Reader’s Links for February 1, 2024

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

WAYNE ROOT: Now That Trump Has Wrapped up GOP Nomination and Leads Biden in Every Swing State, Here are the 11 Things Desperate Democrats are Willing to Do to Win
    by Assistant Editor Feb. 1, 2024 8:30 am149 Comments

    By Wayne Allyn Root

This country is such a mess under Joe Biden. It’s hard to even believe what’s happening is real. How can this many things be going wrong at once? It seems like fiction. Or a nightmare.

If you ever pitched this as a screenplay in Hollywood, they’d laugh you out of town.

The borders are open and millions of foreign migrants, murderers, terrorists, rapists, and dangerous military-age males from Hamas, Hezbollah, MS-13, and our mortal enemy China are pouring in.

Crime is out of control. In Washington DC, a former Trump administration official was just carjacked and almost killed on a busy street just blocks from the White House.

In New York City, a mob of illegal aliens beat two NYPD cops in the middle of a busy street. Then after being arrested, they were released within hours with “no bail.”

Biden says the economy is roaring, yet UPS just laid off 12,000 employees nationwide. UPS obviously knows Biden is lying.

Inflation is still raging- ask Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. She just admitted high prices are here to stay. But I didn’t need Janet Yellen to tell me. Almost everything I spend my money on is at record highs- my electric bill, car insurance, health insurance, groceries, and restaurant bills.

Even worse is the weaponization of government. It feels like we are living in prewar Nazi Germany. Just days ago, a jury convicted a group of peaceful, pro-Life, religious Americans, of “conspiracy” for praying and singing hymns at an abortion clinic. They face 11 years in prison.

And then there are wars starting around the globe under Biden.

Things are so bad, the number one question I get asked at parties is, “Wayne, tell us…what is coming first- a civil war, or World War 3? Can we fight both at the same time? Is that possible?”

Everyone is stocking up on guns in preparation for what’s coming.

It’s no wonder 4-times-indicted-President Trump is beating the pants off Joe Biden. According to the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll, Trump is winning by wide margins in all seven swing states. He’s up by 10 points in North Carolina, 8 points in Nevada and Georgia.

Two things are now crystal clear…

A)Trump has the GOP nomination wrapped up. It’s over. Trump is the nominee. In the Nevada caucus coming up next week, Trump will win 100% of the delegates. That’s already guaranteed.
B)And in the general election, Biden is finished. The stink on him is so bad, nothing can turn it around at this point. The Biden brand is poison.

Democrats are like Kevin Costner in the movie “No Way Out.”

Desperate Democrats no longer have any choice- they have to rig the election. If Trump gets back in the White House, Democrats are going to prison. Some may wind up serving life in prison (or worse) for treason.

Knowing these corrupt creeps and traitors like I do, here is a list of what I believe is coming down the pike in the next nine months, courtesy of the Democrat playbook…

1.We could see more indictments of President Trump from now through the election. Maybe even a big one out of left field close to the election- a so-called “October Surprise.”

2.They will try to convict President Trump before the November election- and if possible, lead him out of the courtroom in handcuffs, straight to prison.

    3. They will keep trying to disqualify President Trump- at least until they get a final ruling out of the Supreme Court.

    4. If all else fails, I fear the Deep State will try to assassinate President Trump. They really are that evil.

    5. And if all that fails, Biden will drop out of the race for health reasons, and Democrats will choose MICHELLE OBAMA as their 2024 Presidential nominee. I’m no Johnny-come-lately to this prediction. I made it in print a year ago- on January 30th, 2023. This election will be a heavyweight matchup of Trump vs Obama.

The only issue here is- does Michelle want it? If not, Democrats are in serious trouble. All that means is, they’ll either replace Biden with Gavin Newsom, or stick with Biden, but double down on the other ten planks in this column to rig the election against Trump.

    6. In conjunction with all of the above, Democrats will try their best to start World War 3 as both a WMD (Weapon of Mass Distraction), and to stir up patriotism for the incumbent Democrat president.

