Reader’s Links for May 15, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. “Two rakes, chicken wire, dust masks and a can of bug spray,” I said to the man who opened the back door. I was at the hardware store. You called in your order first then picked it up after a while, because in my jurisdiction retail stores are locked down unless you’re buying food, booze or marijuana. Think on that. There are danger-free zones under Leftist thought. Buildings selling booze and pot are safe, while buildings selling Jeezus are disease pits.

“Someone will be right with you,” he replied.

One is also free if one is a demonstrating Muslim or communist. They don’t seem to get those big fines quite as often. That’s not fair.

I waited in the parking lot for my rakes and wasp spray. It was finally warming up after a rotten, cold Spring. Now it was sunny. The rays seemed to kill the lingering gloom, as it does the Wuhan flu.

Areas that don’t shut down or mandate masks get less pandemic than places that do. We live in an era blinded by scientism. Actually, the word “scientism” does not adequately describe the unfairness of the contradictions and hypocrisy we suffer. Seemingly arbitrary measures driven by leftist political motivations to exert ever-greater control over the populace. There. Fixed it. There seems to be less scientism in Texas, Florida and South Dakota. Those jurisdictions also will likely not require passports proving that one has received an injection for Covid-19. If I could move there now I think I would. Alas, if only it were so easy. Another counter-intuitive statistic seems to indicate more Wuhan flu infections, now, in people who are fully vaccinated than in those who are not.

The door swung open. A different hardware store man, maybe in his mid-twenties, leaned the rakes against the wall and handed me a plastic bag. I looked inside to check, “bug spray, you’ve got the masks–.”

“–But you don’t,” he shot back. In fact he was so quick on the draw it took me a second to realize the mild animus suddenly confronting me. But I was prepared. I had read the sign on the door beforehand. It only said that anyone entering the premises was to mask up. It said nothing about standing in a sunny parking lot.

“The sign says to wear a mask only if you enter.”

“We’re interacting.” He had clearly thought things through.

I instantly imagined the lightening speed with which such a silly exchange could escalate. Was this my scientism mole hill to die on? No. I just wanted my stuff. “Then change your sign.”

The real Great Reset will come when people stop outsourcing their conscience to the god of collectivism.

      • Then the spirit of the law was written for Donald Duck, and worshippers of Allah and communism enjoy divine spittle control. How deliciously selective.

      • “Scientific Brief: SARS-CoV-2 Transmission
        Updated May 7, 2021”

“SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted by exposure to infectious respiratory fluids
The principal mode by which people are infected with SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) is through exposure to respiratory fluids carrying infectious virus. Exposure occurs in three principal ways: (1) inhalation of very fine respiratory droplets and aerosol particles, (2) deposition of respiratory droplets and particles on exposed mucous membranes in the mouth, nose, or eye by direct splashes and sprays, and (3) touching mucous membranes with hands that have been soiled either directly by virus-containing respiratory fluids or indirectly by touching surfaces with virus on them.”

        • Scientific brief…for all times…
If your immune system works…then you have nothing to worry when you wait for your package in the parking lot.
If you didn’t got the old flu in last 5 years, you have nothing to worry about new flu. This is a sign that your immune system is still active. At least against corona viruses.

And, 99% of virus transmission is not related to droplets.

By the way…get ready…there is in the making new upgrade of covid-19….this year we get upgraded covid-21.
          And new restrictions.

          • Pretty sure you are right about that. China enjoyed WILD success with Covid19 so why the hell would they stop making new variants now, just when they are winning?

        • Covid ?
It is 1000 times more dangerous to be white, with a bottle of wine in your hand, in London.

          let’s talk about covid…
I will say that only paranoid people get scared of something that is less dangerous than driving a car in Germany at 175 mph.
          I love driving.

      • I just posted the Maddow clip not realizing you were first on the draw.
It gives us good insight into the brain wiring of the multitudes we saw and still see wearing the face diaper on the street and/or in their vehicles.
How to deal with these people? Smile at them.

  2. “…the third wave has hit harder…because of a slow vaccine rollout…”

Really? The vaccines are so efficacious? Prove it, says I. Prove it while counting the infections of those now fully vaccinated.

I really hope the injections work, but there were better alternatives, and we’ve been suckered. That’s the reality we must admit to.

    • The Defender website
      Up to Friday, May 14,2021

      192,954 adverse events
      4,057 deaths
      17,190 serious injuries

According to the CDC there were more excess deaths in 2017 that in 2020. In some years, deaths exceed projections for instance in a bad flu year. These extra deaths are characterized as “excess deaths”.

In February, the CDC reported it attributed 376,504 deaths in 2020 to COVID-19. In 2017, a bad flu year, 401,000 excess deaths.

