Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

      At some point, everyone just starts posting unrelated stuff that is funny or whatever and the site loses all focus. The entire internet is available for this kinda thing.

  2. Her flowing blue robes sparkled with embroidered gold in the sun. The pretty young black woman walked by my driveway as I prepared to go to the grocery store, my car idling. I could not help but look at her. She appeared to be so exotic and alien to this neighborhood of mine–as if transported directly and instantly from the sub-Sahara.

    But she didn’t like that I looked. She caught my eye on her and stared me down. Every twenty or thirty feet her head swiveled back to stab an angry glance at me, checking to see if I was still watching. She was aggressive.

    At the grocery store I got out of my car and began walking through the parking lot. I heard a loud voice, then saw a woman sitting on the ground 60-feet away. She was talking to herself and gesticulating with her hands and some things she held. I quickly realized she had mental health issues. She, too, was black.

    Here is an interview with a man who says his thinking was transformed after reading Charles Murray’s The Bell Curve. He says if you import the Third World you become the Third World. The Third World is not what it is because of colonialism, exploitation, or any of the other reasons commonly offered up. Rather, it is what it is because the people in it cannot be anything other than what they are.

      IQ scores have been steadily falling for the past few decades, and environmental factors are to blame, a new study says.

      Norwegian researchers analyzed the IQ scores of Norwegian men born between 1962 and 1991 and found that scores increased by almost 3 percentage points each decade for those born between 1962 to 1975 – but then saw a steady decline among those born after 1975.

      Similar studies in Denmark, Britain, France, the Netherlands, Finland and Estonia have demonstrated a similar downward trend in IQ scores…

        AI: Dysgenic fertility refers to the negative correlation between intelligence and the number of children a person has. This phenomenon has been observed in various countries and is linked to a decline in genotypic IQ. The authors estimate that the world’s genotypic IQ has decreased by 0.86 points from 1950 to 2000 and project a further decline of 1.28 points by 2050.

        The Flynn Effect, which refers to the increase in phenotypic intelligence due to environmental improvements, has historically counterbalanced this decline. However, recent studies suggest that the Flynn Effect may be reversing in some developed countries, raising concerns about a future decline in both genotypic and phenotypic intelligence.

    • IQ decline and Piaget: Does the rot start at the top?

      The IQ gains of the 20th century have faltered. Losses in Nordic nations after 1995 average at 6.85 IQ points when projected over thirty years. On Piagetian tests, Britain shows decimation among high scorers on three tests and overall losses on one. The US sustained its historic gain (0.3 points per year) through 2014. The Netherlands shows no change in preschoolers, mild losses at high school, and possible gains by adults. Australia and France offer weak evidence of losses at school and by adults respectively. German speakers show verbal gains and spatial losses among adults. South Korea, a latecomer to industrialization, is gaining at twice the historic US rate.

      When a later cohort is compared to an earlier cohort, IQ trends vary dramatically by age. Piagetian trends indicate that a decimation of top scores may be accompanied by gains in cognitive ability below the median. They also reveal the existence of factors that have an atypical impact at high levels of cognitive competence.

      Scandinavian data from conventional tests confirm the decimation of top scorers but not factors of atypical impact. Piagetian tests may be more sensitive to detecting this phenomenon.

      Larry Summers was removed as President of Harvard because he wrote that there might be gender-linked aptitude differences for certain academic disciplines. Say, math or engineering. Firestorm!

      Girls in my department at MIT made up about 8% (Two dropped out.)
      Most classes required working in groups for everything past the problem-set level. What’s interesting is that every group demanded at least one female.

      Turns out, mixed gender groups are much more productive, even if there’s only one female on the team. There were studies about why this was true, but it remained anecdotal for lack of data.

    • Harvard’s antisemitism report sits on three lies

      As a Crimson Key campus tour guide – back when I was proud of attending Harvard – I enjoyed deciphering the inscription on the John Harvard statue dominating Harvard Yard: “John Harvard, Founder, 1638.”

      It’s “the Statue of the Three Lies”: there’s no actual portrait of him to know what he looked like; he was not Harvard’s “founder,” just its first big donor; and “1638” is the year he died, not the year Harvard was founded, which was two years earlier.

      Similarly, Harvard’s antisemitism report sits on three lies. Its distortions illustrate how essential it is that universities tackle their educational failures and moral misfires by themselves for their own sakes, transcending the polarizing polemics surrounding US President Donald Trump.

      • Prof. Troy is the first critical voice to comment on this report. He explains:

        “Clearly, wary of offending too many colleagues, Task Force members detailed some of the implications of this toxic bonding, such as biased professors polemicizing in class, bullying students, and imposing one-sided curricula. But the report spinelessly sidestepped the cause.”

        Ideological:
        The report champions “pluralism,” mentioning it 173 times. The authors offer Alain Locke’s “vision of cultural pluralism” to save Harvard, endorsing his “insistence that diversity enriches the human experience and that cultural exchange can deepen our understanding of ourselves and others.

        They’re betting on the wrong Locke. Alain Locke (1885-1954), class of 1907 and the first African American Rhodes Scholar, was correct in embracing an openness essential to learning. But this report neglects the real ideology that made Harvard Harvard and America America: the liberalism of John Locke (1632-1704), among others.

        Liberalism wanted to “preserve and enlarge freedom” by protecting individual rights. Building on that leap forward, pluralism functions more as a foreign policy, urging even more openness to groups and cultures.

        Liberalism remains the defining, most successful, democratic, and academic vision. Ultimately, it unleashed professors seeking truth – or truths. “Cultural pluralism,” the later, alumnus Locke admitted, “presupposed cultural relativism.”

  11. Terrorist shoots pregnant Israeli and her husband in Samaria as they drive to delivery room

    The Israeli military is hunting for a terrorist who shot and injured two Israelis, a pregnant woman and her husband, as they drove to the deliver room near the small community of Bruchin, in Samaria, the Israel Defense Forces stated.

    The baby was delivered in hospital, Ynet reported, but the baby’s condition wasn’t publicly known. The Rabin Medical Center’s Beilinson Hospital had stated on Wednesday night that its medical teams were fighting in the trauma room to save the life of the woman and the baby.