    7. Democrats could cancel the election with the country paralyzed by waves of deadly terror attacks (that Biden welcomed in with his open borders)…or EMP attack that cripples our water, sewage, electric grid and infrastructure.

    8. China will invade Taiwan this year. China needs to move before the election- while the brain-dead man with dementia and diapers, who is bribed and blackmailed by China, is still in control.

    9. The Covid pandemic was just a trial run. Another pandemic might strike America in the runup to the election- but this one will be far deadlier. This will result in panic, hysteria and a 100% mail-in ballot election (the perfect recipe for voter fraud).

    10. BLM was just a trial run. Expect mass anarchy in the runup to the election, but much larger than BLM in the summer of 2020- this time involving not just disgruntled black rioters and looters, but millions of illegal aliens, and pro-Palestinian, anti-America, anti-Israel protestors.

    11. And most importantly, combine everything above with the same gameplan from 2020…

*Mail-in ballots combined with no Voter ID

*Ballot Harvesting (that is a crime everywhere else in the world, but America).

    *Unsupervised Ballot drop boxes

    *No signature match on ballots

*Billions of dollars spent on “election integrity” by globalist billionaires- with the real purpose to rig the turnout in favor of Democrats.

*Social media will rig the election by censoring the news feed to allow only fake positive news about Democrats and only negative stories about Trump.

And of course, the simplest scam of all…

*Keep counting votes for days after Election Night until Democrats win.

Count on much of that, or all of that happening over the next nine months.

    Wanna bet?

    • You might look forward to churches having periodic security meetings as done at the synagogue, where there are exit drills. Each exit door now has a map with the total number of exits. Each exit has a hand clamp at the bottom of the door in addition to the typical lock. There are embossed plaques with directions to flee and–if needed–how to fight back by throwing prayer books and other items.

I recall that in the 80’s, Jews traveling to the European continent had to present their US passport in advance of attending a synagogue. It’s unusual to have a security guard check visitors with a metal detector, but I’ve seen it in LA. More typical is an off-duty police officer or a security guard working alongside one of the synagogue’s volunteers from the “security committee” to question visitors who they don’t recognize. This all costs time and money and no one really knows if these measures have made us safer or just added unnecessary stress. To complete the picture of ambiguity, the security guards wear “bullet-proof” vests.

  3. Fani Willis Axed Employee Who Blew Whistle on Misuse of Federal Funds
Embattled Georgia DA has a ‘pattern’ of ‘ethical violations, abuse of power’ and misusing funds, whistleblower says

Fani Willis may have fired the employee who warned her about mishandling federal funds. But she didn’t deny her allegations.

Less than a year into her tenure as Fulton County district attorney, in 2021, Willis met with Amanda Timpson, an employee in the district attorney’s office responsible for giving nonviolent juvenile offenders “alternatives to the juvenile court system.” During their conversation, a recording of which was reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon, Timpson claimed to Willis that she had been demoted after attempting to stop a top Willis campaign aide from misusing federal grant money meant for a youth gang prevention initiative.

According to Timpson, the aide, Michael Cuffee, planned to use part of a $488,000 federal grant—earmarked for the creation of a Center of Youth Empowerment and Gang Prevention—to pay for “swag,” computers, and travel.

“He wanted to do things with grants that were impossible, and I kept telling him, like, ‘We can’t do that,'” Timpson told Willis in a Nov. 19, 2021, meeting. “He told everybody … ‘We’re going to get MacBooks, we’re going to get swag, we’re going to use it for travel.’ I said, ‘You cannot do that, it’s a very, very specific grant.'”

“I respect that is your assessment,” Willis responded. “And I’m not saying that your assessment is wrong.”

There’s a clip going around of Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar talking to a group of Somalians about her allegiances and priorities as a U.S. congresswoman. What Omar says is instructive, not just about her general worldview but mostly (and more importantly) about how backward and destructive our immigration system is.

