Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    The inverted yield curve is one of the most reliable economic leading indicators. If the yield curve of Treasury Bills becomes inverted it means short-term government debt pays more than the long term debt. Lending money to someone longer means you should be compensated more for your greater risk, not to mention the longer period of time you are without your money.

    From what I understand, the inverted yield curve as a leading indicator is never wrong. When it inverts, a recession is always just months away. This time, the curve may be more inverted than at any other time in history.

    The never-ending coke issues of the Joe Biden family and administration from hell have produced another infamous chapter.

    A mere few days after the Secret Service wrapped up a hasty unsuccessful probe over cocaine found in the West Wing of the White House, it now surfaces that the US has suspended satellite monitoring of Colombia coca leaf fields – a move that comes amid a historical spike in production.

    The move has horrible optics, and it’s fuelling an ongoing unrest over the deeply unsatisfactory results of the Secret Service probe: no suspect identified, case closed.

    • This isn’t new. When you buy a can of coke at the store, you hand over money. When a tenant enters into a lease the landlord first checks whether the tenant has the ability to pay. This does not include anything other than looking at pay stubs and income tax statements. People who earn income in the US who don’t have an SSN can document their income and pay taxes after getting a TIN from the IRS.

    Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen dined on magic mushrooms during her recent visit to China.

    Yellen was spotted dining at Yi Zuo Yi Wang, a restaurant that serves jian shou qing, a Yunnan wild mushroom species, according to a Chinese food blogger.

    According to the microblogger, Yellen had four portions of the psychedelic mushrooms.

  18. Just Another Crime Wave Weekend in Chicago: Construction Crew Targeted and Off-Duty Police Officer Robbed

    Another weekend of crime has enveloped Chicago. The latest victims, among many, include an off-duty police officer and a construction robbed at gunpoint in the Logan Square neighborhood.

    How are those socialist policies working out Chi-town?

    CWB Chicago reports:

    In River North, the off-duty officer was with a friend, leaving a nightclub in the 200 block of West Ontario, when three armed men confronted them around 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a law enforcement source. The robbers took the victims’ property, then fled the scene in a Nissan Altima.

    Perhaps coincidentally, a group of construction workers were robbed in the 1700 block of North Washtenaw around 2:40 p.m. Friday. A surveillance video shared with CWBChicago showed three masked gunmen robbing a construction crew on the sidewalk. The offenders, at least one armed with a rifle, went through the workers’ pockets, taking phones, credit cards, and other items. They escaped in a small black car.

    No arrests have been announced in any of the crimes.

    CWB Chicago shared an email from Alderman Daniel La Spata (1st) to his constituents after two armed men robbed Tip Top Liquor, also in Logan Square, Friday night:

    I’m very sad to share that one of the employees at community staple Bucktown Food & Liquor was shot yesterday evening during a robbery. As a frequent customer, I went this afternoon to share my sympathy with the manager, who shared that the employee who was shot is recovering and that they are getting very positive engagement from area detectives. My team is committed to their staff and area detectives and I sincerely hope the perpetrators are brought to justice. As always, I will continue to work with our 14th District police on any actionable updates and support that my team and I can provide.

  21. Federal public service employees put on leave without pay for refusing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination told a labour tribunal that infections in the workforce rose tenfold after the mandate was implemented, citing the government’s own data.
    “Why did people become sick in such great numbers in the public service if they were immunized?” asked Bernard Desgagné, who represents two employees whose files are being adjudicated by the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board.
    The board is currently hearing its first case related to grievances from public servants whose salaries were withheld and employment insurance benefits denied for not complying with the vaccine mandate, which was in effect from October 2021 to June 2022.
    Mr. Desgagné, a public servant himself and not a lawyer, put the question to Dr. Celia Lourenco who was being cross-examined on July 13. Dr. Lourenco, currently the acting associate assistant deputy minister with Health Canada, was formerly the the department’s director-general of the Biologic and Radiopharmaceutical Drugs Directorate and as such had final authority on new vaccine approvals during the COVID crisis.
    Mr. Desgagné presented official data showing that before the mandate was imposed, the government had tallied on average 321 cases of COVID-19 infections per month among public servants.
    After the mandate came into force, that number jumped to 3,297 cases per month, a tenfold increase, or almost 1,000 percent. Some of the government data presented comes with the caveat that the “total number of cases may not reflect an accurate count due to the lack of availability of tests.”

    A shut-off could force Central European countries to scramble to replace Russian gas.

    Kyiv is unlikely to renew a gas transit deal that allows Russia’s Gazprom to export natural gas to the EU using pipelines running across Ukraine, Energy Minister German Galushchenko told POLITICO.

    The 2019 transit deals runs until the end of 2024 and allows Gazprom to export more than 40 billion cubic meters of gas a year via Ukraine, which earns Kyiv about $7 billion.

    “I believe, by the winter of 2024, Europe will not need Russian gas at all,” Galushchenko said in a telephone interview. “If now profits from Russian gas pay for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and Gazprom’s private army, the only thing they should pay for in the future shall be reparations.”

    He added that the war means “bilateral negotiations are impossible.”

