Several high-ranking Taliban leaders met in late October to discuss their conditions for ending the war in Afghanistan, an unnamed source close to the Taliban said, Afghan Islamic Press reported Nov. 4. The leaders agreed on seven articles that would be presented if the West asked for talks. The leaders said the United States should release all prisoners from Guantanamo; release Taliban detainees from Bagram, Pol-e Charkhi and other prisons; remove the names of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan leaders from a U.S. blacklist; announce the withdrawal of all U.S.-led foreign forces within two months; cease all military operations throughout the country; recognize the Islamic Movement of the Taliban as a political party; and replace the Afghan Constitution with Islamic law. The source said the leaders would be flexible once talks began and that they want to open a dialogue with Washington before the government in Kabul joins. He reiterated that the conditions were the unofficial Taliban position.

Why bargain with them now? IMHO keep up the pressure and eliminate the dirtbags so they cannot regroup under a different banner or leader. This is not the tome to negotiate, but to eliminate.

Obama may take them up on this offer, that may be why he is taking so many people with him on his tour of Asia.
The Allies did not have a timetable for withdrawal from Europe and the Pacific during WWII. The US and South Korea are still on the other side of the barbed-wire border with North Korea. The Berlin Wall was still in place until the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact countries overthrew Communism.
So why do we accept anything other than total victory when it comes to the Taliban and Islam?
They are asking, no, demanding that the free world surrender on their terms.

They think Obama will take it, and they may be right, I have read reports that he is asking the Russians to come in and take part of the load in Afghanistan so he is desperate to get out before his far left base gets madder at him. The invitation to Russia may be part of the reason for the trip to India, he may be trying to suck up to them so they don’t get upset over the Russians coming back into Afghanistan. As far as fighting to victory, the left doesn’t want the West to win, they want the West to fall apart so they can create a socialist paradise. If we can hang on long enough we will win, just as we would have won in Nam if we had hung on for another 6 to 12 months. This information came from General Giap’s autobiography, he said that if we had held on the North was going to sign a peace treaty that left the south free and called for US military on the borders to make sure the North kept their word. The North credits the US and European war protesters with winning the war for them.

I have one friend who is an Afghanistan vet. She has two suggestions. One of them, is to outsource the war to the Chinese. My friend figures we can pay the Chinese to go in and actually win thins thing in 1/4 the time and with 1/10th the cost as they won’t have the same rules of engagement to worry about.
If you think about it, it becomes a lot less ludicrous than it sounds at first.
I am against using mercs in any form, but Obama is reported to be asking the Russians to take over for us, either way it is people other then our citizens protecting us. This is a very bad precedent to set, the Roman Empire (the longest lasting one in history) fell when its citizens refused to fight for it and instead hired mercs. As a vet I know the price that is paid by the soldiers, but once you start hiring mercs to defend you how long is it before they are ruling you?
