New York City police are investigating a vehicle in the Union Square area that appeared to be carrying at least two gas canisters, according to ABC News, Reuters reported May 14. The city’s bomb squad was called in to check out the vehicle parked near the intersection of 15th Street and Irving Place directly in front of the headquarters of the electric utility Con Edison. An NYPD spokesman confirmed investigation of a suspicious vehicle was under way in the Union Square area but could provide no further details. The Fire Department reported no radiation measured in the area

New York City police investigators located the owner of the 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, which was parked in front of the Con Edison utility building, AP reported May 14. The owner told police he had gas cans in his car because he mows lawns for his family. He parked the car in the area because he was attending a concert nearby, police said.
