1. U of O scientist seeking edible vaccine for COVID-19
(CBC of course. So is this a disinformation injection to make us not trust our food? Either way…)
Plant biologist injecting tiny amounts of virus into tomato, potato, lettuce leaves
Eating your veggies isn’t only good for you — it may someday protect you against COVID-19.
That’s the hope of a plant biologist at the University of Ottawa who’s working to create an edible vaccine for the novel coronavirus.
Allyson MacLean’s research involves injecting tomato, potato and lettuce plants with a tiny particle of viral DNA swimming in a bacterial solution.
“We take a syringe that does not have a needle point. You press it up against the large leaf … and you basically push … the bacteria into the plant tissues,” said MacLean, 41, an assistant professor of plant biology.
The bacteria piggyback that DNA into the plant, which triggers the production of viral proteins. Eating the plant allows these proteins to pass through the digestive system, where they’re taken up by special cells in the gut, stimulating a type of immunity.
It’s called “mucosal immunity,” and it’s of particular interest to the scientists currently joined in battle with COVID-19 because the virus that causes the disease, SARS-CoV-2, enters the body via the mucosal surface of the respiratory system.
[…] Plus, she believes people would rather eat their medicine than get a shot. “People are more willing to ingest a vaccine than they are to get a needle.”
(…Need to know more about this before a blanket condemnation. But if this is the same gene-therapy in the injections, as opposed to a more benign nutraceutical based interference with infection, then it is indeed monstrous.)
2. The ArriveCan app is working out great
3. Related: Can you reject a mandatory Covid test at the airport?
Some Canadians on social media have been suggesting that travellers can reject a Covid test when returning to Canada from an international trip, claiming the test would be a violation of Section 14 of the federal Quarantine Act.
The Trudeau government resumed its controversial mandatory random Covid-19 testing program for fully vaccinated air travellers Tuesday, despite Canadian airports being plagued with major delays. The testing will now be done offsite.
Section 14 of the Act refers to screening technology and states that “any qualified person authorized by the Minister may, to determine whether a traveller has a communicable disease or symptoms of one, use any screening technology authorized by the Minister that does not involve the entry into the traveller’s body of any instrument or other foreign body.”
(Think they will test for AIDS or Monkeypox for travellers? I don’t either. A stain on the old rainbow flag.)
4. This might explain a few things.
5. Biden gets 4 shots, catches Covid for what, the second time? And does this:
Is there some kind of therapy planet we can tow Earth to?
Thank you all for your kind attention to this site and continued contributions to this community of your insights, observations and news links in the Daily Reader’s Links post.
From the tone of the Canadian Border guy, it sounds like his job is done when he has given Ms. Joanne Walsh the quarantine papers and the test kits. It also sounds like SHE now has to report to Public Health Canada before leaving the premises.
If that were me, I would dump the whole kit and caboodle in the trash and just go home.
