  1. Israel Complains to UN after Hizbullah Drills Takeover of Israeli Communities

Hizbullah staged an unprecedented show of force in mid-May in southern Lebanon, with a military drill simulating special forces penetrating Israel and taking over Israeli communities. Yet a senior Israeli military source told Al-Monitor, “There really was nothing new here. We know what Hizbullah has and we don’t need showcase maneuvers to learn about it. In our opinion, this extravagant exercise was a mistake and caused damage to Hizbullah in quite a few areas.”

The exercise provoked domestic Lebanese anger against Hizbullah, and also drew considerable criticism in the Sunni Arab world, which sees Hizbullah as a collaborator of Iran. Moreover, Hizbullah’s drill underscored Israel’s claims that Hizbullah was constantly violating UN Security Council Resolution 1701 which ended the 2006 Israel-Lebanon war and banned maneuvers along the border. In fact, Israel submitted a formal complaint against Lebanon on Thursday to the UN Security Council, over what Israel called “Hizbullah’s provocations.”

  2. U.S. official: ‘Brilliant’ Trump admininstation decision to transfer Israel to CENTCOM

In its waning weeks, the Trump administration transferred Israel from the U.S. military’s European Command to its Central Command, which is responsible for the Middle East. That decision responded to the Abraham Accords and Israel’s new, open relationships with several Arab states.

It was a “brilliant decision,” Dana Stroul, U.S. deputy assistant secretary of defense for the Middle East, told JNS in a recent interview.

“This is really a strategic game changer for how the United States can partner with Israel and our Arab partners in the region to advance security and stability…

“We see Israel and the IDF as the most combat credible and capable military partner for CENTCOM…. We are constantly sharing exchanges on Iran nuclear advances, and discussing how both sides will most effectively work together to address them.

Washington has insisted that a recently-rekindled diplomatic relationship between Riyadh and Tehran will not hurt normalization efforts between Israel and Saudi Arabia. But it hasn’t made dealing with the Iranian issue any easier.

Pentagon officials reportedly offered Israel in recent weeks an opportunity to work on joint military planning in dealing with Iran, but the parameters of such an agreement were reportedly too opaque for Israel to agree to.

As Washington and Jerusalem deal with Iran, the Arab world is largely reestablishing relations with the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. The White House has said that Arab partners can make their own decisions about paths back to Damascus but that the United States will neither normalize relations with nor lift sanctions on Syria.

  3. The Anti-Western Nuclear Club: North Korea, China, Russia and Iran Dangerously Target the West

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered this January that his country carry out “exponential” expansion of its nuclear arsenal and the manufacturing of a more powerful ICBM.

“Today, China, Russia, North Korea and Iran continue to invest in technologies to expand their capabilities to hit the United States with nuclear weapons. All four countries have also escalated their threatening rhetoric, indicating their willingness to use nuclear weapons in a military conflict. By expanding their nuclear programs, each has made clear that our nuclear arsenal is no longer a deterrent to their potential use of nuclear weapons..”

Iran pushes for naval alliance in Indian ocean, claims Gulf countries may participate

Iran is hoping to bring Saudi Arabia and other countries into a naval alliance in the Indian Ocean, in what appears to be an Iranian attempt to encourage US partners to also work with Iran.

Iran has previously worked with China and Russia but its new initiative may try to capitalize on reports of the UAE leaving the US-led Combined Maritime Forces.

Iranian pro-regime media said that “a number of regional countries, including Iran and Saudi Arabia, are going to form a new naval coalition in the northern parts of the Indian Ocean, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said.”

The Iranian idea is to work with navies that operate in the “littoral” maritime areas of the coasts of the Indian Ocean. Iran wants collective cooperation and has pitched this before to India and Oman, whose sultan recently visited Iran.

In addition, a report said US officials recently met in Oman to discuss Iran and that the US may be keen on trying to come to a kind of diplomatic compromise with Iran.

