Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

A mother of two from Victoria, Australia was denied the chance to undergo a lifesaving heart transplant because she refused to receive the COVID-19 shot, despite having a medical exemption.

On Sunday, Vicki Derderian and her husband John, appeared on Karl Stefanovic’s Today Show on Channel Nine to address how the government and doctors had denied her access to life-saving treatment

After suffering heart failure in 2020, Vicki Derderian was forced to rely on a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) in order to keep blood circulating throughout her body.

“Back in 2020, I had a very severe heart failure, which at the time my organs started shutting down. So I wasn’t ready for a transplant back then. So the only choice for me at that time was to go on a ventricular assist device, which is a mechanical pump that pumps blood throughout the body because my heart couldn’t,” Derderian told Channel 9’s Today Show

  7. Arizona Republican Kari Lake Takes a Seat as NFL Plays Divisive Black National Anthem Before Super Bowl LVII – With Woke Activist Singer

America-First superstar Kari Lake is going viral again, outraging the radical left and fake news media for taking a seat during the Woke NFL’s “Black National Anthem” performance at Superbowl LVII.

Lake later told Fox News, “James Weldon Johnson’s ‘Lift Your Voice’ is a beautiful song, but it is not our National Anthem.”

As The Gateway Pundit reported, influencer, “Victoriously Aware” actress, and author Sheryl Lee Ralph sang the Black National Anthem at the big game Sunday.

    The Western Journal reported,

In 2020, the so-called black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” was first introduced as a newfound staple to be sung before every NFL game.

The song, a Christian hymn honoring the birthday of Republican President Abraham Lincoln, certainly has noble origins. But the reason for its inclusion before pro football games was anything but noble.

According to Time, the NFL introduced the song as a “black” national anthem in “an effort to reinforce the league’s professed newfound alignment with Black Lives Matter.”

The “black national anthem” was added as a concession to those who felt the “racist” origins of “The Star-Spangled Banner” didn’t represent them.

Benny Johnson tweeted the photo of Kari Lake sitting during the divisive “Black National Anthem.” Kari responded, “I’m just here for THE National Anthem??.”

  8. Meet Samuel Armes – Groomed by the CIA and FBI and Author of the Original “1776 Returns” FED-SURRECTION Document – That He Reportedly Told a Friend to Send to the Proud Boys to Set Them Up

Back in July 2022, Liz Cheney and the January 6 Committee called in Samuel Armes to testify. Armes is a young college grad who just started his professional career in Florida.

The J6 Committee called in Armes after a previous witness, Erika Flores, told the shameful anti-Trump committee that Armes told her to pass on his “1776 Returns” document to Enrique Tarrio, Flores’s love interest who Armes had met at least two times.

Flores already told the committee that Armes, who was being groomed by the FBI and CIA while in school, told her to pass the insurrection document on to Enrique Tarrio.

There is NO EVIDENCE that Tarrio ever looked at the document. There is NO EVIDENCE that the Proud Boys studied the document.

The only remaining Republican on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced her resignation on Tuesday.

a blistering Wall Street Journal op-ed, Christine Wilson accused FTC Lina Kahn of abusing power and “undermining the commission structure that Congress wrote into law

Much ink has been spilled about Lina Khan’s attempts to remake federal antitrust law as chairman of the Federal Trade Commission,” Wilson wrote. “I have failed repeatedly to persuade Ms. Khan and her enablers to do the right thing, and I refuse to give their endeavor any further hint of legitimacy by remaining.”

Since Ms. Khan’s confirmation in 2021, my staff and I have spent countless hours seeking to uncover her abuses of government power. That task has become increasingly difficult as she has consolidated power within the Office of the Chairman, breaking decades of bipartisan precedent and undermining the commission structure that Congress wrote into law. I have sought to provide transparency and facilitate accountability through speeches and statements, but I face constraints on the information I can disclose—many legitimate, but some manufactured by Ms. Khan and the Democratic majority to avoid embarrassment. -Christine Wilson via the WSJ

Wilson took specific umbrage at Kahn’s role in the FTCs recently failed attempt to prevent Meta from buying a California augmented reality company, ‘Within,’ claiming that Kahn’s refusal to recuse herself from all cases involving Meta was the reason it failed.

As the Epoch Times’ Bill Pan notes,

Since President Joe Biden named Khan to the FTC in June 2021, Amazon and Meta have argued that she is too biased against them to properly handle their cases, citing Khan’s prior public statements

    By Kimberly Ells
Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, the pioneers of modern socialism, insisted that every adult member of society be “liberated” from parental work and instead fill “socially productive” roles. Mao Zedong of China embraced this doctrine and declared that “in order to build a great socialist society it is of the utmost importance to arouse the broad masses of women to join in productive activity” which would foster “genuine equality between the sexes.”

Notice that here in just a few words, the work of bearing and raising human beings is labeled “unproductive activity” that women must be emancipated from so they can equally contribute to mankind’s economic security. Marx and Engels also promised that equalizing workplace participation would launch large amounts of money into the economy, facilitate equality, and make entire societies prosperous.

The Biden administration has added its voice to the chorus calling for every able-bodied female to join the work of contributing to the GDP. Recently, the Biden administration launched an initiative called the U.S. Strategy on Global Women’s Economic Security. At the launch meeting, Jennifer Klein, director of the?White?House Gender Policy?Council said we must all work to “achieve our shared vision for women’s full and equitable participation in the global economy.” She also said, “Studies show that closing gender gaps in the workforce could add between $12 and $28 trillion in global GDP over a decade.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated these sentiments: “The strategy that we’re putting forward has at its heart a simple vision: creating a world in which all women and girls

Three of the 10 counties chosen as beneficiaries of a program from the nonprofit that helped fund the private takeover of government election offices in 2020 are refusing to accept those dollars leading up to the 2024 cycle

Election officials from Brunswick and Forsyth Counties in North Carolina and Ottawa County in Michigan have chosen not to accept funds from the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence, a program that plans to funnel $80 million in election grants to jurisdictions across the country over the next five years. The alliance is a project of the Center for Tech and Civic Life, one of two groups that funneled over $328 million of private money from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, known as “Zuckbucks,” to government election offices mostly in the blue counties of swing states, mobilizing Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts and swinging the race in Joe Biden’s favor.

