Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

    • I can see the top brass doing this, I have trouble seeing the vast majority of the enlisted following the orders to do this.

    • On my last trip to the VA everyone was worried about the Dems stealing the next election.

      FYI what they are doing is illegal and will be considered mutiny when Trump wins.

          Gates monopolizes and wields his power and influence over the tech industry, GLOBAL VACCINES, global food policies, weather modifications, education, surveillance, agriculture and the media.

          He is a university dropout, not a scientist, not a doctor, nor is he an expert in anything other than making money. According to him vaccines are a great profit maker with more than a 20-1 return. He is not an elected individual.

          Their discussions this week may include their latest CYA plandemic X. They no doubt will plant the seed again about their “Global Catastrophic Contagion” another table top discussion, another forecast of mass death just like Event 201– Deagle’s protection of mass deaths.

          There are excess deaths all around the world since the vaccine rollout. Will people finally understand the vaccines are fulfilling their plans.

      Four days after the USW and UK first air-raided the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, the capability of the group appears to remain untouched, as the missile strikes on ships on the Red Sea have not stopped.

      It now arises that a missile hit a US cargo ship in the vicinity of the Yemeni port of Aden.

      “Houthi forces in Yemen struck the U.S.-owned and operated container ship M/V Gibraltar Eagle with an anti-ship ballistic missile, U.S Central Command said on Monday, although there were no reports of injuries or significant damage.”

      Yuval Noah Harari, one of Barack Obama’s favorite authors and a frequent speaker at Davos, made some shocking statements in an interview with Steven Bartlett, a British YouTuber who runs the channel The Diary of a CEO.

      Harari frequently posits the idea that human beings are “hackable” creatures lacking true free will. In a past interview, he raised “the big political and economic question of the 21st century,” which is “What do we need humans for? Or at least, what do we need so many humans for?”

      However, Harari seems to now acknowledge that globalist viewpoints, including his own, are becoming increasingly unpopular. When asked the question, “Are you concerned that Trump might be elected again shortly?”, Harari responded, “I think it’s very likely.”

      What Harari said next raised even more eyebrows: “… and if it happens [Trump is elected], it is likely to be the kind of like the death blow to what remains of the global order.”

      “And he [Trump] says it openly,” Harari added. He argued that figures like Trump and other politicians present a “false dichotomy” between nationalism and globalism, implying that both can co-exist at the same time:

      “It should be clear that many of these politicians — they present a false dichotomy, a false binary vision of the world as if you have to choose between patriotism and globalism, between being loyal to your nation and being loyal to some kind of global government or whatever.”

    The White House was swatted after a prank caller claimed the residence was on fire.

    Joe Biden is currently at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Catoctin Mountain Park in Maryland. He is expected to return to the White House on Monday.

    According to CNN, the call was traced to a fake phone number.

    “The call, which came at 7:03 a.m., was determined by District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services and U.S. Secret Service personnel to be a false alarm.” The Daily Mail reported.

    The Daily Mail reported:

    Fire trucks and ambulances swarmed the White House on Monday morning after a caller told 911 dispatchers the building was on fire and someone was trapped inside in what appears to be a ‘swatting’ incident.

    President Joe Biden was at Camp David when the call came. D.C. fire and emergency services dispatched 13 units in response.

    But the call was quickly determined a false alarm. The White House now appears to be the latest victim in the dangerous ‘swatting’ trend that is sweeping the country.

  17. Lawfare Against Trump Is Running Out of Gas

    Prosecutors are discovering that the more they seek to rush to judgment before the election and gag Trump from speaking publicly about these proceedings, the more he rises in the polls.

    We should dispense with the tired narrative that four conscientious state and federal prosecutors—independently and without contact with the Biden White House or the radical Democrats in Congress—all came to the same disinterested conclusions that Donald Trump should be indicted for various crimes and put on trial during the campaign season of 2024.