  5. The Egypt border attack: Key questions

There are several critical questions that the joint Israeli-Egyptian investigation into the deadly terrorist attack on the two countries’ shared border on Saturday must address.

During the incident, which lasted several hours, three Israel Defense Forces soldiers were killed by an Egyptian police officer. The first two were killed at around 6:00 a.m., according to the IDF, and the third some two hours later, during a shootout that broke out after back-up forces arrived to search for the gunman.

Israeli forces led by the regional brigade commander killed the gunman soon afterwards.

The first key question is whether the terrorist, who was armed with an AK-47, acted on his own, or as a member of a larger terrorist group that has infiltrated Egypt’s security forces.

Egypt’s initial claim, that the terrorist had entered Israeli territory in pursuit of drug smugglers, is unconvincing, and reflects pressure within Egypt to smooth over the incident with a convenient narrative rather than attempt to ascertain the facts.

It is fair to assume that Israel has made it clear, behind closed doors, that this explanation is illogical and unacceptable in light of the assailant’s conduct; he remained in Israeli territory for two hours after the initial shooting, before he again fired on Israeli forces.

The second question must address the role that a significant drug smuggling run, which occurred at 2:30 a.m. that same night, and in the same area, may have played in the attack.

Both incidents occurred in the desolate Mount Harif border region, and the attempt to smuggle some 1.5 million shekels’ worth ($400,000) of narcotics into Israel, at the same time as the attack is unlikely to have been a coincidence.

Was the smuggling run, which the IDF thwarted, an attempt to distract the military?

A third question that needs to be given consideration is whether the attack was the result of a jihadist-Islamist group seeking to undermine the ongoing security cooperation at the border between the Israeli and Egyptian militaries.

Both Islamic State and the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood are vehemently ideologically opposed to strategic ties between the two countries, and both are also committed to the overthrow of the el-Sisi government in Cairo.

Egyptian border terrorist was carrying Koran, likely motivated by extremism

The terrorist who killed three IDF officers at the Egyptian border on Saturday was likely motivated by religious extremism, according to new information from Army Radio on Sunday morning.

In addition to a Koran and a firearm, he was found to be carrying a knife that he used to cut the zip ties at the border barrier, and six magazines of ammunition.

Israel searches for answers after 3 IDF soldiers killed in Egypt border

Israel’s Defense Minister and IDF chief say Israel is “probing the incident in a thorough, in-depth manner, together with the Egyptian military, and will draw necessary lessons.”

    • Israel cheapens the term “terrorist,” which rightly refers to attacks on out-of-uniform civillians.

      • Agree.
It’s like Russia calling Ukraine “terrorist” for attacks on Belgorod Oblast. Yes civilian, but also a staging ground for RF soldiers.

  6. Seth Frantzman:
    How Saudi Arabia reinvented itself
    […]
There are key questions about where this new Saudi Arabia may be going. On the one hand the foreign policy choices of Riyadh are independent of the West. The outreach to Syria has resulted in many other countries also doing outreach, including key Saudi partners such as Jordan. In addition it remains to be seen whether Saudi Arabia can use the outreach to achieve its interests in Jordan, Iraq or other countries.

Riyadh has historically opposed Iranian-backed groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon or Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq. In addition it’s unclear what will happen in Yemen and whether Riyadh will really normalise ties with Israel.

US concerns about Saudi Arabia’s ties to Russia and China will continue to bedevil ties. This has been a constant concern for Washington in terms of its many traditional partners and allies. For instance the US has been concerned about China’s investment in a port in Israel, and also the way countries like Turkey, a member of Nato, have done outreach to Russia, including buying arms from Moscow.

The West’s ties with Saudi Arabia matter on many issues, from trade to the wider Islamic world. As the West pivots to a more confrontational policy with Russia, in the wake of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, countries that appear to be open to Russia or China will be in the spotlight.