Many of the jurisdictions chosen as recipients for the 2024 cycle lean heavily Democrat and are located in swing states, indicating CTCL is hoping to replicate its successful scheme in the next presidential election in purple states Democrats need to win, such as Michigan, Nevada, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. While CTCL might once again try to hide its efforts by claiming the alliance is also giving money to red counties, expect more than double or triple the funds to be spent on Democratic-leaning counties compared to Republican ones, just like in 2020.

Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck told RealClearInvestigations he will refuse the grant money offered to his county because of transparency concerns. When Roebuck asked the alliance about its criteria for the amount of money given to each county, those running the program refused to give a clear answer.

Will Vigilante Justice Replace Corrupted Criminal Justice?
    By John Green

The Constitution is our pact of civilized behavior. From it we’ve derived a system of institutionalized justice, which we call our criminal justice system. It’s intended to include checks and balances to protect defendants from biases and ensure fair adjudication of their charges. Those safeguards include the following:

    a presumption of innocence
    a right to due process
    a right to legal defense
a right to a trial by one’s peers
a right to trial before an impartial judge
Given our presumption of innocence, absolute justice can’t be guaranteed because conviction depends on the presence of evidence. Instead, we have agreed to accept equal treatment under the law. We agree to abide by the law in exchange for a system that treats us equally and is administered by officials who swear an oath to defend our constitutional protections.

Then Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, and Merrick Garland came along as the country’s top law enforcement officials and flushed it all. Under them, the application of justice has become decidedly unequal. Perfection was never possible, but now the claim of equal treatment has become laughable. The foundation of our legal system is being eaten away by government termites — whose lust for power far exceeds their wisdom to wield it.

The presumption of innocence seems like a quaint idea from the past. Was New York attorney general Letitia James presuming innocence when she made a campaign promise to initiate a criminal investigation of Donald Trump before she even entered office or saw any evidence of wrongdoing? Or was she promising to operate her office using the Beria methodology? Clearly, she had her target and was promising to find the crime. Yet she faces no accountability for this flagrant violation of her oath.

Was due process followed when the FBI destroyed evidence of Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified documents — at Clinton’s request? Did the FBI have a legal predicate when it launched an investigation of an incoming president — based on fabricated evidence provided by his political opponent? How about when they raided the homes of reporters — with armed agents — to recover Ashley Biden’s diary? Had a crime even been committed?

Is our right to competent legal representation being undermined when attorneys face disbarment for taking legal actions challenging election practices? Will this trend prevent conservative defendants from hiring competent lawyers in the future — when those lawyers fear cancellation for representing an unfavored client?

Was a conservative from Montana tried by a jury of his peers — when that jury comprised mostly Democrats from Washington, D.C.? Was Derek Chauvin — a police officer accused of murdering a black man — tried by an impartial jury when one of his “peers” was a Black Lives Matter–supporter?

Was General Michael Flynn given an impartial judge for his trial? Was Judge Emmet Sullivan being impartial when he refused to let the DoJ drop charges, and instead appointed his own counsel to argue the case before him — making himself both the judge and prosecutor? How was he ensuring that General Flynn would receive fair or equal treatment with such an arrangement?

When the core principles of our criminal justice system are no longer honored, the citizens of a self-governed country will judge the pact of civilized behavior to be breached. When they no longer believe that they’ll be treated according to those principles, they’ll decide that the pact no longer applies to them, either.

What comes next? Will citizens embrace a system in which guilt or innocence is a function of their beliefs instead of their actions? Or will Americans avoid the system entirely? How much interaction will Americans seek with a system they no longer trust? Will they report crimes to a justice system that could attack them at any time — regardless of whether they have broken any laws? Will they voluntarily provide testimony or evidence? Or will they avoid all contact with law enforcement officials?

Our criminal justice system cannot function without the support of the governed — and it is already failing. We’re seeing an alarming rise in crime across the country. Are we destined to a future of “survival of the fittest,” where ruthless criminals consolidate power to prey on the weak — like some semi-civilized banana republic? Not necessarily.

We are not a country of sheep. We are descendants of fiercely independent and self-reliant pioneers. Many Americans still retain those attributes. We may not be destined for a communist police state or a “kill or be killed” anarchy. Our old west may be a better predictor of where justice in America is headed.

As hundreds of thousands of Americans migrated into the western wilderness, they found themselves outside the protections of civilization. Our ancestors went to a land with no criminal justice system. Conversely, we inherited a land with a criminal justice system that is being destroyed before our eyes. Our situations are becoming similar — for very different reasons.

In the old west, criminals had easy prey — and they capitalized on it. Rape, robbery, and murder were common. But that chaos was unacceptable to the settlers who only wanted free and productive lives for their families. The farmers, ranchers, and miners formed law enforcement committees — many of which were little more than vigilante mobs. Some even called themselves vigilantes — which is Spanish for “watchmen guards.” It was not considered a pejorative at that time.

But the committees operated without the infrastructure of institutional criminal justice. There were no safeguards and few resources for incarceration or rehabilitation. The committees functioned as the police, prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner — all in one untrained body with no uniform standards. The “justice” administered was rapid and harsh. A defendant could go from apprehension to execution in a matter of minutes. Lynchings were common — as were mistakes.

