Pat Condell speaks on the pope and the priesthood.

No powerful organization is above scrutiny, criticism, and even ridicule. And in fact I do like the Catholic church and feel it offers a lot of value, and I feel that Pat is a little unfair perhaps on the child-rape issue. However his comments are mostly insightful and frankly, people like him help prevent another dark age. Enjoy.

A commenter refuted Mr. Condell and myself rather well. Here is his comment:

“…people like him help prevent another dark age…”

Yes, because the Dark Ages did not happen because the barbarians sacked the Roman Empire and destroyed the centers of learning. No, the Dark Ages happened because of the Pope and the Catholic Church!

“When and if the Church ever allows priests to marry…”

Actually, the Church does. The Eastern Rite Churches allow for married priests. It’s the Western Rite only that does not. (I support a married priesthood!)

“If a woman ever becomes pope again…”

There’s no *credible* evidence that a woman ever was pope.

Pat Condells’ video is full of arrogance, an idiotic understanding of human nature, exaggeration, and paranoia. Skeptics of Pat Condell’s type are just as disappointing as Christians of Bob Jones’s type: both are fundamentalists who use idiotic statements, lies, and slander* to get you to believe what they believe. They all need to grow up!

  1. As a Catholic, I can’t get a Fatwa issued for his misunderstanding of eating the body of Christ, so instead I’ll just pray for him and send him a kind email.

When and if the Church ever allows Priests to marry, that’ll be another miracle. If they allow women into the Priesthood, that’ll be two. If a woman ever becomes Pope again, that’ll be the trifecta.

  2. I actually had to think hard about posting this one. But as much as I like the church, and I myself wear a crusaders cross every day, I feel that we all have an obligation to question religious authority and to hold its feet to the fire at all times no matter what religion it is. Pat Condell may or may not understand transubstantiation and actually I think he has it right, but its a crucial component of freedom that we always make religious authority accountable and question it in the bright light of day.

  4. The Dark Ages where cause by the decline in Roman morals, which opened the gate to the spread of Christianity, the invasion of Pagan tribes and eventually the spread of Islam which cut of Europe from the rest of the civilised (soon to be turned into barbary) world.

The only reason Christianity became a force of good in Europe was because it assimilated Aristotelian, Platonic (Augustinian) and ancient Greek scientific knowledge. Without it we would all be similar to evangelical or early Christians. Denying logic and reason and preaching ignorance.

  5. Here is a question that seems to be a huge void on our side.

What is the best way to fight fire?
    Answer: Fire

Islam is a religious ideology that has no opposition other then Christian churches or communism.

If we are going to beat back Islam there is no other way other than a superior ideology of some type. I am not saying Christian Churches or communism is the answer but we need a great awakening to something or we will eventually lose.

  6. OxAO,

As an active ideology in opposition, Islam sees all others as just that, regardless of their pacifistic views. Although Pat brushes on the pedophilic tendencies of the Pope’s priest class, which Woody reminds us is not of the Greek Orthodox venue (not that this schism has much to do with Rome at the moment), much is not said in the MSMs of the sex crimes and consanguineous relations Muslims have within their ideologically driven culture, which far surpasses the few incidents committed under the cloak of Catholicism.

Would the MSMs cover that every day, where first cousin marriages are carried out, or child marriages, or forced marriages of second and third wives from their dead brothers family for both religious and cultural reasons, the result would be cries of Islamophobia and “misunderstanding” of Islam.

  7. @Kaffir_Kanuck

It would seem you missed my point.
Without a strong ideology to get behind there will be no El Cid to rally behind.

Without a rally eventually we will lose.

  8. «“When and if the Church ever allows priests to marry…”

Actually, the Church does. The Eastern Rite Churches allow for married priests. It’s the Western Rite only that does not. (I support a married priesthood!)»

I think it would be important to notice that there is a difference between allowing priest to marry and ordaining married man. As far as I know, the Catholic Church and the Orthodox churches never allowed priests to marry.

  9. oxAO It would appear that in both the world of officialdom, the UN etc, as well as on the street, communists and leftists are 4 square with Islam as counter-intuitive as that may seem.