A recent Research paper in the prestigious journal, The Proceedings, of the National Academy of Science, points out these statistics and then an even more surprising claim:

The comparison is more striking when years of life lost (YLL) is the measure used. Goldstein and Lee estimated that the mean loss of life years for a person dying from COVID-19 in the United States is 11.7y. Multiplying 377,000 decedents by 11.7 year lost per decedent gives a total of 4.41 m years of life lost to COVID-19 in 2020, only a third of the 13.02 million life years loss to excess mortality in the US in 2017. The reason that the comparison is so much sharper for YLL than excess deaths is that COVID-19 deaths in 2020 occurred at much older ages, on average, than excess deaths in 2017.

—Many experts have been saying for months – – COVID is comparable to a severe flu that disproportionately affects old people, BUT IS LESS DANGEROUS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE EVEN THAN THE FLU.

Some might claim COVID deaths would have been much worse without lockdowns and mask mandates. There is increasing evidence, however, that these non-pharmaceutical interventions had little or no effect on COVID mortality.

My thoughts: There is NOTHING to fear but fear itself still holds true.

Some day down the road when all the fear mongering has subsided, and common sense is once again not considered conspiracy, there should be a very serious discussion on who in our society profited at the “little people’s” expense. Perhaps people will rethink who and what kind of a person we elect for office – starting at the municipal level.

Last fall I attended an outdoor sale, in a field, tables far apart, only so many MASKED people allowed in the area at one time, the smell in the air was hand sanitizer that the puppets were using at an alarming rate. The event was set up by the local politicians and their volunteers.

Lives lost from COVID through our politicians reactions – –
-The number of nursing home poor souls who were neglected and not given the drugs that would have saved them.

-The number of people who died because they could not get proper medical attention
      -Operating rooms shut down

-Deaths from adverse reactions to the vaccines – staggering numbers

-Long term effects from adverse reactions to the vaccines – staggering numbers both physically and mentally.

-The Children, the effects on children, the FEAR FEAR FEAR promoted by the MSM.

-School years lost and the loss of faith in the so called adults of this world.

-The friendships that have been lost – through the fear spread by the MSM, and hopefully investigate the CBC – panic and fear propaganda

I personally had to wait 8 months to have an operation on a detached retina – – you cannot wait that long said the doctor who operated – really – I can see shadows out of my COVID eye, but I consider myself one of the lucky survivors of this bloody big joke.

Justine Trudeau, Doug Ford and many many other Federal and provincial politicians, health officials, CBC, most of the MSM, have failed the “little people” badly.

    • Toronto Sun – WARMINGTON: Family left with questions after Brampton senior’s death

Larry Caulfield loved Premier Doug Ford.

He loved Ontario, Canada, his three kids and six grandkids — all of whom urged him to get the coronavirus vaccine.

“We wanted him to be healthy,” said his son, Neil. “We felt it was the right thing to do.”

So the 75-year-old long-haul truck driver went to the Brampton Soccer Centre to get the jab on April 6.

But there is no happy ending to this story.

“You know how you mentioned there were 50 nameless people who were recorded by the government to have died after receiving the vaccine?” asked Neil. “Well my dad was one of those 50.”

He died on April 11 after four miserable days in hospital.

“It was rough,” said Neil, who isn’t even close to being at the end of the grieving process. “He got very sick after that vaccination.”

The big question is, did he die of complications from the inoculation, from COVID-19, or as a result of pre-existing conditions that may have been a contributing factor?

      It’s not clear, Neil said.

What is clear is his dad didn’t show any COVID-19 symptoms before getting that shot.

“They counted it as a COVID death, but I’m not sure,” Neil said. “If he did have COVID, he may have gotten it from the line at the vaccination clinic because he was careful and always wore his mask.”

When he was getting his dose, Neil said, he noticed that there “was no ventilation” and “the three big fans weren’t spinning and the only door open was the one that everybody was coming in from.”

The 50 dead after receiving the vaccine that Neil mentioned come from Health Canada’s Vaccination Coverage page under the “Reported side-effects following COVID-19 vaccination in Canada” section. The 50 number I reported last week has now been updated to 56 reported dying after receiving the vaccine.

Of the 56 dead, Health Canada says “28 are still under investigation,” while “23 are unlikely linked to a COVID-19 vaccine.”

It also states that “three deaths couldn’t be assessed due to insufficient information” and “two deaths were likely linked to the vaccine (thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome).”

Of the 15,325,183 doses handed out, there have been 5,015 adverse effects reported, 872 of which have been deemed serious. On the issue of blood clotting, Health Canada reported 15 cases.

      His dad wasn’t a statistic.

Neil said it was him who took his dad to the mass vaccination clinic because he believed Ford and others who said this was the best option.

“I wanted him to be safe,” Neil said.

Although he has regrets, Neil understands there is nothing he can do to change the outcome now.

But perhaps the province can call a coroner’s inquest into Larry’s death to learn all aspects of it from A to Z?