After the formation of vigilante committees, criminals faced substantial risks, and some semblance of order was achieved — with the downside that many innocents were falsely punished. The settlers defaulted to brutal and error prone “justice” because no alternative was present.

I’m not advocating vigilante justice. I’m predicting that it’s a natural consequence of human nature if our current leadership destroys the last vestiges of the “equal justice under the law” that we were promised. When the system no longer protects citizens, they will find ways to protect themselves. Does the rapid increase in gun ownership indicate that citizens are preparing for this eventuality? Americans bought 20 million firearms last year — the second highest year in history. That can’t be taken as an endorsement of our criminal justice system.

Leftists seem determined to corrupt our criminal justice system — changing it into their political enforcement service. Once the system’s credibility is shattered (and 53 precent think it already is), will the victim of a crime report it to the police — or take matters into his own hands? If he chooses to exact vigilante justice, will his neighbors report him, or help him — recognizing that they may need similar “help” in the future?

As Merrick Garland–, Christopher Wray–, and George Soros–sponsored prosecutors continue to dismantle our criminal justice system, they should keep our past in mind. When legal criminal justice fails, vigilante justice may replace it.

    • The people banding together to protect themselves is common through American history. Many people (including me) have been predicting the formation of local militias who will at times act as vigilantes. The formation of militias and vigilantes occurs when the government fails or refuses to protect the population from external and internal threats. In the past there were several times when the militias/vigilantes formed because the local government was ignoring the Constitutional and the Natural rights of the people.

I don’t know of any previous case of the Federal Government leading the attack on our Constitutional/Natural rights. The last time something like this happened the Americans rebelled against the English Governments attempts to deprive them of their rights. These attempts lead to the Boston Tea Party (1773), and the Battle of Lexington and Concord (1775). The latter was started when the Concord militia stood tall and proud against the finest musket men in the world . The resulting skirmish lead to the surrounding population to grab their muskets and snipe at the British Regulators until they were forced to return to Boston. This leaderless rag tag group of settlers had defeated the British Regulars and then proceeded to lay siege to Boston. 8 years later a combination of Patriot and French forces accepted the surrender of the last English Force in the Colonies.

The descendents of these fighters (both physical and spiritual) continued to stand against tyranny throughout history. This has been the cases up to the present, Americans stand against the people who would deprive them of their rights. A close look at what is currently happening shows that We The People are trying to work within the legal system to restore our rights. We are trying the legal system but the left is showing that they have corrupted the system and the fight using the legal system may be doomed to failure.

If they are the patriots will once again stand tall and proud. As one retired Green Beret said, Our side has 3 trillion rounds of ammo. Their side can’t decide which restroom to use.

  14. the telegraph –Use ‘egg-producing’ not ‘female’, say scientists in call to phase out binary language

Experts say other terms that could be problematic include man, woman, mother and father as well as ‘survival of the fittest’

The words “male” and “female” should be phased out in science because they reinforce ideas that sex is binary, scientists have suggested.

Researchers studying ecology and evolutionary biology should be encouraged to use terms such as “sperm-producing” or “egg producing” or “XY/XX individual” to avoid “emphasising hetero-normative views”, experts say.

Other words and terms deemed problematic include man, woman, mother, father, primitive, advanced, alien, invasive, exotic, non-native and race.

The terms were gathered as part of the EEB (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology) Language Project, founded by a collaboration of scientists in the US and Canada who claim some terminology is not inclusive, and could be harmful.

Even one of the most famous scientific concepts of all time, the “survival of the fittest”, should no longer be used because it discriminates against people with disabilities and is linked to eugenics, they advise.

Speaking about the term “fitness” – widely used in biology to signify the success of a species in its habitat– Haley Branch, a doctoral candidate at the University of British Columbia (UBC) said: “The definition is about reproductive output, which doesn’t take into account individuals that don’t produce offspring.”

However, critics warned that abandoning traditional terms for the sake of inclusivity could leave science lacking precision, as well as causing confusion.

Prof Frank Furedi, an education expert at the University of Kent, said: “I think that when you characterise terms like male/female, mother/father as harmful you are abandoning science for ideological advocacy.

“Regardless of intent, the project of re-engineering language will cause confusion to many and the last thing that scientists need is a lack of clarity about the meaning of the words they use.”

The EEB Language Project, which was launched in this month’s Trends in Ecology and Evolution journal, is compiling a repository of “problematic” words that have been identified by scientists as harmful and suggests alternatives.

For example, they have flagged up the term “citizen science” saying it could be “harmful to non-citizens” who may feel excluded. Instead, they suggest “participant science or community science”.

The term “invasive” or “non-native species” is also deemed to be “xenophobic, anti-immigrant, and militaristic”, and could be replaced with “newly-arrived” or “nuisance species”, they suggest.

Even the phrase “double-blind” – which is often used to describe trials in which neither the participants nor scientists know if they are on a drug or placebo – has been deemed potentially offensive to those with disabilities.

Other words such as “optimisation” can be misleading, the scientists claim, because it perpetuates the idea that a species is evolving towards a defined permanent optimum.

Dr Danielle Ignace of UBC said: “The EEB Language Project will be a living document, as particular words that are harmful and their alternatives can change over time.

“People can submit their suggestions online and have their voices heard. They can also get more involved as an individual, as an institution, or at the community level. The hope is that this grassroots effort brings people together.”

The EEB Language Project said it will “provide resources and support action to reconsider harmful terminology at the levels of individuals, institutions and broader scientific communities”.

Proponents of the changes say that although the use of “harmful” language is not usually intentional they warn “inadvertent harm” can arise as a result of the “inherent complexities and historical legacies of language”.