Omar is a woman of the left, but her speech over the weekend was pure blood-and-soil nationalism — for Somalia, not America.

    • Marjorie Taylor Greene Introduces Censure Resolution Against ‘Treasonous’ ‘Somalia’ Representative Ilhan Omar
      by Kristinn Taylor Feb. 1, 2024 2:40 pm95 Comments

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took to the House floor on Thursday to introduce a resolution calling for the House of Representatives to censure Somalia refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for her recent remarks indicating loyalty to the government of Somalia. Green’s resolution also calls for Omar to be removed from two House committees. Greene’s censure resolution calls Omar’s remarks “treasonous.” In a statement about the resolution, Greene calls Omar a foreign agent.

Greene said she would prefer for Omar to be expelled from Congress and deported from the United States but she does not believe there are enough votes in Congress for that, so she opted to put forth a censure resolution.

House Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) has called on Omar to resign and has filed a demand for an Ethics Committee investigation of Omar, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has called for Omar to be expelled from Congress, stripped of her American citizenship and deported.

Omar has said her remarks, given in her native Somali language to a meeting of Somali-Americans in Minneapolis on Saturday, have been misinterpreted. However, the preferred translation still raises issues of her loyalty–as do other videos and news reports of her speeches to Somali government officials where she spoke using the words “we” and “our” when speaking to them about Somalia government issues.

  5. Matt Gaetz rallies Republicans to support resolution insisting Donald Trump did NOT incite an insurrection on January 6: Over 25 allies of the embattled former president say he should be exonerated

Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz is urging his colleagues to sign a resolution insisting that Donald Trump did not engage in an insurrection during the January 6 Capitol riot.

DailyMail.com exclusively obtained a copy of the resolution, which already has 27 original co-sponsors. It is being passed around to House Republican offices to round up support before the South Carolina 2024 Republican primary.

It states that it is ‘the sense of the House of Representatives’ that former President Trump ‘did not engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or give aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.’

As reported earlier – The United States Capitol Police have concluded their investigation into a controversial incident involving Aidan Maese-Czeropski, a 24-year-old former aide to Democratic Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland.

Maese-Czeropski had been embroiled in a scandal after a sexually explicit video recorded in the Senate hearing room surfaced online.

The video, which depicted Maese-Czeropski and his partner engaging in anal sex inside the Senate Hearing Room, sparked nationwide controversy. Clad only in a g-string jockstrap, Maese-Czeropski was seen atop the senator’s desk, a setting traditionally reserved for grave legislative deliberations and Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

In the wake of the incident, Maese-Czeropski took to his LinkedIn account to address the situation, stating, “This has been a difficult time for me, as I have been attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda.”

  7. China’s economy is about to implode. We will all feel the aftershocks

vergrande, the embattled Chinese real estate giant with debts of $300 billion, has just been ordered to liquidate by a court in Hong Kong. What effect will this have, both within China and across the global economy?

This latest twist is no surprise. Evergrande has long been dead in the water. The point to grasp is that Evergrande’s latest setback will not trigger a financial crisis in China; it is rather the result of the financial crisis which has been deepening for at least four years.

For far too long, up to 30 per cent of the Chinese economy had depended on a grossly inflated domestic property bubble. By 2020, when the government finally took urgent measures to limit this debt, its corrosive effects had distorted and disabled both the formal banking sector and also the much less accountable and manageable Shadow Banking system. Both are now in serious disarray as a result.

Ramifications of this unregulated borrowing and lending crisis have spread across the economy at large. The collapse of the property and construction bubble has weakened domestic economic confidence, deepening the unemployment crisis and posing major challenges to local government budgets. These domestic concerns have led to the current implosion of the Chinese stock market. In turn this has compelled foreign investors to take a more realistic position on China risk than believing the golden goose fables still being peddled by Beijing. Meanwhile, with some notable exceptions such as EVs, contraction of markets abroad for Chinese products has highlighted how much China remains export-dependent in a cooling global economy.

