Reader’s Links for March 11, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. I have absolute contempt for AHPRA one they forced the “white Invasion” oath onto midwives as a prerequisite to registration while health workers now are as leftist as the public servants and IMO they have partly destroyed nursing by their politics as well as making it very difficult for young white males to enter medicine unless they have family connections.

There is also another point: “In Queensland and now in NSW – the police are revoking shooter’s licences for traffic infringements – the excuse given is that people who accumulate several traffic infringements have demonstrated a disregard for the law and are therefore not fit and proper people to hold shooter’s licences”
Obtaining a shooter’s licence there is now a real pain in the proverbial and IMO people are going to start not bothering with a licence and the illegal arms market will flourish. They(police and politicians) are using their new found powers under CV19 and becoming big headed. They need a dire lesson.

But the main point is as below as politics now assumes healthcare’s mantle:

    https://sheikyermami.com/2021/03/australia-there-is-no-place-for-anti-vaccination-messages/#more-217225

    • When people start holding one law in contempt (the gun laws) it isn’t long before they hold all laws in contempt. The leftist governments around the world are due for a major lesson on that subject.

The only reason for gun control is to be able to control the people, the fact that the Governments don’t trust the people with firearms show that they fear them. This is the main reason for the Second Amendment, when the Government fears the people you have freedom, when the people fear the Government you have tyranny.

    • Nurses are being told if they don’t get the vaccine, they are exposing their family and others to harm. However, many say they will never expose themselves to this gene therapy.

  2. Old article but I thought some pieces interesting including the public health campaign awareness flyer in event of an acid attack report, remove, rinse

    https://dontforgetthebubbles.com/phirst-aid-management-chemical-attacks-children/

The latest figures released report 601 attacks in the UK in 2016 but 400 in first 6 months of 2017. London has emerged as a hot-spot for acid attacks in recent years and it is thought that many attacks still go unreported.

However in the UK, data from 2017 showed that male victims make-up 67% and only 6% of the perpetrators are from the Asian community. The majority of victims and suspects are now white European or Afro-Carribean. Also it’s a crime that predominantly involves young people and tends to be gang related.

  3. Ottawa Hospital, CEO, Cameron Love, says the hospital is working to clear 15,000 to 17,000 surgical procedures. Cancer and other life saving operations are their priority. 24,000 women are waiting breast screening. Cataract surgeries are approximately 12 months behind. The hospital is going to be hiring more help.

I wonder how many “COVID” delayed surgery deaths have occurred. The cure is killing us.

A police officer was seriously injured in the city of Groningen on Thursday evening. He was stabbed in the face when he approached two young men in connection with the curfew.

The stabbing happened on Van Houtenlaan at around 10:00 p.m. – an hour after the start of curfew. The officer was almost immediately attacked and stabbed in the face, a police spokesperson said to NOS. The two perpetrators fled on foot.

Another cop was at the scene. She was not injured and provided first aid to her partner while emergency services responded. The police officer was taken to hospital for treatment.

So far no arrests were made. The police are looking for two white young men who were wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack. They were on bicycles, but fled the scene on foot.

Saudi officials confirmed on Monday, 8 March, that infrastructure in eastern Saudi Arabia was targeted with ballistic missiles and drones in a late-Sunday strike attributed to Houthi insurgents in Yemen.

The Houthis took credit for the attack quite promptly. Impacts occurred in Saudi Arabia in the city of Dhahran and the oil complex at Ras Tanura on the Persian Gulf. Saudi defenses also took out incoming missiles and drones.

Missiles and helos and drones, oh my. Shahid Roudaki shows off her collection in Nov 2020. IranPress video via USNI, YouTube

In Part I, we looked at a new maritime weapons platform Iran unveiled in November 2020, a modified roll-on/roll-off ship (RO/RO), the Shahid Roudaki. Shahid Roudaki, a commercial cargo hull, does not have the characteristics of a fighting ship, but will apparently be used to move weapon systems and possibly force packages (e.g., for special forces) around the Middle East.

The topic came up because of the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia with missiles and drones, one of which the Saudis stated was “launched from the sea.” While that could mean the drone was launched from Iraqi or Iranian territory and flew overwater – something suspected in attacks as early as 2019 – the Shahid Roudaki platform adds another dimension to the problem.

