Reader’s Links for June 26, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has apologised after photographs published in the Sun newspaper showed him kissing his adviser in his office, a clear breach of Covid rules at the time.

Gina Coladangelo, an old university friend, had been appointed as an aide last year and placed on the board of Mr Hancock’s department.

The prime minister, who Dominic Cummings revealed had called Mr Hancock “totally hopeless” last year, says the matter is closed.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has accepted an apology from Health Secretary Matt Hancock after pictures emerged of him kissing an advisor in breach of his own rules on social distancing.

Boris Johnson says he considers the matter closed but the opposition have called for Mr Hancock’s resignation.

Mr Hancock, who is married, was snapped kissing Gina Coladangelo but UK COVID-19 laws state if the activity is not reasonably necessary it is against the law.

In a statement Mr Hancock said he accepted he “breached the social distancing guidance” and apologised for the act.

The health secretary faces a penalty notice or unlimited fine if he is found to have broken the law.

  1. BBC – Mariam Thompson, love-struck US army linguist, jailed for 23 years

A US military linguist has been jailed for 23 years for passing classified information to a foreign national linked to the Lebanese Islamist militant group Hezbollah.

Mariam Thompson, 62, admitted sharing the names of US informants in Iraq to a man she was romantically linked with.

She said she had been “desperate” for “someone to love me in my old age” and did not set out to harm anyone.

Prosecutors said she knew she was putting US sources and troops at risk.

“Thompson’s sentence reflects the seriousness of her violation of the trust of the American people, of the human sources she jeopardised and of the troops who worked at her side as friends and colleagues,” John Demers, head of the Justice Department’s national security division, said on Wednesday.

A Lebanon-born US citizen, Thompson worked as a contract linguist at an overseas US military facility, where she was entrusted with a top-secret government security clearance.

During this posting in 2017, she became romantically involved with a man who said he had ties to Hezbollah and the Lebanese government, prosecutors said.

A Shia Islamist political party and militant group, Hezbollah wields considerable power in Lebanon and has close relations with Iran.

Over time, Thompson developed a close relationship with the man, whom she communicated with on secure video and messaging apps.

Prosecutors said US military operations in Iraq prompted Thompson to turn over sensitive information to the man in 2020.

In December 2019, while Thompson was assigned to a Special Operations Task Force facility in Iraq, the US had launched a series of air strikes in Iraq targeting Kataib Hezbollah, a US-designated foreign terrorist organisation.

Then, in January 2020, the US launched another air strike that resulted in the death of Qasem Soleimani, Iran’s most powerful military commander at the time.

Soon after this, Thompson’s love interest approached her for information on who had helped the US target Soleimani.

Acting on this request, the linguist handed over dozens of files about intelligence sources, which she accessed on US military computer systems.

Thompson provided her co-conspirator with the identities of at least eight sources, at least 10 US targets, and multiple tactics, techniques and procedures.

Thompson was arrested by FBI agents at an overseas US base in February 2020. She was charged with violating espionage laws a month later.

In court, prosecutors argued for a 30-year sentence given the “real threats” Thompson’s leaks posed.

Thompson pleaded for leniency, telling the court she did not intend to hurt American soldiers or “do damage to our national security”.

“I just wanted to have someone to love me in my old age, and because I was desperate for that love I forgot who I was for a short period of time,” Thompson was quoted as saying by the Washington Post newspaper.

District Judge John Bates gave her a shorter sentence of 23 years, saying it reflected the seriousness of the offences, but took into account she was a sympathetic individual.

“This case should serve as a clear reminder to all of those entrusted with national defence information that unilaterally disclosing such information for personal gain, or that of others, is not selfless or heroic; it is criminal,” said Alan Kohler Jr, assistant director of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division.

    • 23 years is probably a life sentence for her, but does not make a strong enough statement. Her training requires her to report contacts, not make them. Can the contractor for not properly vetting and monitoring its employees!

The prophecies and morals of Star Trek: The Next Generation
Posted on June 21, 2021 by Bookworm
Some old episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation seem eerily prophetic when seen through the prism of America in 2021.

