2. So I didn’t know Canada worked this way. Apparently if you have a vacant seat in Parliament, you don’t need to call a by election at all if you think you will lose? Doesn’t seem right. And for those who don’t follow Coughlin that closely, the event itself is being overtaken by narratives that lead those trying to know what happened to become annoyed, frustrated, full of doubt and eventually give up on knowing what actually took place and who did it. Steyn does not look at it in terms of liquifying the reality around the event. But it ends at the same place. We are all meant to go away after a short time with a melancholy sense of an unforeseeable unstoppable tragedy that has nothing to do with public policy.
