Reader’s Links for February 23rd, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

For those interested, please check out https://vladtepesblog.substack.com/ as an another avenue of expression.

  1. Happy Friday.

Only in America was this story possible. Reinventing the American dream, creating a pseaudo-reality that was better than reality, profoundly mirrors what we are experiencing today, but inversed.

This documentary turns over a lot of earth, but it is well worth it. We can see how easily the “barrel” was nudged over the years by the left.

We went from a conservative vision of life, promoting family and all other things good, where the outsider’s pseaudo-reality was adopted by the rest of the country (go to 30:00 for this seminal point).

At the end of this documentary I think the writers lose the script, however, in the murk between what is anti-Semitism and what is anti-Communist.

Diana West would give great commentary at this point, given that her father was a Hollywood script writer. Maybe you should try interviewing her again, Vlad. Your last one with her was great and she’s lost her platform it seems.

At minimum this documentary shows how we have always lived in a pseaudo-reality to some degree.

    God Bless America

  3. Britain’s institutions are being bullied into submission by “Islamists, the extremists and the anti-Semites” while politicians hide behind the lie of a “successful multicultural society”, Britain’s former Home Secretary Suella Braverman writes in the wake of a miniature constitutional crisis in Britain’s Parliament this week.

The Speaker of Britain’s House of Commons broke with convention this week to change the normal business of the house to, he claims, reduce the risk of its members and servants being murdered by terrorists. While an ostensibly laudable notion, the admission that the business of a Western democracy is being steered by the threats of radical extremists from without has triggered alarmed responses from several political figures, not least among them former Home Secretary (interior Minister) Suella Braverman, who has been one of the more forthright voices on migration and security in recent years before she was unceremoniously removed from post by her more progressively-minded master.

  4. “They Want Trump to Forfeit One of his Buildings Before the Appeals Process” – Eric Bolling and Christina Bobb on Letitia James’ Latest Move to Deny Donald Trump the Right to Appeal (VIDEO)
    by Jim Hoft Feb. 23, 2024 9:15 am139 Comments

Trump attorney Christina Bobb weighed in on the latest lawlessness by New York Attorney General Letitia James and her cohort in crime, Judge Arthur Engoron.

The duo is demanding President Trump turn over $355 million in cash immediately in their incredibly lawless suit against him.

Christina Bobb joined Eric Bolling on Newsmax to discuss this affront to justice.

The lawless left in New York state now believe they have the right to strip a man of his wealth and assets before he can appeal a ruling in a court of law.

Eric Bolling started the segment pointing out the Democrat Party’s burning and pillaging of the US justice system.

Eric Bolling: They’re going way over the line. They’re going past what American people expect. Fair play, bottom line. And this is nothing like that.

Christina Bobb: You’re exactly right. And the idea that they’re basically cutting off the appeals process and the fact that they’re trying to jam this judgment down his throat without his ability to use all of his constitutional rights of the judicial process, which includes the appellate process, to me, indicates that they know they’re wrong. They know they’re in the wrong, and that’s why they don’t want to allow the court of appeals to weigh in before they harm him more. And so they’re trying to cut off that process and just create more headlines and create more drama and create more turmoil for the president, knowing that they’re likely to get overturned. It’s shocking. I mean, I don’t know how many times we can use the word unprecedented, shocking, crazy before it sounds trite, but every next step that they take is shockingly worse than the last one.

Eric Bolling: …It feels like what she’s trying to get Trump to do is forfeit one of his buildings in advance of the appeals process just so she can get that, like, she can get that skin, that scalp that she’s looking for.

Christina Bobb: That’s exactly what she’s trying to do. And that’s exactly why the law allows for the appellate process. And that’s why Judge Engron was overturned earlier in this case when he tried to strip Donald Trump of his business licenses. That was overturned on appeal because they’re saying, hang on, that’s irreversible damage. So allow the judicial process, the justice system, to play out before you inflict an injury that is irreversible. And that’s what. You’re exactly right. What they’re trying to do is inflict injury on Donald Trump that can’t be reversed. They’re cutting off the appellate process and saying, we don’t care what the court of appeals says. We are going to get our pound of flesh from Donald Trump come hell or high water. Whether it’s just or not, they don’t care.

Eric Bolling: You got in a city in a state where they reduce felonies to misdemeanors like water, and they’re trying to stick Trump of the 350 with. By the way, folks, I said 450 because with interest and extra fees, they’ve got this thing, this bond that he has to post, up to $450,000,000, not 10% of it. The half a billion dollars. Are they insane?

