Reader’s Links for June 13, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

While the U.S. media are transfixed by a phantom Iranian “flotilla” (yes, we’ll get to that in a separate article), something at least as interesting, and perhaps more so, is happening in the Pacific.

A Russian navy task force is conducting the largest and farthest-flung exercise in its history in the Central Pacific Ocean. The admiral in command of the task force, Rear Admiral Konstantin Kabantsov, acknowledged as much in a statement quoted by Krasnaya Zvezda (“Red Star”), the flagship of the Russian military’s public communications service (emphasis added):

An Oxfam staff training document says “privileged white women” are supporting the root causes of sexual violence by wanting “bad men” imprisoned.

In the wake of sex scandals that have rocked the charity, Oxfam has produced guidance which states that: “Mainstream feminism centres on privileged white women and demands that ‘bad men’ be fired or imprisoned.”

Accompanied by a cartoon of a crying white woman, it adds that this “legitimises criminal punishment, harming black and other marginalised people.”

Oxfam said that the training was voluntary, and the views are not presented as its own but designed to help staff understand the issues. However, the charity was warned on Wednesday night that the document, compiled by its LGBT network and seen by The Telegraph, could breach equality laws as it suggests reporting rape is “contemptible.”

The four-week “learning journey” recommends that staff read Me Not You: The Trouble with Mainstream Feminism, a book by Alison Phipps, a professor of gender studies at the University of Sussex.

Summarising the book’s central premise, the Oxfam document says white feminists need to ask themselves whether they are causing harm when they fight sexual violence.

It then links to Prof Phipps’s Twitter account and a thread which summarises the main themes of the book, including: “White feminist tears deploy white woundedness, and the sympathy it generates, to hide the harms we perpetuate through white supremacy.”

Naomi Cunningham, a discrimination and employment law barrister, says the document may breach the Equality Act, which bans harassment in the workplace on the basis of sex.

“The message seems to be that a woman who reports a rape or sexual assault to the police and presses charges is a contemptible ‘white feminist’,” said Ms Cunningham. “I think any woman could make an arguable case that this has created or contributed to ‘an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment’, which is how the Equality Act defines harassment.”

She had a Nazi who helped her escape, he was paid dearly. They waited in a tent down by the river bank for a boat that would take her and her sons to safety. He raped her, she slit his throat from ear to ear. She told me this story in a calm voice – – You learn to survive.

Footage proves bats were kept in Wuhan lab

The Wuhan Institute of Virology kept live bats in cages, new footage from inside the facility has revealed, disproving denials from World Health Organisation investigators who claimed the suggestion was a “conspiracy”.</b

An official Chinese Academy of Sciences video to mark the launch of the new biosafety level 4 laboratory in May 2017 speaks about the security precautions that are in place if “an accident” occurs and reveals there had been “intense clashes” with the French Government during the construction of the laboratory.

The video shows bats being held in a cage at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, along with vision of a scientist feeding a bat with a worm.

The 10 minute video is titled “The construction and research team of Wuhan P4 laboratory of Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences” and features interviews with its leading scientists.

The World Health Organisation report investigating the origin of the pandemic failed to mention that any bats had been kept at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and only its annex referred to animals being housed there.

“The animal room in the P4 facility can handle a variety of species, including primate work with SARS-CoV-2,” it states.

A member of the World Health Organisation team investigating the origin of the pandemic in Wuhan, zoologist Peter Daszak said it was a conspiracy to suggest bats were held at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

In one tweet dated December, 2020 he said: “No BATS were sent to Wuhan lab for genetic analysis of viruses collected in the field. That’s now how this science works. We collect bat samples, send them to the lab. We RELEASE bats where we catch them!”

In another tweet, dated December 11, 2020, he said: “This is a widely circulated conspiracy theory. This piece describes work I’m the lead on and labs I’ve collaborated with for 15 years. They DO NOT have live or dead bats in them. There is no evidence anywhere that this happened. It’s an error I hope will be corrected.”

This month, Daszak appeared to retract his earlier denials and admitted the Wuhan Institute of Virology may have housed bats but admitted he had not asked them.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences video was discovered by researchers investigating the origin of the pandemic who call themselves DRASTIC.

Digital archivist “Jesse” found the Chinese Academy of Sciences Video while the group’s co-ordinator, who goes by a pseudonym of “Billy Bostickson” for safety reasons, has long complained evidence bats were housed in the Wuhan laboratories.

