Reader’s Links for January 23rd, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. If you’re not smart enough to prevent me from taking everything you have, that’s your problem.

Many people today are worried about their wealth. They’re worried because the little bit of knowledge they’ve gathered likely does not match the money they’ve gathered. They hear all kinds of things about the economy going down, private property rights going down, freedom going down, and they become paralyzed by their own fear and confusion. I understand this, but don’t necessarily sympathize. Making it is the easy part, keeping it is another matter. This is the lesson that people who build their own wealth through sweat and risk learn. Others who come by their fortunes more easily have a harder time coming to terms with this concept.

  2. Former Trump Defense Sec Says Liz Cheney, J6 Committee Threatened to ‘Make My Life Hell’ If He Contradicted Their Preferred Narrative
    by Ben Kew Mar. 23, 2024 10:40 am17 Comments

Donald Trump’s former acting Secretary of Defense, Chris Miller, has revealed that he felt “threatened” by former Congresswoman Liz Cheney and other members of the January 6th Committee after he refused to endorse their version of events.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Miller said that he became “fearful” of the panel’s tactics after they tried to stop him making claims that ran contrary to their preferred narrative.

According to Miller, the panel were particularly upset by a Fox News interview he gave with Trump national security official Kash Patel in which he pointed out that the former president authorized the National Guard to step in quell the protests taking place in and around the Capitol.

“The two of us were on [the Fox News show] and the next day my lawyer got a call from the Jan. 6 staff director – I forgot exactly who it was – but basically saying, very legalistic: ‘Well, if your client has additional information he wants to share, we’d be happy to have him re-interviewed,’” Miller explained.

“It was more that latent threat of: ‘If you want to keep going on TV, we’re gonna drag you in here again for additional hours of hearing testimony.’ So that was the nature of that whole thing,’” he continued.

He also outlined his view that the Committee’s Vice Chair Liz Cheney was the person “running the show” and that she was concerned about the “optics” of his claims that Trump attempted to restore order.

Miller, who was appointed as acting Secretary of Defense in October after his precedessor refused to act on evidence of widespread election fraud, added that he had not wanted to publicly discuss his concerns until now.

Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill is under investigation for allegedly stealing over $100,000 from a 96-year-old woman.

Hill is believed to have used the money for cosmetic and dental surgeries, hotels, and more.

According to an affidavit from an agent for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, obtained by USA Today, Hill is alleged to have started financially exploiting the woman on March 15, 2021.

    USA Today reports:

The special agent’s investigation suggests Hill had no prior relationship with the elderly woman before meeting her in March 2021 and obtaining power of attorney over her a little over a month later, according to the court records obtained by USA TODAY on Wednesday.

In an email to USA TODAY on Wednesday, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirmed that an active investigation is ongoing against Hill, but the agency could not provide additional information. It remains unclear if Hill is facing any criminal charges.

  4. Mexican Man Pleads Guilty to Smuggling Illegal Aliens into California Through the Sewer
    by Cassandra MacDonald Mar. 23, 2024 9:45 am76 Comments

A Mexican man has pleaded guilty to federal charges of smuggling illegal aliens into California through sewer pipes.

Kevin Noe Campos Villa, 20, was arrested in January for smuggling seven migrants into the U.S.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California, “when confronted by Border Patrol agents, Campos and three of the immigrants he was guiding ran to avoid apprehension. While attempting to escape, they fell into the Tijuana River and had to be rescued by San Diego lifeguards.”

“Sewer tubes between the United States and Mexico have grates to prevent individuals from illegally entering the United States,” the press release explained. “During heavy rain, the grates are opened to let water flow through the sewer tubes without damaging the grates. Due to heavy rain that was occurring in the area at the time, the grates were open and Campos used the opportunity to smuggle the unauthorized immigrants into the United States.”

Campos admitted to helping the group cross the border in exchange for $6,000.

  5. Mike Benz: Deep State – Foreign Policy Establishment Could Go Full Authoritarian – “I Believe They Already Have” (VIDEO)
    by Jim Hoft Mar. 23, 2024 9:15 am64 Comments

Mike Benz, founder of the Foundation for Freedom Online, joined Steve Bannon on Friday following his report that Hunter Biden was involved with the CIA in Ukraine.

Benz is the former State Department official with responsibilities in formulating and negotiating US foreign policy on international communications and information technology matters.

During their discussion Benz described the foreign policy establishment and the likelihood that they could go full authoritarian. Benz argues that he believes they already have.

Mike Benz: Oftentimes, when rule of law is insufficient to contain that, we kick out our counterinsurgency doctrine, where there’s a lot of nasty things that we will do to the resident population in order to get their minds right to stop opposing the ruling regime. And the issue is, you need legitimacy in order to govern cheaply. That is, a people who have grievances in their heart, a people who feel that the government is illegitimate, are expensive to govern…

  7. ‘I want a fighter’: Donald Trump Jr. lobbying dad to pick one of these possible running mates
By Social Links for Jon Levine
    Published March 23, 2024, 8:49 a.m. ET

Donald Trump Jr. is lobbying his father to select a running mate who can take a punch — and hit back even harder, he told The Post.

