On game theory and a little fun for Christmas

One of my favorite all time books is by a Hungarian mathematician named László Mér? called, Moral Calculations: On Human Frailty and Game theory. If anyone wants a transformative read, this is certainly one of them.

Game theory overall is a model of human behaviour and fundamentally different from psychology or psychiatry. In fact, it applies to processes other than behavioural, which makes it even more fascinating. If Richard Dawkins has a claim to fame, it is that he appears to have merged game theory with Darwinian evolutionary theory and came up with something that explains a lot more about how life works over generations.

It is, I am told, the only model of behaviour that accounts for conflict. And some of you may have inadvertently been exposed to some of it had you seen the film, A Beautiful Mind, which is more or less about John Nash, the genius who came up with it. The film contains a number of distortions, but overall does show the story of the Nobel Prize winner for his contribution to economics via the creation of Game Theory.

One of the models used to describe human behaviour is called, The Prisoner’s Dilemma. And although the book describes it brilliantly and gives examples of its application, it roughly goes like this.

Two men are arrested for a bank robbery while speeding away. There is not enough evidence to try for the robbery, but they arrest them on a speeding in a school zone charge, which can get them 2 years in jail instead of ten for the armed robbery. The men are separated and individually told that if they rat out the other guy first, they will be released without charge while the other guy gets ten years for the robbery. If they both rat at the same time, it’s 10 years for both of them and if neither of them do, it means both do 2 years for the speeding. Of course they are not allowed to communicate, but it’s doubtful it would make a difference if they did.

Today, a friend of mine, (yes I still have one or two left) sent me the following video for fun. But I found it doubly enjoyable as it is a great little demonstration of the Prisoners Dilemma…

Not quite perfect, but close enough for fun.

YouTube wouldn’t allow the embed. So here is the original source of the video if you want to follow the creator.

  1. Here, Luke Gromen explains the way out of the U.S. economic gordian knot. In short, DOGE can work, but only with a much weaker dollar. Executing DOGE without weakening the dollar first will be disastrous.

This may be the best economic analysis I have seen this year, and I say this despite Gromen’s lip service to Bitcoin. Frankly, I think he’s being polite, or else the idea of a Bitcoin strategic reserve is necessary because Fort Knox is empty.

Not exactly game theory, but it is about economics, and who can deny that game theory doesn’t kick in once the Chinese understand that such massive trade imbalances are ultimately self-defeating.

  2. The snitch doggie is a bully. Reminds me of my evil oldest sister. Doggie’s sister wouldn’t dare defend herself against him, poor thing..

  3. The snitch doggie is a bully. Reminds me of my evil oldest sister. Doggie’s sister wouldn’t dare defend herself against him, poor thing..

  4. All this video proves is that snitching works – regardless of the truth.

I would not only not trust the dog’s snitching, I would find it very difficult to bond with him afterwards – might consider re-homing that bitch. The male one. Because after this performance, I could never treat it well – ever.

    • Ok in theory I agree. Snitching never means its true.
2ndly I am quite confident that she taught one dog to throw a paw over another on a command and the rest is voice over.

Remember the guy who went to jail for teaching his GFs dog to Zeek Heil?

Obviously he just substituted the command, “Gimme a paw” for zeek Heil.

Yeah I don’t think the dogs actually understood a word she said personally. It’s just theatre and the ‘magic of film’.

  5. IMO we will have to reevaluate László Mér?’s book(s) on game theory, in order to sort out leftist biases… some of which might appear as game theory thesis but in reality they are commie PoVs camouflaged as game theory axioms.

I admit that this is just a presupposition because I haven’t read Mér?’s book in question yet (but I will now; and of course I know game theory to some extent).