    The prosecutors began accelerating their indictments only once Trump started to lead incumbent Joe Biden by sizable margins in head-to-head polls. Moreover, had Trump not run for the presidency, or had he been of the same party as most of the four prosecutors, he would have never been indicted by any of them.

    Yet now they are in a doom loop of discovering that the more they seek to rush to judgment before the election and gag Trump from speaking publicly about these star-chamber proceedings, the more he rises in the polls.

    In truth, each succeeding cycle of corrupt leftwing lawfare that ends in failure—the Russian collusion hoax, the weaponized first impeachment, trying ex-president Trump in the Senate as a private citizen, the laptop disinformation set-up, the Alfa bank ping caper, the pathetic attempt to erase Trump from state ballots, and the unfolding Fani Willis moral debacle—does not return things to zero.

    Rather, they serve as force multipliers for each other. Each overreach geometrically increases the dangers to democracy, ever more turns the public off, and ironically cascades sympathy and poll numbers for the very target of their paranoias.

    Some of the prosecutors have colluded with White House lawyers and congressional liaisons. Some had run for office, offering campaign promises to get Trump convicted for something or other.

    Now, after years of delays and deadends, all four are rushing to synchronize their trial dates to ensure that the front-running Trump is on the docket daily and not out on the 2024 campaign trail.

    We learn, allegedly, that 1) Willis hired her stealth boyfriend Nathan Wade as a special counsel, the day before he filed for divorce (whose records were then mysteriously sealed by the court); 2) that Wade so far has received over $650,000 as special counsel, reportedly including a miraculous ability to charge for 24 hours of continuous legal service in a single day; 3) that Willis and Wade allegedly have used her greenlighted windfall to him to go on a number of pricey junkets and cruises; 4) that to try an ex-president and the leading candidate in the 2024 presidential election, Willis picked Wade who had never tried a single felony case and was previously a “personal injury/accident” lawyer; 5) that the supposedly apolitical Willis had consulted with the January 6 partisan congressional special committee, while Wade had met for marathon meetings with the Biden White House legal counsel (and apparently billed Georgia taxpayers for receiving such federal tutorials).

    The legal community’s initial dismissal of this sordid prosecutor’s office is reminiscent of the immediate efforts to downplay Claudine Gay’s plagiarism. But the charade will eventually end the same way, in this case with the resignation and likely indictment of the prosecutor, along with her boyfriend, who concocted quite a scheme at the expense of the taxpayers. Both have made a mockery of their indictment of an ex-president and, if the allegations are true, will be disbarred and prosecuted.

    The other three indictments are even weaker. Alvin Bragg claims that Donald Trump’s efforts a near decade ago to enact nondisclosure agreements and payments to remain silent about embarrassing behavior constituted “campaign finance violations.”

    If so, what then defines campaign violations when Ms. Clinton brazenly destroyed nearly 30,000 subpoenaed campaign-era emails, ordered subpoenaed communication devices smashed, illegally hired a foreign national to find dirt on a campaign rival, and used three paywalls to hide her hush payments to British subject Steele to concoct a smear dossier—with help from Russian sources—to destroy her 2016 rival?

    Letitia James, apparently for the first time in New York history, believes a bank was somehow wronged when its seasoned auditors viewed Trump’s assets, approved a loan to him, profited from his timely payments of interest and principles, and lodged no complaints against Trump or his company.

    James apparently believes that Donald Trump is the first and most egregious real estate baron in New York history who inflated the value of his holdings. Her indictments thus supposedly have nothing to do with a left-wing political activist who ran for attorney general on promises to get Trump.

    As far as Jack Smith, he supposedly was to be focused on Trump’s removal of classified presidential files to an insecure location at his Mar-a-Lago home and Trump’s “insurrectionary” actions on January 6. But he seems way beyond that now and is trying to put a gag order on the presidential frontrunner and to ensure Trump is in court during the 2024 campaign—challenging the very administration that appointed Smith in the first place.

