Jewish families, school staff call on NYC to ban keffiyehs in schools: Symbol of ‘hate’
Some Jewish students, parents and staffers are demanding the city ban Middle Eastern scarves in NYC public schools because they see them as a symbol of “hate and violence.”
Members of the group New York United in Fighting Antisemitism are urging others to send an email to Mayor Adams, schools Chancellor David Banks and United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew to ban the keffiyehs, which they said are “intimidating and frightening” to Jews.
“The keffiyehs worn in school and at school events are not merely cultural garments, they have been adopted as symbols in response to the slaughter of Jews on Oct. 7,” the advocates claim in the email.
“This symbol is prominently displayed at protests where chants, slogans, and signs openly call for the death of Israel and Jews,” they said of the black-and-white checkered scarves, which have become a uniform face covering for left-wing radicals at pro-Palestine demonstrations.
Just as the swastika’s historic symbolism of peace was co-opted by the Nazis, the traditional Arab scarf, despite its cultural roots, has now been adopted by groups “that promote violence and hatred against Jews,” supporters of the ban argue.
At numerous demonstrations against Israel, young white college students LARPing (Live Action Role Play) as Palestinians intimidate and thug around with this war-scarves on. There is a clear provision in Canadian law that you may not attend a protest with a mask or your face covered. So far I have never seen this enforced. Not even before Covid, which gave permission to wear a mask all the time. ANTIFA would routinely break all kinds of laws disrupting middle aged middle class protestors against socialist measures by Trudeau and other leftist governments. UK Police Let Violent Knife and Sex Offenders Off if They Say Sorry
Violent knife and sex offenders can increasingly escape prosecution if they show contrition and say sorry, a report Wednesday claims.
According to the Daily Telegraph, more than 147,000 people accused of offences including sex crimes, violence and weapons possession across the UK were given community resolutions in the year to March instead of being prosecuted.
Such resolutions do not result in a criminal record. The outlet set out the terms applied to each case of forgiveness against a background of jail overcrowding:
Police guidance says community resolutions should be restricted to low-level crimes, with offenders required to apologise to the victim, accept “responsibility” for their crime and offer some form of recompense.
But the resolutions, which are issued at the discretion of individual officers, have increased by 40 per cent since 2019 – when 102,574 were recorded – and are now nearly twice as likely as a criminal charge, according to an analysis of Ministry of Justice data.
The surge comes amid a deepening crisis in the criminal justice system. Prisons are so full that the Government is releasing thousands of criminals early next month in the wake of the riots, while police have raised concerns that any worsening of jail overcrowding could limit their ability to make arrests.
Jess Phillips, the Home Office minister responsible for safeguarding, has ordered a review of the police response to “non-contact” sexual offences.

Would Trump ban abortions across America?
CLAIM: Trump would “enact a nationwide abortion ban”.
VERDICT: This is misleading. Trump has said he would not sign a national abortion ban and that he believes the issue should be left to individual states.
While president, Trump appointed three conservative justices to the Supreme Court who voted to overturn Roe v Wade.
Roe v Wade was a ruling that protected the federal constitutional right to abortion for nearly 50 years until it was overturned in June 2022.
Subsequently, 22 states banned abortion or restricted the procedure to earlier in a pregnancy than had been set by Roe v Wade. In 14 of these states, abortion is banned in almost all circumstances, with 10 not making an exception for rape or incest.
But would Trump limit access to birth control?
CLAIM: “As a part of his [Trump’s] agenda, he and his allies would limit access to birth control.”
VERDICT: This is misleading. Trump has not said he would do this.
Ms Harris appears to be referring to Project 2025, a document published by a right-wing research group, the Heritage Foundation.
It outlines policies it would like Trump to implement, including limiting access to some contraceptive pills and ending taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.
The former president responded on his social media platform Truth Social, saying: “I do not limit access to birth control – that is a lie.”
Ms Harris has repeatedly tried to link Project 2025 to Trump but he has distanced himself from it, saying: “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it.”
However, according to an investigation by CNN, at least 140 former Trump administration officials have been involved in the project.
I do not think a CNN investigation constitutes ‘fact checking’. Still, this is very surprising for BBC.
