Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    The Los Angeles Times reported a truly bizarre incident at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, in which a group of anti-vaxx protesters supposedly got the vehicle entrance to the COVID vaccination site there shut down for about an hour.

    Cars were lined up bringing folks anxious to get their vaccines, and people posting to social media described having to wait for the situation to be rectified. Such an act of malicious interference would be justifiably considered intolerable, and we’d expect the police to respond quickly and forcefully to open the entrance and keep it free of protesters.

    “THE Iranian spy chief accused of masterminding a bomb plot in Paris was found with a notebook detailing the full extent of his European network, it has been revealed.

    A green notebook, found in Assadollah Assadi’s car when he was arrested in Germany, meticulously detailed 289 places across 11 European countries where he is believed to have made contact with agents of the regime. Assad – who faces being jailed for up to 20 years on Thursday – was acting as a diplomat in Vienna when he is accused of personally transporting 500g of “mother of Satan” TATP explosives for an planned 2018 attack on the Free Iran political rally in Paris, hosted by pro-democracy group National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

    In reality, he was Europe bureau chief for the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security.

    The conference at the packed Villepinte stadium was attended by 80,000 NCRI supporters and their families as well as dignitaries including Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, former Canadian PM Stephen Harper and 38 UK MPs and delegates including former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Theresa Villiers.

    Pretending to go on holiday with his family, Asssadi met with two accomplices at a Pizza Hut in Luxembourg, two days before the bomb was due to go off, and handed them the explosives at a Pizza Hut.

    Normally based in Antwerp, Amir Saadouni and Nasimeh Naami were also handed a USB stick with detailed instructions, a new phone and an envelope containing £16,000.

    The instructions describe how the bomb should be charged and prepared before being wrapped in plastic foil, a safety cordon ranging from 50 meters to 300 meters respected before activation by pushing a remote control for 3 seconds.

    They were tasked with delivering the device, which Naami placed in a blue toiletry bag, to a third accomplice Mehrdad Arefani, who would attend the conference posing as a supporter of NCRI.

    The plot was foiled at the last minute by German and Belgian security services.

    But Assadi’s green notebook shows the true extent of his european connections.

    Of the 289 locations meticulously listed, 86 were landscapes and various visiting sites, 53 were stores, 45 were restaurants and 23 were hotels.

    Though ostensibly a diplomat based at the Iran;s Viennese embassy, only 38 were in Austria, barely 13 percent of the total.

    Germany featured most heavily, with 114 locations, followed by 42 locations in France.

    Other countries he visited include Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and Luxembourg.

    It can further be revealed that, while on remand, Assadi was visited by Reza Lotfi, a senior Iranian official in Iran who acts as liaison between the MOIS and Iran’s foreign ministry.

    His job includes overseeing operations of MOIS stations in embassies and reporting his findings simultaneously to MOIS minister Mahmoud Alavi and to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Javad Zarif.

    Farzin Hashemi from the National Council of Resistance of Iran said: “The regime’s espionage network in Europe, which is used for terror plots like the one in Paris, should be exposed and destroyed and the EU should demand from Tehran to dismantle it terror apparatus, giving reliable guarantees that will never commit a similar plot or risk facing severing diplomatic relations.”

    Last week a group of more than 20 former EU senior officials demand that EU addresses Iran’s terrorism and human rights abuses.

    These include former Foreign and Home Office ministers from the UK, France, Germany and Italy, a former PM and President of Romania and a slew of other ministers from Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Finland and Iceland.

    In a joint statement they urged the EU to “designate Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and the IRGC in their entirety as terrorist entities”, adding: “The undisputed evidence in the terrorist Villepinte case indicates that the involvement of Iranian authorities at the highest level has been upgraded into plans for mass murder.

    “The EU must take firm action. To do otherwise would provide impunity for the Iranian regime and embolden them to carry out further terrorist attacks in Europe.”

    Assadollah was arrested in Germany as he tried to cross the border back into Austria. His defence has relied on his assertion that he should be given diplomatic immunity, which was rejected.

    Prosecutors have called for him to be given the maximum of 20 years in jail, while Saadouni and Naami face 18 years in prison, and Arefani 15 years.

    A judge will deliver the verdict and sentencing in Antwerp, Belgium, on Thursday.”

    “A hotel in Somalia’s capital has been hit by an explosion and an attack by jihadist rebels, police have confirmed.

    A vehicle loaded with explosives crashed into the entrance gate of the Afrik hotel, near Mogadishu’s strategic K-4 junction, on Sunday afternoon, police spokesman Sadiq Adan Ali said.