    In truth, Trump was the first ex-president in history to be indicted for a dispute with archivists over the status and security of removed classified files. Such disagreements were historically adjudicated bureaucratically rather than criminally, and certainly not with performance-art FBI swat raids into an ex-presidential residence.

    Moreover, true insurrectionists do not instruct protestors to assemble peacefully and patriotically. Insurrectionists themselves do not try to overthrow governments while unarmed and accompanied by bare-chested buffoons with cow horns and slow-moving septuagenarians draped in American flags. And during an “insurrection,” unarmed “rebels” are usually not invited into the government quarters by supposed government doormen, among them perhaps 150-200 FBI informants. They are usually not shot and killed for the crime of entering a broken window while unarmed. And governments need not lie about the violence of insurrectionaries if they are truly insurrectionists.

    Jack Smith’s problem—aside from his similar previous effort as special counsel to bankrupt and destroy the life and career of former Virginia governor Bob McDonald, a conviction overturned 9-0 by the Supreme Court—is that his indictments are so asymmetrical as to be surreal.

    If the Department of Justice really wishes to prosecute insurrection, then it should concentrate on 120 days of arson, looting, killing, and violent protests that destroyed $2 billion in property, led to over 35 deaths, injured 1,500 law enforcement officers, and saw a federal courthouse, a police precinct, and a historic church torched by protestors, months of violent chaos planned and orchestrated by Antifa and Black Lives Matter, and enabled by leftwing inert mayors and governors.

    The future Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, sought to organize bail for violent rioters. She boasted on television that the protests would not stop, should not stop, and would continue beyond the 2020 elections. Could she have at least suggested to the rioters to protest “peacefully and patriotically?” And just last week, President Biden praised that months-long violent summer of looting, violence, arson, and destruction, calling it “the historic movement for justice in the summer of 2020.”

    Or Smith could investigate the well-orchestrated and increasingly violent pro-Hamas rallies. These are “insurrections” that have stormed the California legislature, occupied the Capitol rotunda, defaced and defiled iconic federal monuments and cemeteries, shut down key bridges and freeways, attacked law enforcement, and led to violence and assaults.

    If Trump is guilty of removing files that he had the statutory right as president to formally declassify, then what was senator and subsequent Vice President Joe Biden guilty of when he stealthily and unlawfully removed hundreds of files, kept the removals secret (until his administration went after Trump for the same offense), and sloppily stored them in his insecure garage?

    At each juncture of these extra-legal efforts, past precedents, former customs, and accepted traditions are being destroyed by the Left, whose endless miscarriages of justice are the real threats to constitutional government. And the more impotent these serial and unending gambits become, the more strident and desperate they appear.

  18. Plausible Denial: Inside Iran’s ‘Axis of Resistance’ Against Israel

    As fighting intensifies between Palestinian terrorist group Hamas and Israel, Iran has been increasingly vocal about the prospect of additional firepower entering the fray to score a victory for what Tehran calls the “axis of resistance” against Israel.

    The axis, refined by the Islamic republic over the last four decades, is a loose-knit network of proxies, Tehran-backed militant groups, and allied state actors who play an important role in Iran’s strategy to oppose the West, Arab foes, and, primarily, Israel.

    Active in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and elsewhere, the network allows Iran to create chaos in enemy territory, while allowing it to maintain a position of plausible deniability.

    “Axis of resistance” is a new terms that describes an old phenomenon, according to Ali Alfoneh, senior fellow at the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington. The term applies to “any individual or group willing to fight Iran’s wars in return for funding, arms, military training, and intelligence support,” Alfoneh told RFE/RL.This relative autonomy, which at times has even seen proxies and partners work against Tehran’s regional interests, makes it difficult to pin blame directly on Iran.

    “If there is any kind of kinetic retaliation, your proxy, your partner absorbs the retaliation, and if your adversary wants to widen the scope, they have a hard time politically connecting the dots to do that,” according to Behnam Ben Taleblu, senior fellow at the Washington-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank.

