I strongly doubt the wife and kids went to the hockey arena with him. It’s quite possible they were separated or divorced.

Wife’s father had threatened him with local “Asian gang” vigilante justice if he didn’t move out of the house, away from his daughter and grandkids.
The gang might’ve done it on their own, just to keep the neighborhood clean.