Because I spend all day, every day, reading politics (and I’m not complaining but just stating a fact), when I have downtime, I want to engage in fairly minimal brain activity. To that end, I have of late been watching Star Trek: The Next Generation (“ST:TNG”) I missed all of the first season and some of the second season back in 1987 and 1988. So, unless I caught those episodes on reruns, this is the first time I’ve seen many of them. Additionally, even the ones I’m pretty sure I’ve seen before, I don’t remember. (With a memory like mine, watching old shows is like watching them for the first time.)

What’s so amazing is how some of these episodes seem very prophetic. Others, despite the show’s central leftist conceit (that the Federation through science is able to provide for the needs of all people), reveal conservative themes. I’ll discuss just three episodes. There are lots of spoilers here so stop reading if you intend to watch ST:TNG yourself.

In Symbiosis, the enterprise rescues four passengers and their cargo from a ship that then explodes. All four passengers come from the same system. Two of them come from a planet suffering from a terrible plague. The other two from a planet that has a valuable medicine that will treat the plague. The two parties fight over the medicine, with those from the plague planet saying they paid for it and are entitled to it and those from the medicine planet claiming that, because the payment was lost when the ship disintegrated, the medicine reverts to them.

The denouement reveals that the medicine is, in fact, a powerful narcotic. The people on the plague planet have no plague; they’re just addicts. The drug sellers knew this but benefitted hugely from encouraging the addiction.

Maybe I was reaching, but this made me think of the way the Democrat power class (tech tyrants, politicians, media) used COVID as a means to make leftists utterly dependent on masks, lockdowns, government guidance, and welfare. As with the plague on the ST:TNG episode, the disease vanished but the dependence continued.

In The Child, the ship’s counselor, Deanna Troi, is impregnated by a ball of light, leading to this moment:

The senior officers meet to discuss the pregnancy. The fetus is developing at an accelerated rate and would be fully developed in 36 hours. Troi does not know who the father is, but was aware of a “presence” entering her body the night before. Though the senior staff debate terminating the pregnancy, Troi decides she will carry the child to term.

    Here’s the short dialog:

    Counselor Deanna Troi: Captain.

[the senior officers abruptly stop their discussion and focus on Counselor Troi]

Counselor Deanna Troi: Do whatever you feel is necessary to protect the ship and the crew. But know this: I’m going to have this baby!

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Then it would seem that the discussion, is over.

The episode then has a rapturous birth scene that sees all the characters reveling in the new life.

There is only one way to understand this episode: It is pro-life. It recognizes that the fetus has an inherent value. I’m sure that’s not what the creators meant to do, but it’s what they ended up doing anyway.

In addition to the mystical pregnancy, the crew is struggling to get on board some extremely dangerous virus samples that need to be transferred to a medical station seeking a possible cure for a plague epidemic. Although the samples are stored in an ostensibly supersafe container, the container’s integrity breaks down. One of the viruses is growing and will soon break out, killing everyone on board.

That whole subplot seemed awfully like a Wuhan prophecy. Because the USS Enterprise had to survive beyond this episode, though, everyone figured out that Troi’s child was causing the system to break down. Because he was a good alien, not a bad one, he left the ship, preventing a viral breakout.

In The Royale, Riker, Worf, and Data find themselves on an otherwise unlivable planet trapped in a 1980s-style casino. They learn that aliens, having somehow rescued a late 21st century NASA astronaut found a pulp novel on his ship and concluded that this was the way his life had been. In a diary they discover, the NASA astronaut writes (emphasis mine):

“I write this in the hope that it will someday be read by human eyes. I can only surmise at this point, but apparently, our exploratory shuttle was contaminated by an alien life form, which infected and killed all personnel except myself. I awakened to find myself here in the Royale Hotel, precisely as described in the novel I found in my room. And for the last 38 years, I have survived here. I have come to understand that the alien contaminators created this place for me out of some sense of guilt, presuming that the novel we had on board the shuttle about the Hotel Royale was, in fact, a guide to our preferred lifestyle and social habits. Obviously they thought that this was the world from which I came. I hold no malice toward my benefactors. They could not possibly know the hell that they have put me through. For it was such a badly-written book, filled with endless cliché and shallow characters… I shall welcome death when it comes.“

I couldn’t help comparing that language to Andrew Stiles’ hilarious review of Bill Clinton’s latest novel, which seems like a cliched, overblown thriller. Judging by the review, the novel is a shockingly trite “thriller” complete with characters named “Trask Floyd, Randy Grambler, Coleman Pelletier, Bruce Hardy, Rollie Spruce, and so on.”