    ‘Successful Proxy Strategy’

    The October 7 assault on Israel carried out by the Sunni terrorist group Hamas was a case in point, with Iran lauding the attack that killed more than 1,400 Israelis and triggered retaliatory Israeli strikes on Gaza that have so far killed more than 3,700 people.

    But despite Iran’s longstanding support of Hamas — which Alfoneh said is historically closer to Sunni Arab states and is for the most part funded by Qatar — Israel and the West have not been able to directly tie the assault to Iran.

    “When assessing the connective tissue between Iran and Hamas, we can’t forget that the desire for Iran to disguise its own hand plays into the Islamic republic’s own successful proxy strategy,” Taleblu said. “The fact that some folks are having a hard time finding an immediate go order, or a very clear green light, is the success of the proxy strategy.”

    The axis of resistance is part of Iran’s attempts to export the Twelver Jafari School of Shi’a Islam, which was named as Iran’s official religion after 1979, and “it’s kind of messianic vision for what the Middle East would look like,” Taleblu said.

    “This ideology only has resonance when the Middle East is in chaos, and the Islamic republic is an expert in managing chaos,” he added.

  19. Dead Voters’ Names Discovered on Vivek Ramaswamy’s Nomination Papers

    Election officials in Warwick, Rhode Island, have discovered dead voters’ names on Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s nomination papers.

    In a report, the Warwick Board of Canvassers revealed several deceased voters’ names were found on the paperwork of Ramaswamy’s nomination papers.

    The Coventry Board also had to “invalidate an unusually high number of signatures” submitted on behalf of the Ramaswamy’s campaign.

    Ben Smith, who serves as a spokesperson for Rhode Island’s Board of Election, stated “The Board of Elections asked for local boards of canvassers to be extra vigilant and to notify them if they see patterns of fraudulent signatures,”

  20. DEVELOPING: Texas Grid Operator Asks Residents to Conserve Energy, Unplug Appliances, Amid Bitter Cold Snap Due to Issues with Solar, Wind Generation

    Texas grid operator ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) on Monday asked residents to conserve electricity use as temperatures fall below zero with the wind chill in some parts of the state.

    The conservation alert comes one day after ERCOT issued a warning to Texas residents as the state braces for freezing rain, snow and subzero temps.

    ERCOT manages electric power to more than 26 million Texas customers and represents 90% of the state’s electric load, according to the company.

    The Texas grid operator begged residents to avoid using large appliances, lower thermostats a degree or two, turn off and unplug non-essential lights, and set pool pumps to run early morning or overnight; shut off during peak hours due to issues with solar, wind generation.

    The officers are seen wearing their official SAPD uniforms, driving work vehicles and holstering their service weapons while accepting money from alleged Cartel sponsored NGO’s to guard the facility and check illegal migrants wristbands upon entry.

    Spine-tingling Exposé of Crass TX Police Protecting Human Smuggling by NGOs

    This footage is by our friend Tayler Hanson of Tenet Media, who bravely recorded footage of San Antonio police officers being belligerent to him and refusing to answer his questions about what they were doing at a center that is hosting illegal immigrants.

    In a gripping exchange between reporter Tayler Hansen and the San Antonio Police Department at a migrant center in Texas, startling revelations unfolded. Hansen, on the scene to expose alleged human smuggling facilitated by NGOs, confronted officers in their official San Antonio PD uniforms guarding the facility.

    Hansen claimed that the police officers were taking side contracts from the NGOs, earning extra pay to ensure the security of the area. The tension escalated as Hansen questioned the officers about their involvement, asking if they were being contracted and paid by the NGOs. Despite being met with silence and no comments from the officers, Hansen persisted, pointing out the potential conflict of interest in police officers receiving payment from organizations linked to alleged human smuggling.

    I’ve spent the last few days in Guatemala listening to some horrific stories of State Department officials trying to intimidate Guatemalans from criticizing Left wing policies.

    The Embassy has summoned business and political leaders to their offices to ask them to stop supporting the Attorney General, her work and conservative policies. They even demanded that people not support her re-election a few years ago.

