STRATFOR: Greece: Strike Paralyzes Transport Network
February 24, 2010
A nationwide strike in Greece paralyzed the transport network and grounded hundreds of flights, leaving thousands of passengers stranded, Earth Times reported Feb. 24. More than 3 million public and private sector workers participated in a 24-hour strike called by the largest private and public union groups. Employees in government ministries, municipal offices, hospitals, schools, universities, banks and courts as well as factory workers are among those participating in the strike. Rail, road, sea and air transport across the country are affected. With journalists joining the strike, a virtual news blackout is in effect.