There are some aspects of the novel, though, that Stiles says are interesting. For one thing, you do get Bill’s true feelings about Hillary, for his alter ego is a former president who is separated from his wife. This is how Bill describes his “fictional” wife, accordingly to Stiles:

Hillary Samantha carries herself with a “familiar steel showing through her smile for an old grudge” that she will “never, ever forget.” She is ready to move on from “those wasted hours and days and weeks being First Lady and pretending to care.” By the end of the book, she has exerted her dominance over Pamela Barnes, the backstabbing VP who went on to become the first female president in history, unlike a certain real-life politician who so desperately coveted that distinction.

Additionally, and somewhat surprisingly, Bill has nothing but disdain for wokeness or China:

The President’s Daughter will never be a Hollywood film, but that might be its most endearing quality. It is decidedly anti-woke, refreshingly problematic. Keating’s daughter, Melanie, is appalled by her Dartmouth classmates, whose “ignorance and apathy about the real world” enable them to “drone on and on about how the real roots of terrorism were poverty, despair, and inequality.” Characters pray to God and quote the Bible. Then there’s Jiang Lijun, the sadistic and openly racist Chinese intelligence officer who pals around with terrorists.

But back to that ST:TNG episode: The flag on the NASA astronaut’s uniform has 52 stars. Considering that the Democrats want to add Puerto Rico and D.C. as states and that Sen. Joe Manchin’s position on the filibuster seems to be for sale, let’s hope this wasn’t one of ST:TNG’s more prophetic episodes.

Please note that, if you were wondering, my point about the show being prophetic is, of course, tongue in cheek. However, it’s fascinating to see how plots and subplots, as well as throwaway lines (most of which I’ve forgotten), seem eerily applicable to the world in which we live.

M Do not be too confident here. Those involved are just as susceptible to blackmail, and threats as anyone else(SCOTUS etc ad infin.) and there is far too much hanging on this. These are NORMAL people with no means of protecting their families from Arkancide threats and we all know that the Left have absolutely no qualms about their actions and no ethics at all.
If it proves no illegality then it would be interesting to look at the incoming phone call records for those involved. The way that juries, judges and even the supreme court collapsed without a whimper makes me ultra cautious.

Earlier this afternoon, volunteers slammed a box closed and cheered in celebration after the final ballots were inspected.
    Advertisement – story continues below

TGP reported that the results will be released in two phases:
1.) On Monday we may see a preliminary report, which details the accuracy of the number of certified ballots.
2.) We then expect to see a full forensic report which details the forensic images and ballot findings.
    Advertisement – story continues below

    This is HUGE.

On Monday, we will know the true number of ballots that were cast in Maricopa County. If it is drastically different than the number of certified ballots, as expected with the discrepancies found, there will be severe consequences for Doug Ducey and Katie Hobbs.

The Arizona State Senate will need to consider decertifying the results if they cannot prove that Biden was the winner. Attorney General Mark Brnovich will need to initiate an investigation into those involved in the scam and the cover-up.

Eric Greitens says that decertification is the next step and the freight train will continue with even more steam.

Since the beginning, audit officials have been reporting significant discrepancies in the total number of ballots.

This was just one of many issues encountered along the way as it seems county officials have done everything in their power to prevent this audit from finding the truth. Since day one, legislative subpoenas for Dominion routers and passwords have been violated and it leaves us wondering why.

On Monday, We will have the accurate total number of ballots that were received during Maricopa County’s 2020 election.
    Will the totals add up?

Finally, Signs of Intelligent Life on Earth: Swiss Voters Reject Climate Change
    From Mish Shedlock at

Eurointelligence reports Swiss Reject Climate Change:

After Switzerland dropped its negotiations with the EU, the country has now rejected a climate-protection law in a referendum. Concretely, they rejected all three parts of the law in separate votes: on CO2, on pesticides, and on drinking water.