László Mér? is a committed leftist who believes in the “revolution”. Yes, a kind of commie one, because he’s a supporter of violent commies of the (former) Hungarian party called Momentum. (It is/was a pseudo-party created by the Brussels Comintern and is directly linked to George Soros. Mér? is a fierce opponent of PM Viktor Orbán. He’s also in Soros’s circles (probably not in personal contact with Soros himself though but on the grounds of an ideological friendship). He’s also a renown scientist in the field of AI … which is obviously a Matrix-weapon, yet he keeps reassuring us all that there is nothing to see here…

Some links to support my above claims (pls put the articles in a machine translator):

    – Mér?: “There is no other option, only the revolution” (yes, commie revolution, against Orbán)
    https://mandiner.hu/belfold/2023/12/mero-laszlo-nincs-mas-opcio-csak-a-forradalom

    – He also believes in a violent bolshevik takeover in Hungary:
” “For example, I’ve been teaching in Cluj-Napoca for thirty-odd years now, and I hear a lot of urban legends like this, that a teacher colleague of mine, a Romanian guy, allegedly got a machine gun in December ’89, and went to the Securitate headquarters and lined up the Securitarians there.” This led him to conclude that he was sure there were some people like that in Hungary who would see what was going on and solve the problem with one slap.” ”
    https://mandiner.hu/belfold/2023/12/mero-laszlo-nincs-mas-opcio-csak-a-forradalom

    – Mér?: “The so-called opposition lost not only the election, but also the 20,000-strong army of civilians of which I was a member.” (he seems to be a useful idiot / self-proclaimed activist of the globalist/intercom takeover)

Mér?: “Orbán will fall in 2022.”

(apparently, he wasn’t able to gametheory the future back in 2020 because Orbán didn’t lose the election in 2022 but won it with an overwhelming majority. what is thogh is that he badly wanted Orbán — and his voters — to lose… Nyugati Fény is a mouthpiece of violent commie tyrant former PM Ferenc Gyurcsány who’s commie police SHOT with rubber bullets into the demonstrating crowd back in 2006. many peaceful demonstrators and absolutely unrelated random people walking there were seriously injured)

Mér? debunks the “covid epidemic” early on as a political instrument, even though keeps agreeing with most its narratives and anti-freedom “measures” like the “lockdowns”.

As someone who is probably among those who fathered AI as such, he is optimistic about keeping the beast on a leash. That makes him a (commie) useful idiot in my eyes because he doesn’t even mention those world “elites” who are weaponizing AI against the people and actually OWN AI.

    https://24.hu/tech/2018/04/04/mero-meggyozodesem-hogy-meg-tudjuk-fekezni-a-mesterseges-intelligenciat/

Mér? about PM Orbán: “He is a rotten man, corrupted by power.” (I think he’s wrong. But the main point is that he’s strongly biased on an emotional-political basis.)

    —-
Summary: Mér? is a biased leftist bolshevik activist, within Soros’ circles in Hungary, who believes in a violent revolution.

It doesn’t make game theory any less relevant or interesting. On the contrary.

As both game theory and AI are being weaponized against liberty by the “globalists”(probably with AI using game theory against the people), reevaluating Mér?’s scientific work and opinions on this basis seems to be essential, without exaggeration, for the survival of humanity…

    • Thank you for that comment. Perhaps if I re read his book now, I would see it differently. But from my recollection, it was a decently solid work of science, although it did link the real to the metaphysical at times. Even so, when I read it well before I knew much of what I know now, it was a great assist in terms of getting to what is real and understanding human competitive behaviour.
Should you choose to read it, I would very much like your analysis and review of that book.

Thanks again for making the effort to write a sourced and thoughtful comment.

      • I’m not sure I could directly dissect an apparently rigorously scientific essay written by Mér? and show that its certain elements are commie in themselves. I will try but I will read the book first, then research some of its connotations in the real world.

