Reader’s Links for August 6, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  5. SKY NEWS UK – COVID-19: Delta infections may produce similar virus levels regardless of vaccination status, early analysis suggests

Dr Simon Clarke, a microbiology professor, says the early findings are a “big deal” but more work is needed to confirm them and find a definitive answer.

Coronavirus levels in people with the Delta variant may be similar regardless of whether or not they’ve been vaccinated – and it could have implications for infectiousness, early analysis suggests.

Public Health England’s (PHE) said initial findings suggested “levels of virus in those who become infected with Delta having already been vaccinated may be similar to levels found in unvaccinated people”.

“This may have implications for people’s infectiousness, whether they have been vaccinated or not,” it added.

It stressed it was “early exploratory analysis” and that more targeted studies were needed to give confirmation.

Sky’s health correspondent Ashish Joshi said PHE’s language was cautionary with a number of caveats such as “early exploratory findings”.

But he said if the findings are confirmed, it could have” huge implications for transmissibility” as “data has consistently shown the vaccine slows down and should, effectively, stop the spread of the virus”.

Dr Simon Clarke, a microbiology professor at Reading University, told Sky News the early findings were a “big deal”.

“We’ll need more studies to find a definitive answer,” he said.

“But if the vaccine only blocks transmission by, say, 50% you’ll never get herd immunity even with a 100% vaccine uptake.”

The Delta variant, which originated in India, remains dominant in the UK and accounts for approximately 99% of cases, said PHE in its latest variant briefing.

New hospitalisation data confirm again that vaccines, while providing high levels of protection, are not 100% effective.

Of recent admissions for the virus, 808 (55.1%) were unvaccinated, while 512 (34.9%) had received both doses of a vaccine, said PHE.

“We must also remember that the vaccines do not eliminate all risk: it is still possible to become unwell with COVID and infect others,” said Dr Jenny Harries, head of the UK Health Security Agency.

An update on a recent “variant under investigation” was also given by PHE.

VUI-21JUL-01, or B.1.621, was flagged up by the health body on 21 July after apparently spreading to several countries and also producing mutations.

There were 37 confirmed cases in England by 4 August, said PHE.

Cases have been detected across six English regions, with most in London.

“There is preliminary laboratory evidence to suggest that vaccination and previous infection may be less effective at preventing infection with VUI-21JUL-01,” said PHE.

“However, this data is very limited and more research is required. There is no evidence to suggest that VUI-21JUL-01 is more transmissible than the dominant Delta variant.”

PHE has currently identified four variants of concern (VOCs) and 10 variants under investigation (VUIs).

The variant update comes as figures suggest coronavirus infection rates have fallen in all home nations apart from Northern Ireland.

In the week ending 31 July, approximately one in 75 people in private households in England (722,300 positive cases) were estimated to have had COVID-19.

This compares with one in 65 people (865,200) the previous week.

Dozens of Israelis gathered late Saturday in Tel Aviv’s Habima Square to protest against calls by the authorities for all citizens to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Most of the new coronavirus cases are of the fast-spreading delta variant, which has also spread among the vaccinated.

    • paul j watson –Swedish Professor Says 5 Shots of COVID Vaccine May be Necessary

FDA already preparing to approve 3rd “booster shot” for September.

While many people have bragged about being “fully vaccinated” after taking two COVID-19 jabs, a Swedish professor says that as many as five shots may be needed to combat falling immunity.

“We don’t know how long the vaccine protects against serious illness and death,” said Karolinska Institute Professor Matti Sällberg. “This means that you pick the safe before the unsafe.”

Numerous European countries are planning a 3rd round of COVID “booster shots” in September, and the FDA also indicated that vaccinated individuals will be given another shot in the fall.

However, Sällberg suggests this probably won’t be enough and that “recurring shots” will be necessary.

“After receiving the second dose, the immune response slowly subsides. Within a year, many may have lost their protection. We do not know yet, but if you get a third dose, it will be activated again,” he said. “Biology says that a fading immune response is not unlikely. Then it’s time for a third, fourth, maybe fifth dose”.