The question regarding Riyadh’s policies therefore will revolve around whether this leads to positive outcomes or increased tensions with the West. So far it appears that the outcomes have been positive. The ceasefire in Sudan was important and Saudi Arabia has also helped broker prisoner exchanges in Ukraine…

  7. 3 in 10 Young Americans and Mostly Democrats Support Government Cameras Installed in American Households, Survey Says
    By Jim Hoft Jun. 6, 2023 7:45 am124 Comments

In a society increasingly shaped by technology and security concerns, a concerning trend is emerging among younger generations in the United States.

While most Americans across all demographic groups oppose government surveillance in their homes, there is a higher acceptance of such measures among younger individuals willing to trade freedom and privacy for enhanced security and protection.

In a newly released national survey conducted by the CATO Institute, it has been revealed that almost a third of young Americans (Gen Z) favor the installation of government surveillance cameras in every household.

The survey included 2,000 participants and examined public attitudes toward the government’s potential role in reducing “domestic violence, abuse, and illegal activities.”

The results of the survey indicated that only 14 percent of Americans in total supported the idea of government surveillance cameras in homes. The majority, 75 percent, opposed the notion, with 68 percent expressing strong opposition. A small fraction of respondents, 10 percent, remained undecided on the matter.

The study results revealed those under 30 were most likely to approve government-installed monitoring cameras in private homes.

“However, Americans under the age of 30 stand out when it comes to George Orwell’s 1984?style in-home government surveillance cameras. 3 in 10 (29 percent) Americans under 30 favor “the government installing surveillance cameras in every household” in order to “reduce domestic violence, abuse, and other illegal activity.” Support declines with age, dropping to 20 percent among 30–44-year-olds and dropping considerably to 6 percent among those over the age of 45,” according to the study.

The survey findings indicate that support for government surveillance in homes varied among different demographic groups. African Americans (33 percent) and Hispanic Americans (25 percent) displayed higher levels of support compared to White Americans (9 percent) and Asian Americans (11 percent).

In terms of political affiliation, Democrats (17 percent) were slightly more likely than Republicans (11 percent) to favor in-home surveillance. Democrats who identified as “very liberal” exhibited the lowest support at 9 percent, while “liberal” Democrats were more than twice as likely to favor the idea at 19 percent. Interestingly, there was no significant divide between men (15 percent) and women (13 percent) on this issue.

(Richard: The younger generation haven’t read Orwell and aren’t worried about privacy. Plus the two demographic groups with the most support are protected classes who think they can commit any and all types of crimes without receiving ang punishment.)

  8. Ukraine Military Accuses Russian Forces of Blowing Up Nova Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station Dam – Russia Responds, Blames Shelling by

The Ukrainian military accused Russian forces of intentionally blowing up the dam at the Nova Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on Tuesday.

According to Reuters, the Nova Kakhovka dam is located in the Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine’s Kherson region.

“The Kakhovka [reservoir] was blown up by the Russian occupying forces,” Ukraine’s Southern Operational Command announced on its Facebook page.

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2023/06/ukraine-military-accuses-russian-forces-deliberately-blowing-up/

    • Don’t Forget WaPo’s Report From December About Kiev’s Plans To Blow Up The Kakhovka Dam

Major General Andrey Kovalchuk admitted to the Washington Post last December that his side had previously planned to blow up part of the Kakhovka Dam as part of its Kherson Counteroffensive. It therefore seemed unthinkable that Kiev would ultimately do just that over half a year later and then gaslight that Moscow was to blame when the Mainstream Media itself earlier reported the existence of Ukraine’s terrorist plans after quoting the same official who bragged about them.

The partial destruction of the Kakhovka Dam on early Tuesday morning saw Kiev and Moscow exchange accusations about who’s to blame, but a report from the Washington Post (WaPo) in late December extends credence to the Kremlin’s version of events.

Titled “Inside the Ukrainian counteroffensive that shocked Putin and reshaped the war”, its journalists quoted former commander of November’s Kherson Counteroffensive Major General Andrey Kovalchuk who shockingly admitted to planning this war crime:

“Kovalchuk considered flooding the river. The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper’s water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages. The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort. He held off.”