    They are demanding people support Left wing policies or else.

    This is an outrageous weaponization of visas, investigations and financial sanctions.

    Embassy officials have even threatened Magnitsky sanctions on some who continue to support the Attorney General of Guatemala.

    What the Biden team is doing to conservatives in America is exactly what they are doing overseas – thru the State Department’s INL and WHA leadership.

    It’s unAmerican and just may be illegal.

    I’ve called for the State Department IG to launch an investigation as quickly as possible. I know several U.S. Senators agree.

    COVID mRNA Vaccine Injury Hearing: “We Played God” and It Isn’t Going Well

    The global medical community wants us to believe that COVID-19 synthetic mRNA shots are safe and effective. They are not. Tragically, both the scientific and the medical communities have ignored the signal, resulting in mass inoculation followed by injury and even death worldwide in far too many cases. In Friday’s hearing on COVID-19 vaccine injury, renowned internist and cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough stated this “was the most dangerous proposition our government agencies could have ever put forward to our country.” McCullough, Dr. Ryan Cole, and pediatric cardiologist Dr. Kirk Mihoan were present to testify. It was the first time in four years that U.S. House of Representatives members heard from practicing physicians. “Four years too late,” according to Dr. McCullough.

    Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene led the Jan. 12 discussion alongside Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) and U.S. Representatives Warren Davidson (R-OH) and Andy Biggs (R-AZ). Johnson has led several informative roundtables featuring these doctors and other medical professionals on topics related to the pandemic. Johnson’s focus has primarily centered on early treatment, alleged government malfeasance, and misinformation. These doctors and many others who have spoken against the establishment have paid dearly, professionally and personally.

    Senator Ron Johnson shared a clear-cut example of “ignored signal” during the hearing when he spoke about flu vaccines. Comparing flu vaccine outcomes with COVID-19 vaccine outcomes, Johnson shared that with 70 percent of the U.S. population inoculated, “the deaths per million doses for the COVID vaccine is 25.1.” In contrast, he added, “The deaths per million doses for the flu vaccine, assuming 70 percent are injected, is 0.46. 0.46 versus 25.1. That is a 55-fold higher death per million rate for the COVID vaccine.”

    Senator Johnson also read off an alarmingly extensive list of known severe side effects from the COVID-19 vaccines, severe side effects our government “wanted to hide from the public for 75 years. What drove it?” Johnson lamented. “What drove this establishment to basically say we don’t care? Was it a drive for money? We didn’t care as long as we got this vaccine.” McCullough offered it stretches credulity to believe the shots are not causative because, in many, many cases, injury or death occurs within three days of injection. He says the shots “may cause harm five years after infection.”

    All three doctors maintain that mRNA shots should be “banned for use in humans and animals.” Cole declared the mRNA platform should be removed entirely from the market and “used only for research.” Poor legislation, healthcare consolidation under Obamacare, fear, and “intertwining corrupted interests” resulting in financial gain were discussed as primary motivations for the campaign to innoculate as many individuals as possible worldwide. Regarding treatments for COVID, it seems that wellbeing and safety were the least of their concerns.

    The Spike Protein is Lethal
    McCullough is a walking encyclopedia of peer-reviewed research on COVID-19 shots and the pandemic. During the hearing, he cited, by memory, copious numbers of peer-reviewed papers going back to 2021 on the harmful effects of the COVID-19 shots. These shots, said McCollough, are “very different from traditional vaccines.” McCullough reminded listeners that the dangers of mRNA technology go back to 1985.

    McCullough stated he “always knew” the “spike protein was lethal.” So did many others if you cared to look. He explained in his opening statement the dangers of the mRNA technology:

    “These vaccines are a brand new technology that installs the genetic code for the lethal part of the virus, which is the spike protein, the spine on the surface of the virus. This was an extraordinary gamble because there was no knowledge of what was gonna turn this off once the genetic code gets in the body. There was no knowledge of does the body get rid of the genetic code. What shuts it off? Well, some people produce too much genetic code that keeps moving from cell to cell with too much spike protein. It was known then that the spike protein was lethal. To give a genetic code for a potentially lethal protein that was devised in a Chinese bio-security lab to Americans?! It is the most dangerous proposition our government agencies could have ever put forward to our country!”

