roselane de Oliveira, a sister of the attacker, told Rio de Janeiro radio station Band News that the young man ‘was very strange.’

‘He had no friends, and he spent all his time on the Internet,’ she said.

In recent months, she said, he appeared to have got closer to Islam.

Police stressed, however, that there was no concrete evidence that the attack had either a religious or a political motive.

  1. So it would seem that jihad has now opened up forward operations in Latin America. Just how will Lula explain this away as being an act by “White, blue-eyed devils”?

  2. I took screen caps of a couple of news sites on this because sites are rapidly being scrubbed of any mention of Islam rapidly. Just watched a CTV clip which was so sanitized it made no sense at all.

  3. The Islamic offensive has now hit Latin America in force. It will only be a matter of time before the statue of Christ on Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio is targeted by these barbarians.

No-one is safe on the planet from Muslim rage and bigotry. It wouldn’t be so bad if the consequences weren’t so dire and life-threatening.

Why hasn’t any world government taken the reasonable action of deporting Muslims back to sharia-ruled lands?

    Just thinking…

    May the west prevail.

  4. RRWest no western nation wants to be called racist and fascist by forcibly removing the Moslems, it will take a lot more attacks and a lot more deaths before someone wills start the ball rolling.

  5. Yeah, yeah. And if he doesn’t have a card in his pocket proclaiming himself a member-in-good-standing of Al-Queda, along with a picture of himself with his arm around Osama bin Laden, then it’s just a meaningless, random criminal act. Nothing to see here folks. Move along. Kids these days!

  6. I just took a look around the web and found no mention of Islam at all. Not one word. A couple of mentions of the guy having AIDS, but no Islam.

  7. Oh, so what I think is happening is that the Spanish and Portugese sites are reporting the Islamic angle, while the English ones are suppressing it completely. They have definitely been given marching orders from somebody on this one. God, that is weird.

  8. It is shame his name was not mohammad abdul islam. The name was a problem as it can be passed off as one of those things that crazy people do but in this case this was a jihad attack by a crazed muslim. Latin America is pretty free of muslims and I have spoken to one guy recently about it. He is from that part of the world. Things are changing.

  9. No halal there is a large Islamic presence in the drug producing areas, from report I read a couple of years ago the Moslems are trying to take over the production and selling of cocaine in South America.

  10. I agree Richard, the radical Islamists will use any means to fund their worldwide Jihad on the Infidel. This would include activities banned by their own teachings. Basically these sub-human inbred mutants will do any thing to spread the Caliphate, even it it means killing fellow Muslims.

  11. And this story is now gone – history – with not one mention of Islam being made in the Mainstream Media. Damn them! They made it go away.

  12. Chris they make a lot of things go away, this is why the governments are trying so hard to gain control of the net, the alternative media keeps a lot of stories alive that the governments want killed.

  13. This man’s family were Jehova’s witnesses. Shortly before he killed all those people he had become Muslim. This story was killed in the English media but is alive and detailed int eh Portuguese on in Brazil. I will be posting a link and an official man made translation at some point today.