However, I think one of the criteria of judging the seemingly sterile scientific theories Mér? deals with is looking at how they embed in politics. After some internet research I chose the “black swan” theory to track down its political origin — and possible purposes — in the ongoing globalist takeover:

Mér? held a lecture on the “black swan” phenomenon:

“His presentation was inspired by the book The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, the inspiration for this year’s theme of the two-day event, and took a mathematical approach to the different ways of thinking at the altar of predictability and uncertainty.”

        https://www.digitalhungary.hu/kultura/on-atlagosan-vagy-extrem-modon-gondolkodik-Elaruljuk-hol-a-helye-a-fekete-hattyuk-vilagaban/26212/

Nassim Nicholas Taleb is a globalist “scentist”, who allegedly coined the term “black swan”. He is a Soros-minion:

“Nassim Taleb has a lot of respect for George Soros.” “[…] he admires Soros’ ability to cope with randomness.”

        https://tylerdevries.com/the-trader-who-changed-his-mind/

George Soros is called a “Black Swan Investor”.

        https://medium.com/@davekarpinsky/the-black-swan-investor-preparing-for-the-unexpected-294646acc8a1

Now, let’s see a quote from Mér?’s lesson on blacks swans:

“In the case of the former, the smart man is characterised by his ability to predict the future based on his scientific knowledge, while teachers like us make techniques out of their cleverness so that the less clever can do well. And in Extremistan, the mark of a clever person is that he can see clearly that predicting the future is approximately impossible because it is mathematically impossible. Strangely enough, mathematics can be used to describe exactly what is unpredictable. Yet the smarter ones can adapt in advance because they have convertible knowledge. And so they can ride some big waves, and even have a chance to create a significant wave of their own. They are the positive black swans, able to imagine the unimaginable, but not inherently impossible,” concluded László Mér?.

        https://www.digitalhungary.hu/kultura/on-atlagosan-vagy-extrem-modon-gondolkodik-Elaruljuk-hol-a-helye-a-fekete-hattyuk-vilagaban/26212/

        OK, so this is cultish.

The smart will lead the dumb so that the dumb live better… So bolshevik.

The smart ones will adapt becuse they can imagine the unimaginable. They, according the Mér?, are the “positive black swans”.

But again, who are those “positive black swans” Mér? is talking about? The ones like Soros, an errand boy of the global top dogs, who kick societies and economies in the stomach and then suck their life blood from them — then name their own criminal actions with posh words like “black swan events” and their robbery “reflexivity”.

In general, these sort of brutal intrusions into the affairs of the world, countries and individuals are called “black swan” by our Wannabe Globalist Overlords:

“Davos 2024 Preview: Rebuilding Trust in the Black Swan Era”

So we live in the ERA OF THE UNPREDICTABLE THAT COULD ONLY BE PREDICTED BY THE WEF. They are apparently not disturbed by self-contradictions. Soooo scientific…

Black Swans are events prevented (in reality created) by the infamous “stakeholders” (fascists):

“That is why I am particularly looking forward to this year’s World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, with its focus on “Rebuilding Trust,” as an opportunity to discuss how all stakeholders can take a crucial step to address the challenges and moments of truth of our time.
One pillar of rebuilding and maintaining trust is the ability of businesses and societies to effectively handle shocks and crises. In fact, this is now often more important for leaders than developing strategy and optimizing operations. The number and range of black swans make the probability of any major company facing zero crises over a five-year period almost zero.”

        https://www.fticonsulting.com/en/france/insights/articles/davos-2024-preview-rebuilding-trust-black-swan-era

Translating from Newspeak: the fascisitic stakeholders override the rights of the individual and the will of the voters by directly interfering in the businesses of entities that are none of their business, but for that to work out well, they must sell these intrusions to the hoi polloi, claiming that: 1. these are events (like “covid”) just naturally happen out of the blue 2. only some chosen smart guys, out of their ranks, can predict them 3. and then our leaders “develop strategy and optimize operations” for us, children — whose only task is to OBEY, I add.

Otherwise we become public enemies of the COMMON good. Hence it is COMMONISM.

Now that they screwed humanity with some mass-murdering “black swans”, eminently the covid psyop, they want to address the “loss of trust” in order to maintain control.

        https://www.fticonsulting.com/en/france/insights/articles/davos-2024-preview-rebuilding-trust-black-swan-era

Oh, but wait, here comes the gaslighting: they explain that covid was NOT a black swan:

        https://www.forbes.com/sites/johndrake/2021/11/11/was-covid-19-a-black-swan-event/?sh=5cec6fd1bd36

Mér? is one of those few chosen ones who make us believe that “science” is the god we must follow in such black swan events and beyond, to prevent and survive them. Our only job is to join the cult and follow their instructions. We can question them for the sake of appearance, but we will not understand the answer given to us by the Smarter Ones.

