? Liberal media has been uninterested in investigating the couple involved in shooting dead a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Coventry, Vermont near the Canadian border on inauguration day. Why? Both in the duo are leftist trans militants. One of the deceased armed militants is a German believed to be in the country on an H-1B visa. The duo is allegedly connected to a trans terror cell.

Federal law enforcement had been surveilling German man Felix “Ophelia” Baukholt and Seattle @UW student Teresa “Milo” Youngblut (xe/xem/xyrs) after staff at a Lyndonville, Vt. motel reported seeing them with black tactical clothing, weapons and protective militia-style equipment.

When the duo was pulled over on Jan. 20, Youngblut allegedly shot dead Officer David Maland in a surprise attack. In the returning fire, Baukholt, who was also armed, was killed. Youngblut was injured and survived.

I spoke with Jessica Taylor @jessi_cata, a Berkeley, Calif. woman who had met Baukholt over the years. She confirmed that Baulkholt is trans.

Border Czar Tom Homan has announced a major escalation in the United States’ stance against Mexican drug cartels, vowing to “wipe them off the face of the earth.”

This stern warning follows a dangerous confrontation on Monday, where U.S. Border Patrol agents engaged in a firefight with suspected cartel gunmen along the volatile U.S.-Mexico border.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) agents and U.S. Border Patrol members faced a barrage of gunfire from suspected drug cartel operatives near Fronton, Texas on Monday.

According to Lt. Chris Olivarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the confrontation erupted as agents conducted routine surveillance along the treacherous Rio Grande, Breitbart reported.

The agents, finding themselves under heavy fire, were forced to return gunfire and take shelter in dense brush lining the river’s edge.

The standoff happened as a group of illegal aliens tried to cross the river during a shootout. Luckily, no Border Patrol agents or suspected cartel members were injured.

“It’s going to get worse Sean, because President Trump is going to seal that border. He’s going to put the cartels out of business. He declared them a terrorist organization,” Homan stated in an interview with Sean Hannity.

It can be recalled that Trump signed a new executive order to designate these groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs).

The executive order specifically targets notorious cartels such as the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, as well as violent gangs like MS-13 and Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua.

Homan continued, “We got the whole of government is going to dismantle these people and wipe them off the face of the earth. They are not going to go lightly.”

“We are taking them on in the trafficking business, we’re taking them on in the smuggling business and we’re taking them on in the dope business.”

“There’s going to be more violence on the southwest border, that’s why trump committed to calling them a terrorist organization. He has.”

“That’s why the entire United States government is going to take care of those people and abolish them. We’re going to attack them not just in Mexico, but in the 42 countries the Jalisco Cartel is currently residing in.”

“The Trump administration is going to take them on, just like he did the Caliphate, and we’re going to destroy them.”

  3. Man Arrested After Shoving Woman into Moving NYC Subway Train – Says He Does Not Regret it as Cops Haul Him Away (VIDEO)

26-year-old Markeese Bazelis was arrested after pushing a 23-year-old woman into a moving NYC subway train

A woman was pushed Monday morning into the side of a moving subway train as it entered the 168th Street Station near St. Nicholas Avenue in Washington Heights.

Fox 5 New York reports that the 23-year-old faced injuries to the face, hands, knees, and shoulders after hitting the side of the train and bouncing off.

“The victim told PIX11 News she was pushed out of nowhere. She said it’s been one of the worst days of her life,” PIX11 reports.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Markeese Bazelis, a likely homeless black man. He faces charges of assault, intent to cause serious injury and reckless endangerment, per Fox.

Footage posted to the Citizen app shows Bazelis answering questions from reporters as the police arrest him.

Bazelis reportedly told a reporter that “voices” told him to do it.

When asked if he would like to say anything to the victim, Bazelis responded, “No comment. She’s a victim for a reason.” Asked if he regrets what he did, Bazelis said, “Nope.”

    WATCH:

This comes amid the ongoing wave of subway violence in liberal New York City, where violent criminals are empowered by Democrat politicians.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, another man was pushed into the path of a moving train on New Year’s Eve, leaving him in critical condition.

The next day, a 71-year-old woman who was on her way to church on New Year’s Day was violently attacked by four teen girls on a New York City subway. The woman said her glasses went flying after the teens punched her in the face as they tried to mug her, but she fought back and sent the teens running.

Also last month, multiple slashing incidents occurred, including one incident on Christmas Eve with two victims. One of the victims who was slashed on Christmas Eve, a 26-year-old woman, said that police were nowhere to be found when she was punched in the head and then attacked with a knife. “No one called 911. No one in Grand Central called 911. It was my neighbor,” she said. “I was on the phone with my neighbor when it happened, and she called 911.”

In two separate incidents, individuals were also lit on fire on the train: a man and a woman.

Most notably, a woman died after she was engulfed in flames on the subway last month. A viral video shows the illegal immigrant perpetrator watching the woman burn after setting her on fire on a New York City subway train. As the woman burned to death, no bystanders did anything to help but instead watched and filmed the incident.

Ironically, even one of the Democrats and a prominent advocate for New York City’s new congestion pricing policy, which taxes drivers for using the roads, fell victim to a subway attack earlier this month, The Gateway Pundit reported.

Leftist Layla Law-Gisiko was confronted by an individual with a shopping cart who spat in her hair and pushed her into a wall, leaving her with a bruised ankle and sore shoulder.

Hours after the attack, the $9 congestion toll on vehicles entering Manhattan, a measure championed by Law-Gisiko and the City Club to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by encouraging the use of public transportation, was implemented.

  4. BREAKING: Trump Uses Emergency Powers to Send U.S. Military into California and Provide Water: “The Days of Putting a Fake Environmental Argument, over the PEOPLE, are OVER.”

