Reader’s Links for October 6, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. NOW, listen to this, very carefully:

    * AG Merrick Garland’s Daughter Married to Co-Founder of Education Company Selling Critical Race Theory Resource Material to School Districts **

Well, well, well… This is interesting. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland recently instructed the FBI to begin investigating parents who confront school board administrators over Critical Race Theory indoctrination material. The U.S. Department of Justice issued a memorandum to the FBI instructing them to initiate investigations of any parent attending a local school board meeting who might be viewed as confrontational, intimidating or harassing.

When it comes to conflicts of interest, Attorney General Merrick Garland appears to have a huge one.

Merrick’s daughter, Rebecca Garland, is married to the co-founder of an education resource company that pushes critical race theory – which angry parents across the country are protesting. Taking matters into his own hands, AG Garland tapped the FBI on Monday to huddle with local leaders to address a “disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence” against teachers and school board members.

[…]In June, several meeting attendees and newly elected board members at the Moore County School District in North Carolina pushed back against continuing their contract with Panorama – with one calling it an “indoctrination platform” which aims to mold students into “social justice warriors.”

[…]From a 2013 interview in Inc. “Feuer says it was the promise of Panorama’s social impact, not its financial return, that first caught Zuckerberg’s eye.” Zuckerberg’s foundation called Startup:Education infused $4 million dollars into Panorama in 2013.
Panorama has found multiple social change and educational technology equity partners including; Spark Capital a San Francisco Bay area company- capital funders behind Twitter and Tumblr, Emerson Collective a Palo Alto company self described as a social change organization, and Owl Ventures, the world’s largest holder of education technology with $1.2 billion in assets- based out of Silicon Valley founded in 2014. By 2017 Panorama Education had raised $32 million in venture capital to data mine children and implement social transformation into schools.

[…]Panorama charges between $500 to $3,000 per school for their basic data tools and Playbook. Just the annual survey screener for the Chapel Hill- Carrboro City Schools was $29,000 for a one year contract.

Through a records request it was disclosed in 2020-2021 JCPS paid $214,000 for a one year contract with Panorama Education.

  3. US government ordering Google to provide users’ search data: report

The US federal government is secretly ordering Google and other search engines to track and provide data on anyone who searches certain terms through “keyword warrants,” according to a new report.

In recent years, only two such warrants have been made public, but accidentally unsealed court documents obtained by Forbes show the government has been making these requests far more frequently.

The unsealed warrant stemmed from a 2019 federal investigation in Wisconsin, where investigators were searching for men they believed had taken part in trafficking and sexually abusing a minor.

In an effort to track them down, officials ordered Google to provide any information on users, including account names, IP addresses and CookieIDs, that searched the victim’s name, two spellings of her mother’s name and her address over 16 days throughout the year.

Google provided the data in mid-2020, Forbes reported, though the document did not say how many people had their information sent to federal investigators.

The warrant was supposed to be secret and the Justice Department only became aware of the leak after the outlet reached out for comment. The investigation is still ongoing and the warrant has since been sealed.

Only two keyword warrants were made public before the Wisconsin case.

One from 2017 shows a Minnesota judge signed off on an order asking Google to provide data on any user within the city of Edina who searched a fraud victim’s name.

The second, revealed in 2020, requested information on anyone who searched for the address of an arson victim who was also a witness in the government’s racketeering case against R. Kelly.

Forbes identified a third unreported warrant filed in the Northern District of California in December of last year. The warrant is currently under seal and has only publicly been noted in a court docket. The information requested could be extremely broad as the warrant is titled, “Application by the United States for a Search Warrant for Google Accounts Associated with Six Search Terms and Four Search Dates.”

Following the initial report, three more keyword warrants came to light that were used in the investigation into the 2018 Austin bombings.

The warrants appear to be very broad, ordering Google, Microsoft and Yahoo search engines to provide information on users who searched various addresses and terms related to bombs, including “low explosives” and “pipe bomb.”

It is unclear how much data the search engines provided investigators.

The broad orders have been criticized by privacy experts, as they raise fears that innocent users could get caught up in a criminal investigation, with one expert claiming the warrants threaten the First Amendment.

“Trawling through Google’s search history database enables police to identify people merely based on what they might have been thinking about, for whatever reason, at some point in the past. This is a virtual dragnet through the public’s interests, beliefs, opinions, values and friendships, akin to mind reading powered by the Google time machine,” Jennifer Granick, surveillance and cybersecurity counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union.