“[…] Schwab said during a speech at the 2023 World Government Summit in February: “The capability to bounce back,” Schwab said, “because there will be certainly what we call the black swans, the unpleasant surprises, which will come our way.”

        https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2023/jul/24/instagram-posts/world-economic-forum-chairman-klaus-schwab-didnt-a/

“The capability to bounce back,” — meaning Build Back Better, meaning the New Normal, meaning the total transformation of societies … into totally opressed and controlled ones, of course.

And Mr. Mér? who is optimistic that his brainchild, AI will not take over, fails to read his comrade’s words, who, unlike Mér?, is aware that AI is a weapon:

“Klaus Schwab: Who Controls those A. I. Technologies “Will be the Master of the World.”

        https://www.globalresearch.ca/klaus-schwab-who-masters-those-technologies-some-way-will-master-world/5813749

Now, we get to know, from Forbes who else, that all kinds of swans are “on the horizon”. They quote Taleb, whose concept Mér? elaborated on, for the definition of black swans:

        https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckbrooks/2024/02/29/grey-swans-on-the-horizon-ai-cyber-pandemics-and-et-scenarios/

We’re also told that “Black Swan Events May Be Predictable After All”

Here they state that covid WAS a black swan: “Black Swan Events May Be Predictable After All”, they say.

So suddenly a black swan is PREDICTABLE, you see. Forbes packages this newly found predictability into pseudo-science:

“Use The Stochastic Model To Prepare For Any Scenario”, they say.

It’s so easy! You just use the “stochastic model”, then “Think about what types of black swan events could affect your business, then get together with stakeholders and leadership and start making plans.”

Ah our STAKEHOLDERS, right? The weasel word ford New Fascism, again.

        https://www.forbes.com/councils/forbestechcouncil/2024/04/01/black-swan-events-may-be-predictable-after-all/

As I mentioned above, Mér? is also a proven Soros minion, at least ideologically. So in this regard he’s in line with Taleb according to whom only Soros can be respected among the traders: “The only trader Nassim respected was George Soros, who maintained a very flexible trading strategy.”

Interestingly, Taleb’s and Mér?’s choice of research topics are rather similar, too:

Taleb wrote The Black Swan and Antifragile, while Mér? wrote a book “On Human Frailty and Game theory”.

        https://opmwire.com/that-time-i-phoned-black-swan-author-nassim-nicholas-taleb/

They both just seem to be obsessed with systemic human weaknesses, for some reason…

In another book, “Fooled by Randomness, The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets” Taleb collects a heap of interesting models and case studies that look highly scientific — just like Mér? does.

It doesn’t mean that those pieces and bits are unscientific — it only means that in this context they are used to mesmerize the audience and make them accept “science” as the infallible cult leader.

So I think I have illustrated that that “solid work of science” by Mér?, while cannot necessarily proven to be commie in itself, viewed in the context of globalist narratives and actions MAY function as an accelerator of Intercom strategies.

Whether some other concepts Mér? writes about in his books are also elements of the Intercom Narratives, remains to be seen and are subject to further research. His activity in general, including his scientific one, does fit into that picture if the above example (of the black swan) is indicative.

  6. hey Eeyore et al,

..Mér-ShMér.. does he even mention Albert Tucker, Canadian mathematician, the guy behind the Prisoner’s Dilemma? From Wiki; In 1950, Albert Tucker gave the name and interpretation “prisoner’s dilemma” to Merrill M. Flood and Melvin Dresher’s model of cooperation and conflict, resulting in the most well-known game theoretic paradox.. Otherwise, fascinating comebacks, keep them coming, and Happy New Year to y’all.. -A

    • I haven’t read the book in over 20 years IIRC. But he did source the materials he used a lot.

Laszlo’s contribution was putting it all into a specific context that made it interesting and comprehensible to the lay person.