This post has been updated with additional information.

President Trump announced on Monday night that the United States Military has entered California amid ongoing wildfires to render assistance with turning on the water.

For weeks, the fires have burned across Los Angeles County, forcing evacuations, destroying more than 16,200 structures, and killing at least 29 people as of Monday.

“The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest, and beyond,” the President said on Truth Social. “The days of putting a Fake Environmental argument, over the PEOPLE, are OVER.”

This comes after President Trump signed an executive order Friday titled “Emergency Measures to Provide Water Resources in California and Improve Disaster Response in Certain Areas.”

“For weeks, residents of the Los Angeles area have watched raging fires consume their homes, belongings, beloved pets, and childhood memories. Almost immediately, firefighters were unable to fight the blaze due to dry hydrants, empty reservoirs, and inadequate water infrastructure. Today, at least 28 people have lost their lives and thousands more have lost everything else, with some damage estimates calculating hundreds of billions of dollars in damage,” the order states.

The order further notes that the fire has affected the entire nation, and therefore, “it is in the Nation’s interest to ensure that California has what it needs to prevent and fight these fires and others in the future.”

“it is the policy of the United States to provide Southern California with necessary water resources, notwithstanding actively harmful State or local policies. And it is the policy of the United States to assist Americans in disaster areas through responsive policies that more effectively empower them to rebuild and regain their livelihoods.”

The Secretary of Defense, Attorney General, Secretary of Homeland Security, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of the Interior, and the Secretary of Agriculture are ordered to “expeditiously take all measures, consistent with all applicable authorities, to ensure adequate water resources in Southern California.” The section granting this authority calls for “overriding disastrous California policies.”

Democrat state and local government leaders left critical aquifers empty, causing local firefighters to lose water and leaving the wildfires near-unstoppable. Despite having abundant access to water, the California Democrats have flushed annual water flow into the ocean to save a tiny endangered fish called the Delta Smelt, which they can’t even find in its natural habitat. Because of these radical environmentalist policies, 29 Americans have died, and thousands have lost their homes and livelihoods.

This is why Trump sent in the military to save the day and force California to provide water to the residents and firefighters of Los Angeles instead of dumping it into the ocean.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump also visited Los Angeles, California on Friday and called out Democrat Mayor Karen Bass for the city’s sluggish response and incompetence in allowing evacuated residents to return and rebuild their homes after the devastating wildfires. Trump criticized Mayor Bass for not promptly utilizing her emergency powers to expedite residents’ return to their properties and commence rebuilding efforts.

Trump Calls Out Democrat Mayor Karen Bass on Live TV Over Disgraceful Delays in Wildfire Recovery

President Trump made the announcement late Monday night, telling residents of the Golden State, “Enjoy the water, California!!!”

The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. The days of putting a Fake Environmental argument, over the PEOPLE, are OVER. Enjoy the water, California!!!

    This is a developing story.

UPDATE: The California Department of Water Resources has denied that the military entered California. “The federal government restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days. State water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful,” the agency said on X.

  5. GOP-Controlled Senate Launches Official Hearing into Panama’s Canal Treaty Breach

The Republican-led Senate has initiated a formal hearing to address concerns over Panama’s alleged violations of the Panama Canal treaties.

The hearing, titled “Fees and Foreign Influence: Examining the Panama Canal and Its Impact on U.S. Trade and National Security,” was convened by Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

The Panama Canal, a testament to American engineering prowess, was constructed with immense effort and sacrifice. Over a decade of labor, the United States invested nearly $400 million—equivalent to over $15 billion today—and the project claimed more than 35,000 lives. Completed in 1914, the canal has been an invaluable asset, significantly reducing maritime travel time between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

However, in 1977, President Jimmy Carter signed treaties that transferred control of the canal to Panama by the end of 1999.

In December, Trump warned that the United States could seize back the Panama Canal unless the country agreed to lower its costs and counter Chinese influence.

In a post on Truth Social, the incoming president urged the Panamanian government to start taking care of the canal or face the consequences.

    He wrote:

The United States has a vested interest in the secure, efficient, and reliable operation of the Panama Canal, and that was always understood. We would and will NEVER let it fall into the wrong hands! It was not given for the benefit of others, but merely as a token of cooperation with us and Panama.

If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are not followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to us, in full, and without question. To the Officials of Panama, please be guided accordingly!

Trump later followed up with another post explaining its role preserving America’s economic and national security:

The Panama Canal is considered a VITAL National Asset for the United States, due to its critical role to America’s Economy and National Security. A secure Panama Canal is crucial for U.S. Commerce, and rapid deployment of the Navy, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and drastically cuts shipping times to U.S. ports.

The United States is the Number One user of the Canal, with over 70 percent of all transits heading to, or from, U.S. ports. Considered one of the Wonders of the Modern World, the Panama Canal opened for business 110 years ago, and was built at HUGE cost to the United States in lives and treasure – 38,000 American men died from infected mosquitos in the jungles during construction.

Teddy Roosevelt was President of the United States at the time of its building, and understood the strength of Naval Power and Trade. When President Jimmy Carter foolishly gave it away, for One Dollar, during his term in Office, it was solely for Panama to manage, not China, or anyone else.

It was likewise not given for Panama to charge the United States, its Navy, and corporations, doing business within our Country, exorbitant prices and rates of passage. Our Navy and Commerce have been treated in a very unfair and injudicious way.

The fees being charged by Panama are ridiculous, especially knowing the extraordinary generosity that has been bestowed to Panama by the U.S. This complete “rip-off” of our Country will immediately stop….