Changing terminology is something that individual researchers can do to boost inclusivity at an individual level, they said.

Dr Kaitlyn Gaynor, an author on the paper who studies the impact of human activity on biodiversity at the university, said: “The project started as a Twitter conversation among a few people discussing potentially harmful terminology.

“We reached out to different networks in ecology and evolution that were focused on increasing inclusion and equity in the field to rally support for one very specific action – revising terminology that might be harmful to certain people, particularly those from groups historically and currently excluded from science.”

He also said countries like the United States, France, Germany and Norway had signed contracts for munitions that would enable NATO members to replenish their own stocks, but also keep supplying Kiev, which has ceded ground to an escalating Russian offensive.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin also delivered remarks in Brussels, saying things haven’t gone the way the Kremlin expected regarding the war, as Ukraine didn’t immediately give up and has the support of ally nations.

      • Stoltenberg’s response to a question about how this war has changed Nato:

Actually since 2014, NATO has implemented the biggest reinforcements of collective defense in a generation, because the war didn’t start in February last year. It started in 2014. And that triggered a big adaptation of our Alliance with higher readiness of forces, with more presence in eastern part of the Alliance, with more exercises.

So Putin’s “aggression” wasn’t entirely unprovoked?

The White House and the Norwegian government have since denied the claims.

Hersh joins us for an in-depth interview to discuss his report and says the U.S. decision to bomb the pipelines was meant to lock allies into support for Ukraine at a time when some were wavering.

“The fear was Europe would walk away from the war,” he says.

      • Seymour Hersh: The US Destroyed the Nord Stream Pipeline

Last week, renowned investigative reporter Seymour Hersh published an article claiming that the US was responsible for the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline transporting natural gas to Germany from Russia. He spoke to Jacobin about the allegations.

In September 26, 2022, the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline from Russia to Germany was largely destroyed by several explosions in the Baltic Sea. Last week, the award-winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh published an article, based on information from a single anonymous source, arguing that the Biden administration and the CIA were responsible.

Hersh won the Pulitzer Prize in 1970 for the role he played in breaking the story of the M? Lai massacre, an incident in which US soldiers killed between three and five hundred unarmed civilians. He spoke to Fabian Scheidler for Jacobin about the allegations he made in his most recent article and the influence that the CIA and the national security state has on American foreign policy.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERPlease start to lay out your findings in detail. What happened precisely according to your source, who was involved, and what were the motives behind it?

SEYMOUR HERSHWhat I’ve done is simply explain the obvious. It was just a story that was begging to be told. In late September of 2022, eight bombs were supposed to go off; six went off under the water near the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea, in the area where it is rather shallow. They destroyed three of the four major pipelines in the Nord Stream 1 and 2.

Nord Stream 1 has been feeding gas fuel [to Germany] for many years at very low prices. And then both pipelines were blown up, and the question was why, and who did it. On February 7, 2022, in the buildup to the war in Ukraine, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, at a press conference at the White House with German chancellor Olaf Scholz, said that we can stop Nord Stream.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERThe exact wording from Joe Biden was “If Russia invades, there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2, we will bring an end to it.” And when a reporter asked how exactly he intended to do it, given that the project was within the control of Germany, Biden just said, “I promise we will be able to do it.”

SEYMOUR HERSHHis under secretary of state, Victoria Nuland, who was deeply involved in what they call the Maidan Revolution in 2014, used similar language a couple of weeks earlier.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERYou say that the decision to take out the pipeline was taken even earlier by President Biden. You lay out the story from the beginning, chronologically from December 2021, when the national security advisor Jake Sullivan convened, according to your piece, a meeting of the newly formed task force from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CIA, the State and the Treasury departments. You write, “Sullivan intended for the group to come up with a plan for the destruction of the two Nord Stream pipelines.”

SEYMOUR HERSHThis group initially was convened in December to study the problem. They brought in the CIA and so on; they were meeting in a very secret office. Right next door to the White House, there’s an office building that’s called the Executive Office Building. It is connected underground through a tunnel. And at the top of it is a meeting place for a secret group, an outside group of advisors called the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board. I only reported that to let the people in the White House know that I do know something.

The meeting was convened to study the problem: What are we going to do if Russia is going to war? This is three months before the war, before Christmas of 2022. It was a high-level group; it probably had a different name, I just called it the “interagency group” — I don’t know the formal name, if there was one. It was the CIA and the National Security Agency, which monitors and intercepts communications; the State Department and the Treasury Department, which supplies money; and probably a few other groups that were involved. The Joint Chiefs of Staff had representation as well.

The big task they had was to give recommendations about what to do about stopping Russia, measures that are either reversible, like more sanctions and economic pressure, or irreversible, kinetic things — exploding things, for example. I don’t want to talk specifically about any particular meeting because I have to protect my source. I don’t know how many people were at the meeting, do you understand what I mean?

FABIAN SCHEIDLERIn the article, you wrote that, in early 2022, the CIA working group reported back to Sullivan’s interagency group and they said, “We have a way to blow up the pipelines.”

SEYMOUR HERSH They did have a way. There were people there who understood what we call in America “mine warfare.” In the United States Navy, there are groups that go into submarines — there’s also one command about nuclear engineering — and there is a mining command. Underground mining is very important, and we have skilled miners. Probably the most important place for training miners is in this little resort town called Panama City in the middle of nowhere in Florida.

We train very good people there and we use them. Miners are very important. You get clogged entries into ports; they can blow up things in the way. If we don’t like a certain country’s underwater pipelines for oil, we can blow them up too. It’s not always good things they do but they’re very secretive. For the group at the White House, it was clear they could blow up the pipelines. There’s an explosive called C-4, which is incredibly powerful, devastating particularly with the amount they use. You can control and operate it remotely with underwater sonar devices. They send very low-frequency signals.