Christina Bobb: Yes, they absolutely are. It’s a massive case of Trump derangement syndrome. There’s no semblance of justice here. I believe that this statute has been used about 150 times before in New York history, and this is the only case where there is no victim, there are no real damages. And I’d be willing to bet that this is one of the most outrageous penalties, despite the fact that nobody was hurt. So, yes, they’re quite literally insane.

Eric Bolling: Christina, say it again. Say it every single night here on this show. $450,000,000. It’s going to go to New York state. What are they going to do with that? There’s no victims. You know what they’re going to do? They’re going to use it for their love affair with the illegals, migrants that are coming into the city. Christina, I got to go. Appreciate your time. Christina. Bob, thank you so much.

They are changing America and New York state forever.

    • BREAKING: Cellphone data raises questions about start of Willis-Wade relationship
Thousands of texts between DA and special prosecutor in 2021, court filing says

By Bill Rankin, David Wickert and Tamar Hallerman
      Updated 48 minutes ago

Nathan Wade appeared to make at least 35 visits to the Hapeville neighborhood where Fani Willis was living before the district attorney hired him to lead Fulton County’s election interference prosecution, according to cellphone data included in a court submission filed Friday.

The filing, by attorneys for Donald Trump, raises fresh questions about the relationship between the two prosecutors, which the former president and other defendants argue has tainted the case against them and should result in Willis and her office being disqualified.

Trump’s lawyers relied on data collected from Wade’s cellphone and cellphone tower transmissions to track his movements. It seems to contradict Wade’s testimony last week in which he said he had visited Willis at her condo in Hapeville no more than 10 times before he was hired in November 2021. It also indicates Wade twice arrived late at night at the condo and left early the next morning in the months before Willis and Wade said their relationship became romantic early in 2022.

Both Wade and Willis testified last week that they did not spend the night together at the Hapeville condo.

“We are required to respond to the filing via the court and we are preparing a response now,” Jeff DiSantis, a spokesman for Willis, said Friday.

The timeline is important for two reasons. If Willis and Wade were a couple before she hired him it raises the prospect that she may have violated at least the spirit of anti-nepotism rules, though Fulton’s policy specifically focuses on family members. More importantly, both Willis and Wade have testified under oath that the relationship began in 2022. If defense attorneys can prove that they lied under oath it could constitute perjury.

Friday’s court filing includes an affidavit from Charles Mittelstadt, a longtime investigator for defense attorneys. He said he obtained the cellphone data from AT&T through a subpoena.

Mittelstadt said he used the online tool, CellHawk, to determine where Wade spent his time in 2021. “CellHawk is considered by law enforcement to be the gold standard in cellphone records analytics,” Mittelstadt said, noting it is used by law enforcement throughout the U.S. and Georgia.

The affidavit says Willis and Wade called each other more than 2,000 times during the first 11 months of 2021 and exchanged just less than 12,000 text messages.

Mittelstadt also said he focused on when Wade’s cellphone connected to a tower near Willis’ Hapeville address for extended periods to make sure he was stationary and not in transit. He said he did the same thing to determine when Wade was at his home in East Cobb County.

On one occasion, on Sept. 11, 2021, Wade’s phone left the Doraville area and arrived in the vicinity of Willis’ Hapeville address at 10:45 p.m. The phone remained there until 3:28 a.m. and could later be seen arriving in East Cobb at 4:05 a.m., shortly before Wade sent a text to Willis, the affidavit said.

Similarly, Wade’s phone left the East Cobb area the night of Nov. 29, 2021, after receiving an 11:32 p.m. call from Willis, the affidavit said. It arrived in Hapeville at 12:43 a.m. and remained there until 4:55 a.m., the affidavit added.

Mittelstadt “is available to testify at the court’s convenience,” said the filing, by Trump attorneys Steve Sadow and Jennifer Little.

It will now be up to Fulton Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee to decide whether to admit Mittelstadt’s affidavit and the phone records into evidence.

Questioned at the Feb. 15 hearing by Sadow, Willis said Wade visited her at the Hapeville condo before she hired him in November 2021. On one occasion, Willis recalled a time when he picked up food from the Lickety Split Southern Kitchen & Bar and brought it to the condo.

As to how many times Wade paid her a visit in 2021, Willis testified, “I don’t think often, but I don’t – I don’t want to speculate.”

