City Recruits Minority Lifeguards Even if They Can’t Swim

In a staggering case of affirmative action gone wild, officials in a major U.S. city are actually recruiting minorities to be lifeguards at public pools even if they’re not good swimmers. It’s all in the name of diversity.

You can’t make this stuff up. It’s a real-life story out of Phoenix, the capitol of Arizona and the nation’s sixth-largest city. It has more than 1.4 million residents and, among its official mottos is “value and respect” of diversity. This means “more than gender and race,” according to the city’s official website. It also encompasses “uniqueness and individuality” and embracing differences. “We put this belief into action to provide effective services to our diverse community.”

Evidently officials are willing to compromise those “effective services” at 29 public swimming pools spread throughout the city. To diversify the lifeguard force, Phoenix will spend thousands of dollars to recruit minorities even if they’re not strong swimmers, according to an official quoted in a news report. Blacks, Latinos and Asians who may not necessarily qualify can still get hired, says the city official who adds that “we will work with you in your swimming abilities.”

There’s a good reason the city is hiring lifeguards that can’t swim. Public pools are largely used by Latino and African-American kids, but most of the lifeguards are white and this creates a huge problem. “The kids in the pool are all either Hispanic or black or whatever, and every lifeguard is white and we don’t like that,” says a Phoenix official quoted in the story. She added that “the kids don’t relate; there’s language issues.”

How did it ever come to this? Competitive swimming is a sport dominated by whites. In fact, studies have found that blacks and Hispanics have lower swimming proficiency compared to whites. In Phoenix public pool lifeguards have traditionally come from “more affluent parts of town” where schools have swim teams. That means virtually no minorities, so the city launched this special program to recruit some.

  1. In engineering you learn there are “engineering ” trade offs. You can make a plane inherently stable or unstable. You cannot have both. Fighters are inherently unstable by design. Passenger planes are inherently stable.

    It works in nature too. You can be designed by nature to be a good runner or a good swimmer. Africans are good runners. It has nothing to do with being inferior or superior. They have slightly less body fat %-wise & their bones are denser among other things. That would make them not so good at floating. There are a few other things. I remember a class mate who all but failed his 2nd class swimming test. He could not float. It was not his fault.

    There is going to have to be a lawsuit or several before this foolishness is at an end.

  3. This affirmative action rubbish (or positive discrimination as it’s also known) is another of society’s cancers. It was devised by incompetent Leftist committees who would have probably benefited from a dose of affirmative action themselves. This one of the outcomes of socialism. Far from creating the utopia that delusional Marxists believe it will, it just creates a society of incompetents, spongers and complainers.
    But hey, at least it achieves equality because eventually everybody becomes equal, equally useless that is!

    Usually you come to the job prepared. You can’t come to every job 100% prepared, but affirmative action like nepotism means that candidates are woefully under qualified.

    I am spending over a 1,000 on books & testing for 3 certifications before applying for a job. When you do things like that it is complete B.S. that someone without certification would get a job & then get years to qualify.

    Where I live it took only 15 semester hours to get a state programming job. That is 5 classes. A person could do that in 2 semester or 1 year working & going to school part time.

    15 semesters hours is only 1 semester of full time work. Given that some of these courses have prerequisites means that you are likely there for 2 semesters.

    What did I see in the local community college taking entry level programming courses? I saw 2 black students. Not a one stuck it past 2 weeks. Blacks are not inferior, but their culture is. This culture is influenced by black & democrat politicians. That is the problem.

    15 semester hours 5 courses. Take Into to Programming (3 hours), COBOL 1, COBOL 2 & two other programming courses. Take the state civil service test & with affirmative action or whatever you get hired to a professional white collar job. But you have to have a pipeline of students from grade school to high school to community college to the 1st rung.

    Head Start does not work. It has been shown not to work. Barack Obama was to expand it. We should rename him President Sisyphus. All gains in head start last a few grades & are lost by middle school. Parents have got to want their kids to succeed and they have got to more than want it. They have to spend the time with their kids. Like spending the month or 2 training how to read. That was difficult for me. It is more difficult to train a boy than a girl. But unless you take the time yourself all the Head Start programs in the world are pi$$ing in the wind. Parents are letting their kids down in very basic ways very early on. Affirmative action will not help.

    Work backwards. You cannot have the professional job unless you have all the antecedents. Some of the antecedents are very inexpensive , but they are not done.

    5 courses. 5 courses. 5!

    They did make a black secretary a programmer. She never advanced past programmer /analyst 1. She never used the increase in pay or whatever to fund nightschool at a local community college or go to the local chain bookstore & buy books on programming. I have done both. Besides her we had one other black programmer. He was cool. But if blacks are under representative it is not the fault of white people or the system in this day & age and has not been that way for 2 generations / 40 years & change.

    And former striker Demba Ba, now with Chelsea, would often lead team-mates in prayer before games.

    The insider added: “Prayer has become an ­important part of the build up to big games.

    “Demba was the most devout of all the players. He would regularly pray before big games, and be joined by team-mates. It helped build a bond between them.”

    The prayer room can be used by players of all faiths, the club said.

    No doubt fans will be praying for a win tonight when Toon take on Benfica in the Europa League quarter final, their biggest game so far.

    Babar Amin and Saeed Iqtidar challenged the nomination papers filed by Sharif to contest polls from two constituencies of the Punjab assembly in Lahore . They told returning officers that all the prophets of Allah had sported a beard but Sharif, the younger brother of former premier and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif , did not follow Islamic teachings despite being a Muslim.

  7. Better to let a few drown than appear insensitive to the needs and wants of minorities. Same stance the west has on islam. Better that people are killed by jihadis than appear insensitive to the needs and wants of muslims.

  11. Don’t know about any other Country, but all Qualified Lifeguards have to prove they do have, and can carry out Lifeguarding Duties before they get a Job.