Larry was a fan of both Ford and late great mayor Rob Ford, went to FordFest parties and had pictures to prove it.

Neil holds no animosity toward Ford but does have some questions.

“Maybe one day someone can explain to me why dad’s diabetic medication wasn’t covered, but people get free needles and heroin?” said Neil. “Dad got a government-issued needle and a week later I lose my best friend.”

Legitimate questions that perhaps the premier could demand answers to in memory of a proud member of Ford Nation named Larry Caulfield.

  3. Swedish feminists (who castrated their own men for decades) are still puzzling over what could be the reason for the rise in violence against women? It certainly has nothing to do with the mass importation of violence-prone Muslims, nor with feminist encouragement to report every little thing. But exclusively with the world-famous misogyny that is ineradicable deep within the Swedish men.

France is puzzling why a church disappears with every new mosque built. Socialists: wasters of others’ resources, despisers of their own. As internationalists indifferent to the future and national interests, it is always about “saving the world”. That goal can only be achieved by making all the world one’s boarders.

    • There can be only one solution: to take the neighboring country as an example for “successful integration”! However, this miraculous “transformation” back to the stone age is always accompanied by the fact that the only people who will want to visit these countries in the future will not be tourists, but exclusively economic refugees from the Third World who do not consider their own ruined homelands worth living in. Those who argue that the new socialist motto of “diversity above all” is self-defeating and irresponsible simply have not understood how structural racism still poisons their thinking!

  4. DR Congo Eid clashes: Court hands down death sentences

Twenty-nine people have been sentenced to death in the Democratic Republic of Congo in connection with Eid violence that erupted in the capital, Kinshasa.

One police officer was killed and dozens of others were injured in clashes between rival Muslim groups.

They had gathered to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, but fell out over who should lead the event.

The death penalty is no longer applied in DR Congo and those found guilty will serve life sentences instead.

[…]The clashes were fuelled by a leadership dispute between two camps within the Muslim community.

Forty-one people were arrested at the scene and were put on trial on Friday.

The court session was broadcast live on television and went on all night.

DR Congo has not carried out death penalties since a moratorium was introduced in 2003. Since then, death sentences are commuted to life imprisonment.

Thirty people were sentenced to death in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday for their role in anti-police violence marking the end of Ramadan in the capital Kinshasa.

A policeman was killed on Thursday as rival Muslim groups fought over the right to mark the end of Ramadan at a major sports stadium, officials said.

The government has also confirmed that one policewoman is in critical condition and 46 others were injured with eight in a serious state.

About ten police vehicles were damaged including one that was completely incinerated.

A total of 38 people who had been arrested appeared at Friday’s trial.

The trial was broadcast live on public television and lasted until the early hours of Saturday.

A lawyer for civil parties, Chief Tshipamba, told AFP 30 people were sentenced to death and a recording of the proceedings obtained by AFP confirmed the verdict.

DR Congo has not carried out death penalties since a moratorium was introduced in 2003. Since then, death sentences are commuted to life imprisonment.

Two rival factions have for years disputed the leadership of the DRC’s Comico Muslim federation.

While the case remains before the courts, the two sides remain at odds and occasionally come to blows.

Around 10% of the DRC’s population are Muslim, most concentrated in the country’s east.

But Kinshasa on the Congo river in the west of the vast central African country also traditionally sees mass celebrations for the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan in public squares and on major roads.

Speaking with AFP reporters outside the stadium, dismayed worshipper Papy Okitankoyi Kimoto said it was “devastating to do a month of fasting only to have it end in guerilla street scenes like this”.

Widely circulated images of the violence and of the injured police officers have prompted authorities to call for religious leaders to be held accountable.

DR Congo’s minister of sports Serge Chembo Nkonde has sanctioned the managers of the stadium where the violence took place.

  5. This kiss radio viewpoint about pls vaccinate got on on my dashcam

“This whole pandemic has taught us a lot about human behavior. And science has confirmed the sooner we all get vaccinated the sooner we’re out of this pandemic nightmare right. Well for some people helping the greater good and saving lives isn’t enough of an incentive, there’s been hesitation, there’s been refusal. So a lot of places have been a bit more creative with incentivizing getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
Some stores are doing things like hey if you show your vaccination card you get a free ice cream…

  7. reuters – Gaza tower housing AP, Al Jazeera collapses after missile strike – witness

A 12-storey Gaza tower block housing the offices of the U.S.-based Associated Press and Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera collapsed on Saturday after being struck by Israeli missiles, a Reuters witness said.

The owner of the building had been warned in advance of an impending Israeli missile strike, a Reuters reporter said, and the building had been evacuated.

The Israeli military did not immediately provide comment on the incident.