When pressed for a number by Sadow, Willis said, “Let’s say more than 10, but I’m not sure that that’s even accurate. He certainly has come and picked me up, gone and grabbed some food to eat. I don’t remember him being in that condo a lot.”

No one, except maybe one of her daughters on one occasion, ever spent the night with her at the Hapeville condo, Willis testified.

Earlier in that hearing, Sadow asked Wade how frequently he visited Willis’ condo before November 2021. Wade testified that it was not more than 10 times.

Sadow suggested phone records could demonstrate Wade was there more than he had let on.

“So, if phone records were to reflect that you were making phone calls from the same location as the condo before Nov. 1 of 2021, and it was on multiple occasions, the phone records would be wrong?” Sadow asked Wade.

“If phone records reflected that? Yes, sir,” Wade responded.

      “They’d be wrong?” Sadow asked.

      “They’d be wrong,” Wade responded.

Wade said he could have been in the Hapeville area for any number of reasons. He said he could have been visiting the Porsche Experience Center, the airport, the Delta Air Lines headquarters or local restaurants.

Wade testified he never spent the night at Willis’ condo.

At the hearing, Willis and Wade’s testimony was contradicted by Robin Yeartie, a former colleague and friend of the DA’s who allowed Willis to sublet the Hapeville condo.

Yeartie testified during the hearing that she had “no doubt” that Willis and Wade began their romantic relationship shortly after they met in 2019. She also testified that she had seen them “hugging, kissing” and being affectionate.

Both Willis and Yeartie testified that they had a falling out in 2022, after Yeartie left the DA’s office due to poor performance, and the two have not spoken since then. Prosecutors sought to frame Yeartie as a disgruntled former employee who might have an ax to grind with Willis.

Willis owns a house in South Fulton but moved out in early 2021 due to security concerns. Her father, who lived with her for a time, testified last week that people showed up outside the house shouting curse words and racial epithets at Willis.

It got so bad police regularly showed up at the home with bomb-sniffing dogs, John Clifford Floyd III, Willis’ father, said. Willis moved out of her home and into the condo rented by Yeartie.

  5. Disgusting: Far Left Anti-Defamation League Says Nashville Trans Mass Shooter Was NOT a Left-Wing Extremist — Despite All Evidence to the Contrary
    by Jim Hoft Feb. 23, 2024 8:45 am116 Comments

The far left Anti-Defamation League claims the Nashville trans school shooter was NOT a left-wing extremist despite facts to the contrary.

The Anti-Defamation League, a former human rights group that now focuses on pushing left-wing talking points, recently reported that all of the “extremist related murders” in 2023 were committed by right-wing extremists – ignoring the numerous mass shootings by black gang members and Audrey Hale, the Nashville school shooter.

Hale, the radical far left trans shooter, killed three adults and three students in March at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee.

Her manifesto was littered with racist anti-white trash similar to rhetoric from a typical BLM or antifa rally.

The ADL says this does not signify left-wing extremism, reports the Daily Signal.

  6. El Salvador President Nayib Bukele Criticizes George Soros and Issues a Chilling Warning to America During CPAC Speech
    by Jim H?ft Feb. 23, 2024 8:15 am83 Comments

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele addressed attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2024, issuing a grave warning to Americans based on his country’s experience with internal strife and external influence.

During his speech, Bukele called for a decisive fight against globalism, urging for a collective awakening to the threats it poses to freedoms and rights around the world.

“If you want globalism to die here too, you must be willing to unapologetically fight against everything and everyone that stands for it. Fight for your freedoms, fight for your rights.”

“The next president of the United States must not only win an election; he must have the vision, the will, and the courage to do whatever it takes. And above all, he must be able to identify the underlying forces that will conspire against them. These dark forces are already taking over your country. You may not see it yet, but it’s already happening.”

He also criticized both non-governmental organizations and the left’s favorite billionaire, George Soros.

He decried the involvement of these “unelected bureaucrats” in setting public policy, questioning their democratic legitimacy.

“Who elected them? They don’t have a democratic mandate,” said Bukele. “If they want a seat at the table, they should run for office. Let the people vote.”

  7. ‘The View’: Alyssa Farah Griffin Says Trump Choosing Tulsi Gabbard as VP ‘Would Literally Be Vladimir Putin’s Dream Ticket’ | Video

Donald Trump revealed his shortlist for a 2024 running mate this week and among the names is Tulsi Gabbard. But, according to “The View” host Alyssa Farah Griffin, that pairing “would literally be Vladimir Putin’s dream ticket.”

