Reader’s Links for April 22, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Democrats’ Supreme Court Closet Swings Open – Liberal Dark Money Groups Are Trying To Pack The Court
    What’s Happening:

Democrats are racing to pack the Supreme Court before the American people realize what’s really going on, and they’re getting some secret help to get it done.

We’ve already explained how Democrats plan to politically add seats to the court using their slim majority in Congress and their control of the White House.

They are using any avenue possible to centralize their power, even if it goes against longtime precedent.

  3. An author of Islamic books in Algeria has been sentenced to three years in prison for offending the religion.

Said Djabelkhir said he was surprised by the severity of the sentence he had been given and would appeal.

He was tried after seven lawyers and a fellow academic lodged complaints against him for disrespecting Islam.

Mr Djabelkhir had said the animal sacrifice during the Muslim festival of Eid was based on a pre-Islamic pagan ritual.

He also suggested that parts of the Quran, such as the story of Noah’s Ark, might not be literally true and criticised practices including the marriage of young girls in some Muslim societies.

    • He’s surprised? I’m in the US and univeristy faculty at a symposium criticised this Algerian author for going “over the line of acceptable behavior” because a character in his novel questioned the existence of God.

  4. Russia will begin withdrawing its military forces from the Ukrainian border starting Friday, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced Thursday, after the buildup had raised alarms in the West of renewed clashes.

Speaking during snap readiness exercises in annexed Crimea, Shoigu ordered the general staff of the armed forces, military chiefs and the airborne troops to begin returning to their home bases from the Russian-Ukrainian border and Crimea starting April 23.

“I believe that the goals of the snap inspection have been fully achieved,” Interfax quoted Shoigu as saying. “The troops demonstrated the ability to reliably defend the country.”

“In this regard, I have decided to complete the Southern and Western military district reviews,” he added.

  5. A Sikh neighbor informed me that Sati, the burning of Hindu widows with their deceased husbands, was on the rise in India, and that the third Sikh Guru, Guru Amar Das Ji, was against this practise of mistreating Hindu widows.

I have not found any evidence of this increase, and it might have been to tempt me to take a look at his Holy Guru:

“It should be remembered that Guru’s eldest daughter, Bibi Dani was married to Rama who was a zealous Sikh. He used to work in Guru’s kitchen and administer to the needs of the pilgrims. Jetha was his younger son-in-law. One day the Guru asked Rama and Jetha,”Each one of you make a platform by the side of Bawli. I will sit on one in the morning and on the other in the evening.” When the platforms were completed, the Guru went to inspect them. Rama showed his work and thought that he had done well. The Guru told Rama,”Your platform is not straight, bring it down and rebuild it.” Rama dissented but rebuilt another one. It still failed to please the Guru. Rama after long argument, pulled the platform down but refused to build it third time.

The Guru inspected Jetha’s platform and said,”Jetha, I do not like it. Demolish it and build another one.” Jetha built the second one which was also not of Guru’s liking. He demolished it and rebuilt it. The Guru continued to find fault with it until it was destroyed and rebuilt seven times. Jetha then fell at Guru’s feet and begged, “I am a fool and lack understanding, while thou possesseth all knowledge. kindly bless me with the wisdom so that I may be able to erect the platform of your liking.”

On hearing this the Guru smiled and embraced Jetha and commented,” Obeying my order, you have built the platform seven times, so seven generations of thine shall sit on the throne of Guru Nanak.””

Now Rama seems like the guy, ‘Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me, fool me three times, I’m walking.’

Whereas, Jetha was broken-in like a colt, losing every confidence in himself, to be the Guru’s slave with the promise that he shall sit on the throne of Jesus Guru Nanak.””

Burning on a Pyre was held as a widow’s highest virtue of love and devotion. A sentiment of ‘if only I can go with you!’. It could also be that widows were outcasts; taking a preferred way out in these situations.

Those unable to articulate this sentiment of grief, may be compelled to perform it. If so, it is desperately why women need education and financial independence.

    Abraham found a ram.

    • G-d presented Abraham with the ram.
He could’ve found one himself, but he was following orders. Abraham was relieved to learn that his G-d doesn’t want child sacrifice, a lesson he passed on to his tribe.

Soldiers in the Late Roman Republic found child sacrifice abhorant. They forced conquered peoples to abandon the custom.

(Romans often exposed unwanted female babies to die in certain places, like the environs of temps. But that was kosher. Economics.)