The building also contained a number of apartments and other offices.

al jazeera – Gaza tower housing Al Jazeera office destroyed by Israeli attack

Israel warned residents of the building, which also housed residential apartments and the AP bureau, to evacuate an hour before air raid.

A building that housed international media offices including Al Jazeera’s in the Gaza Strip has been hit by an Israeli air raid that demolished the structure.

It was not immediately clear if there were casualties in Saturday’s attack. Live Al Jazeera video showed the 11-storey Al-Jalaa building, which also houses a number of residences and other offices, crashing to the ground after being bombed as dust and debris flew into the air.

The building also housed The Associated Press news agency bureau.

Al Jazeera’s Safwat al-Kahlout, reporting from Gaza City, said a resident of the building received a call from the Israeli army warning of the impending attack about an hour before it was hit.

Al-Kahlout, who was in the building at the time, said he and colleagues “started to collect as much as they could, from the personal and equipment of the office, especially the cameras”.
After watching at least three missiles hitting the building, and its subsequent collapse, al-Kahlout said he had worked at the building for 11 years, and often did live reporting from its roof.

“I have been covering lots of events from this building,” he said. “We have lots of good memories with our colleagues.”

It was not immediately made clear why the building was targeted by Israel, but comes as scores of structures have been demolished, sometimes after a warning phone call or missile “tap”, by Israeli attacks in the Palestinian enclave.

“Now, one can understand the feeling of the people whose homes have been destroyed by such kind of air attacks,” al-Kahlout said. “It’s really difficult to wake up one day and then you realise that your office is not there with all the career experiences, memories that you’ve had.”

  9. Jerusalem CCTV shows Israeli car hitting Palestinian
An Israeli motorist crashed into one of around a dozen Palestinian stone-throwers who attacked his vehicle in East Jerusalem on Monday, an incident that injured at least three people and fanned street protests and violence in the city.
CCTV footage showed the Palestinians milling around slow-moving traffic on a junction outside the walled Old City and then converging on a car. One of the Palestinians briefly opened a door of the car as it backed away, rocks pelting its bonnet.
The car then swerved back into the junction, striking one of the stone-throwers and pinioning itself on a pavement barricade, its driver-side door flying open, the CCTV footage showed.
Several Palestinians rushed up to lob rocks at the driver and a passenger, who could be seen gesticulating through the window. The stone-thrower struck by the vehicle limped away.
Twenty-five seconds after the collision, an Israeli police arrived and fired his pistol in the air to disperse the crowd.
Bystander footage showed the policeman guarding the driver, whose shirt was torn and bloodied, and who appeared to have an improvised bandage on his forehead.
Palestinians accused the motorist of a deliberate ramming.
Police said he lost control of his car, and that he and a passenger were lightly hurt in the incident. The officer who drew his weapon did so in response to a lethal threat, it said.

  10. ‘I Think I Can Use My Own Judgment On That’: Pro-Abortion Pelosi Says She Can Decide Herself Whether She Can Take Communion
    Hank Berrien
    7-8 minutes

On Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that her pro-abortion stance should not preclude her from receiving Holy Communion, saying loftily, “I think I can use my own judgment on that.”

Pelosi was prompted by a reporter, “The U.S. Archbishops and the Bishops Conference doesn’t want you to receive Communion. Your remarks on that?”

Pelosi stated, “No, they don’t. No. I think I can use my own judgment on that,” then continued, “I’m pleased by what the Vatican put out on that subject. Did you read that?”

The reporter responded, “It’ll be up to the individual priest.”

Not trusting the propaganda of authoritarian China and restricting travel to and from China early on during the COVID-19 pandemic have been key factors in Taiwan’s successful management of the pandemic, one of Taiwan’s top public health officials told The Epoch Times this week.

In an exclusive interview at Taipei’s iconic Grand Hotel, Dr. Shiing Jer Twu—Chairman of Taiwan’s Development Center for Biotechnology, former Health Minister of Taiwan, and former Director-General of Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—shared insights into how Taiwan has been able to keep deaths due to COVID-19 below a total of 15 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Bombshell: Arizona Election Results Audit Finds ‘Significant Discrepancies,’ Ballots Off By Up To 17.5%, Joe Biden ‘Likely Did Not Win’
    4 minutes

(Republican Insider) – The currently ongoing audit of ballots that were cast in Maricopa County, Arizona has discovered “significant discrepancies” in the number of ballots versus the number of them that were supposed to exist. Which essentially means there’s shenanigans going on just as everyone suspected from the beginning.

According to a new report published by Infowars, Boris Epshteyn, a political strategist, went on to suggest the discrepancies might be as high as 17.5 percent and then dropped the bombshell that it’s “likely Joe Biden did not win Arizona.”

The Arizona Senate President sent a letter out to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, which addressed some pretty big issues that have already been discovered in the audit and offered to settle them without the need for more subpoenas or any sort of compulsory action.