We left the story of Shahid Roudaki with the ship’s identity possibly being spoofed in recent months in East Asia, after her debut with the IRGCN, and the intriguing possibility as well that Shahid Roudaki went to China in October 2020, shortly before the Iranian announcement of her addition to the fleet in Bandar Abbas.

  6. – VACCINE, ANOTHER DEATH: (Healthy) Utah mom Kassidi Kurill dies four days after second dose of Moderna vaccine –

A 39-year-old single mom in Utah with no underlying medical conditions died four days after receiving her second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, according to a report.

Kassidi Kurill, a mother of one from Ogden, received the vaccine due to her work as a surgical tech for several plastic surgeons, KUTV reported.

“She was absolutely fine with getting it. In fact, she told all of us, ‘It’s fine, you guys should all get it,’” her father Alfred Hawley told the outlet.

Kurill experienced a sore arm after the first jab of Moderna, but had no other side effects.

But things took a tragic turn after she received her second dose on Feb. 1.

“She came in early and said her heart was racing and she felt like she need to get to the emergency room,” Hawley said.

As soon as they arrived at the ER, Kurill was throwing up. Hawley, a retired fighter pilot, told doctors his daughter had just received her second shot.

“They did a blood test and immediately came back and said she was very, very sick, and her liver was not functioning,” he told KUTV.

Kurill’s older sister Kristin, who lives in Arizona, said she knew her sister had gone to the hospital, but the speed at which she deteriorated was “so unexpected.”

… An autopsy was performed on Kurill’s body but the state Medical Examiner’s Office could not comment on the case due to privacy laws, according to KUTV.

Pollen could increase COVID-19 infection susceptibility

THE STUDY: By the end, they found that higher pollen levels were associated with increases in infection rates of the virus that causes COVID-19, scientifically known as SARS-CoV-2. More specifically, the researchers noted a 10-30 percent increase in the infection rate of the virus when pollen levels were higher.

The researchers also noted that infection rates generally increased when higher concentrations of pollen were in the air, noting that the infection rates increased about four days after higher concentrations of pollen were observed.

    • I’m wildly allergic to tree pollen.
An asthma attack could look like covid, maybe~
      If that’s what you’re looking for~

      • Same here re pollen allergy. Runny nose, sneezing, itchy red eyes, itching throat, and asthma.

For the eye problem, there’s only one eyedrop formula that works: Albalon.

We’ll be doing a lot of explaining this spring when we go out. I’m thinking of hanging a note around my neck with the word ‘ALLERGIES’.

        • Good luck with that Sassy, I have explained to people I can not tolerate the hand sanitizers everyone seems to drown themselves in. I have a hard time breathing, but the “fragile ones” still yell at me for now wearing a mask. Geeez I say “I can’t breathe” and get yelled at.

        • Vasomotor Rhinitis is part pf a spectrum that includes not only a dripping nose, but wheezing/coughing, but not is due to allergies but due to a sudden very minor core temperature drop, It is a survival ability for those in cold climates as it allows a timely response. I have mountain climbed with many people and those who do not have it and do not feel the cold nor adapt to it quickly are the ones who have frostbite or worse.
Add allergic rhinitis etc. to the mix and it becomes complicated Sneeze & wheeze in Autumn and Spring and drip and sneeze in winter and summer(air conditioning).

    • Higher pollen concentrations correlate with COVID-19 cases
      {snips}
Higher pollen concentration is correlated with an increase in COVID-19 cases in early spring 2020,….

While the data indicate that high pollen concentrations could add an extra 10% to 30% to SARS-CoV-2 infection rates, the researchers reiterate that viral transmissions will not occur unless you are exposed to someone with COVID-19. [duh~]

Previous studies have shown that pollen exposure can impair immunity against some seasonal respiratory viruses, and so the researchers tried to identify a relationship with SARS-CoV-2.…

According to the study, the relationship could explain, on average, 44% of infection rate variability in 9 out of 14 countries that experienced lockdown.