In an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Trump confirmed that Gabbard, along with Vivek Ramaswamy, Ron DeSantis, Tim Scott, Byron Donalds and Kristi Noem are all on his shortlist, though he added that “the VP choice has absolutely no impact.”

Though the hosts of “The View” have long been predicting Tim Scott would be Trump’s choice, Alyssa Farah Griffin was definitely surprised by the other contenders.

“I’m a little bit stunned that he said most of these folks are on the shortlist,” she said. “Now, Donald Trump-Tulsi Gabbard would literally be Vladimir Putin’s dream ticket. That does not — you would lose every normie Republican like myself, who wants to stand by NATO wants Ukraine to defeat Russia. That’s bizarre to me.”

Host Sunny Hostin agreed that Gabbard would be “Russia’s dream candidate,” and recalled words that former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said about Gabbard five years ago.

“She said about Gabbard in 2019, ‘I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on someone who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third party candidate. She’s the favorite of the Russians,’” Hostin recited.

Jack Smith Will Annoy the Supreme Court
    By Sean Ross Callaghan

Imagine a crime committed right on the floor of the United States Senate. “Will my colleague from New York agree,” asks the senator from California, “that at five o’clock next Saturday, we will shoot the president in the middle of Fifth Avenue?”

“I agree,” replies the senator from New York. “To help us accomplish our end, I will now vote to disband the Secret Service.”

After the senators commit criminal conspiracy live on C-SPAN — that’s agreeing to a crime and taking one act to accomplish it — nothing happens. Neither get so much as much as a ticket. That’s because the senators are absolutely immune from criminal prosecution under the Constitution.

The Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause provides that a congressman may not be put on trial for any “legislative act.” Hence Senator Mike Gravel of Alaska could commit a grave felony in 1971 when he disclosed the top-secret Pentagon Papers. He did so at a hearing of the Senate’s Subcommittee on Public Buildings and Grounds, so no prosecutor could touch him. Had he released the papers in the hallway outside the hearing room, he’d have been in handcuffs.

A president has it harder, according to Special Counsel Jack Smith. In the Justice Department’s prosecution of President Trump for contesting the 2020 election results, Smith argues that he may put Trump on trial for official presidential acts. All that’s required to arrest Trump, says Smith, is that just over half of a biased Washington, D.C., grand jury conclude that his words or deeds fall within the vague wording of a rarely charged criminal statute. In Smith’s telling, he may put a president on trial for standing in the Speaker’s Lobby off the House floor to urge congressmen to vote against certifying an election — but because voting is a legislative act, not the congressmen who stand three feet away and actually cast the votes as urged.

Smith admits that a president must be protected by at least a qualified immunity from criminal prosecution — but he refuses to spell out exactly what that immunity is. Smith could propose an immunity covering only acts that double as political speech or petition or permitting prosecution only for clear crimes. Smith instead just swings his bat at a baseball he cannot see and declares a home run: whatever immunity a president has, he asserts, it cannot cover President Trump.

There’s another kind of prosecution besides criminal prosecution. It’s political prosecution. The Supreme Court should immunize President Trump from political prosecution by delaying his trial until after the election. It can then turn to the complex question of a president’s immunity from criminal prosecution and give it a far more thorough and thoughtful treatment than blindfolded baseball pitched by Jack Smith.

  9. Why did CBS want to keep Catherine Herridge’s reporting files?
    By Monica Showalter

When top investigative reporter, Catherine Herridge, was laid off at CBS, a lot of heads were shaking. Her layoff made no sense, she was their best performer, their most credible news reporter, the only reason they weren’t completely dismissed as a woke and politicized “narrative” and “talking points” outlet.

ABC News and NBC News could make no comparable claims, and MSNBC and CNN, not to mention, NPR, certainly could not.

But, yeah, they got rid of her, just as she was uncovering some incredible political stories in an election year, including new stories about Hunter Biden’s laptop and Joe Biden’s involvement in Hunter’s sleazy business dealings.

    According to the Daily Mail:

Citing sources, the New York Post claimed that Herridge had been pursuing a story related to Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop, and that she had ‘encountered roadblocks’ from management over her coverage of the First Son.

Herridge in November 2022 authenticated the laptop, which the Post had first reported on in October 2020.

Oh, well, they didn’t want those stories. And they didn’t want that powerful traffic they would draw to the network. Whatevs. Some news networks like to stay small.