    In many cases, said McCullough, “The body produces an uncontrolled amount of a protein, in this case the spike protein, for an uncontrolled duration of time.” The mRNA shots are very different from your average vaccines. Referencing the Tetanous shot as a comparison, “the body digests this, and [it] goes away.” Messenger RNA shots, on the other hand, said McCullough, are “genetic code that produces the spike protein, it looks like indefinitely. The human body, to our knowledge, has no way of breaking down the messenger RNA and no way of breaking down the spike protein. There are no enzymatic pathways for the human body to dispose of this. In my view”, he continued, “the COVID-19 program has complicated this because people have taken unprecedented numbers of shots.”

    This is Joe Biden’s guiding principle. He took President Donald J. Trump’s much-tighter southern border and ripped it as wide open as a gutted trout’s belly. Biden turned Trump’s energy independence into begging Iran and Venezuela to pump more oil. He also devolved Trump’s peace in the Middle East into a five-front Arab war on Israel and let the Houthi terrorists convert the Red Sea into a shooting gallery.

    And for his next trick, Biden wants to impersonate a Latin autocrat.

    On December 7, a date that shall live in infamy, Biden’s Commerce Department proposed a mechanism to invoke the so-called “march-in” clause of 1980’s bipartisan Bayh-Dole Act. This would empower Uncle Sam to capture and control patents that fully or partially were funded with federal research grants, if Washington bureaucrats disliked the market prices or rollout speeds of their ensuing technologies.

    As usual, Biden hopes to capsize the efficient, productive status quo. Since senators Birch Bayh (D -Indiana) and Bob Dole (R – Kansas) secured this legislation, universities and other institutions have owned the patents that emerged from federally funded research. Many then license these patents to companies and entrepreneurs who nurture them into goods and services. (Officially this law is the University and Small Business Patent Procedures Act of 1980.)

    “Since its passage more than 40 years ago, the Act has spurred nearly 300 new drugs and discoveries that have driven the innovation economy — contributing $1.7 trillion to the US gross industrial output and adding more than 5.9 million jobs,” according to Laura Savatski, former chair of AUTM, an intellectual property licensing group.

    Before Bayh-Dole, under 5% of federally supported patents were licensed. By 2022, AUTM data show, 9,884 licenses and options arose among that year’s 16,857 US patent applications. By that measure, 58.6% of patents typically are licensed each year, nearly 12 times the pre-Bayh-Dole pace.

    The resulting embarrassment of riches has improved lives from Kansas to Kazakhstan:

    Google’s pioneering search algorithm
    Firefighting drones
    HDTVs
    Honeycrisp apples
    Nicotine patches
    Rotavirus vaccines
    Taxol cancer therapy
    Touch screens
    Windows software
    Zerit anti-AIDS treatments

    Now imagine life with few new amusements, business tools, or medical cures. The ever-meddlesome Biden now wants new powers to reassign or simply nationalize patent licenses if his pests decide that these items are not marketed quickly or cheaply enough.

    “Bayh-Dole did not intend that government set prices on resulting products,” its authors explained in The Washington Post. “The law makes no reference to a reasonable price that should be dictated by the government. This omission was intentional.” (RELATED: DEROY MURDOCK: Boom Boom — Out Go The Lights!)

    Such Big Government caprice would karate chop private investment. Why would venture capitalists license new patents if federal busybodies could march in, expropriate, and award them to politically connected competitors?

    Even worse, anti-capitalist bureaucrats could snatch licenses and sit on them while chanting, “Equity!” “Social justice!” or “Climate!”