Lockdowns themselves appeared to halve the daily infection rates correlated with pollen. While the taxa of the pollen did not seem to have any effect, the researchers say that those with allergies, asthma, or chronic rhinosinusitis may be more likely to experience the “pollen effect” than the general population…

“As there can be no preventive measures against airborne pollen exposure, [house arrest we suggest wide dissemination of pollen-virus coexposure dire effect information to encourage high-risk individuals to wear particle filter masks during high springtime pollen concentrations,” the researchers write. [Try house arrest, closed windows.]

“How does the Western world survive and democracy thrive, if there is not honest and objective assessment of this already flawed President”.

Mr Jones said the president continues to “walk on both sides” of issues including on values, climate change, and foreign politics.

“As I keep asking, are some of these politicians dumb or duplicitous, or both?” he said.

“He upholds the values of America, but lets in illegal immigrants. He will create jobs, but destroys thousands in shutting down a pipeline. He hates cultural norms, but accepts that China’s brutality is a consequence of ‘different norms in each country’.”

The previous day, Hunt said on Twitter that he had been inoculated at the weekend with AstraZeneca Plc’s COVID-19 vaccine, one of two being distributed in the country.

Hunt, 55, will stay overnight for observation and is receiving antibiotics and fluid, his office said, without describing his symptoms or saying when he was admitted to hospital.

“The minister is expected to make a full recovery,” it said in a statement. “His condition is not considered to be related to the vaccine.”

    • Brazil: Lula advocates for COVID-19 vaccine, suggests not listening to “imbecile” Bolsonaro

Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said he would take the COVID-19 vaccine and encouraged Brazilians to do so as well, as he spoke at the Workers Party headquarters in Sao Bernardo do Campo south of Sao Paulo on Wednesday.

Lula was giving his first presser after the Supreme Federal Court dismissed his convictions resulting from a criminal investigation known as Operation Car Wash which began in 2014.

“If God wants, I will take the vaccine. I don’t care which one, I don’t care how many doses. I will take my vaccine and advocate for it so that people don’t follow any of the comments of the imbecile president or the health minister. Let’s all get vaccinated, every Brazilian. It’s the only way to get rid of COVID-19,” said the former president.

The 75-year-old vowed to continue fighting for justice, blasting former executive judge Sergio Moro for his involvement in Operation Car Wash, saying: “He does not have the right to become the biggest liar in Brazilian history and be considered a hero for those who created him.”

On Monday, the Supreme Court overturned all convictions of the former president related to Operation Car Wash stating that judge Sergio Moro had no jurisdiction over the case.

    • EU to propose vaccine certificates in time for summer holidays

The European Commission will propose this month an EU-wide digital certificate providing proof of a COVID-19 vaccination that could allow Europeans to travel more freely over the summer.

The pass would provide proof that a person has been vaccinated, the results of tests for those not yet vaccinated and information on recovery for people who have contracted COVID-19.

“The aim is to gradually enable them to move safely in the European Union or abroad – for work or tourism,” Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said in a tweet on Monday.

The Commission wants to establish an EU-wide system to prevent separate deals being hatched between EU countries that would fragment its internal market and to avoid finding itself subject to a system set by a third country or by a tech giant.

Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides said vaccine deliveries would sharply increase in the coming months.

“Vaccine rollouts must follow as well so there are no gaps and no vaccines are left unused,” she told a news conference.

EU leaders agreed last week to work on vaccine certificates, with southern member states such as Spain and Greece particularly keen to unlock tourism this summer.

However, it is not yet clear whether vaccinated people can still transmit the virus to others. Some countries, such as France and Belgium, have also expressed concern that easing travel only for inoculated people would be unfair.

The Commission said it wanted to avoid any discrimination.

EU countries would be free to set their own criteria for entry, although broadly open borders make this a difficult task.

    • UK – No10 unveil dramatic trailer about UK’s ‘envy of the world’ vaccine rollout

The Government has unveiled a dramatic trailer for a documentary about Britain’s coronavirus vaccination rollout, called: ‘A Beacon of Hope: The UK Vaccine Story’.

Set to intense music, the 50-second advert features clips from interviews with leading UK scientists Jonathan Van-Tam, Sir Patrick Vallance and Chris Whitty.

Mr Van-Tam described Britain as having been ‘on a mission’ to make a vaccine, while Sir Patrick spoke about the ‘extraordinary, unexpected, fantastic’ achievement.

But the clip provoked criticism online from some who claimed it was a cover-up for Ministers’ perceived failings in other areas such as the Test and Trace programme.