    The land route across Ukraine is one of only two pipeline links between Russia and the West. It still accounts for around 5 percent of the bloc’s gas imports, but that’s only a third of the prewar level…

Hungary gets around 4.5 billion cubic meters a year. In April, its government signed a deal with Gazprom to secure additional volumes.

    Kyiv ending the gas deal could cause problems for those countries.

    “For Europe as a whole, it’s pretty manageable. But for some countries at the end of the pipeline, Austria, Hungary and so on, the picture is a bit different,” said Georg Zachmann, senior fellow at economic think tank Bruegel. “We’d have to see a reshuffle of physical capacities, physical flows. That might come with additional cost for them.”

    It would represent a much more permanent potential break with Moscow.

    “Keeping the thing alive means there’s maybe a chance in the future to go back to that. But if the flows are stopped there’s a risk it’s going to be completely dismantled, and the privilege these countries had in the past of getting access to cheap Siberian gas is going to be gone forever,” Zachmann said.

    Let’s start with a silly fear but one that does signal the Democratic Party’s growing sense of panic about the 2024 Presidential election. It was expressed to me by someone with excellent party credentials: that Trump could be the Republican nominee and will select Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his running mate. The strange duo will then sweep to a huge victory over a stumbling Joe Biden, and also take down many of the party’s House and Senate candidates.

    As for real signs of acute Democratic anxiety: Joe Biden got what he needed before the NATO summit this week by somehow turning Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inside out and getting him to rebuff Vladimir Putin by announcing that he would support NATO membership for Sweden. The public story for Biden’s face-saving coup was talk about agreeing to sell American F-16 fighter bombers to Turkey.

    Ukraine has been forced to change its counteroffensive strategy after repeatedly coming up against dense Russian minefields, a report says.
    Ukrainian units are leaving behind the battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles donated by Western allies and advancing slowly on foot, The Washington Post reported.

    “You can no longer do anything with just a tank with some armor because the minefield is too deep, and sooner or later, it will stop, and then it will be destroyed by concentrated fire,” Ukraine’s commander-in-chief General Valery Zaluzhny told The Post.

    The minefields have exposed the limitations of Western-provided armor, which Ukraine had long been requesting to help in its fight to take back territory occupied by Russia.

All necessary documents have already been issued by the Ministry of Defense of Belarus. Weapons and ammunition were previously transferred to the Ministry of Defense of Russia according to the inventory. Poles say that several hundred people of the PMC Wagner have already been deployed on the territory of Belarus. They expect up to 8k people there.

      • Belarus’ western border with Poland is, essentially, Poland. That poses a danger to the govt and people of Belarus who are more Russian than Russians. Putin has kept them afloat since Day 1.

        Poles and the warring Ukrainian faction hate them with a purple passion.

        Lukashenko (aka “Luka”) is an old Soviet fossil, a truly terrible Stalin relic. Russians make fun of him, but stability is critical right now. Neighbors in the west are slavering, ready to devour the miserable, hapless Belarusians.

    During the night attack of the UAV on Sevastopol, 7 Ukrainian drones were shot down by air defense forces of the Black Sea Fleet or suppressed by means of EW. Two marine drones were also destroyed. There are no casualties or damage. According to the governor, the attack is repulsed, the situation in the city is calm.

    The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the attack on Sevastopol:
    “This morning, an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack by seven UAVs and two semi-submerged boats on targets on the territory of the Crimean peninsula near the city of Sevastopol was stopped.

    “Two Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed by air defense systems over the Black Sea at a great distance from the coastline. Five more UAVs were suppressed by electronic warfare and crashed without reaching their targets.

    “In the northern part of the Black Sea, two unmanned marine vehicles of the AFU were found and destroyed by fire from the standard weapons of maritime security. As a result of the suppressed terrorist attack, there were no casualties and no damage.”

    So, what did the Ukrainians do to raise the ire of the Pentagon so suddenly, and as a direct consequence, fall into disfavor with NATO?

    In short, the Ukrainians demonstrated that NATO’s weapons are crap. Evidence of this built up slowly over time. First, it turned out that various bits of US-made shoulder-fired junk – anti-aircraft Stingers, anti-tank Javelins, etc – are rather worse than useless in modern combat. Next, it turned out that the M777 howitzer and the HIMARS rocket complex are rather fragile and aren’t field-maintainable.

    The next wonder-weapon thrown at the Ukrainian problem was the Patriot missile battery. It was deployed near Kiev and the Russians quickly made a joke of it. They attacked it with their super-cheap Geranium 5 “flying moped” drones, causing it to turn on its active radar, thereby unmasking its position, and then fire off its entire load of rockets – a million dollars’ worth! – after which point it just sat there, unmasked and defenseless, and was taken out by a single Russian precision rocket strike.

    This was sure to have seriously pissed off US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, whose major personal cash cow happens to be Raytheon, the maker of the Patriot. Yes, the Patriot proved useless using the First Gulf War, … failed to protect Israel against ancient Iraqi Scud missiles… failed to protect Saudi oil installation against ancient Yemeni Scud missiles… but you aren’t supposed to advertise that fact…

    Why is the failure of relentlessly propagandized Western weaponry more important than just about anything else…?

    The reason is simple: NATO is not a defensive organization (remember, USSR has been gone for over 30 years); nor is it an offensive organization…

    Rather, NATO is a captive buyers’ club for US-made weapons…