One wonders whether Sällberg holds a conflict of interest given that he is also chairman of the board at vaccine company SVF.

Meanwhile, in Israel, a doctor warned that “the effectiveness of the vaccine is waning/fading out” and that “85-90% of the hospitalizations are in fully vaccinated people.”

Dr. Kobi Haviv also chillingly pointed out that 95% of the patients in hospital with the most severe symptoms are vaccinated.

The meme below is already coming true, and with vaccine passports seemingly on the way, people will have to keep taking recurring vaccinations simply to maintain access to basic lifestyle activities.

Whether vaccine side-effects or the hassle of continually having to return for more jabs will put some people off remains to be seen.

    Crisis in Iran and Cuba.

Iran’s new president, Ebrahim Raisi, has not even been sworn in yet, but tensions both within Iran and around the Middle East are ratcheting up a in serious way. Protests that began in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan Province over electricity blackouts and water shortages amidst the worst drought in 50 years have now spread nationwide. The Iranian people are in the streets in many of the country’s major cities, including the capital, Tehran. They have been massing in the streets and closing major roads and highways. Many Iranians blame regime corruption and mismanagement for the severe lack of electricity and water during the worst of the region’s blistering summer heat. In fact, Iran’s hydroelectric system is near collapse. And while Iranians first took to the streets of Khuzestan to protest the water shortage, their chants now are calling for the fall of the regime itself (“Death to the Islamic Republic”) and “Death to Khamenei!”, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

The timing of these protests coincides with the elevation of Ebrahim Raisi to the presidency, with his inauguration scheduled for Thursday, 5 August 2021. Raisi’s June “selection” was openly arranged by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a presidential campaign and voting that was boycotted in protest by most of the Iranian electorate. Raisi rose to power in the ranks of the judiciary and was the Judiciary Chief before being tapped as Iran’s next president. He is known and reviled for his savage violations of human rights, especially in his role on the Death Commission that sent tens of thousands of Iranian prisoners, many of them belonging to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), to their executions in 1988. In typical fashion – and likely preview of Raisi’s presidential role as the regime’s enforcer — Tehran has unleashed its security forces against the people, using live fire against demonstrators, disrupting Internet service, and carrying out sweeping arrests.

Russia assists the Syrians in intercepting four missiles fired by Israeli F-16s at targets in Syria.
Fri Aug 6, 2021 Caroline Glick

Last Thursday it was reported that the Israel Defense Forces is planning to change its tactics in Syria and will base its operations against Iranian targets in the area on long-range standoff munitions rather than on airstrikes. Obviously, the move will downgrade Israel’s operational prowess.

The report of Israel’s new policy of restraint followed the big story of the week: Russia’s announcement that for the first time, it had assisted the Syrians in intercepting four missiles fired by Israeli F-16s at targets in Syria.

Russia’s statement came in tandem with its announcement that it is abrogating its 2015 agreement with Israel to coordinate and deconflict Israel’s military operations in Syria from Russian forces in the country.

For Jerusalem, Russia’s decision is a major strategic blow.

The agreement in question was initiated almost immediately after Russian military forces first deployed to Syria in September 2015. Immediately after the Russians began setting up shop in Israel’s hostile neighbor to the north, then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Russia to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Two of the co-founders of Time’s Up, an anti-harassment group created in response to the #MeToo Movement, helped New York governor Andrew Cuomo’s office draft a letter to discredit a woman who accused him of sexual assault, according to a report by the state attorney general.

State attorney general Letitia James issued a 165- page report on Tuesday, the culmination of a months-long investigation into sexual-harassment allegations against the governor. James found that Cuomo sexually harassed eleven women, including current and former state employees, in violation of state and federal law.

The report details how Cuomo and a group of advisers drafted a letter in December 2020 to attack the credibility of Lindsey Boylan, the governor’s former aide who was the first to come forward with an accusation. Boylan said Cuomo sexually harassed her and created a toxic work environment.