“This never-before-possible technique threatens First Amendment interests and will inevitably sweep up innocent people, especially if the keyword terms are not unique and the time frame not precise. To make matters worse, police are currently doing this in secret, which insulates the practice from public debate and regulation.”

Google has defended handing over the information, saying, “As with all law enforcement requests, we have a rigorous process that is designed to protect the privacy of our users while supporting the important work of law enforcement.”

    • Library records of which books you check our have always been available to law enforcement with a subpoena. Why should internet searches be different? The issue is the data mining aspect–the fishing trip for suspects.

      • fishing trip for suspects

        EVERYBODY is suspect!

They’re fishing for ANY pretext for prosecution. It’s a form of intimidation that’s an absolute violation of the 4th-A. The intention is to induce fear, self-censorship, and snitches. To fragment the opposition and persecute dissidents.

Before being granted access to library records, law enforcement must obtain a subpoena. That requires evidence of probable cause of illicit activity.

In the absence of such due process, any and all evidence – even a smoking gun – is “fruit of a poisonous tree”. Immune to prosecution.

  4. The Arabs are winning the war

Across the street from our home in Jerusalem a new apartment building is being constructed. Most of the workers are Arabs. Throughout the hot summer months I wondered how they could work all day long in the sweltering sun. Even more so, they worked with great energy and simcha. All through the day, their shouts and laughter filled the neighborhood.

Yesterday, I parked my car near the building site. A few strapping Arab workers were sitting in the shade during a break while they waited for a crane to lift new planks up to the roof. One of them was smoking a cigarette.

“When do you expect to finish the construction?” I asked.

“Maybe in another two months,” he answered. “Maybe more if there is a lot of rain.”

“Tell me,” I inquired. “Doesn’t it frustrate you to construct apartment buildings for Jews?” “I am not building for the Jews,” he replied. “I am building it for the Arabs who will live here one day.”

“I am not building for the Jews,” he replied. “I am building it for the Arabs who will live here one day.”

His friends smiled and chuckled at his remark.

“Really? How is that going to happen?” I asked.

“It is simple,” he answered. “One day there will be a big war. Missiles will rain down on Israel from Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza. It will be a big balagan. Thousands of Jews will be killed. Thousands will flee from the country. The Arabs will win the war. Once again the land will be ours.”

  5. The Associated Press war of words against Israel

Associated Press should be asked why it is that only Jews are supposed to tolerate rockets, terrorists and a genocide, which would only increase if more land was given to Arabs. These Arabs are guided by Iran and who explicitly voice their intention to ethnically cleanse all Jews from Israel – now that they have ethnically cleansed them from all other Arab countries, except for the few who have signed on to the Abraham Accords.

Where is AP’s writing about Donald Trump’s amazing Abraham Accords which brought probable peace to progressive Arab regimes now cooperating with Israel? The answer is that AP is obsessed with promoting the murder of Jews by twisting the meaning of words like “militant” and “protest” and failing to give historical context to the fighting.

After writing three books on this topic, I have come to believe that this kind of mis-reporting is part of an attempted “second Holocaust” against the Jews, this time in our homeland. Nothing has changed really from the days during the Shoah when AP signed a cooperation agreement with Nazi Germany, one of the most shameful acts in all of modern journalism.

George Santayana is famous for his statement that “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

    Lapid is an unmitigated disaster:

“Yair Lapid is the most dangerous man in Israeli politics today, a good-looking, charismatic, overconfident fool, an affable ignoramus with no intellectual gravitas, devoid of moral principle, but with the gift of a silver tongue and the unmistakable – and largely undisguised – penchant for demagoguery and dictatorship.”

STOCKHOLM, Oct 6 (Reuters) – Sweden and Denmark said on Wednesday they are pausing the use of Moderna’s (MRNA.O) COVID-19 vaccine for younger age groups after reports of possible rare cardiovascular side effects.

The Swedish health agency said it would pause using the shot for people born in 1991 and later as data pointed to an increase of myocarditis and pericarditis among youths and young adults that had been vaccinated. Those conditions involve an inflammation of the heart or its lining.

“The connection is especially clear when it comes to Moderna’s vaccine Spikevax, especially after the second dose,” the health agency said, adding the risk of being affected was very small.

ctv – Associated Press – Sweden suspends Moderna vaccine for those 30 and under

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK — Scandinavian authorities on Wednesday suspended or discouraged the use of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine in young people because of an increased risk of heart inflammation, a very rare side effect associated with the shot.