Panama’s president fired back at Trump in a video statement.

“As President, I want to express clearly that every square meter of the Panama Canal and its adjacent zone belongs to Panama and will continue to do so,” Mulino said in a video statement. “The sovereignty and independence of our country are not negotiable.”

“The Canal is not under direct or indirect control, neither by China, nor by the European Community, nor by the United States, nor by any other power,” Mulino said. “As a Panamanian, I strongly reject any manifestation that distorts this reality.”

Recent developments have intensified these concerns. According to Sen. Ted Cruz, Chinese state-owned enterprises have secured control over critical port facilities at both entrances of the canal and are involved in constructing infrastructure projects within Panama.

Trending: J6 Protester Pardoned by President Trump Gunned Down by Sheriff’s Deputy During Traffic Stop in Indiana

This situation grants China potential leverage over this vital waterway, posing a direct threat to U.S. strategic interests.

Moreover, the Panama Canal Authority has imposed substantial increases in transit fees, disproportionately affecting American vessels, which account for nearly three-quarters of canal traffic. U.S. Navy ships are subjected to additional charges exclusive to warships, and American consumers bear the brunt of these costs through elevated prices for goods.

The hearing will address these concerns over Panama’s adherence to the Neutrality Treaty, which mandates the canal’s impartial operation.

Senator Cruz criticized Panama for “ceding control of key infrastructure to China,” suggesting a potential breach of treaty obligations.

    Sen. Ted Cruz:
President Carter struck a bargain. He made a treaty. President Trump is making a serious and substantive argument that that treaty is being violated right now.

This committee has jurisdiction under the Senate rules over the Panama Canal, and today we will examine evidence of potential violations. President Trump has highlighted two key issues. Number one, the danger of China exploiting fighting or blocking passage through the canal, and number two, the exorbitant costs for transit.

    […]

While President Trump has rightly focused on these key issues, there are additional problems. In the last two years, the Canal Authority generated record revenue, even while transits were depressed by drought conditions.

The only comfort to delayed and overcharged ships is that Panama may invest in more freshwater reserves in the future. Even as it takes advantage of the global maritime system, Panama has emerged as a bad actor.

Panama has, for years, flagged dozens of vessels in the Iranian Ghost Fleet, which brought Iran tens of billions of dollars in oil profits to fund terror across the world.

Chinese companies have won contracts, often without fair competition. As the infamous Belt and Road initiative has come to Panama, China often engages in debt trap diplomacy to enable economic and political coercion. In Panama, it also seems to have exploited simple corruption.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has revealed who was behind the mysterious drones flying over New Jersey.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, residents in New Jersey and other parts of the East Coast reported seeing dozens of drones flying over their homes, resulting in various theories about their origin.

In her first press conference, Leavitt explained the drones and stated, “I do have news directly from the president of the United States that was just shared with me in the Oval Office, from President Trump directly, an update on the New Jersey drones.”

She added, “The drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by FAA for research and various other reasons.”

“This was not the enemy,” added Leavitt.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that the Biden regime has refused to come clean on the drones’ origins. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby categorically denied any confirmed incursions, dismissing over 3,000 reports of “car-sized drones” as mistaken sightings of helicopters or airplanes.

In December, Biden’s White House declared that drones spotted over the northeastern United States are operating “legally and lawfully.”

This statement comes amidst growing public concern and demands for transparency, fueled by President-elect Donald Trump’s call for answers regarding what he termed “an alarming mystery.”

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby attempted to downplay the situation, attributing the sightings to “commercial, hobbyist, or law enforcement drones, all operating legally and lawfully,” while noting that some reports may have been misidentified aircraft or even stars.

Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Pat Ryder held an off-camera, on-the-record press briefing on Monday and addressed the issue with a barrage of carefully worded statements, admitting that military bases have reported drone incursions but emphasizing that such incidents are not unusual.

Ryder confirmed that these drones are not of military origin, stating, “To my knowledge, there are no military operations — these are not military drones.”

  7. WAYNE ROOT: The Same Trump Blueprint That Destroyed Colombia in 10 Hours Can Be Used Against Every Sanctuary City and State in America to Make Them All Dance Like Spider in “Goodfellas.”

Trump taunts Marxist Colombian President Gustavo Petro after declaring penalties for blocking illegal alien flights: “FAFO”

    By Wayne Allyn Root

Trump won the illegal immigration war in 10 hours versus the socialist president of Colombia.

Not my alma mater Columbia University- which is also radical, socialist, anti-American and pro-illegal immigration. But the Latin American country of Colombia.

Trump should use this exact same blueprint that brought the country of Colombia to its knees…to also force the cooperation of every other country in the world that fights our mass deportation policy…and every Sanctuary city and state in the USA…and also Columbia (the university).

In the end, like it or not, everything in this world is about money. Everything. And every battle can be won by bankrupting your adversary.

    Money talks and bullsh**t walks.

Colombia (the country) rejected our deportation flights. In response, President Trump threatened to place a huge tariff on all goods from Columbia- starting at 25% and escalating to 50%.

Colombia’s bold-talking socialist President waved the white flag in 10 hours.

Suddenly he became a born-again Trumper. He started singing the MAGA tune. He even offered to send his presidential jet to pick up the illegals we are deporting!

Remember the scene in “Goodfellows” where gangster Joe Pesci starts shooting at the feet of a young mobster “wanna-be” named Spider? Pesci shoots at his feet and yells “dance.” That was President Trump going all-gangster on Colombia’s president. And immediately the dancing started.

This is the exact blueprint to force every country in the world to fall in line, sing the MAGA tune, and dance like Spider.

But Trump can add in a few additional threats.

