  2. I have a trivial question: The word Apotheosis means to raise to the level of a god, to glorify. Was that the intention of headline, to glorify the weapon or to glorify the ‘cool’ of the weapon? Sorry to be pedantic but I’m not sure what the headline means.

    • When I looked it up it was just a synonym for acme, the best, apex. My intention was to write a really funny descriptor as ‘Cool’ and Apotheosis’ don’t really go together.

      My intention was just to say, ‘how cool is that?’ in a moderately droll way.

      A system that eliminates incoming threats efficiently and at low cost is a good thing as a defensive weapon I think. But yeah, war tends to follow the pattern of what I think of as technical leapfrog. So the BoP tends to shift. So far though, no one has nuked anyone for a while, and hopefully tyrants won’t fire lasers from space at us.

      On the other hand, several major tech problems with maintaining beam coherence through the atmosphere, so hopefully not a problem for a while.