Sweden suspended the use of Moderna for those recipients under 30, Denmark said those under 18 won’t be offered the Swiss-made vaccine, and Norway urged those under 30 to get the Pfizer vaccine instead.

The countries have adequate supplies of both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and will be able to continue their vaccination campaigns.

In neighboring Finland, authorities are expected to announce their decision Thursday, according to Dr. Hanna Nohynek, chief physician at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, told local broadcaster YLE.

All three countries based their decision on an unpublished study with Sweden’s Public Health Agency saying that it signals “an increased risk of side effects such as inflammation of the heart muscle or the pericardium” — the double-walled sac containing the heart and the roots of the main vessels. It added: “The risk of being affected is very small.”

Anders Tegnell, Sweden’s chief epidemiologist, said they “follow the situation closely and act quickly to ensure that vaccinations against COVID-19 are always as safe as possible and at the same time provide effective protection” against the disease.

Palestinian charged with attempted murder over terror stabbing in Jaffa

Prosecutors on Wednesday filed an indictment against a Palestinian man for the alleged terror stabbing in Tel Aviv on the eve of Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, during which a man was seriously hurt.

Mohammed Haroub, 30, was charged with “a terrorist act of attempted murder, a terrorist act of aggravated assault,” and illegally entering Israel from the West Bank.

Prosecutors said Haroub stabbed the victim with a screwdriver, assuming he was Jewish.

“The defendant, who believed that the plaintiff was a person of Jewish descent, approached him without being noticed, shouting at him in Arabic ‘Jew, Jew,’ hit him over the head with a bottle of water next to him, and stabbed him with the screwdriver in his upper body, with the intention of causing his death,” a statement from the Justice Ministry said.

The victim, a 49-year-old man from East Jerusalem, shouted back at the assailant in Arabic during the attack that he was not Jewish, but Haroub ignored his calls, the indictment read.

  9. Why were the posts I made for my wife Michelle, deleted? She could not post it as she is in hospital again, requiring further neurosurgery and has no PC access there as they wont allow it. I wont go into what I think of such a deletion as she thinks highly of the site and I don’t want to read garbage about owner’s rights etc. as I get enough of that on Breitbart etc. where moderators are a joke. MSN is hardly authoritative or honest I agree, but she has no control of what they put on the TV there and was desperate for news. She is ostracized as she still refuses any vaccine and the *******s make her wait.

    • Since I started this site I deleted maybe 5 posts. Today I deleted an antisemitic diatribe, but something else happened that MIGHT explain it.

This morning, the usual post for Oct 6 came up in the reader’s links but I accidentally made one for November 6 as well and it published today.

When I noticed it, I went and edited the publish date to November 6. So I think all comments on that post disappeared till a month from now.

Also when I tried to make a post on the Nov 6 thing explaining all this, it gave me a wierd error. Something about not being allowed to post. I guess because its not scheduled for another month now.

So this is my screw up. ANY comment on THIS post should be fine. But the November 6 post was sent back to the future.

Sorry for any frustration this clearly caused. That wasn’t the intention.

    • I love and respect Michelle’s posts as do many on Vladtepesblog. In the hospital, please relay to her my best wishes, she is a wonderful woman.

      • Thank you I will relay it to her. She has a problem in that she justly refused point blank to let any muslim doctors, near her as muslims are responsible for her injury and it now seems that 20% of med students are such. I managed to push for a transfer to a better hospital with less “diverse” staff and a far better neurosurgeon.
I wont post anymore here and will let her continue when she returns home(hopefully).

        • Well i hope you change your mind and do post here as often as inspired.

Sorry for any issues. They were technical not content.

  10. the telegraph – Revealed: Wuhan and US scientists planned to create new coronaviruses

Before Covid pandemic erupted, group submitted proposals to mix genetic data of related strains and grow completely new sequences

Scientists from Wuhan and the US were planning to create new coronaviruses that did not exist in nature by combining the genetic codes of other viruses, proposals show.

Documents of a grant application submitted to the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa), leaked last month, reveal that the international team of scientists planned to mix genetic data of closely related strains and grow completely new viruses.

A genetics expert working with the World Health Organisation (WHO), who uncovered the plan after studying the proposals in detail, said that if Sars-CoV-2 had been produced in this way, it would explain why a close match has never been found in nature.

So far the closest naturally occurring virus to Sars-CoV-2 is a strain called Banal-52, which was reported from Laos last month and shares 96.8 per cent of the genome. Yet scientists expect a direct ancestor to be around a 99.98 per cent match – and none has been found so far.