    Biden & Co. argue that when the state goes marching in, cheaper medicines will flow like the mighty Mississippi. This will prove to be yet another Marxist mirage, as drug companies avoid licensing patents for fear of being fleeced by the Everything for All crowd.

    Taxpayers also will suffer if these patents cannot be harnessed. They never will taste the fruits of scientific developments that stay theoretical. They also will not collect the corporate taxes that commercialization now yields.

    While America faces a $34 trillion national debt, and $875.5 billion in annual debt service, the marginal corporate taxes from these new products represent federal revenues generated by economic growth rather than higher tax rates. Even the late, great Milton Friedman would bless such tax receipts. Assuming today’s 21% corporate tax, Bayh-Dole’s $1.7 trillion in blessings already would have rendered unto Ceasar up to $357 billion.

    Bayh-Dole was “possibly the most inspired piece of legislation to be enacted in America over the past half-century,” The Economist swooned in 2002. It “unlocked all the inventions and discoveries that had been made in laboratories throughout the United States with the help of taxpayers’ money. More than anything, this single policy measure helped to reverse America’s precipitous slide into industrial irrelevance.”

    Twenty-two years later, Joe Biden is not amused. As he bans gas stoves and incandescent bulbs, mandates electric vehicles, censors his critics, and labors to imprison the leader of the opposition, he increasingly resembles the late, not great Latin dictator Hugo Chavez. Giving Biden and his comrades the power to smash patents and grab them for “better uses” would imperil property rights and endanger innovation. This could cripple the conveyor belt that speeds modern marvels from university labs to Best Buys, Walgreens, and Whole Foods across America.

    Joe Biden should peel his sticky fingers off of Bayh-Dole.

    The rapid succession of bank failures last spring clearly spooked federal regulators at the FDIC, the Federal Reserve Board, and bank depositors. The bad decision-making at Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank, and First Republic Bank, caused the regulators to implement emergency life preserver measures to banks and conjured up memories of the 2008 financial crisis.

    But as the saying goes, in Washington a crisis is always a terrible thing to waste and so we are seeing a reflexive response for more government intervention. No surprise that Senate Democrats immediately pounced into action calling on federal regulators to add another layer of rules including a complex increase in capital requirements on the U.S. banking system. Reacting quickly, the Federal Reserve, with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the FDIC released a joint proposal for the U.S. implementation of the so-called “Basel III regulatory framework.” These are complex rules, but in a nutshell, these rules would increase the amount of money that banks hold in reserve by 25%.

    Sorry, this WON’T stop occasional bank failures of the hundreds of banks in America. What it will do is choke off lending to small businesses, homebuyers, and consumers that need loans.

    The theory behind higher capital requirements is that banks will have more money in reserve to offset the losses from loans that go sour. Bank reserve requirements are a good safety precaution for sure. We don’t want banks to take on too much risk and then rush to a taxpayer safety net every time they are in trouble. But many well-respected government and private studies have found that American banks as a group are NOT undercapitalized, nor were the banks that failed.

    The situation in the Middle East took a turn for the worse with a reported major escalation by Iran that claimed responsibility for bombings near the American Consulate and Airport in Erbil, Iraq.

    Arabic media is reporting 6 explosions using missiles and drones.

    Reuters reported:

    “Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they attacked espionage centers and ‘gatherings of anti-Iranian terrorist groups’ near Iraq’s northern city of Erbil with ballistic missiles, Iranian state media said late on Monday.

    Explosions were heard in an area some 40 kilometers northeast of Erbil in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, three security sources said, in an area near the U.S. consulate as well as civilian residences.”

    Two dead and five wounded civilians were brought to a local hospital after the explosions, and Air traffic at Erbil airport was halted.

    “Ballistic missiles were used to destroy espionage centers and gatherings of anti-Iranian terrorist groups in the region late tonight,” Iran’s Guards said in a statement.

    Iran has in the past sometimes carried out strikes in Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region, saying the area is used as a staging ground for Iranian separatist groups as well as agents of its arch-foe Israel.”