In the case of Colombia, why didn’t we also threaten to terminate all foreign aid and other forms of assistance immediately? Or better yet, don’t threaten. Just turn the spigot off. Terminate all aid, assistance, loans on the spot- without a warning. Tell the offending country they must cooperate, if they want the spigot turned back on.

Do you know how much money we give to just this one pipsqueak country of Colombia? We committed over $900 million to Colombia to assist them with their immigration mess- because the whole Venezuela is migrating to Colombia. America gives them $900 million for their immigration crisis.

Why not cut off the $900 million?

That’s Trump’s blueprint for the whole world. Hit them in the pocketbook and make them dance like Spider in “Goodfellows” if they want to eat.

I suggest Trump adds the double threat of huge tariffs and immediate termination of all foreign aid. It’s quite a one-two powerhouse combination to knockout any resistance.

And I’d add one more powerhouse punch to the equation…

Announce to all these countries allowing all their citizens to invade our country, if even one of their citizens returns after deportation, we will add a 1% tariff to their goods. If two come back, we add 2%. If 100 come back after deportation, we add 100% tariffs. Now their entire economy depends on stopping any of their citizens from illegally returning to the USA.

Trending: J6 Protester Pardoned by President Trump Gunned Down by Sheriff’s Deputy During Traffic Stop in Indiana

    Guess what will happen?

These countries will seal their borders, and they will keep tabs on every returning illegal to make sure they never do it again. Perhaps they’ll lock repeat offenders away in prisons for life to make sure it never happens again. Either way, none of these illegals will ever be back in the USA…or their entire nation’s economy will be severely punished.

    Now to the USA…

Apply a version of this exact same blueprint to any city or state in the USA that refuses to cooperate with deportations, or even worse, actively tries to stop ICE from doing their job.

First, cut off all federal funding. Don’t threaten to do it. Do it. Then demand they cooperate, if they want the funding turned back on. Watch the Democrat Mayors and Governors dance like Spider in “Goodfellows.”

Second, arrest the Democrat politicians and government officials breaking federal law by aiding and abetting illegal alien criminals. Again, don’t threaten to arrest them. Just do it. And demand they start dancing, if they want to be released from prison.

After a few days or weeks in prison, I’m betting Governor Gavin Newsom, and Mayor Karen Bass will suddenly start dancing like Spider.

Third, use your “MAGA Army,” Mr. President. Name the cities and states that won’t cooperate and ask 77 million Trump voters to boycott those cities and states. When 77 million of us stop visiting, and stop buying any products produced in those cities or states, they will notice.

The economies of Sanctuary cities and states will come to a standstill. The starving businesses in those cities and states will put so much pressure on their Mayors and Governors, they will all dance like Spider.

Apply the same blueprint to my alma mater Columbia University, and all the elite universities that not only harbor illegal alien students, but give them free rides while American citizens pay full price. Cut off their federal funding. Don’t threaten. Do it.

They only get it back if they start dancing like Spider.

The same applies to Catholic Charities- terminate all federal funding. Cut them off at the knees. We’ll see how quickly the leaders of the Catholic Church start dancing like Spider when they lose billions of dollars overnight. I’ll make “the over-under” 10 hours!

It’s all about the Benjamins. It always has been.

Cut off their funding and let’s see how tough they are, see how long they last. Let’s see how quickly they abandon their Sanctuary stance.

From foreign countries…to American cities and states…to elite universities…to Catholic Charities…

Take their money away, and I’m betting they all start dancing like Spider in “Goodfellows.”

    • Sanctuary Cities have been drawing their lines for battle, not for capitulation. I imagine they would commission massive school strikes and airport closures. They are not politicians on the same astute calibre as the President of Columbia.

      • I don’t know if they would go that far, or if they even can. While they aren’t the smartest things in the world they surely know that those moves would cause massive political backlash. They are more likely to continue to order the police to not cooperate with ICE and possibly make some Grand Stand move that will be open physical obstruction of ICE. This will let Tom Homan slap the cuffs on them and make them perp march for the cameras.

No matter what they do the illegals will be picked up and deported, and in many ways their refusal helps deport more illegals, if they helped we would go after the real nasty ones and miss the lesser criminals. This way any lesser illegal that crosses ICEs path during the search is picked up and deported.

Be sure and check out EBs posts about the Trans Mafia that is killing people, they are one of the sides that will be fighting in the asymmetric civil war the left has started.

Heavily armed officers from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the NYPD Special Operations unit raided a Bronx apartment early Tuesday morning, capturing one of the most dangerous gang leaders in recent memory.
Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco obtained by New York Post

Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, 25, the apprehended gang leader, was cornered by heavily armed Homeland Security Investigations officers in an Ogden Avenue apartment, according to the New York Post.

He faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, burglary, and menacing, rooted in a heinous incident caught on camera last August in Aurora.

    New York Post reported:

Pacheco was allegedly among the heavily-armed suspects who were caught on surveillance video forcing their way into the apartment in Aurora, just outside Denver, last August.

It wasn’t immediately clear when he came to the Big Apple.

Neighbors at the Ogden Ave. building where Pacheco was busted recalled witnessing officers smashing the apartment door with a crowbar before hauling him away.

“When they brought him out he had shackles on his wrists to his feet,” said one woman who lives in the building.

“His face had a real angry expression. It was strange.”

Some neighbors confirmed they had seen Pacheco around, while others noted a woman and several children also lived in the raided apartment.

“They moved in September or October of this past year. They were very cooperative, very friendly,” said Emanuel Joseph, 64, who lives across the hallway.

In August, a shocking video released by Fox 31 Denver revealed the frightening reality of the situation: armed members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua have taken over yet another apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, terrorizing the local community.