Except that then they refused to give Herridge back her reporter files and computers, her valued notes, and lists of leakers, and all the people she talked to to get her standout stories.

Ahem. Then things started to look different.

Seems they didn’t just want her stories on her broadcasts, they wanted to silence her so she couldn’t tell more of these stories. They claimed the files were company property, but that’s nonsense.

Here’s why that’s a load of bee ess: Number one, that’s not done and all of those people at that network know it.

Two, Herridge is the one who goes to jail if some judge decides she needs to reveal this or that source to a court against her promise to the source that she would not. That’s basic newsgathering, the bargain implied. Many reporters have been stuffed into jails over such conflicts. Herridge would take the fall, not CBS, over the reportage and its byproducts in the notes, so yes, the notes were hers.

What’s more, what was witheld included even notes from her Fox News days, so something strange was going on. They wanted her gone, but they really, really, really, wanted her notes.

In the past, news organizations would stand by their reporters, not treat them the way judges or politicians do, and it was routine for a laid-off reporter to leave with her notes. I’ve been laid off a couple times from news organizations and that was always what happened.

Stranger still, CBS didn’t even seem to mind that in keeping and rifling through her notes, reading about all her sources, sharing them with whomever they wanted to, they might just trash their own credibility as a news organization and be reduced to reporting public relations talking points from White House press releases.

    Independent journalism? Not any more.

Because who would be fool enough to talk to one of CBS’s reporters now that word is out that they keep and share reporter files? If you are a source, you are no longer talking to a reporter you trust, you are talking to whoever the powers that be are at CBS who will make their decisions based on their corporate interests. Your own interest in remaining anonymous will become very secondary.

Sound like a good idea to leak something to CBS?

CBS has since backtracked on its insistence of keeping Herridge’s files after a public outcry and union pressure, but the damage is done. Nobody knows who has leafed through them and taken the photos or run the scanner on them. The deed is done. Nobody with a lick of common sense would talk to one of their reporters. They can kiss investigative reporting, major scoops, and afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted goodbye. Any ‘scoop’ they get will be like most 60 Minutes scoops these days — things the Biden administration actually wants them to report, including particular spins.

    Herridges are now gone.

Why might this be happening? It’s true that CBS had strong ties to the Obama administration when David Rhodes, brother of Obama “mind-meld” narrative master Ben Rhodes, was in the top position. But Rhodes has been gone for years.

Who’s running them now? Their official top dog, with this gloppy title, “president and chief executive officer of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures” is someone named Wendy McMahon, whose bio says she’s also in charge of various CBS game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!

She looks like a ditz and might be one, having graduated from a journalism school with a party girl and hairspray-journalist reputation, Louisiana State University, and then bouncing from executive position to executive position up the career ladder, a get-along-to-go-along type seemingly with more guiles than brains.

According to CBS biography of her, she plays the corporate game well and accordingly, has her priorities:

Under McMahon, CBS News and Stations has prioritized diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, hired and promoted several women and/or people of color to serve in key roles and dramatically improved the workplace environment for all of its team members.

Who’s directly below her as president of CBS News? Someone named Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews who looks indeed like a DEI hire, a three-fer — black, woman, Latina — but who also has a substantial record of news-gathering and production, albeit of the ambulance-chasing, breaking-news kind, flying all over the world to cover events like earthquakes, parachute-style.

Reportedly, Ciprian did push back on Herridge’s intense, investigative, reporting, either as a good corporate pawn, or because she was intensely woke. That’s not a news reporter’s position, however.

And back to Wendy, well, who hired Wendy? The big boys at Paramount, who are dealing with this issue:

Which sounds like they might need a favor or two from Joe Biden to get the most favorable terms to a bad situation.

The attack on Herridge comes at an interesting time — not just that it’s election time and that she’s uniquely positioned to affect what voters think with her reporting, but with the leak of news that Joe Biden or his minions had the nerve to call up and tell the New York Times’s publisher that the administration was “very upset” with their reporting of the obvious, when was news of Joe Biden’s doddering state. Biden’s people really, really, really, didn’t like that coverage and they made some phone calls.

Is it too much to suspect that the Biden administration, which has gotten into the business of telling news organizations’ publishers what they think of their coverage, might have put in a similar call to CBS or its owner? And applied muscle and political threats to make sure their wishes were heard? That’s certainly been the Obama- and Biden administration style of doing business with the private sector.