We agree with the Swiss journalist Mathieu von Rohr that this failure is not merely important in its own right, but symptomatic for the difficulties facing Green politics in general. It is one thing for people to pretend they support the Green party, especially when it is cool to do so. It is quite another to make actual sacrifices as the Swiss were asked to do.

But what is particularly interesting about this referendum is that the strongest opposition came from young people. 60-70% of the 18-34 year old voted No in the three categories.

Each country is different, but the big yet unanswered question is whether people elsewhere would agree to make personal sacrifices for the greater good. The Swiss referendum tells us we should not take this for granted. The German elections will be the next big test.

The referendum Failed 51-49. And it took a crushing rejection by Zoomers and millennials to do it.

Gen. Michael Flynn: “Something Is Going to Happen. They Must Create Noise Before the Arizona Audit. They’re Going to Have to Do Something” (VIDEO)

General Michael Flynn and Patrick Byrne joined Steel Truth podcast with Patrick Byrne earlier this week. During the discussion, the host, Ann Vandersteel, suggested that there may be a false flag event coming soon to take the attention away from the soon-to-be-released results from the Arizona Audit. The Marxist horde will need a shiny object to occupy the public’s attention when the truth explodes from Arizona on the fraud in the 2020 election.

General Michael Flynn: Yeah, there is going to be something that is going to happen and I’m afraid that what it’s going to do is it’s going to further divide the country. It’s not going to be as dramatic as something you’re talking about with 9-11 and the stupidity, and this nonsense of UFOs and this apocalyptic crap is such garbage. People need to face reality. We need to face reality. They are going to continue to go after Donald Trump. OK? They’re going to continue to go after Donald Trump. And I’m glad to see the president finally getting out and doing rallies. He’s going to be doing one in Sarasota here on the 4th of July. I think he’s going to up in Ohio on Saturday. So he’s going to get back out and he’s going to light the world on fire. Because I know they are going to go after him. And whenever they go after him it’s never pretty. It’s going to be ugly and that creates a lot of media attraction and everybody has to cover it. What does it mean? What is it going to do? And it keeps everybody off of the election fraud. As I said at the beginning of the show, now repeat after me, the 2020 presidential election was stolen. There is no doubt in my mind anymore. There is none… And the truth will continue to come out. Something is going to happen. I don’t think we’re going to have to wait until the end of summer. I think it’s going to happen here fairly soon…because they must create noise prior to the Arizona audit starting to really bubble out. They are gonna have to do somethin

In Germany, a suspect is in custody after a mass stabbing. Three people died from their wounds and at least five others were seriously injured. Police say they are investigating a possible Islamist terror motive.

Witnesses said the man shouted the Islamic phrase “Allahu Akbar.”

The attack took place in the southern state of Bavaria – in a plaza in the center of the city of Würzburg. Pedestrians tried to stop the attacker and may have prevented more bloodshed.

The knifeman struck in the historic center of Würzburg, which was crowded with shoppers on a sunny afternoon.

Authorities say the attacker was a 24-year-year old Somali man with a history of mental illness.

Witnesses said he started stabbing people for no apparent reason – but was confronted by passers-by.

Police shot the man in the leg before arresting him.

reuters – Germany knife attack VICTIMS WERE ALL WOMEN -police

WUERZBURG, Germany, June 26 (Reuters) – Authorities in Germany were investigating on Saturday what prompted a man to go on the rampage with a knife in the town of Wuerzberg on Friday, killing three women and seriously injuring five other women.

Officials said the suspect, whose rampage was halted when police arrested him, was a 24-year-old Somali immigrant who had had mental health problems in the past. As is the practice in Germany, they did not name him.

Officials assume the suspect was acting alone, but are still investigating whether there was any Islamist motive for the attack, regional Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann told a news conference.

Herrmann cited one witness as saying that before starting his spree the suspect had shouted “Allahu akbar”, an Arabic phrase that means “God is great” and that is often associated with acts of Islamist militancy when used by attackers.

“The indications of radicalisation, in this case Islamism, and of psychological problems do not necessarily rule one another out … this must be the subject of further investigation,” Herrmann said.

The man went into the kitchen department of a store and asked an assistant where the knives were, regional police president Gerhard Kallert said. He seized a knife and stabbed and killed the saleswoman and two more women in the shop.