The video forms part of the investigation for the book “What Really Happened in Wuhan” which is available for pre-order at Amazon and Booktopia.

Mr Daszak has not responded to requests for comment.

While speaking at a conference in 2018, Wuhan Institute of Virology and collaborator and gain-of-function advocate Dr. Ralph Baric advised attendees on how to “make money” in the next pandemic.

Baric – who’s attended conferences at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and is described by Wuhan’s “bat woman” Shi Zhengli as one of her “longtime collaborators” – made the comments at an April 2018 event hosted at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Baric – who’s described lifting bans on gain-of-function research as “critical” – also provided the Wuhan lab with humanized mice to likely conduct the controversial form of research with SARS-like coronaviruses.

“Gain-of-function represents one of those approaches that is a crucial tool for public health preparedness and response,” Baric asserted in 2014 while lobbying against a moratorium on gain-of-function research.

During his 2018 speech “Imagining the Next Flu Pandemic – and Preventing it!” he presents a slide titled “Global Catastrophe: Opportunities Exist.” The slide outlines what type of stocks and industries surged during the Ebola outbreak, which he uses to extrapolate financial advice on how to “make money in the next pandemic.”

“I wanted to give you good news. There are winners out there, right? So if you ever want to be prepared and make money in the next pandemic, if that’s what you want to do, buy stock in Hazmat suit makers and protective clothing or companies that make antiviral drugs for that particular pandemic,” he notes.

Baric adds that the aforementioned sectors and stocks would “probably do pretty well” before highlighting that “there are actually mutual funds for pandemic preparedness.”

“Some products do well. 1918 including masks, same thing today,” he advises.

While speaking over the following slide – “Pandemics: Opportunity” – Baric posits that “pandemics really are times of opportunity.”

“There is an opportunity for people to have political gain, financial gain, and personal gain during times of social upheaval, and that will probably occur,” he adds.

Ralph Baric, PhD, is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. He is a Harvey Weaver Scholar from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and an Established Investigator Awardee from the American Heart Association. In addition, he is a World Technology Award Finalist and a fellow of the American Association for Microbiology. He has spent the past three decades as a world leader in the study of coronaviruses and is responsible for UNC-Chapel Hill’s world leadership in coronavirus research. For these past three decades, Dr. Baric has warned that the emerging coronaviruses represent a significant and ongoing global health threat, particularly because they can jump, without warning, from animals into the human population, and they tend to spread rapidly.

The Baric Lab uses coronaviruses as models to study the genetics of RNA virus transcription, replication, persistence, pathogenesis, genetics and cross-species transmission. He has used alphavirus vaccine vectors to develop novel candidate vaccines Dr. Baric has led the world in recognizing the importance of zoonotic viruses as a potentially rich source of new emerging pathogens in humans, with detailed studies of the molecular, genetic and evolutionary mechanisms that regulate the establishment and dissemination of such a virus within a newly adopted host. Specifically, he works to decipher the complex interactions between the virion and cell surface molecules that function in the entry and cross-species transmission of positive-strand RNA viruses.

In 2017, 2018 and 2019, Dr. Baric was named to Clarivate Analytics’ Highly Cited Researchers list, which recognizes researchers from around the world who published the most widely-cited papers in their field. Also in 2017, he was awarded a grant for more than $6 million from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to accelerate the development of a promising new drug in the fight against deadly coronaviruses, which is currently in clinical trials to reverse COVID-19 disease in humans. In this collaboration, he continued his partnership between the Gillings School and Gilead Sciences Inc. to focus on an experimental antiviral treatment that he had previously shown to prevent the development of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) in mice. The drug also was shown to inhibit MERS-CoV and multiple other coronaviruses (CoV), suggesting that it may actually inhibit all CoV. He continues to work with this drug.

  10. reuters – Swiss anti-terrorism law worries rights experts

A Swiss law giving the police new powers to fight terrorism could expose people to torture abroad and risks harming children, human rights and legal experts told Reuters ahead of a nationwide referendum on the law.

After a series of attacks in Europe since 2015, Switzerland adopted the law last year to make it easier for the police to monitor and restrict the movement of potential offenders, including children as young as 12.

Opponents succeeded in putting the law to a referendum on June 13, but opinion polls show about two thirds of voters intend to back the law, prompting experts to speak up in a final attempt to stop it.