So it was possible, and they told the White House that, by early January, because two or three weeks later, Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said we can do it. I think this was January 20. And then the president as well, with Olaf Scholz, said on February 7 that we could do it. Scholz said nothing specific; he was vague. But a question that I would ask Scholz, if I had a parliamentary hearing, is this: Did President Biden tell you about this? Did he tell you at that time why he was so confident he could blow it up?

We didn’t have a plan yet, but we knew we had the capability to do it.

FABIAN SCHEIDLER What role did Norway play in the operation?

SEYMOUR HERSHWell, Norway is a great seaman nation, and they have underground energy. They’re also very anxious to increase the amount of natural gas they can sell to Western Europe and Germany. And they have done that, they’ve increased their export. So, for economic reasons, why not join with the United States? They also have a residual dislike of Russia.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERIn your article, you write that the Secret Service and the navy of Norway were involved, and you say that Sweden and Denmark were sort of briefed but not told everything.

SEYMOUR HERSHThe way it was put to me is: if you didn’t tell them, you didn’t need to tell them. In other words, you were doing what you were doing, and they knew what you were doing and they understood what was going on, but maybe nobody ever said yes. I worked on that issue very much with the people I was talking to. The bottom line is, to do this mission, the Norwegians had to find the right place. The divers that were being trained in Panama City could go to three hundred feet underwater without a heavy diving tank, only a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen and helium.

The Norwegians found us a place off Bornholm island in the Baltic that was only 260-feet deep so they could operate. They would have to return slowly. There was a decompression chamber, and we used the Norwegian submarine hunter. Only two divers were used for the four pipelines.

One problem was how to deal with those people who monitor the Baltic Sea. It is very thoroughly monitored, and there’s a great deal of openly available information, so we took care of this; there were three or four different people for that. And what we then did is really simple. Every summer for twenty-one years, our navy Sixth Fleet, which has control of the Mediterranean and also the Baltic Sea, has an exercise for NATO navies in the Baltic (BALTOPS). And we’d bring a navy carrier or large ships around. It was a very open thing. The Russians certainly knew about it. We did publicity. And in this one, for the first time in history, the Baltic Sea NATO operation had a new program. It was going to have an exercise in dropping mines and finding mines for ten or twelve days.

Several nations sent out mining teams, and one group would drop the mine and another mining group from their country would go hunt and blow it up. So you had a period where there are things blowing up, and in that time the Norwegians could recover deep-sea divers. The two pipelines run about a mile apart; they’re under the dirt a little but they’re not hard to get to, and they had practiced this. It didn’t take more than a few hours to plant the bombs.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERSo this was in June 2022?

SEYMOUR HERSHYes, they did it around ten days into June, at the end of the exercise, but at the last minute the White House got nervous. The president said he’s afraid of doing it. He changed his mind and gave them the order that he wanted the right to bomb anytime, to set the bombs off anytime remotely by us. You do it with just a regular sonar, actually a Raytheon build. You fly over and drop a cylinder down. It sends a low-frequency signal — you can describe it as a flute sound tone, you can make different frequencies. But the worry was that one of the bombs, if left in the water too long, would not work, and two did not — they only got three of the four pipelines. So there was a panic inside the group to find the right means, and we actually had to go to other intelligence agencies that I didn’t write about.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERAnd so what happened then? They placed it, they found a way to control it remotely . . .

SEYMOUR HERSHJoe Biden decided not to blow them up. It was in early June, five months into the war, but then, in September, he decided to do it.

I’ll tell you something. The operational people, the people who do kinetic things for the United States, they do what the president says, and they initially thought this was a useful weapon that he could use in negotiations.

But at some point, once the Russians went in, and then when the operation was done, this became increasingly odious to the people who did it. These are well-trained people; they are in the highest level of secret intelligence agencies. They turned on the project. They thought this was an insane thing to do. And within a week, or three or four days after the bombing, after they did what they were ordered to, there was a lot of anger and hostility. This is obviously reflected in the fact that I’m learning so much about it.

And I’ll tell you something else. The people in America and Europe who build pipelines know what happened. I’m telling you something important. The people who own companies that build pipelines know the story. I didn’t get the story from them but I learned quickly they know.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERLet’s go back to this situation in June last year. President Joe Biden decided not to do it directly and postponed it. So why did they do it then in September?

SEYMOUR HERSH The secretary of state, Anthony Blinken, said a few days after the pipeline was blown up, at a news conference, that a major economic and almost military force was taken away from Vladimir Putin. He said this was a tremendous opportunity, as Russia could no longer weaponize the pipelines — meaning that it was not able to force Western Europe not to support the United States in the war. The fear was that Western Europe would not go along any longer in the war. I think that the reason they decided to do it then was that the war wasn’t going well for the West, and they were afraid with winter coming. The Nord Stream 2 has been sanctioned by Germany, and the United States was afraid that Germany would lift the sanctions because of a bad winter.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERAccording to you, what were the motives when you look behind the scenes? The US government was opposed to the pipeline for many reasons. Some say they were opposed to it because they wanted to weaken Russia, to weaken the ties between Russia and Western Europe, Germany especially. But maybe also to weaken the German economy, which, after all, is a competitor to the US economy. With the high gas prices, enterprises have started to move to the United States. So what’s your sense of the motives of the US government, if they blew up the pipeline?

