Reader’s Links for June 8th, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. BBC – Berlin: One dead and others hurt as car drives into pedestrians

One person has been killed and at least a dozen more injured after a car drove into a crowd on a busy Berlin street.

Emergency officials say it is unclear whether the incident, which happened at around 10:30 local time (08:30 GMT), was intentional or an accident.

A police spokesperson told reporters that the driver was arrested at the scene.

The incident took place in the heart of western Berlin, on one of its busiest shopping streets.

“There are seriously injured people among the more than a dozen injured,” police spokesperson Thilo Cablitz said.

Reports say the vehicle veered off the street and mounted the pavement before crashing into a shop front.

[…]The actor John Barrowman tweeted that he was nearby when the incident took place and in a video posted from the scene said the car had repeatedly mounted the footpath before crashing into the storefront.

“The police presence is unbelievable. They are clearing out the area,” the actor said. “There’s helicopters coming in now to airlift people.

NYT – Car Crashes Into a Berlin Crowd, Killing 1 and Injuring a Dozen

[…]The police have arrested the male driver of the car and started an investigation into whether the crash was accidental or intentional.

“Part of the reconstruction of the event, of course, is to look at the extent to which this was an intentional act or a traffic accident that may have occurred because of an exceptional medical situation,” Thilo Cablitz, a Berlin police spokesman, told reporters on the scene.

Mr. Cablitz, who confirmed the casualty numbers, said passers-by had apprehended the driver, who has not yet been identified. He was then taken into custody by the police, who know no motive at this time, Mr. Cablitz said.

[…]The driver first drove onto a sidewalk and into a crowd, then back onto the street, only to drive back onto the sidewalk and into the front of a store, according to witness accounts.

Witnesses said the car drove ‘very fast’ towards the pavement before mounting it and hitting pedestrians, then rejoined the road and drove about 600ft further down the street. The car then mounted the pavement again, hit more shoppers, and crashed through the front window of a Douglas perfume shop.

The driver tried to flee the scene but was held by two passersby until police arrived. Officers say the man has been arrested, but refused to say whether they believe the crash was deliberate or an accident.

      • China Provoking Japan to Set Off Military Offensive

According to recent reporting from the Lude Media network inside China, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are planning to instigate conflict in the South China Sea by triggering friction between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Japan.

Stirring up trouble over the disputed Senkaku Islands and various atolls and coral reefs will be used in an attempt to provoke Japan to fight back. Then, per this reported plan, the CCP will attempt to resurrect regional tensions dating back to World War II by accusing Japan of “new Japanese militarism.”

According to a June 1 article at The Gateway Pundit, the PRC in fact may already have begun such provocations in waters that include the East and South China Sea as well as the Philippine Sea and Pacific Ocean.

As these waters include many atolls, coral reefs and islands that are disputed among China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, Beijing’s strategy is to take advantage of conflicting claims to extend its reach while protesting that such matters are questions of international jurisdiction under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The five uninhabited Senkaku Islands, for example, lie in the East China Sea between Japan, the People’s Republic of China, and the Republic of China (Taiwan), and involve territorial disputes among them all.

Beijing is counting on other regional powers like Taiwan refraining from becoming involved to avoid being labeled as supporting Japanese “militarism.”

If, however, Taiwan should declare its support for Japan, then the CCP will depend on subversive operations inside Taiwan to provoke internal opposition to such a policy, including within the Taiwanese military.

Beijing may have launched its planned provocation campaign within the last week. On May 30, more than 10 PLA navy and ostensibly civilian ships that included fishing vessels and supposed scientific research ships reportedly attacked Okinotori-shima, a coral reef in the Philippine Sea.

Also referred to as Okinotorishima, the reef is under Japanese administration and comprised two large rocks surrounded and enlarged by an array of tetrapod-cement structures that protected the reef from being swamped by the waters of high tide. The Chinese ships allegedly bombed the tetrapod structures before being challenged by one nearby Japanese military ship and a Japanese civilian fishing vessel, which were quickly surrounded by the Chinese ships before withdrawing from the area.