All of this calls into question the capacity of the Chinese leadership to halt and reverse the decline of the wider economy. Western commentators have been saying for years that China still has significant potential to revitalise its stagnant economy. Provided swift and deep-rooted reform policies are driven through, China could still pull itself out of the current downward spiral.

But this prospect is rapidly vanishing. The piecemeal efforts Beijing has made to prop up failing property giants like Evergrande and their backers, including the likes of Zhongzhi and Wanxiang, have had no fundamental impact. The CCP needs to devolve more economic powers to the private sector, and reverse the trend to ever-tightening centralisation. Yet Xi Jinping, seemingly unable to relinquish the self-defeating Marxist-Leninist ideology of strengthened Party and personal control, has abandoned the former and doubled down on the latter.

Evergrande had effectively defaulted by late 2021. It lost around 66.3 billion that year. Its founder sold $343 million of shares that November. Losses in 2022 were around 14.6 billion. Complex efforts since to manage debt down have all failed, which is reflected in Monday’s Hong Kong ruling. Evergrande’s operation in the US applied for bankruptcy in August last year. The chances are minimal that Evergrande creditors, whether in China or abroad, will see any of their money back.

The Hong Kong ruling may not in itself deliver the death-blow to Evergrande; the chances of full PRC co-operation in the process of liquidation in mainland China are slim. Some other formula will probably be adopted to disperse its toxic fragments more discreetly. But this too symbolises the issue of credibility the CCP is facing. Beijing remains astride the obsolete economic tiger on which Party power and authority has long depended. Now the tiger’s days are plainly numbered, the Chinese leadership still lacks both the vision and courage to dismount.

But the risks of clinging to this misguided orthodoxy are growing. The new generation of Chinese workers, who should drive forward the revival of their nation, no longer enjoys the growth which brought their parents out of poverty and into the now disintegrating housing market. Their inheritance has been frittered away buying millions of properties that will never be completed. Local government, in default of any more realistic strategy, has become largely dependent for its budgets on questionable land sales to developers who are now going under in their tens of thousands. Public resentment and disaffection with the CCP is on the rise. Xi and his henchmen, as yet safe in their Party citadel, may have fewer and fewer choices to make.

  9. Volvo, An Early Electric Car Adopter, Cuts Off Funding For Its EV Affiliate
Move follows other retrenchments by big automakers as sentiment turns against EVs

    STOCKHOLM—Volvo
Car said it won’t provide further funding to Polestar, the electric-car maker it created with Volvo’s Chinese owner Geely—the latest EV retrenchment by the global auto industry.

The auto industry’s pivot to electric vehicles has been rocked by setbacks this year, just as a flood of new battery-powered models is hitting showrooms.

Earlier this week, French automaker Renault
said it has decided to cancel the initial public offering of its electric-car unit Ampere. Ford, meanwhile, has slashed production of its electric F-150 Lightning, a pickup truck that has generated major buzz since its launch. Rental-car firm Hertz has said it was dumping about one-third of its EV rental car fleet, replacing the cars with gas-engine vehicles.

    Also earlier this week, Tesla
—the world’s most valuable automaker—warned of notably lower growth this year. Data earlier this year has shown a slowdown in EV sales growth in the U.S., automakers delaying or cutting back on plans and anxiety rising among dealership owners.

In a sign of investor unease about automakers’ march toward an EV future, Volvo shares surged more than 20% Thursday on its decision to cut off funding to Polestar.

Mobile death vans, firing squads, lethal injections: These are all methods used by China to carry out more state-sanctioned executions than all other nations combined.

While the communist state does not release its official figures, rights groups believe many thousands of people are executed each year – more than the likes of Iran, Saudi Arabia and the US, even when tallied together.