SEYMOUR HERSHI don’t think they thought it through. I know this sounds strange. I don’t think that Blinken and some others in the administration are deep thinkers. There certainly are people in the American economy who like the idea of us being more competitive. We’re selling LNG, liquefied gas, at extremely big profits; we’re making a lot of money on it. I’m sure there were some people thinking, boy, this is going to be a long-time boost for the American economy.

But in that White House, I think the obsession was always reelection, and they wanted to win the war, they wanted to get a victory, they want Ukraine to somehow magically win.

There could be some people who think maybe it’ll be better for our economy if the German economy is weak, but that’s crazy thinking. I think, basically, that we’ve bitten deep into something that’s not going to work. The war is not going to turn out well for this government.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERHow do you think this war could end?

SEYMOUR HERSHIt doesn’t matter what I think. What I know is there’s no way this war is going to turn out the way we want, and I don’t know what we’re going to do as we go further down the line. It scares me if the president was willing to do this.

And the people who did this mission believed that the president did realize what he was doing to the people of Germany, that he was punishing them for a war that wasn’t going well. And in the long run, this is going to be very detrimental not only to his reputation as the president but politically too. It’s going to be a stigma for America.

So what you have is a White House that thought it may have a losing card: Germany and Western Europe may stop giving the arms we want and the German chancellor could turn the pipeline on — that was always a fear. I would be asking a lot of questions to Chancellor Scholz. I would ask him what he learned in February when he was with the president. The operation was a big secret, and the president wasn’t supposed to tell anybody about this capability. But he does talk. He says things that he doesn’t want to.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERYour story was reported in Western media with some restraint and criticism. Some attacked your reputation or said that you have only one anonymous source, and that’s not reliable.

SEYMOUR HERSHHow could I possibly talk about a source? I’ve written many stories based on unnamed sources. If I named somebody, they’d be fired, or, worse, jailed. The law is so strict. I’ve never had anybody exposed, and of course when I write I say, as I did in this article, it’s a source, period. And over the years, the stories I’ve written have always been accepted. I have used for this story the same caliber of skilled fact-checkers as had worked with me at the New Yorker magazine. Of course, there are many ways to verify obscure information told to me.

And, you know, a personal attack on me doesn’t get to the point. The point is that Biden chose to keep Germany cold this winter. The president of the United States would rather see Germany cold [because of energy shortages] than Germany possibly not supportive in the Ukraine war, and that, to me, is going to be a devastating thing for this White House. For me, and I think also for the people on the mission, it was appalling.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERThe point is also that it can be perceived as an act of war not only against Russia but against Western allies, especially Germany.

SEYMOUR HERSHLet’s keep it simple. I can tell you that the people involved in the operation saw the president as choosing to keep Germany cold for his short-range political goals, and that horrified them. I’m talking about American people that are intensely loyal to the United States. In the CIA, it’s understood that, as I put it in my article, they work for the Crown, they don’t work for the Constitution.

The one virtue of the CIA is that a president, who can’t get his agenda through Congress and nobody listens to him, can take a walk in the backyard of the Rose Garden of the White House with the CIA director and somebody can get hurt eight thousand miles away. That’s always been the selling point of the CIA, which I have problems with. But even that community is appalled that he chose to keep Europe cold in support of a war that he’s not going to win. And that, to me, is heinous.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERYou said in your article that the planning of the attack was not reported to Congress, as is necessary with other covert operations.

SEYMOUR HERSHIt also wasn’t reported to many places inside the military. There were other people in other institutions that should have known but were not informed. The operation was very secret.

FABIAN SCHEIDLER There was some critique of your article by people who are engaged in evaluating open-source intelligence (OSINT) on ships and airplanes in the Baltic Sea region, saying that no Norwegian plane was detected directly at the spot of the explosions on September 26 or the days before.

SEYMOUR HERSH Any serious covert operation takes OSINT into account and works around it. As I said, there were people on the mission who took care of this issue.

FABIAN SCHEIDLERWhat role does courage play for you in your profession?

SEYMOUR HERSH What’s courageous about telling the truth? Our job isn’t to be afraid. And sometimes it gets ugly. There have been times in my life, when — you know, I don’t talk about it. Threats aren’t made to people like me; they’re made to children of people like me. There’s been awful stuff. But you don’t worry about it — you can’t. You have to just do what you do.

Joe Biden is planning to deliver his most extended public remarks yet — as early as Thursday — on the unidentified objects that the U.S. military has been shooting down, three people familiar with the matter said.

Biden will use his address to explain how the administration intends to deal with aerial balloons and other objects spotted in the future, based on a study conducted by a series of government agencies.

The exact timing of Biden’s remarks has not yet been settled. Joe is due to take a physical exam Thursday that could last several hours.

With federal investigators analyzing the wreckage and many questions still unanswered, Biden has been sparing in his remarks thus far.

White House officials have been privately discussing whether he should deliver an address about the military shooting down a Chinese spy balloon and three other objects that have still not been identified, NBC News reported Tuesday.

Biden has faced growing pressure to speak out. Amid an information vacuum, conspiracy theories have been sprouting up, forcing White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to announce at a daily briefing that she could definitively say that the objects that have been downed were not extraterrestrial spacecraft.

“It was important for us to say that from here because we’ve been hearing a lot about it,” she said earlier this week.

    • CNN – US intel assessing possibility that Chinese spy balloon’s path over US was accidental

US intelligence officials are assessing the possibility that the suspected Chinese spy balloon was not deliberately maneuvered into the continental US by the Chinese government and are examining whether it was diverted off course by strong winds, multiple people briefed on the intelligence tell CNN.

After the balloon lifted off from Hainan, China last month, US officials monitored it as it made its way across the Pacific, sources said. After tracking the balloon for a little while, officials believed it would head towards Guam, where it would probably try to surveil military sites on the island.