“When you set up a system in which the federal police initiates and decides without a judicial review at the outset, it’s a Frankenstein brought to life,” Philip Jaffe, psychology professor and member of the United Nations committee of the rights of the child, told Reuters.

Under the law, restraining orders or travel bans can be imposed from the age of 12, house arrest from the age of 15. All measures can be contested in court.

The government says the measures are needed to prevent cases like the one of 15- and 16-year-old siblings who went to Syria in 2014 and were later convicted of supporting Islamic State.

Jaffe said, however, that going after children too hard could radicalise them and innocents targeted by mistake could be psychologically damaged.

Before the law was adopted, around 60 law professors warned it paved the way for arbitrary decisions. United Nations experts said it violated human rights standards.

“The police and the secret service are our watchdogs, it’s their job to be aggressive. That’s why you have to keep them on a leash,” said Nils Melzer, the UN special rapporteur on torture.

He said the sharing of lists of potential terrorists with other countries could lead to individuals travelling abroad being imprisoned or even tortured.

The federal police said no lists will be established based on the new law.

It already compiles a terrorism database which can, in some cases, be shared with foreign authorities, but it only contains information on people involved in criminal proceedings.

In an emailed statement, the Swiss justice ministry and the federal police said social, integration and therapeutic measures were the first choices when dealing with potential terrorist offenders.

Radical opinions alone would not expose an individual to measures under the law, they said, as there had to be “concrete and current indications the person would commit a terrorist act.”

The Federal Intelligence Service said in November it was aware of 49 “risk persons” presenting a threat to Swiss security and was monitoring 690 users of jihadist websites.

swissinfo – Controversial anti-terrorism law wins voter approval

Voters have endorsed a series of measures allowing police to crack down against militant extremists and apply preventive detention, giving Switzerland one of the strictest anti-terrorism legislations in Europe .

Near-final results show the law winning about 57% of the vote in Sunday’s nationwide ballot.

Opponents didn’t succeed in showing the alleged weaknesses of the law according to political scientist Urs Bieri of the GfS Bern research institute. “Voters seem to have expressed their confidence in the government,” he told SRF public radio.

In a first reaction, opponents of the law, including human rights groups, have warned that the law undermines the principle of the rule of law. They pledged to follow closely implementation of the amended regulations.

Several legal experts in Switzerland and representatives of international organisations have warned of the risk of human rights violations and reputational damage for the country if the law passes.

Formal complaints by more than 500 citizens have been handed in against allegedly misleading information by the government in the run-up to the vote.

The government said the new measures, including restraining orders, travel bans and the duty of suspects to report regularly to the authorities, were necessary to prevent terrorist attacks.

The legal amendment is part of existing regulations for the authorities, including provision in the Swiss criminal code, to combat extremism, according to the justice ministry.

An alliance of four political partiesExternal link, mainly with left-wing or liberal leaning, as well as a non-partisan citizens groupsExternal link collected enough signatures to try and veto the law, which was approved by parliament last year.

The legal amendment comes in the wake of several terrorist attacks in Europe since 2015 and is notably aimed at Islamist jihadists.

Two separate knife attacks in western and southern Switzerland last year attracted media attention and caused alarm about security standards.

Israel isn’t the only country that’s having to cope with a US administration threatening to undermine its security.

President Joe Biden last week ordered a senior American diplomat to issue a severe formal rebuke to Britain for the way it is dealing with the European Union over Northern Ireland.

Accordingly, Yael Lempert, the acting head of the US mission to the United Kingdom, issued a diplomatic reprimand to Britain’s Brexit minister, Lord Frost, and delivered a veiled threat that America’s proposed trade deal with Britain depended upon Boris Johnson’s government acceding to Biden’s demands.

The noxiousness of this rebuke — more commonly issued to adversaries than to an ally— doesn’t just derive from America interfering in the policies of a sovereign country. It’s also because, just as with Israel, this interference is based on an ignorant and dangerously partisan view that, under the guise of advancing peace, is in fact a powerful incentive to further violence and aggression.

Ghost attack is described thus in two stages: Stage One: “Commit non-attributable, or feasibly deniable, acts of war that advance your own national power and physically harm your adversaries, but do not fit traditional legal standards to mobilize them to a formal response.” Stage Two: “Then foment chaos, advance the narrative of your innocence, and underline your adversary’s incompetence through information warfare.”