Mr Van-Tam, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, said in the trailer: ‘Back in March, we’re heading into lockdown.

The NHS is coming under extreme pressure.

We were on a mission, and the mission was to get vaccines for the UK. It’s just a colossal effort that I don’t think people will realise has happened behind the scenes.’

Sir Patrick, who is Chief Scientific Adviser, said in his interview: ‘Most vaccines don’t make it, they fall over at some point along the way.’

He later added: ‘Extraordinary, unexpected, fantastic – it was one day of real joy and thinking, yes, there’s a way out of this.’

And Mr Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England, said: ‘We were not absolutely confident at all that any vaccine would be possible.’

The trailer also includes a flashback clip of Prime Minister Boris Johnson telling the country: ‘You must stay at home.’

The release date has not yet been confirmed, but the @10DowningStreet Twitter account said it was ‘coming soon’ after posting the trailer about 3pm today.

    • CBC – New Brunswick – Many nursing home workers haven’t consented to COVID-19 vaccine, association says

Lack of information about relatively new vaccine is driving down consent rates, employee representatives say

Nearly one in two employees in some nursing homes has still not completed their consent form for vaccination, according to the most recent data from the association that represents the province’s nursing homes.

The New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes advocates on behalf of all 70 licensed nursing homes in New Brunswick.

In an email to Radio-Canada, the association confirmed that 90 per cent of residents have received their COVID-19 vaccine, but noted much more hesitation among employees.

Only 55 per cent of them accepted the vaccine during the first round of vaccination.

According to the association’s executive director, Jodi Hall, this data comes from an average of nursing homes based on the number of consent forms received.

“We plan to continue training with staff to address any questions and concerns they may have,” Hall said, adding that she hopes that as the vaccination campaign accelerates, the number of staff consenting to the vaccine increases.

For the French-speaking Association of Special Care Homes in New Brunswick, which mainly represents small and medium-sized establishments, the proportion of employees who have not consented to be vaccinated is lower.

According to president Kevin Vienneau, about 20 per cent of employees have refused to be vaccinated.

“Of course we would like everyone to have it,” Vienneau said. “But it’s not an obligation. So as long as it’s not mandatory, we can’t really do anything.”

Many reasons for refusal, manager says

At the McGraw Residence in Bathurst, 12 out of 25 employees have so far agreed to be vaccinated.

According to manager David Duguay, it is mainly student employees who refused the vaccine.

Duguay said staff are encouraged to have the vaccine, but this can be challenging when someone has a “pre-conceived idea” about it.

He said the reasons for refusal are varied, but he thinks a lack of information about the vaccine is at the root of the problem. He’d like to see Public Health bolster its communication strategy around the vaccines.

“There is too much misinformation circulating everywhere,” he said.

Sharon Teare, president of the New Brunswick Council of Nursing Home Unions, which represents workers in 51 of the province’s nursing homes, echoed Duguay’s concerns about communication.

“Obviously, we want to do whatever we can do to keep our seniors safe,” Teare said. “They are our extended family and the reason we get to go to work every day.”

However, she said, a lack of information, both around the vaccine itself and around how to get it, has been a key factor in employees not consenting to it.

Teare said she has heard from workers who thought they’d signed up for a vaccine but later learned they had not.

At the end of the day, it’s all about communication.

      – Sharon Teare, N.B. Council of Nursing Home Unions president
“You have to look at the sign-up process. Is it the same in each and every nursing home? I can guarantee you it is not,” she said. “Who is it that you go to [to sign up], or are you simply signing up on a piece of paper that is located in a room that maybe you don’t frequent?”

As well, Teare said, the messaging has been inconsistent.

“Early on, the understanding was that residents would receive the vaccine before staff. Some of our staff were saying ‘We want our residents to have it first because they are more at risk.’ ”

In other cases, Teare said, staff hesitated because they felt they didn’t have enough information about the vaccine itself and how it would affect them.

Teare stressed she did not want to criticize, noting the pandemic has been stressful on so many levels.

“But at the end of the day, it’s all about communication,” she said. “You need a consistent message, a consistent way to sign up, a consistent way to get the message from the employer to the worker on the ground.”