The Church also has failed, both the Catholic as well as, and perhaps especially, the Church of England to defend Christian values.

Jews have been sucked into the leftist narrative to the point where many congregations believe that Muslims in Europe today are an analogue for pre-war Jews.

Libertarians and atheists have a very difficult time forming groups of any kind. Both, are superior ideologies to Islam, but both may lose.

We need a liberal like Geert Wilders in every country that can keep a perspective in the face of the kind of outrageous media lies Geert has had to endure.

  10. What I find truly disapointing about Mr Condells comments, is with one brush, he paints every Priest as a parasite. He pays no attention to men like Maximillian Kolbe, Brother Andre [ who was a brother not a priest ] Padre Pio and Pope John Paul the second, to name a very few of legions of men who have given everything for the betterment of mankind. Not for personal wealth or glory, but ouot of a love for Christ and his fellow man. Is Pat willing t stand there and call these men ‘parasites”? His ignorance and lack of understanding about the scraments is excusable, based as it is on a humanist point of view so no need to go further with that. The other thing that bothers me, is his burning desire to lash out at an organizatin that is voluntary. No one is forced into or out of the church, so if Mr Condell dosn’t like it, he is free to leave quickly enough to prevent the door from hitting him on the way out.

I have no problem with people who want to critisize the church. I am completely comfortable when people choose not to believe as I do. But at least base your argument on something more than a deep dislike of organized religion and those who run it. One thing is sure though. Mr Condell can say whatever he likes and he has nothing to fear from me. Or any other Catholic I know for that matter. Too bad not all religions have a built in sense of forgiveness like the Christian faith does. There would be a huge drop in the price of C4 if this was the case

  11. @Eeyore

The left are intellectually suicidal they always have been.
I do not disagree with you that western Christianity and Judaism has failed. Atheism/Communism is the worse then Islam in many ways. I hope none of them make a comeback to be honest.

There are two kinds of libertarians one that is a total pacifist and one that believes in self defense.
Either way they are not really a rallying point when there is nothing other than the need for freedom to get behind.

Geert Wilders is a great man but his message isn’t an alternative path it is only to keep what we have.

The original TV show Star Trek touched on this a little. Vulcan’s had their logic, there was another race that worshiped freedom and another that had a spiritual connection with the stars/universe.

The point is they all had a unifying belief structure that kept their society together.
Without that bond that we must have Islam will eventually win no matter how bad their religion is.

A new Great awakening to something is needed or western civilization will fail.

  12. @ Luís Cardoso:
Thanks for the correction. You’re right: men who are going to be priests must be married before their ordination.

    @ Eeyore:
I apologize for the sarcasm directed at you. In getting irritated at Pat Condell, I forgot that you wrote “…people like him help prevent another dark age.” Had I been attentive, I’d have been courteous in my reply to you.

    @ Nick
“I have no problem with people who want to critisize the church. I am completely comfortable when people choose not to believe as I do.”

I was raised as a Fundamental Baptist. I disliked the anti-intellectual and anti-tolerance view of that tradition and quickly left it in my teen years, but it took me a long time to break the habit of being un-comfortable with people who didn’t believe as I do. It’s great to be reasonably free of that mindset! (But I do have relapses an occasion!)

“But at least base your argument on something more than a deep dislike of organized religion and those who run it.”

    I second that!

    @ everyone…
The MSM contiually under reports the amount of sexual abuse that goes on in public schools. It’s disgusting! Pat Condell really irked me when he sarcastically referred to priests as God’s gifts who rape children and get away with it. The video does not tell us, but I bet he is inconsistent in the application of his vituperation. That is, I’d be shocked to find out that he *does not* believe it’s a worthy thing to be a teacher, in spite of all the abusing, molesting, raping teachers.

  13. Eeyore,

Thank you for the kind comment about me. I posted the above before I saw that you posted my refutation. Thanks for graciously overlooking the sarcasm.

  14. well you lot can say whatever you like about pat condel, but without him i’d have never been turned on to the counter jihad. So put that in your collective pipes and smoke it! And yes, i’m a non theist!