“What I want in that role is I want a fighter,” Trump Jr. said. “I understand what they are going to throw at us.

“In 2016 you needed someone to balance out [the ticket] — that’s where Mike Pence made sense, sort of the yin and yang, but [given] the vicious nature of the swamp and the insanity we see on a daily basis, you need someone who can take those hits,” said Trump Jr., 46, the oldest of the former president’s five children.
Donald Trump Jr. speaking to the media at his father’s rally in Charleston, South Carolina

The former first son — who speaks to his father daily, often several times a day — said he’s been pushing people like Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio); Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and former GOP presidential candidate; and Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host who now hosts a program on X.

Trump daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner both served in senior White House roles during his last term, but Trump Jr. said he and fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle, who also remains close to the campaign, had no plans on becoming a second “Javanka” in the West Wing — but that he’d “never rule anything out.”

Should his father retake the Oval Office, Trump Jr. said he plans to take a “very active” role in the the 2024 presidential transition team, while Guilfoyle would remain focused on fundraising.

Attorney Generals Ask Supreme Court to Overturn AR-15 and Magazine Bans

The Idaho Attorney General has joined with the Attorney General of Indiana and 26 other state AGs or Legislatures to file an amicus brief in the case of Bevis v City of Naperville.

On November 22, 2023, the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit denied the petition for an injunction pending appeal to en banc review or for a writ of certiorari to the Supreme Court. On December 20, the request for an en banc hearing is denied. On March 8, 2024, a petition asking for a stay of proceedings pending a Supreme Court appeal is granted.
The case focuses on whether the State of Illinois has the power to ban an entire class of semi-automatic firearms.

From the press release by Idaho AG Labrador:

Attorneys General Raúl Labrador of Idaho and Todd Rokita of Indiana led 26 other states in filing a brief with the United States Supreme Court challenging Illinois’ unconstitutional ban of AR-15 rifles and their standard 30-round magazines.

“This ruling from the Seventh Circuit flies in the face of the Bruen decision and the Second Amendment’s unqualified command,” said Attorney General Labrador. “To restrict an inanimate object based on nothing more than cosmetic appearance is absurd, and the Supreme Court needs to make this right with all expediency.”

The Seventh Circuit’s decision in Barnett v. Raoul found the Illinois gun ban constitutional, holding that the plain language of the Second Amendment and the term “Arms” does not apply to AR-15s because of their militaristic appearance. The Seventh Circuit’s decision lacks any textual or historical basis. In fact, the arms the Second Amendment originally protected were those used in military combat. The Seventh Circuit’s analysis bears no resemblance to the analysis prescribed by the Supreme Court of the United States.

The brief asks the Supreme Court to grant certiorari and correct the Seventh Circuit’s erroneous decision, arguing that “[e]ven apart from having no basis in the text of the Second Amendment, the Seventh Circuit’s artificial divide between “militaristic” firearms and firearms used for self-defense is indefensible.”

The 26 other states joining Idaho and Indiana are:

Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, and the State Legislatures of Arizona and Wisconsin.

Astute observers may notice an amazing overlap between this list and states that are members of the Constitutional Carry (permitless) club. In the above list, there are only two states that are not Constitutional Carry or permitless club members. They are Virginia and Wisconsin. Maine and Vermont are the only Constitutional Carry (permitless) states that did not join the amicus brief.

Such amicus briefs are becoming more common. At stake are two visions of how the Constitution is to be regarded.

The governments of Idaho, Indiana, and roughly 26 other states generally subscribe to the ideology the Constitution is a contract between the population, the States, and the federal government. The contract should be interpreted as it was understood to be at the time the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were ratified.

Approximately 18-20 other state governments have a different vision of the Constitution. In this vision, the Constitution of 1787 (Bill of Rights in 1791) is/are outdated. The interpretation of the Constitution should be by Progressives who look to bend Constitutional provisions to their understanding of what is best for the Country based on the current situation.
These two visions are not necessarily in conflict. In practice, they are nearly always in conflict. The vision of those who wish to exert power over the population and concentrate it in the federal government runs directly contrary to the structure of the Constitution as written, with its checks and balances, division of power, and limitation on the power of the federal and state governments.

    • BREAKING: Biden Regime Launches Federal Gun-Grab Operation to “Keep Firearms Out of the Hands” of People Who “Pose a Threat to Others”
      by Cristina Laila Mar. 23, 2024 1:20 pm181 Comments

The Biden Regime on Saturday morning continued its attack on the Second Amendment and launched a federal gun-grab operation to keep firearms out the hands of people who “pose a threat to themselves and others.”