A ‘thorough approval process,’ Health Department says
In an email Monday, Health Department spokesperson Shawn Berry addressed the hesitation to consent to the vaccine among some nursing home workers and concerns about the vaccine.

“The most effective public immunization campaigns involve everyone who can get a vaccine doing so,” Berry said.

“We understand that some people may have concerns, but we are confident that the majority of staff will recognize the importance of receiving the vaccine for the safety of residents, families and staff.”

Berry noted that “Health Canada has a thorough approval process” for vaccines.

“A vaccine is only approved after an independent and thorough scientific review for safety, effectiveness and quality,” he said.

If someone is unsure about whether the COVID-19 vaccination is right for them, Berry said, “they should consult with their primary care provider.”

“We have been [speaking] and we will continue to speak about the benefits of vaccination in order to protect New Brunswick’s population,” he said.

‘It doesn’t hurt and we’re not sick with it’

Villa des Jardins resident Juanita Chamberland doesn’t understand the reluctance to get vaccinated.

She’s had her first of the required two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and is waiting for her second.

“It doesn’t hurt and we’re not sick with it,” she said.

Chamberland said a close friend of hers — a resident at another Edmundston care home, Manoir Belle Vue — died of COVID-19.

She’d like to see the government make the vaccine mandatory because the possible consequences of refusal are too great.

The New Brunswick Medical Society, however, doesn’t think making the vaccine compulsory is the way to go, and doesn’t plan to campaign for that to happen.

“We believe that a strong education and awareness strategy should be used to educate all New Brunswickers about the safety, effectiveness and value of vaccines,” agency president Dr. Jeff Steeves said.

“We encourage all citizens, including doctors and other health-care providers, to get vaccinated as soon as they can.”

Can you be fired for refusing vaccine?

Can an employer fire an unvaccinated employee? According to retired law professor Michèle Caron, the short answer is yes.

The employer generally agrees and the courts accept that vaccination may be required, Caron said.

But she noted there are several nuances to consider in the case of nursing homes.

For example, she said, the employer would have to demonstrate that vaccination is indeed necessary because of very high risk.

In a non-unionized workplace, she said, the employer could potentially lay off an employee who refused vaccination other than for health or religious reasons.

“It seems that we are less contagious when we are vaccinated and therefore the employer could be justified” in this case, Caron said.

  15. This is INSANE!!!!

“This religious concept is fleshed out in the model curriculum’s official “ethnic studies community chant.” The curriculum recommends that teachers lead their students in a series of indigenous songs, chants, and affirmations, including the “In Lak Ech Affirmation,” which appeals directly to the Aztec gods. Students first clap and chant to the god Tezkatlipoka—whom the Aztecs traditionally worshipped with human sacrifice and cannibalism—asking him for the power to be “warriors” for “social justice.” Next, the students chant to the gods Quetzalcoatl, Huitzilopochtli, and Xipe Totek, seeking “healing epistemologies” and “a revolutionary spirit.” Huitzilopochtli, in particular, is the Aztec deity of war and inspired hundreds of thousands of human sacrifices during Aztec rule. Finally, the chant comes to a climax with a request for “liberation, transformation, [and] decolonization,” after which students shout “Panche beh! Panche beh!” in pursuit of ultimate “critical consciousness.””

  16. Military leaders hit Tucker Carlson over remarks on women in military

Senior military leaders are voicing support for women in the military after Fox News host Tucker Carlson complained on his show about recent changes meant to attract and retain more female service members.

“Women lead our most lethal units with character,” tweeted Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Grinston, the service’s top enlisted leader. “They will dominate ANY future battlefield we’re called to fight on. @TuckerCarlson’s words are divisive, don’t reflect our values. We have THE MOST professional, educated, agile, and strongest [noncommissioned officer] Corps in the world.”

On Monday, President Biden marked International Women’s Day by touting the recent promotion of two female generals. In his speech, Biden also touched on efforts in recent years to better accommodate women in the military, including work to design maternity flight suits and updating grooming standards to allow for a wider range of hairstyles.

The next night, Carlson railed against those efforts.

“So we’ve got new hairstyles and maternity flight suits. Pregnant women are going to fight our wars. It’s a mockery of the U.S. military,” Carlson said.