I have no special souces at any of those outlets as to what went down, just some knowledge of how news is made. This story isn’t over, it’s just outrageous, and not about to be the last one to come out.

I look forward to the investigative reports and scoops about just how the Bidenties put the squeeze on either Paramount or CBS to get Herridge’s work out of the headlines, which I think will come. Jonathan Turley has written what he knows. I would be very interested in what someone like Paul Sperry, James O’Keefe, or the substack guys Elon Musk has commissioned with the Twitter files, might eventually find on this. They have street cred and they’re beholden to no one. I’d be especially interested in what Sharyl Atkisson has to say about this, having been surveilled by the government and subject to its dirty tricks during the Obama administration when she was at CBS. Oh, to hear what she thinks went down!

    And of course, Herridge herself.

I hope that Herridge doesn’t let this trash going on stop her. She’s too valuable, has too high a following, and actually reports without fear or favor in the public interest. Everyone in the news industry who can should defend her and those who don’t should be left to stenography from public relations hairspray girls and their directing politicians.

Finland is Building Shooting Ranges to Boost Citizen Soldiers

A recent article in the Telegraph was republished on Yahoo. The article touted the Finnish government’s decision to open 300 shooting ranges to encourage the development of shooting skills by Finnish citizens, for the purpose of national defense. From the article:

“This is because of our defence model, which benefits from people having and developing their shooting skills on their own.”

In 2023, Finland’s new Right-wing coalition agreed plans to increase the number of ranges to 1,000 nationwide by the end of the decade, as well as plans to allow diabetics to serve in the army and encourage more women to join up.

There are currently around 600 ranges in Finland, compared with 2,000 at the turn of the 21st century.

Only 25 years ago, Finland had 2,000 shooting ranges. Consider the trend. It means 1,400 shooting ranges were closed or destroyed in the last 25 years. It coincides well with the fall of the Soviet Union and the belief that Finland no longer had to worry about invasion.

The hard lessons of the Winter War of 1939 – 1940 were minimized. Although completely outmatched by Soviet manpower and material, Finns fought the Soviet behemoth and kept their independence. They are said to have caused 300,000 Soviet casualties while suffering only 68,000 casualties. Over 125,000 Soviets were killed, and about 25,000 Finns were. They ended up ceding 11% of their territory, but they survived as a country.

Every Finnish school child knows the history of Simo Häyhä, “the White Death.” He was one of the most successful snipers in history, killing 500 Soviet soldiers in three months of winter. The Finnish military expects a great many of its 900,000 reservists to be able to accomplish many of the same feats as Simo Häyha.
The Finnish government’s hostile attitude toward maintaining the country’s shooting ranges died with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Finns, Swedes, Czechs, Poles, Latvians, Lithuanians, and Estonians no longer believed they could rely on economic ties with the Russian Federation to prevent the same Russian bellicosity and aggressive, expansionist policies they saw in WWII. From dailymail.co.uk:

In a nation where hunting is arguably, after ice-hockey, the national sport, more than a million people own guns — and, as I saw when visiting a shooting centre in Lappeenranta, 12 miles from the Russian border, they know how to use them.

But then, as the owner, Matti Myllynen, told me, children often begin lessons at seven years old, and by 15 they can hunt alone. Since the Ukraine invasion, he said, his membership has risen by 50 per cent; a trend mirrored across the country.

‘The standard of shooting in Finland is already comparable with the world’s best, but now people are coming to brush up on their skills,’ he said, adding sagely: ‘In these uncertain times, they want to be ready. We have a saying here in Finland: if you want peace, then prepare for war.’

An armed population is a deterrent to invasion. It is not enough by itself. Finland has a population of 5.5 million. Of those, only 430,000 have firearms licenses. The Daily Mail has misinterpreted the data. Finland has over a million privately owned firearms but only 430,000 licensees. Finland has one of the highest rates of firearms ownership in Europe. About ten percent of adults own firearms. In the United States, the number is somewhere above 30%. Many of those firearms in Finland are hunting rifles. As seen in Ukraine, far more than rifles are required. A “right-wing” Finish government is rapidly building up its artillery and mortar capacity. From Defensenews.com:

The Finnish government has announced that it will invest over $130 million over the next three to four years to double the country’s production of artillery and mortar ammunition.

The decision, touted by the Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen in a Dec. 12 post on X, comes amid the European Union’s stagnant progress in increasing ammunition supplies to Ukraine.

