This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

    A TikToker’s video of a restaurant playing the national anthem is sparking debate on the popular social media platform.

    Paulina (@paulinappa_0) took the video at Rainbow Oaks Country Market in Fallbrook, California, which shows several diners standing up out of respect for the song. She found the situation to be “dangerous” and several other TikTok users also shared similar experiences they had at other restaurants, which they too found to be unnerving.

    The clip starts off with Paulina recording her pancakes and then the interior of a restaurant. She stays seated in front of her meal as other patrons stand up and salute the flag as “The Star-Spangled Banner” plays on the establishment’s loudspeaker. Her camera pans to TV sets hanging on the walls that display animated graphics of American flags waving in the wind.

    A caption for the post reads: “By far the most dangerous situation I’ve ever been in,” followed by the “#getout #illegal #whitepeoplethings” hashtags.

        Critics – armchair generals – abound on popular media. These are ordinary people, patriots with some knowledge of war. They get thumbs-up or down. Very few comments are deleted. The 10% who sound like Stalin get smashed by other readers.

        When comment threads and bonafide, quality bloggers get mad for legitimate reasons, there’s investigation, and action is taken. Doesn’t matter how high up, though it’s usually framed as a lateral move so the individual doesn’t lose face.

        Putin and his Stavka know the military has lingering Soviet rigidity and corruption. They’re trying to fix problems without turning everything upside-down. It’s a slow process, should’ve started ten years ago, but it is what it is.

  18. Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot sent a letter to Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Sunday asking that he stop busing migrants from the southern border to her city.

    Lightfoot said the city is out of space for migrants and emphasized the lack of coordination with the state of Texas, according to a copy of the letter her office shared on Twitter Sunday. Title 42, a public health expulsion order invoked by the Trump administration during the COVID-19 pandemic, is set to end May 11 and the Biden administration, along with some southern border towns, anticipate a massive surge in migrants.

Former U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) acting commissioner Mark Morgan and retired Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge of the El Paso Station Clay Thomas believe that the Biden administration’s new policies to address a surge of migration when Title 42 ends still allows for many migrants who cross the southern border to be released and face little consequences, they told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
    Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the new measures Thursday to address what will happen post-May 11, when Title 42 ends.
    “What they’re doing is not going to prevent anything. It’s simply going to be more of the same to react to what’s happening. And part of the reaction to what’s happening is going to be to continue to process and release illegal aliens,” Morgan told the DCNF.

    Moderna teams up with IBM to put A.I., quantum computing to work on mRNA technology used in vaccines

    -Moderna and IBM are teaming up to use generative artificial intelligence and quantum computing to advance mRNA technology, the development at the core of the company’s Covid vaccine.

    -The companies said they signed an agreement that would allow Moderna to access IBM’s quantum computing systems and generative AI model.

    -The agreement comes as Moderna navigates its post-pandemic boom driven by its mRNA Covid vaccine.

    Moderna and IBM are teaming up to use generative artificial intelligence and quantum computing to advance mRNA technology, the development at the core of the company’s blockbuster Covid vaccine, the companies announced Thursday.

    “We are excited to partner with IBM to develop novel AI models to advance mRNA science, prepare ourselves for the era of quantum computing, and ready our business for these game-changing technologies,” Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel said in a statement.

    Moderna shares dipped slightly Thursday, while IBM’s stock was about flat.

    The companies said they signed an agreement for Moderna to access IBM’s quantum computing systems. Those systems could help accelerate Moderna’s discovery and creation of new messenger RNA vaccines and therapies, according to Dr. Dario Gil, director of IBM research.

    IBM will also provide experts who can help Moderna scientists explore the use of quantum technologies, the companies added. Unlike traditional computers, which store information as either zeroes or ones, quantum computing hinges on quantum physics. That allows those systems to solve problems too complex for today’s computers.

    Under the deal, Moderna’s scientists will also have access to IBM’s generative AI model known as MoLFormer. Generative AI describes algorithms that can be used to create new content based on the data they have been trained on.

    The companies said Moderna will use IBM’s model to understand “the characteristics of potential mRNA medicines” and design a new class of vaccines and therapies.

    The agreement comes as Moderna navigates its post-pandemic boom driven by its mRNA Covid vaccine.

    The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company became a household name for its messenger RNA technology, which teaches human cells to produce a protein that initiates an immune response against a certain disease.

    Moderna is trying to harness that technology to target other diseases as the world emerges from the pandemic and demand for blockbuster Covid vaccines and treatments slows.

    The company is already working to develop a vaccine targeting respiratory syncytial virus and a shot that can target different types of cancer when combined with Merck’s immunotherapy Keytruda.

    The new agreement also comes as IBM ramps up its investment in AI with new partnerships. Earlier this year, the Armonk, New York-based company announced a deal with NASA to help build AI foundation models to advance climate science.

    Those efforts fall in line with a recent boom in AI, largely driven by the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The AI-powered chatbot answers questions in clear, concise prose, and immediately caused a sensation after its launch.

    ChatGPT kicked off an AI arms race and prompted questions about the full extent of artificial intelligence’s capabilities and risks.

  25. A South Korean art student ate a banana that was part of an installation by artist Maurizio Cattelan, saying he was “hungry” after skipping breakfast.