“While China’s military becomes more masculine as it has assembled the world’s largest navy, our military needs to become as Joe Biden says more feminine, whatever feminine means anymore,” he continued.

Tucker delivered the monologue next to a picture of an Air Force officer, who was wearing an artificial bump, modeling a flight suit designed for pregnant women.

The changes Carlson focused on were initiated during the Trump administration.

The Air Force has been working on buying maternity flight suits after announcing in 2019 that it would allow pilots to continue flying longer into their pregnancies without a waiver.

Meanwhile, in January, the Army unveiled new grooming standards that had been recommended in December, including allowing longer ponytails and wider braids, cornrows or twists. While grooming regulations are meant to reinforce uniformity, many women of color have complained that the strict rules don’t allow for braids or other hairstyles that are easier for those with different textures and hair lengths.

Asked about Carlson’s comments Thursday, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby relayed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s “revulsion” at the segment.

“What we absolutely won’t do is take personnel advice from a talk show host, or the Chinese military, and maybe those folks feel like they have something to prove, that’s on them,” Kirby told reporters.

But Kirby also said the American Forces Network (AFN), which broadcasts to troops deployed overseas, would continue to carry Carlson’s show.

“By instruction we are required to broadcast and make available for men and women and their families overseas the same type of content, news, information and sports content that their fellow citizens can get, so his show is aired on AFN,” Kirby said.

“I would hope that in the reaction he’s seeing, and hopefully in our reaction here today, that he’ll realize the mistake he made and express some regret about the manner in which he essentially demeaned the entire U.S. military, and how we defend and how we serve this country,” he added.

Spokespeople for Fox News did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the backlash to Carlson’s segment among military leaders.

Several top Army officers took to Twitter to hit back at Carlson.

“Thousands of women serve honorably every day around the globe,” tweeted Gen. Paul Funk, commanding officer of the Army Training and Doctrine Command. “They are beacons of freedom and they prove Carlson wrong through determination and dedication. We are fortunate they serve with us.”

Funk’s deputy, Lt. Gen. Ted Martin, posted a photo of his daughter in combat fatigues and said “contrary to what you may be hearing this WOMAN & 1000’s of WOMEN like her are NOT ‘making a mockery of our military.’ ”

“You WISH your daughter was as AWESOME as MINE! so BACK OFF,” Martin added.

Maj. Gen. Pat Donahoe, commander of Fort Benning and the Army Maneuver Center of Excellence, posted a video of himself conducting a reenlistment ceremony for a female soldier as “a reminder that @TuckerCarlson couldnt be more wrong.”

Command Sgt. Maj. Rocky Carr, the senior enlisted leader at Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, posted a picture of him and his wife after a 5 kilometer race near Fort Hood and noted she was the overall top finisher.

“Side note: she was 12 weeks pregnant with our daughter. #soHooah,” Carr tweeted.

The Army’s official Twitter account also appeared to wade into the controversy Thursday, tweeting several photos of female soldiers alongside messages about their capabilities, though the tweets did not directly address Carlson.

“I am an American Soldier. I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America, in close combat,” read one tweet that included a photo of a woman operating an M2 .50-caliber machine gun.

The command senior enlisted leader of U.S. Space Command, Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sgt. Scott Stalker, meanwhile, dismissed Carlson’s comments as being “based on zero days of service in the armed forces.”

The military’s maternity policies, which Stalker stressed were informed by medical professionals, “actually makes a more lethal and ready and fit force,” he said in a video posted to Twitter on Thursday.

  20. CHICAGO — A suburb of Chicago is setting a precedent for racial equality as it moves forward in becoming the first city in the country to fund reparations for its Black residents — but some residents say it doesn’t go far enough to truly be called reparations.

Evanston, just north of Chicago, voted to approve a groundbreaking measure in 2019 in which the city would financially compensate its Black residents to address the wealth and opportunity gaps they have experienced because of historical racism and discrimination.

Using community donations and revenue from a 3 percent tax collected on the sale of recreational cannabis, the city adopted a reparations fund and pledged to distribute $10 million over 10 years.

Since then, Evanston officials have been putting together a plan to disburse the money, eventually deciding that the first $400,000 will be dedicated to address housing needs.

The City Council is expected to vote March 22.