Finland has not been alone in degrading their rifle ranges. As this correspondent traveled extensively around Australia, it was common to see the remnants of a once vigorous culture of armed citizens. In Australia, those traditions have been and are under serious attack. The left in Australia hates the idea of an armed population.

In my own hometown in Wisconsin, one of the rare National Guard 600-yard rifle ranges was destroyed during the governorship of Tony Earl (D). I used that range as a young adult. All over the world, a desire to disarm populations has resulted in a denigration of the necessity of armed defense.

Finland is staring the Russian Bear in the face. The history of the Winter War has not yet been erased. Preparing for war, as a necessity to maintain peace, is once again understood to be a historical reality.

  12. Trump Declares He Will Defend Christians from Continued Persecution and No One Will Take Down “Cross of Christ” Under Trump Administration (VIDEO)
    by Anthony Scott Feb. 23, 2024 11:20 am149 Comments

President Trump promised to defend Christians against the radical left’s anti-Christian policies during his latest speaking engagement at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

The 45th president told the crowd of Christian broadcasters and other attendees, “Every communist regime throughout history has tried to stamp out the churches, just like every fascist regime has tried to co-opt them and control them…And, in America, the radical left is trying to do both.”

Trump is right; as The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the DOJ under the Biden admin charged six Christian pro-life activists for praying and singing Hymns inside an abortion clinic in Nashville, Tennessee.

The six pro-life activists have since been convicted of violating the FACE Act and a “felony count of conspiracy against rights,” which in total can carry up to an 11-year sentence.

Later in his speech, Trump declared, “No one will be touching the Cross of Christ under the Trump Administration; I swear to you, that will never happen,” which garnered loud applause from the audience.

    Per AP:

Former President Donald Trump promised to use a second term in the White House to defend Christian values and even suggested he’d shield the faith’s central iconography, warning a convention of religious broadcasters on Thursday night that the left wants “to tear down crosses.”

“Remember, every communist regime throughout history has tried to stamp out the churches, just like every fascist regime has tried to co-opt them and control them,” Trump told hundreds of cheering attendees at the National Religious Broadcasters International Christian Media Convention in Nashville. “And, in America, the radical left is trying to do both.”

“They want to tear down crosses where they can, and cover them up with social justice flags,” Trump added. “But no one will be touching the cross of Christ under the Trump administration, I swear to you.”

The Gateway Pundit has reported abundantly on the vast persecution the Biden admin has imposed on Christians.

In a previous report, The Gateway Pundit reported on the House Weaponization Committee finding, which revealed the Biden admin was flagging transactions of Americans who were shopping at Cabela’s, Dick’s, and those who had recently bought a Bible.

Christian Nationalists and the Defense of the Nation
    by Antonio Graceffo Feb. 23, 2024 11:16 am113 Comments

From the White House to think tanks, and even mainstream media outlets like CNN, White Christian nationalists have been vilified, being labeled as the greatest threat to national security and religious freedom. Previously, being a nationalist or patriot was viewed positively, but now even love for one’s country can be interpreted as un-American. Athletes wearing the US uniform may choose not to stand for the national anthem as a signal of their virtue. Some Christians serving in the military feel they’re facing persecution. Concurrently, the U.S. military is grappling with a recruitment crisis, partially due to perceived exclusion of Christians and conservatives by woke policies, while many young people, influenced by woke ideologies, view nationalism negatively and are disinterested in joining.

Veterans from earlier generations express dismay at what they see as a targeted campaign against patriotic Christians with conservative beliefs. Robert Brown, a 56-year-old Army veteran and ordained Baptist minister, disagrees with the negative associations attached to the term “white Christian nationalist.” While he acknowledges the harm caused by extreme right groups like Nazis, he emphasizes that they represent only a tiny fraction of the 246 million American Christians. Brown remarks, “The people that talk about these issues tend to throw everyone in the same bucket. When they mention white Christian nationalists, I think of people who have faith and also care a whole lot about the government, and politics.”

Fifty-four-year-old Ken Talbert, a veteran with over seven years of service in the U.S. Army, has spoken out against what he perceives as unfair attacks from the media. ““Being white and Christian apparently makes you a Christian nationalist in their eyes,” he remarked. “They think we are nationalists because we don’t want open borders and millions of unvetted people coming over the border. We don’t agree with White House policies and that makes us white nationalists s.” Talbert clarified his understanding of the term, stating, “When I think white nationalists, I think about people who want a full white nation. That has never been an interest of mine, or anyone I know. I just want a nation of borders and laws.”