More Japanese naval vessels were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the Chinese ships had already left. Having destroyed the protective tetrapod structures, however, Beijing appears poised to claim boundary issues regarding the now-exposed coral reef.

The only international coverage of this incident thus far seems to come from two CCP-controlled media outlets: the Chinese international English language state-run cable TV news service, CGTN, based in Beijing and owned by the Chinese state media China Central, and the South China Morning Post.

In a June 2 article, the CGTN headline protested that “Japan must respect legality of jurisdictional waters.” Beijing claims that Japan has no “entitlement” to an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) around the Okinotori reef and as expected refers to the UNCLOS.

In the broader East Asia region, among countries and regions that were invaded by Japan during World War II, Beijing intends to cover its aggressive moves by reviving animosities from the so-called “War Against Japanese Aggression.”

CCP propaganda will seek to provoke fear of being encroached upon by Japan again and present China and the PLA as regional defenders. Beijing’s objective is to unify the entire Indo-Pacific region under Chinese domination by removing and excluding the U.S., Japan and their allies entirely from the area.

This new information follows on earlier reporting based on a 14 May 2022 audio recording that was leaked out of a top-level CCP-PLA meeting in Beijing, where plans were discussed to move China from peacetime to a war footing as early as this month.

Per the audio recording of that meeting, Beijing intends to attack Taiwan no later than November and attempt to sweep the South China Sea clear of U.S., Japanese, Taiwanese and all other naval vessels of allied powers.

In a perhaps not-unrelated development, just days before the reported PLA action against Okinotori-shima, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken laid out the Biden administration’s China policy.

Described as “Invest. Align. Compete,” the policy, heavy on appeasement, explicitly states that the U.S. wants to avoid conflict and “wouldn’t interfere with China’s ascent to great power status.” Blinken also made clear that the U.S. seeks to invest in Chinese industries, not decouple from them.

Missing was any mention of tough measures to clamp down on companies using slave labor in China or the CCP’s rampant theft of U.S. firms’ intellectual property. Apparently, the globalist elements of the Biden administration won out in in their effort to prioritize climate change over national security.

  4. INDIA – Al-Qaeda warns of suicide bombings over ‘insult to Prophet’

“The saffron terrorists should now await their end in Delhi, Bombay, UP and Gujarat. They should find refuge neither in their homes nor in their fortified army cantonments,” the letter states.

Central intelligence agencies are on alert after the Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) issued a letter warning of suicide bombings in Indian cities and states to avenge the insult to the Prophet. In a threat letter dated June 6, the AQIS said it would launch suicide attacks in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat to “fight for the honour of the Prophet”. All the states have been informed by the intelligence agencies about the threat and they have been asked to be on high alert.

“A few days ago, the propagators and flag bearers of Hindutva – a system and philosophy hostile to the religion and Shariah of Allah – insulted and slandered the purest of beings, the most honourable after God himself, Muhammad al Mustafa, Ahmad al Mujtaba, and his noble and pure wife, the mother of the believers, Sayyidah Ayesha bint Abu Bakr as Siddeeq in the most vile and evil manner on an Indian TV channel. In response to this affront, the hearts of Muslim all over the world are bleeding and are filled with feelings of revenge and retribution,” the letter says.

It adds, “We warn every audacious and impudent foul mouth of the world, especially the Hindutva terrorists occupying Indian that we should fight for the dignity of our Prophet, we should urge others to fight and die for the honour of our Prophet, we should kill those who affront our Prophet and we should bind explosives with our bodies and the bodies of our children to blow away the ranks of those who dare to dishonour our Prophet.”

“The saffron terrorists should now await their end in Delhi, Bombay, UP and Gujarat. They should find refuge neither in their homes nor in their fortified army cantonments,” the letter states. After receiving the threat letter, the central agencies first verified it and then asked all state police forces concerned to be on high alert.

    • Background of AQIS from their founding, in 2014:
Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS)
AQIS reportedly operates in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. [Anti-secular, not so much anti-India. Targets throughout south Asia.]

AQIS was formed after a two-year effort to consolidate jihadist factions on the Indian Subcontinent, according to al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri [Y”S]*, who announced the affiliate’s formation in a video dated Sept 3, 2014.

