Canada’s largest mosque sued for five million. This story explains a lot.

No wonder we see Mosques being built willy nilly all over the place. When they are free it’s easy to do. I like how the article says nothing has been proven in court. It hasn’t even been to court yet and why don’t we see that little caveat whenever there is any other charge leveled in the newspaper? Why the rice paper driveway when talking about anything Muslim I wonder.

CALGARY – A Calgary-based company is suing the country’s largest mosque, seeking almost $4 million in bills it claims were never paid related to the mosque’s construction.

EllisDon Construction Services filed the statement of claim this month in a bid to recover $3.9 million the company claims it is owed, and another $1 million in “damages for interference with contractual and economic relations.”

EllisDon says it signed an agreement in June 2006 to build the 45,000-square-foot Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque, completed in late August this year.

Muslims take part in Friday night prayers at the new Baitun Nur Mosque July 2008. The Calgary mosque is the largest mosque in Canada with room for over 2000 worshipers.

The mosque was officially opened in July with a gala reception attended by an estimated 5,000 people, including Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Naseer Ahmad, an agent of Ahmadiyya, is named as a defendant. The lawsuit claims he interfered with EllisDon’s contractual and economic interests with an intent to damage its reputation.

If the sum isn’t paid, says the claim, a builders’ lien must be placed on the mosque and property and it should be sold to pay off EllisDon.

No statement of defence has been filed and none of the allegations have been proven in court.

  1. TORONTO, Dec. 25 /CNW/ – Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada Inc. (AMJ) is pleased to announce that all post-construction payment disputes relating to its Calgary Mosque, inaugurated in July 2008, have been fully resolved to the satisfaction of all parties and having avoided a lengthy and costly legal process.

In this regard, all invoices, which were questioned by AMJ, have been withdrawn by Ellis Don who acted as the construction manager, and all contractors and sub-trades have received payment due to the release of funds reserved for this purpose held in escrow.

In addition, Ellis Don has withdrawn its claim made against the Project Director, Mr. Naseer Ahmad.