He then injured five other women seriously, as well as wounding a child, in a bank and on the street.

He was cornered by passers-by before the police shot him in the thigh, Kallert said.

Police found the man’s phone and pamphlets with hateful messages during a search of the homeless shelter, but were still evaluating them, Kallert said, adding that it was not yet clear whether the suspect had purposefully targeted women.

One of the injured was still fighting for her life, while two had been released from hospital, police president Martin Wilhelm told the news conference.

Residents laid flowers and candles outside the store.

The suspect had lived in Wuerzburg since 2015, the year Germany opened its borders to more than a million migrants and refugees fleeing war and poverty.

He was registered as living at a facility for the homeless and had twice this year been put into compulsory psychiatric treatment, once after a fight with fellow residents involving a knife but no injuries, prosecutor Wolfgang Gruendler said.

Five years ago, Wuerzburg, an ancient city of 130,000 people some 100 km (62 miles) south-east of Frankfurt, was the scene of a knife attack on a train by a 17-year-old Pakistani asylum seeker in which five people were injured, two seriously.

Wuerzburg knife killer had ‘ISIS propaganda,’ may have been motivated by jihad – report
The knifeman who killed three people and injured six more in Wuerzburg, Germany may have been motivated by jihad. According to the Bild tabloid, the Somali attacker had read ISIS propaganda before his rampage.
Police in Wuerzburg, Bavaria shot and arrested a 24-year-old Somali man on Friday after he stabbed three people to death and injured six others, two seriously. The killer reportedly took a knife from a department store and immediately began attacking those around him, and according to witnesses he shouted “Allahu Akbar” during his stabbing spree.
Bild reported on Saturday that, although he was not known to authorities as an extremist, the attacker had made stabbing threats back in January, and police had gotten involved. Bild also reported that a search of the homeless shelter in which he was living revealed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) propaganda in a garbage can, apparently discarded by the suspect before his attack.
After the incident, the 24-year-old apparently said that he had achieved his “jihad,” per an official note reportedly seen by Bild.
Officials have not yet ascribed a motive to the attack. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann told reporters on Friday that the knifeman was mentally ill, and had previously been “forcibly committed to psychiatric treatment.”
Should the attack be ruled an Islamist one, it would be the second such incident in Wuerzburg in five years. Back in 2016, an Afghan asylum seeker stabbed and injured four people with a knife and a hatchet on a train near the Bavarian city. Police shot the attacker dead, and investigators later discovered that he had been in contact with members of IS, and told them that he expected to become a “martyr.”

    According to Firearm Chronicles

The state of Missouri passed its own sanctuary state bill, one that is tougher than just about any other measure in the nation. It doesn’t just bar local police from enforcing federal laws, it allows people to file a lawsuit if the police ignore the law.

I see it has ultimately a good thing, mostly because any law that lacks teeth isn’t much of a law in the first place.

However, some law enforcement officers likely feel quite differently. One, in particular, felt it strongly enough to quit.

O’Fallon, Missouri, Police Chief Philip Dupuis announced his resignation from the Department effective today. City Administrator Mike Snowden accepted Chief Dupuis’ resignation and named Major John Neske as the acting chief.

“We are sorry to see Chief Dupuis leave, but we understand why he has made this decision,” said Mayor Hennessy. “In his short time here, Chief Dupuis has made a tremendous impact on our Police Department. I am grateful to him and wish him the best, and I am confident that the brave men and women of the Department will continue to provide the highest levels of service to our community under the leadership of Acting Chief Neske.”

Chief Dupuis expressed concern over the poor wording and future unintended consequences of House Bill 85, citing that as the main reason for his sudden departure from the department. House Bill 85 was designed to protect the Second Amendment right to bear arms of Missouri Citizens and was recently signed into law by Governor Mike Parson. It creates a civil cause of action for when any law enforcement or municipal officer acts in a way that infringes on those rights. This provision is what concerns Chief Dupuis.

Dupuis claims he’s a firm supporter of the Second Amendment, but feels that he can’t do his job without sovereign immunity protecting him from civil lawsuits when he goes beyond what he’s legally allowed to do.

Much of this stems from the fact that the law in Missouri doesn’t draw a line on which federal laws are OK to enforce. Confiscating a gun from a felon, for example, would arguably open an officer up to a lawsuit, at least to hear critics tell it.