An explosive new study claims that Chinese scientists created COVID-19 in a Wuhan lab, then tried to cover their tracks by reverse-engineering versions of the virus to make it look like it evolved naturally from bats.

The paper’s authors, British Professor Angus Dalgleish and Norwegian scientist Dr. Birger Sørensen, wrote that they have had ‘prima facie evidence of retro-engineering in China’ for a year – but were ignored by academics and major journals.

Dalgleish is a professor of oncology at St George’s University, London, and is best known for his breakthrough creating the first working ‘HIV vaccine’, to treat diagnosed patients and allow them to go off medication for months.

Sørensen, a virologist, is chair of pharmaceutical company, Immunor, which developed a coronavirus vaccine candidate called Biovacc-19. Dalgleish also has share options in the firm.

The shocking allegations in the study include accusations of ‘deliberate destruction, concealment or contamination of data’ at Chinese labs, and it notes the silencing and disappearance of scientists in the communist country who spoke out.

The journal article is set to make waves among the scientific community, as the majority of experts have until recently staunchly denied the origins of COVID-19 were anything other than a natural infection leaping from animals to humans.

    • All I know of relevance and nobody is talking about it: they shut down the Wuhan Lab in early-to-mid November for two weeks. Back then, Jennifer Zen on Twitter was doing a fantastic job of covering the story with backup proof. Thus, something was happening in that Lab for two weeks.

    Here is my anecdotal report.

?One of our neighbours just dropped dead of a heart attack. He was 67. He had a previous heart condition which required a stent five years ago but he had cleaned up his lifestyle, gave up smoking, drinking, lost weight, had his cholesterol and everything under control. He seemed to be in the best health ever. He had an appointment with his cardiologist in the city and he arranged to have his second Pfizer vaccine shot on the same trip eight days before his massive heart attack. At his check up which included imaging and EEG and a stress test, he was pronounced as perfectly fine. I personally think he may have had a heart attack due to myocarditis from the vaccine but because of his age and previous heart condition, it will not be reported as such. What if we are only noticing this in young males because young males don’t normally get this? How do we know older people are not dying from the vaccine but it’s being ignored? –

First new British news network in 24 years takes to the airwaves as station boss Andrew Neil tells viewers ‘if it matters to you it matters to us’ and vows to tackle cancel culture saying ‘now is the time to do news differently’

Andrew Neil pledged his new 24-hour news channel will tackle cancel culture and will not be ‘yet another echo chamber for the metropolitan mindset’ as it launched at 8pm tonight.

GB News, which is aiming to reach those who feel ‘unheard’ by the media, launched at 8pm tonight with a special programme titled Welcome To GB News.

It is the first new British news network in 24 years – since BBC News 24 launched in 1997. Although foreign channels have launched in the UK in that time, such as Al Jazeera English, this is the first new network specifically for UK audiences.

It has brought in big names ahead of its launch, including signing Simon McCoy, Sky News anchor Colin Brazier and new MailOnline columnist Dan Wootton. Neil, who will present a show four nights a week, is the face and chairman of GB News, announcing its birth last year while also signalling the end of his relationship with the BBC, where he was one of the most respected political interviewers.

At 8pm, as the channel launched, he gave a five minute introduction for viewers, saying the network would concentrate on ‘the stories that matter to you and that others are neglecting’. He added: ‘We are committed to covering the people’s agenda, not the media’s agenda.

GB News will not be yet another echo chamber for the metropolitan mindset that already dominates so much of the media.’ Pictured left: Andrew Neil. Top right: Michelle Dewberry. Inset: Piers Morgan wishing the team good luck.

Eco-Terrorist Letter Received by Forest Service Was Sent by Biden’s Bureau of Land Management Nominee

Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming responded critically to nominee Tracy Stone-Manning’s role in sending a threatening letter on behalf of an environmentalist group that committed tree spiking crimes in 1989.

“Tracy Stone-Manning collaborated with eco-terrorists,” Barrasso said, according to the Daily Caller. “She worked with extreme environmental activists who spiked trees, threatening the lives and livelihoods of loggers.”

“While she was given immunity from prosecution to testify against her companions in court, her actions were disgraceful,” he said.

The Washington Post described tree spiking as an “‘eco-terrorist’ tactic,” noting a specific case in 1987 when a mill worker’s electric saw came in contact with a tree spike, causing the saw to break and half of the blade to be launched into his face — tearing through his safety helmet, creating a gash from his eye to his chin and splitting his jaw in half.