His remark about how “the step remained a last resort” is pertinent to recall at present considering that the first phase of Kiev’s NATO-backed counteroffensive completely failed on Monday according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Just like Ukraine launched its proxy invasion of Russia in late May to distract from its loss in the Battle of Artyomovsk, so too might does it seem to have gone through with Kovalchuk’s planned war crime to distract from this most recent embarrassment as well.

      RE: ZNPP Nuclear Power Station

It is reported that the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station has completely gone under water.
      https://t.me/intelslava/48478

Readers are worried about how the damage to the Kakhovskaya HPP dam will affect the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which takes water from the reservoir backed up by the dam.
In short, it will not have any effect, everything is fine.

Now for more details. During operation, the nuclear reactor requires a large volume of water for cooling. There are six reactors at ZNPP (1 on the diagram), and for their cooling the cooling pond filled from the Kakhovka reservoir (2) and two cooling towers (3) are normally used.

At the Kakhovka dam only the crest and gates are damaged, the water level in the reservoir because of this could fall by two or three meters, which is within the seasonal fluctuations. That is, even normal operation of the plant at full capacity would not be disrupted now.

The station, however, has been shut down and put into cold shutdown since last September. Water is still needed to cool the remaining fuel in the reactors and holding ponds, but orders of magnitude less than for the reactors at capacity. There will be enough water from the Dnieper even in case of complete destruction of the dam and release of the reservoir, which, as you may recall, has not happened yet.

Soviet engineers designed the plant, they provided for anything, even a war.

      (DeepL translation)

    • Our source in the OP said that the Office of the President [Zelensky] instructed all of its LOM and TG channels to disperse the narrative about the Russians deliberately blowing up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

At Bankovaya [like ’10 Downing St., UK], they want to achieve two goals: firstly, to shift the responsibility for the shelling of the hydroelectric power station, which violated the structure, from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and secondly, to form the image of a terrorist out of Russia.

Old videos of HIMARS strikes are deliberately thrown into the network to show the deliberate undermining of the dam.
      https://t.me/rezident_ua/18140

The dam was simply washed away by water, due to the destroyed spans, which any person with education understands, the resistance of materials has done its job. Moreover, the fact that the hydroelectric dam stood for so long after the HIMARS missile strikes confirms the qualitative approach of Soviet architects.

Now in the information war, each side will try to blame each other, but the dam was filmed by cameras 24 by 7 and the explosion would have been filmed instantly, which means it did not exist.
      https://t.me/ZeRada1/14082

Colleagues, you are right about the visual control of the dam from two sides, which means that now the campaign will begin from two sides.
Unfortunately, our country has become a platform in the geopolitical game of two blocs for reformatting the international system.

The longer the war goes on, the more destruction and casualties there will be.

•> The bombing that weakened the structure was NOT done by Russians.
It was a series of strikes by HIMARS, made in the USA. That’s what prompted Russia’s retreat from the left bank of Kherson a year ago. The risk of floods if the AFU opened the gates – as they were threatening to do – was too serious.

•> Ukraine had control of the upstream dams, NOT Russia!
Ukraine has been releasing waters to the max since May, putting immense pressure on Nova Kakhovka. The threat is to the lowland on the right side of the river – the territory held by Russia. As well as the canal that provides fresh water to Crimea.

•> RF has spent the last nine months fortifying that area south of the river. Digging in too well to be easily dislodged. So now there’s no need for Prez Z to make a show of an attempt. No counteroffensive is possible. The line of contact is shortened, his depleted army can move to another front.

    • Interesting development, both sides gain and lose.

The lose of electricity hurts both sides.

Neither side can launch any type of offensive down river of the breach.

What is the ethnicity of the majority of the people down stream?

A breach of this type would be easier for the Russians but with luck could be done with artillery and drone strikes.

Breach’s would be easier to make if the explosive were on the upriver side underwater so the weight of the water could act as tamping to help direct the force of the explosion.

Who was dominating the battle downstream?

This breach frees up assets from downstream for redeployment to other areas. This lets both sides reinforce upstream units. Which side benefits the most?