Britain’s nuclear sites could soon be protected by a “robocop” style police force made up of AI-powered drones equipped with paint bombs and smoke guns.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), which runs high-security nuclear sites such as Sellafield and Dounreay, wants to build a robotic police force to cut costs and boost security across sites containing radioactive waste.

It has offered £1.5m to security and defence companies for initial designs of a robotic defence system, with a view to commissioning a fully-fledged version in the future.

The NDA’s document for the project says that a key aim is to cut labour costs by reducing the number of armed police.

Currently, the Civil Nuclear Constabulary employs nearly 1,600 people, with its cost bill rising to £130m in 2022/23 – up from £110m in 2018.

The procurement document said: “The NDA covers 17 nuclear sites, 1,000 hectares of land and over 800 buildings. We are interested in innovative ways to ensure our sites remain safe and secure in a resource-constrained environment.”

  13. Exclusive: Embattled Georgia prosecutor Willis will not recuse herself from Trump case amid affair allegations, sources say

    By Zachary Cohen, CNN

Updated: 12:31 PM EST, Thu February 1, 2024

    Source: CNN

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has no plans to step down from the Georgia election subversion case over allegations she’s having an affair with her lead prosecutor, a decision driven in part over concern that her departure would effectively end the case against Donald Trump and his multiple defendants, sources familiar with the thinking inside the DA’s office told CNN.

The sprawling racketeering case still has no trial date, and Willis and her team are keenly aware that the window to go to trial before the 2024 election is rapidly shrinking. Any change in the team handling the prosecution would likely delay the proceedings, and it’s unclear if another prosecutor in Georgia would even be inclined to take up the case, given its political and legal challenges.

Willis has faced immense public scrutiny since allegations first surfaced that she has benefitted financially from a romantic relationship with lead prosecutor Nathan Wade. Despite calls by some legal experts to recuse herself from the case to protect its integrity, she is not expected to do so, the sources told CNN.

Instead, Willis is preparing to counter arguments from Trump and other co-defendants, not by necessarily disputing claims about the relationship but by arguing that defense attorneys seeking to remove her are wrong on the law, sources said.

Despite her relative public silence since the allegations surfaced, Willis has been personally involved in crafting her office’s formal response, according to a source familiar with her role.
    Crucial few weeks

Willis has until Friday to provide written responses to the allegations lodged by Mike Roman, a former Trump campaign operative from 2020 who is a co-defendant in the case, setting up a crucial few weeks.

Judge Scott McAfee has scheduled a February 15 hearing for both sides to present evidence related to the allegations. CNN previously reported that defense attorneys issued nearly a dozen subpoenas for potential witnesses to testify publicly in that hearing, including to Willis, Wade and others.

While some inside the DA’s office believe the odds are low Willis will ultimately have to take the stand during the February 15 evidentiary hearing, sources acknowledge it is not out of the question.

Willis was also subpoenaed in Wade’s contentious divorce dispute in neighboring Cobb County, but the judge has paused any decision on whether she will ultimately have to testify. Wade was scheduled to testify on Wednesday over allegations he hid income from his estranged wife but on Tuesday afternoon, the dispute was temporarily settled, much to the relief of some in the DA’s office, a source told CNN.

Despite her intention to focus on the legal merits of the case, the allegations have provided cover for some political allies of Trump to resume attacking Willis and the case itself. Still, a source familiar with the thinking inside the DA’s office told CNN they would be “mystified” if it succeeds in removing her.

Norm Eisen, who served as White House Ethics czar during the Obama administration and is a CNN legal analyst, has called for Wade — but not Willis — to voluntarily step aside from the case despite arguing that neither are disqualified under Georgia law.

“I think it is the wise thing to do, but it is not legally required for him to step aside,” Eisen told reporters last month, referring to Wade. Eisen said the allegations do not concern him about Willis’ ability to try the case.

Wade’s immediate future remains unclear. Sources said there are no immediate plans for Wade to step down but if he did, Willis could replace him with another lead prosecutor or lean on her experienced staff without causing a delay in the proceedings.