The Darpa proposals, leaked to the pandemic origins analysis group Drastic, show the team had planned to take sequences from naturally occurring coronaviruses and use them to create a brand new sequence that was an average of all the strains.

The grant application, submitted in 2018, states: “We will compile sequence/RNAseq data from a panel of closely related strains and compare full length genomes, scanning for unique SNPs representing sequencing errors.

“Consensus candidate genomes will be synthesised commercially using established techniques and genome-length RNA and electroporation to recover recombinant viruses.”

Explaining the proposal, a WHO collaborator, who has asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, said: “This means that they would take various sequences from similar coronaviruses and create a new sequence that is essentially the average of them. It would be a new virus sequence, not a 100 per cent match to anything.

“They would then synthesise the viral genome from the computer sequence, thus creating a virus genome that did not exist in nature but looks natural as it is the average of natural viruses.

“Then they put that RNA in a cell and recover the virus from it. This creates a virus that has never existed in nature, with a new ‘backbone’ that didn’t exist in nature but is very, very similar as it’s the average of natural backbones.”

The source said it was noteworthy that the cut-off for generating such an average sequence was viruses that only had five per cent genetic divergence from each other.

Last year, scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology said they had found a strain named RaTG13 in bat droppings in a cave in Yunnan province in 2013 which was a 96.1 per cent match to Sars-CoV-2. It means RaTG13 could have been included in a set of viral genomes to help create an average sequence.

Although the grant proposal was rejected in 2018, the Wuhan database of viral strains was taken offline prior to the Covid outbreak some 18 months later, meaning it is impossible to check which viruses the team was working on or had created. Wuhan scientists have consistently denied creating Sars-CoV-2 in a lab.

The WHO source added: “If Sars-CoV-2 comes from an artificial consensus sequence composed of genomes with more than 95 per cent similarity to each other… I would predict that we will never find a really good match in nature and just a bunch of close matches across parts of the sequence, which so far is what we are seeing.

“The problem is that those opposed to a lab leak scenario will always just say that we need to sample more, and absence of evidence isn’t evidence of absence. Scientists overall are afraid of discussing the issue of the origins due to the political situation. This leaves a small and vocal minority of biased scientists free to spread misinformation.”

The proposal was submitted by the British zoologist Peter Daszak on behalf of a consortium which included Daszak EcoHealth Alliance, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the University of North Carolina and Duke NUS in Singapore.

The plans are in addition to other proposals made in the Darpa documents, including inserting a section into existing viruses to make them more infectious to humans and inoculating wild bats with aerosolised engineered spike proteins from viruses.

Experts said if the ultimate aim of the proposal was to create a pan-coronavirus vaccine, constructing an “ideal” average virus would have been a good starting point.

Mr Daszak, currently a member of the WHO team investigating the pandemic’s origins, was also behind a letter published in The Lancet which dismissed suggestions that Covid did not have a natural origin as a conspiracy theory.

The WHO source said he had struggled to raise the issue of a lab leak with other scientists and had been warned not to go on the record with his concerns.

The proposal team has been approached for comment but had not responded at the time of publication.

    • Nothing speculative: figure it’s been done, will continue, and nothing will stop it.
Together with cognitive warfare that incites domestic divisiveness, the enemy wins without a shot.

  11. Thank you for the deletion. I will let her know that her opinions are no longer welcome here. Nice bit of hypocrisy when you post articles about misinformation and censorship.

    • Will, I’m getting some weird rejections of posts and others are delayed for long, long periods of time.

Sometimes it’s my own security that prevents me from commenting elsewhere. This site requires a great deal more protection. That’s tough enough for professional geeks, let alone our gifted Eeyore.

So please have patience. We’re worth it.

      • Yeah I had a weird rejection of a post earlier as well. But I tried to explain what I think that is. Has to do with an error in dating November 6th Reader’s Links and accidentally publishing it today, then I re-dated it for Nov 6 pushing some comments into the future as it were, and then if people still had the link and tried to comment it would say they are not allowed or something. At least that is the error it gave me.

But yeah also it takes time for posts and comments to publish. That is, as you note, security.

        • Eeyore, I understand, as I am so used to being censored on many sites and unlike her, I make my feelings about such known. I do understand the problems that you have as I know someone who runs a similar although far more blatant website and I wonder how it can continue(Winds of Jihad).
BTW WRT the article I posted I do NOT agree with overtaxing the rich or the corporations but I DO think that they should be taxed the same as the middle and upper working class and that has never been achieved as they use legal loopholes to avoid such and no one seems to care. Add that to such obscenities at “tax havens and Swiss bank accounts” and for once “front teeth” (her nickname ) has it right there but then she does not realize that she is pone of their tools.