    The artwork called “Comedian”, part of Cattelan’s exhibition “WE”, consisted of a ripe banana duct-taped to a wall at Seoul’s Leeum Musuem of Art.

    After eating the banana, the student, Noh Huyn-soo, taped the peel to the wall.

    The museum later placed a new banana at the same spot, reported local media.

  27. CHIBA — A 25-year-old woman was arrested on April 30 for allegedly threatening on Twitter to disperse sarin nerve gas at a train station near Tokyo.

    Chiba Prefectural Police’s Funabashi Police Station arrested Miyuki Yamamoto, a resident of the prefectural city of Funabashi, on suspicion of fraudulent obstruction of business. She has reportedly admitted to the allegations.

    Yamamoto allegedly posted a tweet at around 11:25 a.m. on April 30, saying, “Today at exactly 1 p.m., I will disperse sarin inside Funabashi Station. I am Shoko Asahara of the Reiwa era,” referring to the founder of doomsday cult AUM Shinrikyo, which attacked Tokyo subways with sarin gas in 1995. Yamamoto stands accused of

  32. Turkish forces have killed the suspected leader of the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced.

    Abu Hussein al-Qurayshi is said to have taken over the group after his predecessor was killed last autumn.

    Mr Erdogan told broadcaster TRT Turk the IS leader was “neutralised” in a Turkish MIT intelligence agency operation on Saturday.

    IS has so far made no comment on the reported operation.

    The BBC has been unable to independently verify President Erdogan’s claim.

    The MIT intelligence agency had been following Qurayshi for a “long time”, Mr Erdogan said.

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Two parishioners at a Latin Mass Catholic church in rural Northern Virginia say they witnessed suspicious activity from what looked like FBI vehicles in February, a month after the FBI’s Richmond office published a now-rescinded internal memo focused on “radical-traditional Catholics.”

    The FBI’s Washington, D.C., office, which monitors the church’s area, denied any knowledge of such activity in a statement to The Daily Signal.

    The Supreme Court announced Monday it will hear a case directly challenging a landmark decision on the powers of federal agencies, providing the Court an opportunity to drastically limit the authority of the administrative state.

    The challenge stems from family-owned fishing companies’ lawsuit against the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) after it forced them to pay the salaries of legally mandated onboard federal observers — amounting to 20% of company revenues — based on its interpretation of a law governing fishery management. The companies challenge the Supreme Court’s 1984 decision in Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council, a ruling that established the principle that federal courts should defer to agency interpretations of statutes when Congress’ intent is ambiguous.

  39. SPRING, Texas (KPRC) – Students at a Texas high school are accused of forming a mob and beating an assistant principal so badly she was rushed to the hospital. Her colleagues say it’s not the first time something violent like this has happened at the school, and they don’t feel safe.

    Staff members at Westfield High School in Spring, Texas, are coming forward after the assistant principal was allegedly beaten by several students Thursday at the school’s 9th Grade Center. They say this isn’t the first time students have injured staff members, and they fear it won’t be the last.

    “It broke my heart. It makes me want to cry,” said a teacher at the school about the incident. “She loves those kids. She is the nicest person. She’s the best administrator that we have at Westfield High School.”

    The teacher asked not to be identified out of fear of retaliation from Spring Independent School District, but she says she felt compelled to speak out after the assistant principal’s brutal beating, which allegedly happened after she tried to break up a fight.

    “Three or four other kids jump in on her and just pummel her to the ground, and they are kicking her and pulling her hair,” the teacher said.

  46. The owner of Fox News and his son, a top deputy, held two previously undisclosed meetings with Ukraine’s president shortly before firing host Tucker Carlson – who is vehemently critical of the U.S. sending aid to the Ukrainians.

    Semafor broke the news that Fox Corporation owner Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan allegedly met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy and held two separate calls to discuss the ongoing war and the death of a Fox journalist killed in action. While Carlson, who has vocally opposed efforts to transfer billions of dollars in foreign aid to the country, was not mentioned on the calls by Zelenskyy, he has been criticized by some of the president’s top deputies.

    Speculation has mounted that some of the former host’s opinions had gotten him in trouble with the Murdoch family, especially as it relates to Ukraine and other foreign policy matters such as U.S. business relationships with China, which has provided tacit support to Russia during its attempt to seize neighboring Ukraine.

    Leading medical institutions in North Carolina are targeting extremely young children to begin transitioning, according to investigative journalist Sloan Rachmuth.

    In 2015, Duke Medicine launched the Gender Clinic to provide a comprehensive range of treatments for children as young as two for gender dysphoria.

    In 2016, the clinic’s director, transgender activist Dr. Deanna Adkins, spoke with the Charlotte Observer about her transgender pediatric patients.

    They are not old enough to consciously just choose to do that. … It is not a choice in any of my patients. It’s really an unpleasant thing to have going on in your body to feel that distress about yourself. I can’t imagine anyone who would choose to do that,” said Adkins.

  48. NYPD searches for man who allegedly defecated on Pride flag
    The police department’s Hate Crime Task Force is currently investigating the incident.

    The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s help as it searches for a man suspected of defacing two LGBTQ Pride flags.

    The unidentified man entered a location in Manhattan’s tony Upper West Side neighborhood and defecated on one rainbow Pride flag and then “took a second Pride flag and wiped his backside with it,” according to a statement released Saturday by the NYPD.