Once a word becomes a meme, its original meaning often shifts from the dictionary definition to encompass anything someone dislikes. In today’s context, every dispute or conflict is labeled as a genocide, individuals disliked are equated to Hitler, and any opposing political viewpoint is branded as fascism. The ambiguity surrounding these terms makes it challenging to counter them effectively. Hence, it’s crucial to establish a clear definition of white Christian nationalism before engaging in arguments against it.

Brad Onishi, a former evangelical minister who once aligned with Christian nationalism, now voices opposition to it and hosts the podcast “Straight White American Jesus.” Speaking to NPR, he described Christian nationalism as “an ideology that is based around the idea that this is a Christian nation, that this was founded as a Christian nation, and, therefore, it should be a Christian nation today and should be so in the future.”

Regarding the title of Mr. Onishi’s podcast, “Straight White American Jesus,” it’s worth noting that the Bible portrays Jesus as heterosexual. Additionally, there’s historical evidence that the nation was founded with Christian principles, as all of the founding fathers were Christians, and the original pilgrim settlers fled religious persecution in Europe. Talbert further emphasized this point, stating, “Despite what they are saying our nation was formed one nation under God. It is a Christian nation. We separate church and state, so neither has full power nor has full control.” He also highlighted the contradiction in compelling people to adhere to Christianity, noting, “We cannot have a nation of all Christians because that would be against Christianity. That would be forced compliance.”

While many Christian patriots hold the belief that the United States was established as a Christian nation, it’s unlikely you’ll find any who claim Jesus was American. Regarding whether Jesus was white, it’s a complex issue. All Christians acknowledge Jesus as Jewish, so it comes down to how one defines terms. While some may perceive Jews as white, the question remains loaded. Even if someone were to view Jesus as white or American, does this automatically classify him as a national security threat or disqualify him from serving in the military?

“Christians make good soldiers,” said Michael Harr, age 55, a 25-year Army veteran who participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. “They believe in America and what America stands for, and as flawed as America is, it’s better than most other countries.” He went on to ask, “We are a Christian nation. How can we be the enemies of ourselves?”

Biden’s assertion that white Christian nationalists pose the greatest threat to national security diverts attention from more pressing issues. The Annual Threat Assessment released by the intelligence community consistently identifies China and Russia as the primary threats, followed by North Korea, Iran, and extremism, including Islamic extremism. Notably, the document mentions “white supremacy” only once, with no mention of Christianity. Similarly, the Department of Homeland Security’s Summary of Terrorism-Related Threats to the United States references “white” twice but does not designate white Christian nationalists as a national threat. Instead, it noted a single instance from 2022 when “certain domestic violent extremists” praised the manifesto of a white supremacist who carried out an attack on an LGBTQI+ bar in Slovakia.

Robert Brown recognized that other types of extremists are not designated as security threats, asking, “What would be the difference if an extreme liberal person wanted to join the military?” He went on to point out, “There is a continuum. If you go so far left, it’s socialism. Go further and it is communism. So, who’s more dangerous: a communist or a Christian?” He concluded with, “The communist atheist is bad; the Christian nationalist is good.

  14. TRIAD WEED: Maine Sheriff Raids Another Black Market Drug House Run by Chinese Organized Crime — Cannabis and Meth Seized

Update: Several hours after the Maine Wire broke this story, the Penobscot Sheriff’s Department posted new information on their Facebook page. Three Chinese males were arrested at the site. Law enforcement also seized 40 pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine, and $4,700 cash. The full Facebook post is appended at the bottom of this article.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department conducted yet another enforcement action against an illicit Chinese-controlled marijuana trafficking hub operating out of remote northern Maine on Thursday morning.

According to multiple sources in Passadumkeag, a town of less than 400 people, Sheriff’s Deputies executed a search warrant on a large property at 549 Main Road.

According to the Penobscot Sheriff’s Department, three Chinese men were detained at the property; however, only one man, Xisen Guo, 67, of New York, was arrested.

Guo was charged with Unlawful Trafficking in Scheduled drugs Class B, a felony, while the other two unidentified males were released.

The Penobscot Sheriff Troy Morton did not release any information about the immigration status of the detained individuals. Morton also did not offer any information as to why the other two individuals were released.

That property — which had been visited by the Maine Wire several times last year and confirmed as an active marijuana growing operation — is one of dozens in northern Penobscot County that are suspected of operating as black market pot dens.