Councilmember Danielle Jurinsky has been outspoken about the situation, declaring that gangs have taken over the complex.

“And I repeat… A GANG HAS TAKEN OVER several apartment complexes in Aurora!” Jurinsky wrote on X.

The fake news media attacked President Trump for bringing up the violent takeover of apartment buildings in Aurora, Colorado, by Tren de Aragua gang members.

According to fake news NBC News, “Roberta Braga, founder and executive director of the Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas, a nonprofit organization that studies the impact of misinformation on Latino communities, told NBC News that the false claims related to Tren de Aragua are just the latest examples of rumors created to feed a broader narrative meant to demonize immigrants.”

The news outlet added, “Residents at the Aurora apartments, many of them immigrants from Venezuela and other Latin American countries, have denied the false rumors of the gang takeover and said they increasingly feel unsafe after having unfairly been deemed criminals.”

  9. “Reliable” NATO Ally Sánchez Refuses to Spend on Defense

As NATO chief Mark Rutte visits Madrid to meet Spanish leader Pedro Sánchez, criticism mounts over Spain’s lacklustre defence spending, which remains the lowest among NATO’s 32 members. Despite being a vocal supporter of military and financial aid to Ukraine, Sánchez appears unwilling to prioritise Europe’s self-defence capability.

Spain’s military expenditure, at just 1.28% of GDP, is far below NATO’s recommended 2% threshold—a target most alliance members have already achieved. While Sánchez has pledged to reach this level by 2029, Rutte recently emphasised the urgency of bolstering collective defence, warning that NATO cannot afford further delays. “Those who are not at 2% have to get to 2% in a couple of months,” Rutte said at the World Economic Forum.

Sánchez insists that Spain is a “reliable” NATO ally and has boasted about a 70% increase in defence spending over the past decade. Yet critics argue this is still nowhere near enough given the escalating security threats in Europe. Spain’s geography, distant from NATO’s eastern flank, and its historical aversion to militarism—rooted in the legacy of Francisco Franco’s dictatorship—have contributed to public scepticism about defence investments.

Spain’s relatively tiny defence budget also comes despite public spending rising to record levels. In the second quarter of 2024, it reached an all-time high of €75.52 billion. However, much of this has gone on socialist welfare policies rather than defence.

The debate is not isolated to Spain. In the UK, Prime Minister Keir Starmer is also resisting calls from U.S. president Donald Trump to raise military spending to 2.5% of GDP, citing strained public finances—a concern that was conspicuously lacking when he recently made lofty promises of support to Ukraine’s Volodymyr ZelenskyWhile acknowledging the need for increased defence investment, he is currently only committed to a strategic review.

As Rutte’s visit highlights, Sánchez’s reluctance to prioritise defence spending jeopardises Europe’s security and undermines NATO’s cohesion. His unwavering support for Ukraine contrasts sharply with his apparent indifference to building Europe’s defence capability, a stance that leaves allies questioning Spain’s long-term reliability.

An armed man arrested at the U.S. Capitol said he planned to kill Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and burn down The Heritage Foundation, federal authorities say.

Ryan Michael English, 24, of Massachusetts, was found with a knife and two Molotov cocktails on Monday afternoon near the south door of the Capitol, U.S. District Court records say.

“I’d like to turn myself in,” English said after he approached a U.S. Capitol Police officer, the records say.

Officers detained and searched him and found he had a folding knife, a lighter and two 50-mililiter bottles of vodka with a gray cloth attached to the top.

English told officers he went to the Capitol to kill Bessent, who was being confirmed as Treasury secretary. He said he had more Molotov cocktails in his car.

He said he left home on Sunday with the intention to kill Hegseth, who he called a “Nazi,” and Johnson, as well as burn down The Heritage Foundation. He said he aimed to “depose” the officials and send a message, records say.

As English headed to D.C., he stopped at a library in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and saw Reddit posts about Bessent’s confirmation hearing. He then altered his intended target, the records say.

His car was found in the 900 block of Independence Avenue SW. Officers searched the car and found a 750-mililiter bottle of vodka and a gray sweatshirt with cloth cut from the sleeves. The cloth matched what officers found on the Molotov cocktails in English’s pockets.

In English’s pockets, officers also found a letter of apology to a woman written on the back of a receipt.

“Dear god I am so sorry. You must understand I can feel myself dying slowly b/c of my heart. This is terrible but I cant do nothing while nazis kill my sisters. I love you. This is awful. Im so sorry. I love u,” it said, in part.

English said he would have stabbed Bessent if he were able to get close to him. After looking at security at the Capitol, English thought he would have to kill at least three officers to be able to get to Bessent. He realized he might be killed by police during the attack.

English is accused of weapons possession and carrying a weapon on Capitol grounds.

  12. Warning Signs of a New Uprising in Iran
    By

    Twitter

    Linkedin

Recently, the state-run daily Asr-e Iran issued a stark warning to Iranian regime officials about the potential for new protests, writing, “If dissatisfaction persists, it will lead to uprising and revolution.” This concern is not limited to the media; it is echoed by some of the regime’s leading clerics.

Naser Makarem Shirazi, one of the most prominent figures within the ruling establishment, has voiced similar fears.

His statements reflect the deep anxiety within the regime over the potential collapse of their grip on power, particularly in the wake of the nationwide protests in 2022.

The gap between the regime and the people is widening rapidly, and the regime has lost much of its social support.
Mounting Economic, Social, and Political Pressure

The country’s deteriorating economic, social, and political conditions have pushed many Iranians to the brink. Increasing economic pressures and chronic mismanagement have fueled widespread dissatisfaction across various segments of society, posing a significant threat to the regime’s stability.