  23. 8th March 2021 ‘Love Erdo?an’ billboards pop up across Turkey to counter ‘Stop Erdo?an’ ad in US
    https://newsaboutturkey.com/2021/03/08/love-erdogan-billboards-pop-up-across-turkey-to-counter-stop-erdogan-ad-in-us/
Billboards that read “LOVE ERDO?AN” were erected in municipalities run by Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in support of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an after a “STOP ERDOGAN” billboard in New York City’s Times Square angered AKP officials.
The sign in Times Square was paid for by the US-based nonprofit Advocates of Silenced Turkey.
AKP spokesperson Ömer Çelik branded the sign as the work of the Gülen movement, a faith-based group outlawed by Ankara.
Following a coup attempt on July 15, 2016, the Turkish government and President Erdo?an pinned the blame on the Gülen movement, describing it as a terrorist organization.
Fethullah Gülen, who inspired the movement, strongly denied having any role in the failed coup and called for an international investigation into it, but President Erdo?an — calling the coup attempt “a gift from God” — and the government initiated a widespread purge aimed at cleansing sympathizers of the movement from within state institutions, dehumanizing its popular figures and putting them in custody.
“FETÖ [a derogatory acronym referring to the Gülen group as a terrorist organization] is an enemy of Turkey and hence our president. This treacherous network added to their betrayals by targeting our president with ads filled with lies. Their attacks on our president stem from their enmity towards our people,” Çelik tweeted.
Turks denounced the campaign, tweeting that the ads looked “Orwellian,” while some alluded to Stalin’s personality cult.
Signs in Kurdish that read “We love Erdo?an” appeared in Kurdish-majority cities, sparking backlash from Kurds who also took to Twitter to denounce the move.
The Erdo?an administration replaced 59 out of 65 elected mayors from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) with government appointees after the 2019 local elections.

Majority of Turks disapprove of Erdo?an’s performance

According to a recent survey 47.8 percent of Turks disapprove of Erdo?an’s performance as president, while his approval rating remained at 46 percent. Some 6.2 percent of respondents said they have no idea or gave no answer when asked if they approve of Erdo?an’s performance as president.
Erdo?an, whose AKP has been in power as a single party government since 2002, was elected president in 2014 and reelected in 2018. His election in 2018 was under a presidential system as Turkey switched from a parliamentary to a presidential system of governance with a public referendum in 2017. Under the presidential system, Erdo?an is accused of establishing one-man rule, destroying the separation of powers and silencing dissent.
The AKP government launched a massive crackdown on non-loyalist citizens following the failed 2016 coup as thousands of people were jailed on trumped-up terrorism or coup charges.

  25. NYC School ‘Inclusive Language’ Guide Encourages Students to Stop Saying ‘Mom,’ ‘Dad’

A private K-12 school in Manhattan is encouraging its students to stop using the terms “mom,” “dad” and “parents,” in an effort to make the campus a more “welcoming and inclusive” space.

In a 12-page “inclusive language” guide (pdf), the Grace Church School recommends that students, staff, and parents “remove harmful assumptions” from the way they interact. For example, “grown-ups,” “folks,” “family” or “guardians” are considered better alternatives to “mom,” “dad” and “parents,” because they allege the latter contain assumptions about what a “typical” family looks like.

“Families are formed and structured in many ways,” the language guide states. “At Grace Church School, we use inclusive language that reflects this diversity. It’s important to refrain from making assumptions about who kids live with, who cares for them, whether they sleep in the same place every night, whether they see their parents, etc.”

It added that “traditional family” is an outdated term. “We actively try to undo notions of a ‘typical’ or ‘normal’ family structure,” the school says. “Each family is unique.”

  26. Turkey: Erdo?an’s War on Peace

There are signs that more and more Kurds in Turkey feel disenchanted by the hawkish policy of Islamist President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an. A poll in February found that a quarter of Kurds who had previously voted for Erdo?an said they would not vote for him again. Erdo?an’s war on peace may prove self-defeating. The race for the Istanbul election on March 31, 2019 went full steam ahead. Islamist parties had controlled Turkey’s biggest city since 1994 – a full 25 years. Istanbul was not just another city to win for any party. Turkey’s Islamist president, Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, had put it: “Who wins Istanbul, wins Turkey.”