  14. Gov. Noem to Newsmax: Cartels Infiltrating Protected Tribal Lands

By Michael Katz | Wednesday, 31 January 2024 10:30 PM EST

Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem told Newsmax on Wednesday that Mexican drug cartels have set up shop on tribal reservations in her state because they know the federal government has jurisdiction over those lands, and that the Biden administration is “letting it happen.”

“Even though South Dakota isn’t a neighboring state to Texas, we’re on the front lines of this thing,” Noem said on “Eric Bolling The Balance.” “I’ve got nine Native American tribes, and the cartels are set up on our tribal grounds. They are facilitating this drug trafficking, this human trafficking through my tribal grounds here in South Dakota because I don’t have jurisdiction there.

“The Department of Justice and the federal government have jurisdiction on our reservations. I don’t as a state, so [the cartels are] using these areas of federal lands as havens for their criminal activity. Every single state literally is a border state because we’ve got these cartels throughout the country in protected areas, and Joe Biden is letting it happen.”

  15. Biden Admin-Released Migrant Crime Wave Sweeping Sanctuary Cities

Sancutary cities and their suburbs are experiencing a crime wave from migrants who are released by the Biden administration after illegally crossing the border between ports of entry. Police, particularly in the Chicago area and New York City, reported significant increases in crime related to migrants relocated to their cities.

The police chief of Oak Brook, Illinois, a suburb of the sanctuary city of Chicago, is reporting a series of crimes being committed by migrants who the Biden administration released after they illegally crossed the border between ports of entry. Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strokis reported six felony arrests of migrants in a single day and a total of 49 migrant arrests since October 23.

“I believe that six felony arrests in one day illustrates that migrant criminal activity is a real problem,” Chief Strockis said in a statement released by DuPage County. “The amount of these types of arrests that we have had in the last couple of months is significant and would be taxing for any police department. We are well prepared to continue our enforcement efforts and I can assure you that there are easier places to commit these crimes than Oak Brook or DuPage County.”

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D) sounded the alarm that his city is nearing a “breaking point” as it struggles to keep up with the flood of migrants.

“I think our city is very close to its breaking point now,” Johnston said in an interview aired Wednesday on “Fox & Friends.”

“And we’ve been talking to leaders in D.C. around the country about why we need them to take action here. I think we have successfully welcomed almost 40,000 migrants in the last year and — and we know what it takes to do this successfully, we just need that help,” he continued.

In the interview with Fox News’s Lawrence Jones, Johnston said more needs to be done to address the influx of migrants crossing into the United States, including getting resources to streamline work authorizations and more federal support.

“And the things we need are — yes, we need federal dollars, but the most important thing is we need, you know, work authorization for folks when they arrive, and we need those resources at the border so you can add more security at the border and so you can help process those asylum claims so the folks that do arrive here can work,” Johnston said.

NYC homeless shelter population surges 53% during migrant crisis: mayor’s report

The number of homeless people in New York City’s shelter system skyrocketed 53% over the past year — driven by the unrelenting surge of migrants, according to Mayor Eric Adams’s preliminary management report released Tuesday.

The report compares data and performance of city agencies for the first four months of the fiscal year — July through October of 2023 — with the same period in 2022.
    More On: migrants

“During the first four months of Fiscal 2024, the average number of individuals in shelter per day increased by 53 percent compared to the same period in Fiscal 2023, driven by the unprecedented increase in entrants, primarily asylum seekers who made up over half of all entrants during the period,” the Department of Homeless Services said its quarterly assessment of its shelter system included in the 432-page report.

There was an average of 83,985 people in city-run shelters per day during the quarterly period compared to 54,738 individuals in 2022.

“The flow of asylum seekers to New York City drove a 147 percent increase in entries to shelter for families with children and a 185 percent increase in entries to shelter for adult families,” the report said.

The report noted the number of single adults entering the shelters run or overseen by the DHS plummeted by 13% compared to a year ago.