High unemployment, soaring inflation, and a sharp decline in purchasing power have made life increasingly difficult for the majority of Iranians.

The dramatic rise in commodity prices and the dollar’s surge to 85,000 tomans have amplified public grievances, especially among the most vulnerable groups.

Makarem Shirazi’s warning, with phrases like “The basis of the government will shake,” underscores the regime’s recognition of looming political crises.

Following the collapse of its regional hegemony, the regime is grappling with growing desperation among its forces, particularly as international dynamics—such as Donald Trump’s return to power—add further strain.

These factors, combined with internal unrest, threaten to push the regime closer to losing control.
    Historical Parallels and Lessons

Iran’s modern history offers stark lessons about the consequences of widespread public dissatisfaction. The Constitutional Revolution of 1906 and the 1979 Revolution are prime examples of how neglecting popular demands can lead to seismic political change.

These historical precedents demonstrate that systemic repression and economic hardship, when left unaddressed, can spark transformative movements.
The Role of Technology and Communication

In today’s interconnected world, the Internet and social media have become powerful tools for organizing dissent.

These platforms enable Iranians to share grievances, mobilize protests, and attract global attention to their plight.

Beyond raising awareness, digital networks can quickly transform localized dissatisfaction into nationwide uprisings, amplifying the regime’s challenges in containing unrest.
    A Fractured Regime

The regime’s legitimacy has eroded even among its staunchest supporters, partly due to its failed regional policies and financial scandals.

Billions of dollars spent propping up Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria have drawn sharp criticism, further alienating the public and widening the divide between leaders and citizens. Even clerics like Makarem Shirazi are now publicly voicing concerns about the regime’s future.

Makarem Shirazi’s warnings highlights a growing dissatisfaction and serious threats to the regime’s stability. He seeks to alert officials to the dire state of the nation.

While his intention may be to stave off an uprising, his words reveal an acute awareness of the regime’s vulnerability. The specter of the regime’s fall is no longer a distant possibility, but a looming reality that has reached the horizon.

As the regime faces mounting challenges, both domestically and internationally, its survival will depend on addressing the root causes of public discontent. Failure to do so could set the stage for another transformative chapter in Iran’s history.

  13. FOIA Request Issued on Merrick Garland’s ‘Tommy Gun’
Ammoland Inc. Posted on January 28, 2025 by David Codrea
What better parting gift than a gun they’ll arrest you for having? (The United States Department of Justice/Facebook)

“FBI Director Wray gifts Merrick Garland a federally-banned ‘Tommy Gun’,” BizPac Review reported earlier this month. “While addressing Garland, Wray offered him a special gift: ‘So, on behalf of the 38,000 men and women of the FBI I’d like to present to you, your very own Tommy Gun.’”

It’s not really “federally banned” per se, just highly regulated, albeit 13 states and the District of Columbia have bans.
The story included an X.com post from American Firearms Association for a C-SPAN video of the presentation that was made during Garland’s January 16 “farewell address.”

Not lost on observers was the hypocrisy of the FBI Director, who arrests citizens on federal gun charges, “gifting” a “tommy gun” to an Attorney General who prosecutes them, all in spite of the Second Amendment’s clear mandate that “ the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

“With a freaking 50 round drum! Talk about a “high-capacity ammunition feeding device! (But then, they think of us as peasants and they are the gentry),” one comment poster observed. “They’re openly mocking the average citizen… If there was ever a reason to support the 2A,” replied another.
It certainly appears that way. It also raises the question “Is the gun real, and have all the appropriate bureaucratic/”law enforcement” hoops been jumped through that would land an “ordinary citizen” behind bars for a good chunk of their life if they skipped any?

The answer to that question is unclear. Per a Politico report of the ceremony:

“Your leadership and your values have never wavered,” Wray said, presenting Garland with the kind of Tommy gun once used by agents.

That raises ethics considerations, spelled out in the Justice Management Division Departmental Ethics Office’s Gifts and Entertainment policy and enforceable federal regulations. What about superior/subordinate relationships? What about gift value? And were applicable procurement policies and authorizations followed?
    SCROLL DOWN TO CONTINUE READING
It raises even more technical and legal questions, which I presented to friend and firearms designer Len Savage, President, Historic Arms, LLC, for his take on the feasibility of doing a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

“My understanding is, even if deactivated (which we don’t know yet): ‘10.1.5 DEWATS. Deactivated War Trophy (DEWAT) firearms are still firearms under the NFA,’” I noted. If it’s “real,” there are legal issues with local government…(The Politico story placed the ceremony in the Great Hall at DOJ’s Washington DC headquarters, and this search indicates it is illegal for a citizen to possess machineguns in the District. And if it’s neither “real” nor deactivated, but simply a replica, International Military Antiques (“the world leader of the military collectibles, military antiques and the militaria industry”) notes:

New made replica guns cannot be shipped to WASHINGTON DC, MA, CT, WI, NYC, (in NY, CA & KS must be used for Theatrical Purposes Only) these locations either restrict or prohibit commerce in imitation firearms that are replicas of modern firearms. We can only ship modern replica firearms to these jurisdictions under certain circumstances.

“Went over the video. Took a screen shot of the ‘Tommy gun’,” Savage replied. “Note the red muzzle indicating a replica… Could just be a red plug on real gun, but I doubt it. Most resin and metal replicas all come with this plugged muzzle.

“Drums were made in 10 round max capacity during the assault weapons ban. There are also hollow replicas out there,” he observed. “If it is a semi auto new modern version it would be a Short-Barreled Rifle (SBR) due to the 10-inch barrel shown (doubtful).