In the run-up to the 2019 election, Erdo?an realized that his Justice and Development Party (AKP) might lose if Istanbul’s two million or so Kurds voted for the opposition candidate, Ekrem ?mamoglu. What to do? State broadcaster TRT read a statement from Abdullah Öcalan, the jailed leader of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a terrorist organization. Öcalan’s letter called on Kurds to remain neutral between the government and opposition candidates. That would result in de facto support for the AKP candidate, former Prime Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m.

  27. Middle East: The Ghosts of Sovereigns Past
    Naomi Linder Kahn
    6-8 minutes

In short, the legal and legislative vacuum that has resulted from Israel’s well-intentioned decision to retain Ottoman and Jordanian law in the territories that came under its legal jurisdiction over 50 years ago continues to deprive both the Arabs and Jews who live there of their basic rights. Pictured: King Hussein of Jordan visits an army post in the disputed territories known as Judea and Samaria — or the “West Bank” (of the Jordan River), on June 5, 1967. Now that the debate surrounding the extension of Israeli sovereignty to the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria has abated somewhat in light of the Abraham Accords, the time may be ripe to take a closer look at the legal status of these territories.

The picture that emerges might be surprising. More than a century after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, the empire’s ghost continues to reign. More than 50 years after Israel’s victory in the Six Day War, more than 30 years after King Hussein of Jordan publicly relinquished all legal and administrative ties to this territory, and more than 25 years after Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel, officially relinquishing all territorial claims, the State of Israel continues to enforce Jordanian law — despite its clearly racist and backward underpinnings.

  28. China: National People’s Congress votes to adopt Hong Kong electoral reform

During the fourth session of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) in China, the nation’s top legislature voted overwhelmingly to approve a proposal which they claim improves Hong Kong’s electoral system. The meeting took place in Beijing on Thursday and was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“The meeting made a decision to improve the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. All the delegates highly endorsed and expressed the firm determination of the people of all ethnic groups, including Hong Kong compatriots, to safeguard the national sovereignty, security and development interests, as well as to maintain Hong Kong’s constitutional order,” stated chairman of the National People’s Congress Li Zhanshu.

The NPC members voted with an almost absolute majority of 2,895 in favour of the proposal. Only one voter abstained from voting and the proposal received zero votes against.

The reform paves the way for the Chinese Communist Party to exert more control on the appointment of Hong Kong’s lawmakers. It means that the number of committee members responsible for choosing Hong Kong’s Chief Executive and many of the members of the Hong Kong legislative council increase to 1,500. The number of seats in the legislative council will also be increased to a total of 90.

  29. How Israel’s Mossad Turned the IAEA around on Iran with Evidence – analysis

Though the ayatollahs tried to complain that it was wrong for the IAEA to take sides and accept the Mossad information as valid over their denials, Grossi was unwilling to look the other way.

One of the most fascinating art forms in geopolitics and the spy world has got to be the IAEA dance with the Mossad and Iran.

In the last few years the IAEA’s approach to the Mossad and Iran has gone through at least three renditions: from “hear no evil, see no evil” to a readiness for confrontation to last week’s transition to some kind of a middle path.…

Former IAEA director-general Yukiya Amano had signed off in 2015 on the idea that Iran had come clean enough on past “possible military dimensions” of its nuclear program. Then, after the Mossad raided Iran’s secret nuclear archives in 2018, it provided the IAEA with volumes of Iranian nuclear documents which proved otherwise.…

This very slow dance between the Mossad, the IAEA and Iran continued throughout Amano’s term until his unexpected death in July 2019 and even beyond, until current IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi took over his job in December 2019.…

  31. Egyptair to Replace Sinai Air on Tel Aviv-Cairo Route

Egypt’s national airline Egyptair is seeking to replace Air Sinai on flights to Israel, officials confirmed to i24News.

Former President Hosni Mubarak had refused to let the national carrier land in Israel with an Egyptian flag. Air Sinai operates 7 flights a week in aircraft with no Egyptian flag. Egyptair is seeking to operate 21 flights a week.…

The development comes as Egypt views historic the Abraham Accords between Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, as dramatically lessening tensions in the region and opening new possibilities for travel and commerce.

Cairo believes Egyptair can also benefit financially especially from connecting flights since Israel and Egypt are stopovers to the African continent, according to officials.