    A number of armed gunmen then quickly invaded the hotel, opening fire on staff and patrons inside, he said. Government forces responded to the attack and gunfire could be heard coming from the hotel. Police rescued many people from the hotel, including its owner and an army general.

    At least seven wounded civilians could be seen although police did not immediately give casualty figures.

    Al-Shabab, Somalia’s homegrown jihadist rebels, claimed responsibility for the attack through their Andalus radio station.

    “We know, they have changed nothing from their usual tactic, ramming explosives into a building and following up, assaulting with rifles,” said Ali.

    In a separate incident, at least eight children have died and scores of others were wounded when a bomb went off in the Golweyn area, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the coastal town of Merca, some 120 kilometers (74 miles) south of Mogadishu.”

    “Police in southeast England said Sunday that they have made a further nine arrests at a former army barracks, which has been used to house hundreds of asylum-seekers and where a suspected arson attack took place.

    Kent Police said in a statement that 14 people have now been arrested following a “disturbance” on Friday at the site in the coastal town of Folkestone, which saw windows smashed and a building set alight.

    Five men previously arrested in connection with the unrest remain in custody. One of them, 31-year-old Mohammed Ali, has been charged “with assault by beating, using or threatening unlawful violence and criminal damage.” He is due to appear in court on Monday.

    Police said no serious injuries were reported as a result of the attack, even though a “significant amount of damage was caused to one part of the site following a fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately.”…”

    “A man who stabbed a police officer in the chest in London has received a prison term of less than three years.

    41-year-old Mohin Hussain had been approached by patrol officers in London while being observed keeping his hand in a satchel strapped across his chest, with a search being attempted due to his answers to their questions and “odd behaviour”.

    As one of the officers got out of his patrol car to initiate the search, “Hussain pushed the car door against him and at this point removed his hand from the bag and punched the officer in the upper right of his chest before fleeing the scene,” recalls an official news bulletin from the Metropolitan Police.

    Hussain was successfully detained after a Taser was trained on him — but not fired — during a foot chase, at which point the “punched” officer realised he had in fact been stabbed with a Stanley knife.

    For this, a judge at Southwark Crown Court sentenced Hussain to a prison sentence of just two years for “Section 20 wounding”, plus six months for being in possession of a bladed article — to be served consecutively rather than concurrently, as is often the case.

    It is possible Hussain will serve significantly less than two years and six months actually in prison, however, as most criminals in Britain handed non-“life” sentences are entitled to automatic early release on licence halfway or, more rarely, two-thirds of the way through their term…”

    New York state Democratic Attorney General Letitia James dropped a bombshell report on Thursday alleging that the number of coronavirus-related deaths at nursing homes in New York could be undercounted by as much as 50%. When New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) was pressed about the accuracy of the state’s nursing home deaths, he lashed out with a response that the New York Post called “callous.”

    The scathing report found that the state counted only coronavirus-related deaths that occurred at nursing homes and long-term care facilities, but did not count nursing home residents who died at hospitals after being transferred there for medical care.

    During a press conference on Friday, WHEC-TV reporter Jennifer Kewke asked Cuomo, “Governor, your staff is often unapologetically aggressive when it comes to defending your policies, particularly on social media. But in this case, many of the people who disagree with this nursing home policy have a very personal connection to it, they lost a loved one during this pandemic with a connection to a nursing home. So, the policy itself aside…who was right, who was wrong… just as a father and son yourself, what would your message be to those families today?

    A number of Reddit users on the popular r/WallStreetBets forum have said they are planning to launch a coordinated effort to target silver as their next short-squeeze target.

    Posts encouraged individuals to use the IShares Silver Trust, the largest silver exchange-traded fund, and carry out what one user called the “BIGGEST SHORT SQUEEZE IN THE WORLD.”

    “Silver Bullion Market is one of the most manipulated on earth. Any short squeeze in silver paper shorts would be EPIC,” a user on Reddit’s WallStreetBets wrote. “We know billion banks are manipulating gold and silver to cover real inflation. Both the industrial case and monetary case, debt printing has never been more favorable for the No. 1 inflation hedge Silver.”

    It came after purchases of hot stocks like GameStop, KOSS, and AMC were restricted by various platforms, sparking calls by members of Congress for an investigation into whether there was collusion by hedge funds and platforms like Robinhood. Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev described that assertion in media interviews this week as a “conspiracy theory.”

  37. Iran: Supreme Leader Khamenei visits Imam Khomeini shrine in Tehran

    Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei paid homage to the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in a private visit to his mausoleum in Tehran, state TV footage showed on Sunday.

    The visit marked the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s return to Tehran on February 1, 1979, in the lead up to the Islamic Revolution in the country.