“Without better photos or better yet an examination I can NOT rule out that the gun is live. There are hundreds of examples in the National Firearms Collection DOJ has access to. Under 922 (o) DOJ/ATF could authorize the manufacture or transfer of a MG at any time to any person not prohibited. (‘or under the authority of’).

“It is possibly a live MG or even a DEWAT. However, my guess is that it is probably merely a display replica. A FOIA inquiring about the origin (as well as who manufactured it) of the ‘gift’ should also ask to clarify if it is a live firearm or made from a live firearm,” Savage concluded.

That’s what I have done, embedded below. Attorney Stephen Stamboulieh filed a FOIA request Monday asking for relevant records. With stonewalling and refusals being a hallmark of the last administration, it will be interesting to see what the FBI/DOJ position will be under a Pam Bondi/Kash Patel administration, and I’ll file a follow-up report when that becomes known.

  14. Let’s Talk About That Whole ‘Well Regulated Militia…’ Bit
    By Tom Knighton | 8:29 AM | January 28, 2025
    AP Photo/Steve Helber

If I could go back in time and advise the Founding Fathers on one thing, it would probably be to advise them to leave out that whole part of the Second Amendment at the beginning, “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state” thing. I get what it was for and all, but it’s caused an untold amount of misunderstanding and misinformation.

It’s kind of ridiculous, but there’s a massive debate about what those 13 words actually mean with regard to the right to keep and bear arms.

For many, it’s clearly an indication that the amendment only applies to the militia, that it’s a collective right that meant the state could maintain guns; that the rest of the Second Amendment doesn’t actually apply to you and me.

However, a piece over at Reason debunks that claim.

Scholars divide the Second Amendment into two clauses: the prefatory and the operative clauses. Each serves a different purpose. The prefatory clause—the subordinate opening about a well-regulated militia being necessary for security—provides the amendment’s historical and cultural context. Meanwhile, the operative clause—the final half prohibiting infringement—unequivocally asserts the natural right of gun ownership. If the Second Amendment were a meal, the prefatory clause would be the appetizer, and the operative clause the main course.

From a grammatical standpoint, the prefatory clause is nonrestrictive. This introductory throat-clearing provides additional details unessential to the sentence’s core meaning. Justice Antonin Scalia affirmed this interpretation in District of Columbia v. Heller, the 2008 landmark legal precedent that secured the individual right to firearms. The prefatory clause, Scalia argued, “does not limit the latter grammatically, but rather announces a purpose.”

Gun control advocates tend to elevate the prefatory clause’s militia reference, suggesting it’s a precondition for the right to firearms. Some even claim that the Second Amendment preserves the right to maintain a militia.

Yet many linguistic scholars reject this interpretation. Kari Sullivan, a senior lecturer in linguistics at the University of Queensland, argues that the prefatory clause is neither internal nor conditional; instead, it’s temporal and external, meaning the opening words introduce its context and purpose.

The amendment’s bifurcated construction mirrors other famous documents of the era. The Virginia Declaration of Rights, often considered the foundation of the Bill of Rights, also used the prefatory/operative structure. Regarding free speech, section 12 of the declaration stated: “That the freedom of the press is one of the great bulwarks of liberty, and can never be restrained but by despotic governments.” Prefacing a free press as “one of the great bulwarks of liberty” serves a similar prefatory purpose, adding colorful prose to the right articulated in the operative clause (i.e., can never be restrained but by despotic governments).

There is, of course, far more, including a strangely interesting discussion of punctuation in the Second Amendment as well.

However, in most debates, it’s the introductory clause that engenders so much discussion. They focus on the phrase “well regulated” without understanding its 18th-century meaning or they focus on the word “militia” and try to argue that because we have the National Guard, it doesn’t apply any longer.

But as noted above, even if you don’t completely dismiss the clause in and of itself, it’s still not a limiting clause. Saying why the amendment exists isn’t remotely the same as saying nothing beyond this purpose is permitted. Nothing is limiting in the clause at all.

Especially when you consider who “the militia” was at the time of the amendment’s ratification. It was all able-bodied free men between certain ages, which means guns for pretty much everyone in this day and age.

Of course, this isn’t going to sway the usual suspects. They don’t actually care about the Constitution, the Second Amendment, or anything else. They might claim to support it, but they see it more as an obstacle than anything else.

Gavin Newsom’s sad attempt at a 28th Amendment for gun control sort of illustrates that yes, the things they want run counter to the Second Amendment regardless of how you try to interpret that introductory clause.

But in the end, despite the protestations of the usual suspects, the truth is that not even the whole “well regulated militia” thing supports any case for gun control.

  15. Missouri Republican Launches Second Attempt at Second Amendment Preservation Act
    By Cam Edwards | 3:31 PM | January 28, 2025
    AP Photo/Rick Bowmer

The first version of Missouri’s Second Amendment Preservation Act remains on hold thanks to a court challenge launched by Merrick Garland and the Biden administration, but a Show Me State Republican is hoping that a revised SAPA bill will soon take its place.

The original Second Amendment Preservation Act took effect in 2021, and in addition to prohibiting state and local law enforcement from cooperating with the feds on enforcing federal gun control statutes, essentially nullified those federal gun laws across Missouri.

After DOJ filed suit, a U.S. District Court judge struck down the statute, arguing that it was unconstitutional ‘interposit[ion]’ on the federal goverment by essentially trying to nullify federal law in Missouri. The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld U.S. District Judge Brian Wimes’s decision last August, holding that SAPA violated the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

“Because the (Second Amendment Preservation) Act purports to invalidate federal law in violation of the Supremacy Clause, we affirm the (district court’s) judgment,” Chief Judge Steven Colloton, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote in the unanimous opinion.