    • Comment from an American nuclear engineer:

Since the reactors have been off for a year, I think everything should be fine.

Spent fuel still needs to be cooled, but it requires signficantly less cooling. After 10 days U235 is already making less than 1% of the heat it was making during fission and it keeps decaying exponentially.

The water reservoirs should provide sufficent cooling for a very long time. It’s hard to give any real numbers without knowing how much spent fuel is being stored at that site, nor all the design details of their cooling system.

I am not super concerned though. At some point spent fuel cools down enough to move to dry cask storage which does not require cooling so not all the spent fuel there still needs cooling.

If the reactors where still active this would be a much, much more dicy situation.

  11. South African Couple Tortured to Death, Set on Fire While Still Alive
    By Richard Abelson Jun. 6, 2023 9:30 am401 Comments

Pray for Hennie and Anneke Claassen

Last week, Gateway Pundit reported that farm murders in South Africa were declining even as murder rates in the Rainbow Nation exploded to three per hour. Tragically, there have been seven farm murders since last week, including two elderly couples brutally killed on the weekend.

Hennie and Anneke Claassen were brutally tortured and murdered on a farm outside Ohrigstad, while Pierre and Belinda de Kock were murdered on their farm outside Piketberg.

Hennie and Anneke Claassen (77 and 73) were the owners and managers of Echo Caves tourist attraction in Limpopo province (formerly Northern Transvaal). The incident happened on Saturday, 3 June 2023 around 1:30 pm.

Both Anneke and Hennie were tortured before being tragically set on fire while still alive, The South African reports: “Anneke’s son, Jan-Daniël Claasen, told Netwerk24 it seemed like two or three armed men overpowered her and dragged her to a passage where they set her alight while she was still alive. He said his mom was burned beyond recognition. Hennie was locked in a room in a separate farmhouse before the attacker set the place alight with him inside.“

    No arrests have been made.

Another double murder took place in Piketberg in the Western Cape. The bodies of Pierre and Belinda de Kock were found by a worker on their farm on Sunday 4 June 2023, South Africa Today reports.

On June 1, 26-year-old farm manager Sibulele Potela was shot to death in the Eastern Cape near Cookhouse.

A defenseless 84-year-old woman was attacked and brutally tortured by eight men on a farm in Leeufontein in Bronkhorstspruit during the early hours of Thursday, June 1, according to The South African. Eight unknown men gained entry to the property and woke the elderly woman up with a torchlight in her eyes, according to police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela: “The 84-year-old woman was dragged, and her hands and feet burnt with the blow torch. She was left in a locked bathroom. Her employee was also tied up at the back of the house, and the suspects drove away with the victim’s Ford ranger bakkie (pick-up truck), household possessions, and cash.” The injured woman was taken to a hospital for medical assistance.

The civil rights organisation AfriForum appealed to farmers and rural residents to step up their security and preparedness. According to AfriForum, there have been at least seven farm murders nationwide in the past week:

“AfriForum urges farmers and rural residents to urgently get involved with their local neighbourhood or farm watches. The only way to curb these horrific attacks is for communities to mobilize and step up their preparedness,” said AfriForum spokesperson for Community Safety Jacques Broodryk. “The brutal way in which these crimes are carried out is a clear indication that this is not just ordinary crime. AfriForum will continue to put pressure on the government and demand that farm attacks be declared a priority crime and receive the necessary attention from the authorities”

“As has long been the case, the murders of our people are not adequately reported by the mainstream media. Not only farm murders, but also murders of our people in the cities,” said civil defense organization Suidlanders. “We would like to call all our members to intercession and preparedness. Our security is our own responsibility and the enemy walks around like a roaring lion. Become part of your local area’s safety initiatives and it’s never too late to start the process for a legal firearm.“

Do WE tolerate these people”?

Enough, for God’s sake peoplekind, stand up for the children. Demand Justine Trudeau step down immediately before this small group gets totally out of control.
    Where are the adults?