“The Justice Department launched the National Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) Resource Center (the Center) which will provide training and technical assistance to law enforcement officials, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service and social service providers, community organizations, and behavioral health professionals responsible for implementing laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of people who pose a threat to themselves or others.: – the DOJ announced on Saturday.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland said the ERPO program will work with partners across the country to use “every tool” to ‘protect communities from gun violence.’

“The launch of the National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center will provide our partners across the country with valuable resources to keep firearms out of the hands of individuals who pose a threat to themselves or others,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “The establishment of the Center is the latest example of the Justice Department’s work to use every tool provided by the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to protect communities from gun violence.”

The Justice Department said the new program will allow medical professionals or “other groups” to petition a court to “temporarily prohibit” someone from purchasing or possessing firearms.

“ERPO laws, which are modeled off domestic violence protection orders, create a civil process allowing law enforcement, family members (in most states), and medical professionals or other groups (in some states) to petition a court to temporarily prohibit someone at risk of harming themselves or others from purchasing and possessing firearms for the duration of the order.” the DOJ said.

“Through the Center and its newly launched website, states, local governments, law enforcement, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service providers, and behavioral health and other social service providers will have direct access to critical information that will enhance their ability to reduce firearm homicides and suicides. The website will be maintained and updated to include newly developed resources for the field created through the Center, in partnership with BJA. The website also provides a platform for the Center to highlight emerging and promising practices in successful ERPO implementation and connect states and localities to innovative strategies to reduce gun violence and save lives.” the DOJ said.

  9. New York’s Shoplifting Epidemic Creating Shadow ‘Resale Economy’ as Businesses Lose Billions
    by Ben Kew Mar. 23, 2024 11:40 am186 Comments

New York’s shoplifting epidemic is now so severe that a shadow “resale economy” has formed across online marketplaces.

According to a report from The New York Post, some of the city’s most notorious thieves are hawking products at a discount prices on services such as Facebook and eBay. Organized gangs are even providing their underlings “shopping lists” of the specific items they want stolen.

In some cases, thieves even stealing perishable items such as expensive ice cream before selling them on for profit to people at subway stations or local bodegas.

  10. Delaware Legislature Passes Bill to Legalize Composting Human Bodies
    by Cassandra MacDonald Mar. 23, 2024 2:00 pm0 Comments

The Delaware legislature has passed a bill to legalize the composting of human bodies.

The bill explains that composting human remains “uses large vessels to hold human remains together with straw, wood chips, or other natural materials for about 30 days.”

Supporters of human composting argue that it is an “environmentally sustainable and cost-effective alternative” to traditional burial and cremation.

According to a report from the Washington Times, “Those who died from a radiological accident or incident, those with radioactive implants and those who died infected with prion disease, Ebola, tuberculosis or any other disease that could survive the composting process will not be legally compostable.”

The Delaware House approved the bill 37-2 in January, and the state Senate passed it 14-7 on Thursday.

Trump’s Third Act has begun. It’s a beauty.

Next week, Trump could make over $4 billion when his media company goes public, removing all doubt about his billionaire status.

And you can stop asking if he would have been better off putting his inheritance in a savings account in the 70s.

I expect Trump to leave a 15% tip for Leticia James and the Democrats because they made his windfall possible by hunting him and censoring him for years. You can call it a bond, not a tip, if you prefer.

When the Supreme Court tosses out the unconstitutional fine, Trump gets most of his “tip” back.

The Democrats planned to cripple Trump financially so he couldn’t spend as much on the campaign. Trump turned Leticia James into his best fundraiser.

Lots of interesting developments lately on the topic of the 2020 election. The Simulation wants at least one of those fresh allegations to be a Kraken.

Trump’s legal maneuvering is likely to keep him eligible for the election.

You can fantasize about a heroic Democrat such as Newsom swooping in and replacing Biden, but it’s looking less likely every day. If it had always been the plan, it would have happened by now. Looks like Biden has to stay on the job to keep the Biden Crime Family out of jail.

The predictable Democrat Summer Hoax will add some excitement, but it will be forgotten and debunked by November.

Trump’s upcoming victory is looking like it will be, as Trump says, “too big to rig.” And by that I mean Democrats will try to rig it anyway and get caught. That will be fun.

The gears of the machine have become visible. We can all see the FBI is rotten and the DOJ is weaponized. We know the border is open intentionally. We know the cartels are working with our government. We know our elections are DESIGNED to not be auditable and there’s only one reason for it. We can see Biden is not in charge. We know the Ukraine war was always about its energy resources and who gets to own them. We know our rising debt is ruinous. We know our experts are liars. We know our pharma and food industries are poisoning us. We know our government is racist. We know the corporate media is essentially owned by Democrats who are controlled by intelligence entities and they are actively brainwashing the population. We know the 1st and 2nd amendments, and X, are under sustained government attack because they are the public’s last defense against the government.

    But we are not quitters.

And the odds do not apply to us.