The U.S. Department of Justice filed the lawsuit challenging the law arguing it has undermined federal drug and weapons investigations. Late last year, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a request by Attorney General Andrew Bailey to allow Missouri to enforce the Second Amendment Preservation Act while its appeal is ongoing.

Bailey has since appealed the Eighth Circuit decision to the Supreme Court, and a response from Donald Trump’s DOJ is due in about a month. There’s a good chance that the DOJ won’t continue litigating against SAPA, but in the meantime state Sen. Rick Brattin has introduced a revised SAPA bill that he believes can withstand a court challenge.

Brattin told the Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee at Monday’s hearing on the bill that the new version is a “reshuffling” of the bill to put it in accordance with the parameters of the Eighth Court’s ruling. The new version presents updated language in the bill’s statement of purpose and removes explicit references to federal agencies, centering the bill instead on state and local offices.

“This isn’t coming and reinventing the wheel,” Brattin said. “This is just clarifying and making it in line with what the Eighth Courts have done.”

Aaron Dorr, a member of the Missouri Firearms Coalition and staunch advocate of the original law, emphasized that the bill was still necessary under the Trump administration regardless of its pro-gun platform.

Dorr also emphasized that the new version had been updated to reflect the concerns of police.

Lewis County Sheriff David Parrish rebutted Dorr’s claim: “This type of legislation will create major obstacles for our officers and deputies throughout the state.”

Columbia resident Kristin Bowen testified in opposition backed by the Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

She cited Missouri’s ranking as one of the states with the highest rate of firearm-related deaths. She also referenced the growing rate of suicide via firearm and gun-related homicides in the state.

“It’s a priority for me,” said Sen. Travis Fitzwater, a Republican from Holts Summit and chairman of The Committee on Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety. “This committee will probably take action on (the bill) quickly.”

If Brattin’s bill attempts to nullify federal law, then it’s going to run into the same constitutional issues as the original Second Amendment Preservation Act. If, on the other hand, the bill merely prohibits local and state law enforcement agencies from enforcing federal gun laws it’s going to be on firmer constitutional grounds.

Even if that is the case, expect a lot of resistance to SAPA from law enforcement and officials in Missouri’s largest cities, who argue that the law would hinder interagency task forces and exacerbate violent crime.

So long as the bill passes constitutional muster I don’t have an issue with it, though I do think there are bigger priorities for Missouri lawmakers when it comes to our Second Amendment rights, like repealing the state’s ban on lawful carry on public transportation. That, to me anyway, would have a more immediate and positive impact on gun owners than a revised SAPA statute.

  16. Yet Another Reason to Abolish The ATF?
    By
    Mark Chesnut –
    January 28, 2025 16
Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Missouri, has accused the ATF of skirting President Trump’s executive order on DEI.

We’ve recently reported how many gun owners and gun-rights groups are urging President Donald Trump to eliminate the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Now, the agency has provided yet president another reason to consider that action.

A federal lawmaker is accusing ATF leaders of attempting to circumvent President Trump’s executive order to ban diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. According to a report from thenationaldesk.com, U.S. Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Missouri, stated that the ATF changed a job title to skirt the ban instead of eliminating a DEI position within the agency as directed by the president.

According to Burlison, that is yet another reason the agency should be eliminated, rather than reformed as some suggest.

“The ATF defied @realDonaldTrump’s order to place DEI workers on leave, instead giving their DEI officer a new title,” Burlison wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “They attack citizens’ rights, ignore leadership and act as though they’re above the law. Enough is enough. Time to abolish the ATF!”

Burlison has long criticized the agency that President Joe Biden has weaponized against lawful gun owners, manufacturers and retailers. Earlier this month, he introduced a bill in Congress to abolish the agency.

“The ATF is emblematic of the deep-state bureaucracy that believes it can infringe on constitutional liberties without consequence,” Burlison said in a press release announcing the measure. “If this agency cannot uphold its duty to serve the people within the framework of the Constitution, it has no place in our government.”

The DEI executive order was among several signed by President Trump on the first day of his presidency. It mandated that all federal government agencies close their DEI offices immediately.

“The Biden Administration forced illegal and immoral discrimination programs, going by the name ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ (DEI), into virtually all aspects of the Federal Government, in areas ranging from airline safety to the military,” the executive order stated. “That ends today. Americans deserve a government committed to serving every person with equal dignity and respect and to expending precious taxpayer resources only on making America great.”

Rep. Burlison’s accusations center on ATF Chief Diversity Officer Lisa Boykin. As stated in the TNND report, her job title was recently altered to “Senior Executive” without any explanation for the change.

While President Trump has been very busy during his first week in office, aside from shuttering the White House Office on Gun Violence Prevention, actions on guns and gun rights have been mostly nonexistent. It will be interesting to see what he decides to do about the ATF, which he has also been critical of in the past.

  17. Conservatives must stand against the ‘Wok Right”
    Trevor Loudon Reports – January 27, 2025 – Podcast

In a riveting expose, Trevor Loudon lays bare the insidious creep of the “woke right” into the heart of American conservatism. Loudon nods to anti-communist influencer James Lindsey, who has recently popularized the term, but explains that he will be going “a little bit further than James.” This faction, increasingly entrenched, threatens to dismantle the very foundations of the conservative movement, which are rooted in anti-communism, the defense of Western culture, Christianity, and the sanctity of the U.S. Constitution…

Griffin: Secretary Hegseth has decided to immediately pull General Milley’s security detail. Hegseth also ordered a second Milley portrait removed and ordered the new acting inspector general to conduct a review board to potentially strip General Milley of a star in retirement for “undermining the chain of command during President Donald Trump’s first term.” All highly unusual actions.