(Richard: We can do without police officers who think they can break the law and not be punished.)

  14. Rioting in Portland on Thursday Night After Police Shooting — Turned out They Shot a White Guy, So Everyone Left

by Patriot Outlook about 19 hours ago

The headline is absurd, but so are things the way they happen in . What a screwed-up place.

On Thursday afternoon officers of the Bureau were involved in a shooting incident at a downtown location.

The early rumors were that the subject was a “person of color” — spread by BLM to drive up rioter numbers. No better excuse exists to kick off the night’s rioting on streets before sunset so in pretty much no time at all you had hostile encounters between trying to maintain the perimeter of an active crime-scene investigation, and ‘s professional riot class, also known as the unemployed loser population.

Our good friend Andy Ngo was able to aggregate much video footage from the evening’s events.

The confrontations between the and protesters continued into the nighttime hours.

Then came the tragic news that no one was expecting.

The white man shot by the black officer later died at a -area .

Antifa and BLM went home happy about some great work they had been able to celebrate together.

Kim Jong-un’s Sister Becomes New Biggest Enemy of Joe Biden

( – The United States has anxiously awaited any hint that North Korea would be open to negotiations over the country’s nuclear program. But, Kim Yo Jong, younger sister to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, just shut down any hopes for such a discussion between her nation and the Biden administration.

Last week, Kim Jong-un alluded to a possibility of dialogue with the United States, and US National Security adviser Jake Sullivan responded publicly saying the leader was sending an “interesting signal.”

However, on Tuesday, June 22, Kim Yo Jong was quoted by the official Korean Central News Agency decrying the US interpretation of Kim’s words, saying our nation was trying to “seek a comfort for itself.” She noted that Sullivan’s stated “expectation…would plunge them into a greater disappointment.”

The Associated Press also reported on the story:

This blunt statement has put Kim Yo Jong at the top of the list of President Joe Biden’s greatest enemies. Our president faces an uphill battle towards making our world a safer and less tense place. Only a stern, unfaltering, and firm response to North Korea and its harsh comments will keep the dangerous nation from thinking it can push us around.

Iran’s President Refuses to Meet With Biden in Ultimate Power Move

( – Iran has a new incoming president: current Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raisi. But, to no one’s surprise, this new leader does not plan on making things easy for President Joe Biden. This week, the Iranian president-elect said he will not negotiate or even meet with President Biden about his country’s ballistic missile program or military and militia forces.

On Monday, June 21, president-elect Raisi held a press conference to celebrate his landslide victory in the election. He declared that “the US is obliged to lift all oppressive sanctions against Iran” and noted that his stance on the missile program and support of militias in neighboring regions is “non-negotiable.”

Looking at Raisi’s record, this hard-line against the US is not surprising. He is a protégé of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and was known to be involved in the mass execution of around 5,000 people in 1988. Raisi defended his action, saying he was a “defender of human rights.”

International lawyer and human rights activist Hillel Neuer was understandably dismayed at the news of Raisi’s victory:

Raisi’s hard stance on lifting sanctions will put President Biden and the White House to the test. Hopefully, our president is able to navigate this new international relationship with strength and finesse to keep our nation, and our world, safe.

  19. Manhattan prosecutors consider ‘highly unusual’ criminal charges against Trump Organization

    4-5 minutes

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers were informed Friday that the Manhattan district attorney’s office is considering criminal charges against the Trump Organization related to fringe benefits the company awarded a top executive, the New York Times reported.

District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr., who has led a three-year probe into Trump’s business dealings with assistance from New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office, could file the charges against the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg as early as next week, if he chooses to seek an indictment.

The potential charges would include whether Trump’s company properly recorded and paid taxes on benefits Weisselberg and other executives received, like tens of thousands of dollars in private school tuition for one of his grandchildren, rents on apartments, and car leases.

According to the Times, prosecutors have been building a case against Weisselberg for months in an attempt to pressure him to cooperate with the investigation into the former president. As a longtime Trump Organization employee, Weisselberg is assumed to have inside knowledge about Trump’s dealings that could prove useful to investigators seeking to prove that the former president or his employees committed a crime.