          • I don’t know why they tax anyone. Taxes are purely punitive now that all money is fiat. They don’t tax the poor or the really rich. Its just the middle class.

And they invent the money they want for the programs they make to destroy us in every other way. So the whole question of taxation is moot I think, since they don’t need the money back from us at all.

  12. Austrian prosecutors target Kurz in bribery investigation

VIENNA, Oct 6 (Reuters) – Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has been placed under investigation on suspicion of bribery and breach of trust, anti-corruption prosecutors said on Wednesday after raids on the offices of Kurz’s conservative party and several top aides.

The investigation, which prosecutors confirmed hours after raids on the Chancellery, Finance Ministry and the offices of Kurz’s party, is a fresh political threat to Kurz, whom anti-corruption prosecutors placed under investigation separately in May on suspicion of perjury. read more

Kurz and his People’s Party (OVP) dismissed the investigation as politically motivated.

The suspicion in this investigation is that, starting in 2016 when Kurz was foreign minister and seeking to become party leader, and later as he became chancellor, the conservative-led Finance Ministry paid for advertisements in a newspaper in exchange for polling and coverage favourable to him.

“The Prosecutors’ Office for Economic Affairs and Corruption has placed Sebastian Kurz and nine others as well as three organisations under investigation on suspicion of breach of trust … corruption … and bribery …, partly with different levels of involvement,” the office said in a statement.

The early morning raids took place at locations including the homes and Chancellery desks of three senior Kurz aides.

“I am convinced that these accusations, too, will prove to be false,” Kurz said in a brief statement, adding that text-message exchanges had been taken out of context to “construct” a case against him.

OVP Deputy Chairwoman Gaby Schwarz dismissed the raid on its headquarters as “political staging” aimed at achieving a “show effect” to harm both Kurz and the party. The OVP has repeatedly accused anti-corruption prosecutors of bias against it and Kurz, which prosecutors’ and judges’ organisations deny.

That reaction exposed tensions in the ruling coalition between Kurz’s conservatives and the left-wing Greens, who campaigned on “clean politics” and have avoided saying how far they will support Kurz if the cases against him progress.

“The accusation of show politics is an empty one simply because a judge’s approval is required for this instrument, namely carrying out a raid as part of an investigation,” Greens leader and Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler told a news conference, adding that prosecutors should be able to keep working freely.

Tabloid daily Oesterreich, which Austrian media identified as the newspaper at the centre of the investigation, issued a statement earlier on Wednesday denying taking state money for advertising in exchange for publishing polling.

Without naming the newspaper, prosecutors said they suspect that from 2016 until at least 2018 Finance Ministry funds paid for party-politically motivated and sometimes manipulated polling that was published in the newspaper, and that some of those under investigation could influence what was reported.

Kurz took over as OVP leader in May 2017 and led his party to an election victory later that year.

Finance Minister Gernot Bluemel told a news conference the investigation related to a time before he took office last year and he was not a target. Kurz was due to appear on ORF TV’s evening news at 10 p.m. (2000 GMT).

Austria’s three main opposition parties called for a special session of the lower house of parliament to address the investigation and called on Kurz to resign.

The U.S. government is reportedly secretly issuing warrants for Google to provide user data on anyone typing in certain search terms, raising fears that innocent online users could get caught up in serious crime investigations at a greater frequency than previously thought.

In an attempt to track down criminals, federal investigators have started using new “keyword warrants” and used them to ask Google to provide them information on anyone who searched a victim’s name or their address during a particular year, an accidentally unsealed court document that Forbes found shows.

On Saturday, Sinema was hounded and followed by illegal alien activists with the group Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA), demanding amnesty for the 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the United States.

LUCHA is listed as a partner of the Center for Popular Democracy which is funded to the sum of millions of dollars every year by Soros’s Open Society Foundation.

In 2019, alone, the LUCHA-tied Center for Popular Democracy was granted nearly $2.3 million from Soros’s Open Society Foundation. In 2018, the Soros organization spent more than $2.1 million on grants funding projects for the Center for Popular Democracy.

Senate Democrats have twice sought to slip an amnesty for illegal aliens into their $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package. The Senate Parliamentarian has rejected both of their amnesty plans though they are seeking out a third and fourth option.