But the balloon instead went north unexpectedly and crossed into Alaska, Canada, and then downward, reentering the US through northern Idaho and moving towards Montana – a path that US officials are not sure was purposeful, and may have been determined more by strong winds than deliberate, external maneuvering by Beijing.

China did maintain some ability to maneuver the balloon, however. Once the balloon was over Montana, officials believe China took advantage of its position to loiter over sensitive sites and try to collect intelligence.

The balloon then moved eastward over the US and was shot down off the coast of South Carolina on February 4 by US fighter jets. As CNN has reported, the US intelligence community last year developed a method of tracking what it says is a fleet of Chinese balloons operating across the globe.

Weather modeling done by CNN suggests it is plausible that the wind currents at the time diverted the balloon northward toward Alaska.

The Washington Post first reported that officials are examining the possibility that China didn’t intend for the balloon to travel over the continental US.

Any intelligence suggesting that the balloon’s path into the US may have been unintentional could ease tensions between Washington and Beijing and may offer both countries a way out of what has become an increasingly tense diplomatic crisis.

A day after the US publicly revealed the balloon had been spotted, Secretary of State Antony Blinken postponed a high-profile trip to Beijing and accused China of deliberately flying the balloon over the US in call with his counterpart Wang Yi, calling it “both unacceptable and irresponsible.”

“I made clear that the presence of this surveillance balloon in US airspace is a clear violation of US sovereignty and international law, that it’s an irresponsible act and that the PRC (People’s Republic of China) decision to take this action on the eve of my planned visit is detrimental to the substantive discussions that we were prepared to have,” Blinken told reporters on February 2.

Blinken and Wang will both attend the Munich Security Conference this weekend. US officials said a meeting between the two is not currently planned but have not fully ruled out the possibility.

It is not clear what intelligence the US has gleaned that has made officials consider it a credible possibility that the balloon’s overall trajectory may have been at least partly accidental. The US intelligence community is also closely scrutinizing which elements of the Chinese government ordered and approved the balloon’s mission.

The US and Chinese governments have been clashing publicly over the vessel, which China has said was a weather balloon that accidentally entered US airspace.

“Affected by the westerly wind and with limited self-control ability, the airship seriously deviated from the scheduled route,” China’s Foreign Ministry said on February 3. “China regrets that the airship strayed into the United States due to force majeure. China will continue to maintain communication with the US to properly handle the unexpected situation.”

The US, however, has insisted that the balloon was being used for surveillance, and that it was not completely at the mercy of the winds. China has flown similar surveillance balloons into mainland US airspace in the past, including near Florida and Texas. But US officials have acknowledged that the balloon’s maneuverability was limited.

Asked earlier this month whether the Chinese government is “controlling the movement of the balloon, or is it just floating with air streams,” Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder declined to comment in detail.

“I’m not going to go into any specific intelligence that we may have,” he said. “Again, we know this is a Chinese balloon and that it has the ability to maneuver, but I’ll just leave it at that.”

Breitbart reported on a deal with the Saudis where Jim Biden was brought in and a secret $140 million settlement was negotiated:James Biden secretly negotiated a $140 million settlement deal in 2012 between a U.S. company and the Saudi Arabian government due to his relationship with then-Vice President Joe Biden, court documents reveal.

The revelation represents one more instance of the Biden family business peddling influence while President Joe Biden was an elected official. House Oversight Committee James Comer (R-KY) reportedly already has copies of the court documents and is investigating the scandal as a part of his probe into the Biden family for nine violations, including wire fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering

  22. Daniel Greenfield:
After Biden sent $1 billion to the PLO, Israeli deaths rose 900%

When U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with PLO leader Mahmoud Abbas last month, he boasted of the over one billion dollars in aid that the Biden administration had programmed for the terrorist territories.

That aid has come with a very heavy price.

In Feb. 2019, President Trump’s total cutoff of aid to the Palestinians became official. That year, 10 Israelis or people in Israeli controlled areas were killed in stabbings, shootings, rocket and other attacks, down from 12 the previous year, 15 in 2017 and 16 in 2016.

In 2020, however, only three Israelis were killed.

These numbers reflected the diminished capacity of the Islamic terrorists. The reduction in numbers was not due to the pandemic. The year still saw attacks, including firebombings, rocket launches and stabbings, but the success and lethality rates for these attacks were lower.

The numbers turned around dramatically once again in 2021.

In April 2021, the Biden administration restored aid to the PLO. Terror incidents, reflecting attack attempts, shot up sharply, from 91 in February and 89 in March to 130 in April.

By May, major fighting had resumed, with 13 Israelis, including two children, killed.

By the time the year was over, 17 people in Israeli areas had been killed. The over 400% increase in deaths was only the beginning. In 2022, 31 Israelis or people in Israeli areas were killed, up from only three in 2020, for a massive 900% increase in casualties since the restoration of foreign aid to the terrorists. This was the worst death toll since 2015 under Obama.

But in January and the first half of February, 10 Israelis have already been killed, including a 6-year-old boy and his 8-year-old brother.

  24. US Afghanistan Embassy Chargé d’Affaires in Exile Tweets Black History Month Nonsense to Afghan People Biden Betrayed to Taliban

(Note to readers from Media Matters and SPLC: This characterization describes what Decker is posting, not Black History Month itself.) In August 2021, Joe Biden committed the greatest betrayal of a foreign ally by any U.S. president when he unilaterally pulled U.S. troops out of Afghanistan, paving the way for the brutal Islamist Taliban to return to power nearly twenty years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Afghan women (and men) lost all the gains they had made in two decades under U.S. and NATO protection with the Taliban barring women and girls from secondary schools universities and most parts of public life while imposing strict clothing and travel restrictions on them

In January, Decker foreshadowed the nonsense she would be tweeting to Afghans, by asking who is their Martin Luther King

  25. WATCH: Sarah Palin Says Ron DeSantis Should Stay Out of 2024 Race
    By Cassandra MacDonald
    Published February 15, 2023 at 3:00pm

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has said that she believes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis should stay out of the 2024 presidential race.
DeSantis has not announced an intent to run, but there has been wide speculation that he will.

