At least 20 killed in train derailment in Spain: reports

Now isn’t that interesting. In france in the last week or so there have been two train derailments, one having passengers and another containing nuclear waste. Both are thought to be sabotage. In Canada we had a very very serious train derailment that has killed scores of people and wiped out part of a small town within the last month. Now we have a train derailment in Spain killing 20 and not too long after Al-Qaeda suggested that muslims go after trains instead of aircraft as they are much easier targets.

Madrid: At least 20 people were killed when a train derailed outside the northern Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela on Wednesday, state media and witnesses said.

Train wagons lay on their sides with smoke billowing from the wreckage, photographs published on the Voz de Galicia newspaper website showed.

“It was going so quickly … It seems that on a curve the train started to twist, and the wagons piled up one on top of the other,” passenger Ricardo Montesco told Cadena Ser radio station.

“A lot of people were squashed on the bottom. We tried to squeeze out of the bottom of the wagons to get out and we realised the train was burning … I was in the second wagon and there was fire … I saw corpses,” he added.

UPDATE:

M who sent us this story checked a lot of news sites but they all seemed to be missing this rather telling detail from a french news site:

” L’accident s’est produit à la veille de la Saint-Jacques, le saint patron des Galiciens, une fête  [ religieuse ] traditionnelle dans cette région. Toutes les cérémonies prévues à Saint-Jacques ont été annulées par les autorités locales. ”

Which translated to:

The accident occurred on the eve of St. Jacques, the patron saint of des Galiciens, a traditional religious feast in this region. All ceremonies planned for the feast of St. Jacques had been cancelled by local authorities. (Thank you Bear)

  1. Why am I thinking about “Ramadan”, reading this? (I make no apologies for this rhetorical question).

  2. Santiago de Compostela – one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the World… the burial place of St James the Apostle. And tomorrow, 25 July, is the Feast of St James – the ultimate day of many pilgrimages to Compostela.

The train from Madrid was mentioned as approaching Compostela, from Madrid – meaning it would most probably have been full of Catholic pilgrims. All just a pure coincidence? May the dead rest in peace…

  3. That sounds really bad – so sorry for the loss of life and the hurt so many families will feel tonight. We just never know when our time will come. My thoughts to those who lost loved ones.
    God bless them all.

  4. This does not seem like a coincidence, even after an investigation we the public will not be told the truth, PEOPLE ITS TIME TO STAND UP

  5. The authorities are blaming the engineer, personally I think 4 derailments that close together scream that all of them are sabotage.