    Walking alone in the mausoleum, Iran Supreme leader prayed next to Khomeini shrine before visiting the near-by Zahra cemetery where Iranians soldiers lay in rest. The visit was kept small and private because of safety and health reasons amid the ongoing COVID threat.

    Each year in Iran, the Islamic Revolution is commemorated for 10 days around February 1, a period known as ‘Ten-Day Dawn.’ Last year’s ceremony attracted thousands of visitors.

    Last month, as he started shaping his future Cabinet, President-elect Joe Biden promised to form a team that offers a better representation of America as it is. Judging by the welcome that his Cabinet has received across the globe, one may conclude that he has delivered on his promise.

    According to media reports, the Biden team has been “warmly received” in Canada, Mexico and Western Europe, among other places. Radio France Internationale even reports “a sense of jubilation” in Abuja because Biden’s team includes several Nigerian-Americans at its second tier. In Tehran, the media take note of the inclusion of five or six Iranian-Americans in the new team with the hope that their presence would help change Washington’s policy towards Iran.

    During the run-up to the 2020 election, Joe Biden was evasive about the subject of court packing. About the closest he came to expressing an opinion was in early October when he intimated he is “not a fan of court packing” but then went on to submit, “Look, what I want them to focus on, as I’ve respectfully suggested, court packing is going on now,” whatever that meant.

    Now the Daily Mail reports that Biden is indeed moving forward with setting up a commission to study Supreme Court reforms which could pave the way for “court-packing.”

    Biden repeatedly refused to state his position on court-packing during his campaign but did vow to set up a commission to study judiciary reforms.

  42. OSWEGO, N.Y. — State Supreme Court Justice Scott DelConte on Friday ruled against batches of dozens of votes that Democrat Anthony Brindisi hoped would count in the ongoing 22nd Congressional District.

    His ruling all but ensures that Republican Claudia Tenney has won the seat in the House of Representatives following a three-month ordeal that made the 22nd district the only undecided Congressional race in the country.

    Brindisi’s efforts to keep his seat suffered two major blows on Friday. First, Oneida County officials reported that Tenney had grown her lead by 93 votes after they reviewed more than 1,000 as-of-yet uncounted ballots in search of voters who applied to vote on time but were erroneously left unregistered by Election Day.

    Yellen listed $952,200 in income from speeches to Citi, one of the nation’s largest banks. She also disclosed speaking fees from PIMCO, Barclays (BCS), Citadel, BNP Paribas, UBS (UBS), Credit Suisse (CS), ING, Standard Chartered Bank and City National Bank.

    When Trump turned the private residence into a social club, he had agreed with the town to limit his stays at Mar-a-Lago, and now some Palm Beach residents say he is violating that agreement.

    Years ago, the horrors of the holocaust paved the way for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; however, our basic right to freedom of religion or belief is still being trampled in societies ruled by totalitarian regimes.

    In communist China, practicing a certain faith, printing, or even reading religious books could result in prison terms and abuse. Spiritual believers in China—be it Christians, Buddhists, Uyghur Muslims, or Falun Gong practitioners—are faced not only with brutal suppression or forced-labor terms but also have their religious books burned or trashed at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

    The coercive policies are aimed at forcing these religious followers to renounce their faith and follow the communist ideologies based on atheism and Marxism.

    Republican lobbyist and Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) organizer Matt Schlapp said his young daughters and wife were “accosted by one of our neighbors” over their politics.

    “My wonderful wife and my two youngest girls, 9 and 10, were accosted by one of our neighbors, a few doors away,” Schlapp wrote on Twitter early on Saturday evening. “When either side turns their politics into intimidation it is wrong. In this case it may well be a crime. Disagree w me all you want but leave my girls alone. I mean it.”

    Schlapp added that he would not disclose the name of the person who allegedly accosted his family.

    “If this ‘neighbor’ apologizes in person to my wife and two young girls it would be accepted. No one should tell a 9 year old to [expetive] off,” he wrote. “No one. Especially over politics. If Democrats of stature act like this I really don’t want to hear about unity not one second more.”

    Schlapp said he wishes him “no harm.”

    The murder had far-reaching consequences for England, but the immediate result was that Henry II had to make peace with the Church. He did this four years later by performing penance at Canterbury Cathedral. He was beaten by eighty monks while wearing sack cloth and ashes and spent the night in vigil at Saint Thomas Becket’s tomb. The Church had wasted no time and had canonized Becket in 1173. He also had to promise to raise money for the Crusades and to either mount a Crusade or make a pilgrimage. He did neither. There was enough to do at home.