Palin weighed in on Tuesday during an interview with Newsmax.

“DeSantis doesn’t need to [run],” Palin said. “I envision him as our president someday, but not right now.

“He should stay governor for a bit longer,” she continued. “He’s young, you know. He has decades ahead of him where he can be our president

Palin said that while a good debate in the primaries will be better for the party, she still believes Donald Trump will win.

“I’m all about healthy, competitive primaries,” Palin said. “That makes everybody debate more articulately and work harder and let the people know what [their] records are and visions for this country are. And so, I love healthy debate and competitive primaries.”

“But when you talk about the specific people, the individual people who are looking at putting their hat in the ring, … they got a lot of guts thinking they’re gonna go up against Trump,” she continued.

So far, Trump and neoconservative war hawk Nikki Haley are the only Republicans who have announced their campaigns for 2024

  26. Arsenal: Assessing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ballistic Missile Program

    Executive Summary

Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal is growing in size and quality. It is a threat to U.S. interests and the security of America’s allies in the greater Middle East. Improvements in ballistic missile precision, range, mobility, warhead design, and survivability (including the creation of underground missile depots) imply an increasingly lethal long-range strike capability in the hands of the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism.

Iran’s diverse ballistic missile program is an outgrowth of Tehran’s experiences during the Iran-Iraq War, which taught the nascent revolutionary regime the imperatives of deterrence and self-reliance. Status and security considerations also spur Iran’s ballistic missile drive, as they do its nuclear program.

Iran’s ballistic missile program benefits from sustained elite backing. The program was established by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the ideological military that exists alongside Iran’s conventional forces. The missile program is now underwritten by a broad swath of government-connected defense contractors, enabling the procurement, production, and proliferation of missile systems and associated technologies or materials.

Ballistic missiles offer Tehran the means to deter, punish, and coerce adversaries. They compensate for Iran’s conventional warfighting deficiencies and keep the door open for nuclear weapons. According to the 2019 U.S. Missile Defense Review, missiles constitute “one of Tehran’s primary tools of coercion and force projection.”1

Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal also provides Tehran with the confidence and security to pursue its revisionist foreign policy with less fear of military reprisal. This may lead to increased risk-taking, including battlefield use of its arsenal. This was apparent in over half a dozen ballistic missile operations launched from Iranian territory between 2017 and 2022, one of which, in 2020, included strikes on bases in Iraq housing American soldiers.

Failure to deter Iran will likely guarantee more missile use. In 2022, for example, Iran launched almost three times as many ballistic missiles as it did in 2021. A missile’s ability to reach its target in minutes amplifies existing challenges in an already troubled region.

  27. China Beefs Up Alliance With Iran Amid Spy Concerns

China is strengthening its diplomatic relationship with Iran and plans to integrate the two nations’ economies with a 25-year cooperation program.

Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi landed in Beijing on Tuesday, marking the first state visit by an Iranian president to China in two decades. Raisi met with Chinese president Xi Jinping, who said during public remarks that the Communist regime “will unswervingly maintain its friendship and cooperation with Iran and advance China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership.”

The two rogue nations are poised to finalize a series of bilateral cooperation agreements during Raisi’s trip that will see Tehran and Beijing integrate their economies to historic levels.

The meetings come amid efforts by both regimes to offset U.S. influence across the globe and interfere in U.S. national security operations. China’s spy apparatus has dominated the headlines after one of its spy balloons traversed the continental United States before being shot down by the Biden administration. Three other unidentified flying objects were shot down across the United States and Canada over the weekend. The closer relationship is raising concerns among experts who say the agreement is bad news for Washington. Iran has an interest in this technology and could press its allies in the Communist regime to help it construct similar types of equipment. The increased economic ties between the countries could also help both regimes skirt U.S. sanctions.

They feel that Idaho, a far more conservative state, much better represents their beliefs.

Conservatives in Oregon fed up with the far-left policies coming from the state legislature in Salem may have hope on the horizon. The Greater Idaho Movement, a secession movement with allies in both the Oregon and Idaho state legislatures, is making progress in its efforts to convince 15 conservative counties in rural Oregon to secede and join Idaho

11 eastern Oregon counties have already voted in favor of joining Idaho. Due to this success, Idaho state lawmakers have introduced legislation to begin discussions with the Oregon State Legislature on relocating the Idaho/Oregon state boundary.

A Republican State Senator in Oregon introduced a bill to start talks with Idaho last month.

  34. Federal Prosecutors Investigating Trump’s Classified Documents Case Move to Turn the Screws on Trump’s Lawyer
    By Cristina Laila
    Published February 15, 2023 at 7:45pm

Federal prosecutors investigating Trump’s handling of classified documents are seeking testimony from Trump’s lawyer, M. Evan Corcoran.

Trump lawfully stored presidential records at Mar-a-Lago but Joe Biden sent his machine gun-toting thugs to raid the Florida residence last summer.

Recall, Corcoran recently appeared before a Washington DC federal grand jury and asserted attorney-client privilege on President Trump’s behalf.

Mr. Corcoran refused to answer questions so now the prosecutors are seeking to the turn the screws on him to compel testimony.

The team of prosecutors working for Special Counsel Jack Smith are investigating whether Trump ‘obstructed justice’ in refusing to comply with demands to return his presidential records following a subpoena that was issued last June.