Included in the group’s ranks are Taliban fighters loyal to both Zawahiri and Taliban emir Mullah Mawlawi Haibatullah Akhundzada, who assumed this position in May 2015 following the death of the Taliban’s former emir, Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour…

Analysts generally believe that al-Zawahiri created AQIS in order to steal the limelight from expanding ISIS and therefore promote al-Qaeda’s brand. The Diplomat’s Jordan Olmstead asserts that “AQIS isn’t about India?–?it’s about preserving al-Qaeda’s safe havens in Pakistan and Afghanistan,” especially amid rivalries w ISIS and the Pakistani army for influence and control over the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region…

AQIS prioritizes American targets in Pakistan and strives for a complete American withdrawal from the region, according to the Code of Conduct document. While AQIS maintains its focus on jihad in the regions specified above, it also supports and espouses al-Qaeda’s broader objective to conduct attacks against the United States and other Western targets…

  5. RUSSIA vs UKRAINE: This guy has it right and how it will all end.

Going back to the beginning of the Russian invasion, it wasn’t supposed to end in such a way. But Zelensky’s stubbornness, greed, and eventual submission to the USA led to the destruction of his nation.

    • Putin’s end game was always bringing Ukraine back into the Russian Federation/the Russian Empire.

I don’t think NATO is organized enough to want to destroy Russia. As for the war with the US Putin was as surprised by Bidens reaction to the Russian attack as I was. Putin thought Biden was going to let him conquer Ukraine and then dominate Western Europe by controlling the energy supplies to Western Europe.

A rump Ukraine would be a flash point as a source of outside agitation for the freedom of the rest of the nation Putin had stolen. With that region part of Russia any agitation could be suppressed without word leaking out.

  6. UKRAINE – “No grain will go anywhere to anyone” until the issue of Ukraine’s security is resolved.

Ukraine will not be able to resume grain supplies until it is safe, said the head of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, on the air of the telethon on Wednesday, June 8.

“If the question that our country will be safe is not resolved, no grain will go anywhere to anyone. Because for us the number one issue is security,” he said.

According to Danilov, this “issue is under control” because “no one wants to see hunger in the world.”

He accused Russia of creating artificial obstacles to Ukrainian exports, “in order to seize the market for itself, and then blackmail us because of the lack of food.”

Russia blocks Ukrainian grain exports due to competition, Danilov believes
RT- UN comments on grain stealing allegations

The organization has no proof that Russia has been illegally exporting Ukrainian grain

The UN is unable to verify accusations made by Kiev that Moscow is “stealing” and exporting Ukrainian grain, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, has said.

Asked about the claims during a news briefing on Tuesday, Dujarric said that neither the UN Secretary-General’s office nor the UN World Food Programme (WFP) had any credible information on the matter.

“We’ve seen recent media reports, we’re talking to our colleagues at WFP. They have no way of verifying these allegations. I think WFP, as we all have, has been advocating for a free movement of food from the Black Sea to ensure that the needs of people around the world are met,” he said.

Ukraine has repeatedly accused Moscow of “stealing” its stockpiles of wheat amid the ongoing conflict, most recently, by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar.

  8. US lawmakers to introduce resolution condemning “Great Replacement Theory”

U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) spoke Wednesday, surrounded by other Democratic lawmakers and family members of the Buffalo supermarket shooting victims, about a resolution he would be introducing to condemn the “Great Replacement Theory.”

The “Great Replacement Theory” was allegedly cited in a manifesto by the gunman in the Buffalo shooting, and is a conspiracy theory that says there is a plot to diminish the influence of white people in society. According to reports on the theory, believers say the goal is being achieved by immigration of nonwhite people and through “simple demographics.”

Bowman said Congress must address both gun control and the root causes of hate.

“This (the theory) has spread and infected the minds of so many,” Bowman said. “It is a conspiracy theory used to stoke racially-motivated violence all around the world.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also spoke at the news conference with Bowman, calling the theory harmful to both the country and democracy.

The vote on the resolution is expected to take place later on Wednesday.
