Reader’s Links for January 19, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Some Thoughts On What May Be Coming January 20th
Posted on January 18, 2021 by Anonymous Conservative
There have been a lot of little details which have bothered me as we have followed this path. Little pieces which did not fit, if things were as they were being sold to us. One of the more prominent pieces is Biden. The best argument was China wanted him because he was owned the most completely. But they own everyone. Why choose the worst possible option, that would make the fraud so blatantly obvious? Surely they could have found somebody who didn’t have dementia, wasn’t a child-sniffing, child-groping perv who exposed himself to female Secret Service agents, and whose family wasn’t so obviously corrupt. Why not somebody like Corey Booker or even Michelle Obama, with no videos of them groping children and some semblance of mental competence? And then there is Harris. Blacks hate her for what Tulsi exposed. Women hate her just because they can read other women. I can’t hear her nasally whining voice sanctimoniously preaching to me without wanting to vomit. And just practically, she had brutal poll numbers in the primary and had to drop out early because even leftists couldn’t stand her. Why the two worst candidates possible?

And then there is their publicizing of their agenda. Massive gun control. Free immigration. Tax increases. Openly pushing for transgenders in every bathroom and female competition. Climate taxes sent overseas to the Paris Accord. Free Speech limitations, selling us out to China, destroying the economy, eliminating coal, reducing energy production and pipelines, and vaccines for everyone whether you want them or not, courtesy of FEMA. Even less policing, support for Antifa and BLM, and reparations. There is even talk of re-education camps from AOC, and of course we all know that from here on out, we will never elect another leader, left or right. As I keep saying, every day they make this the turning point, where we see our way of life teetering on the edge. They should really put us at ease now, allay our fears, preach all the concessions they will make to us to unite our country, and then months from now, launch all of these leftist programs, piece by piece, as surprise attacks passed in the dark of night, and hidden by a media who will not mention any of it.

If China were trying to win, it makes no sense, because they have ignored every tenet of Sun Tzu. If it is democrats, it makes even less sense, because we know they are smarter than that. But suppose the Military were trying to launch a quasi-extra-Constitutional coup because Cabal has successfully structured itself so the Constitution protects it?

Normally a quasi-extra-Constitutional coup is something which could cause an armed response from the armed population, ie us. But how many of you with guns want to stand up and fight for what we clearly see coming down the line with Biden now? They have stripped us of any reason to fight, even for the Constitution, which has just become a mockery used against us by the left. If getting us to sit on our hands were the goal, Biden/Harris in an obviously fraudulent election, broadcasting the agenda they have broadcast, was the perfect ticket. It is like Q said, people have to be taken to the brink, where they feel they have no other option.

It might point to “Patriots in control” meaning they are giving Biden his orders as well. I think that fits with the observed data better. To that end, Q would also be a master stroke, as it drew in all of the conspiracy-minded folk, most likely to see the ominous undertones of such a broad application of raw power, and programmed them to see it as not ominous, but rather as their own kind fighting and freeing us from the ominous.

This might mean what is about to happen will shock us as well, and the 26,000 troops are actually insurance, just in case we were to show up to stop this too. Clearly if this is an anti-Cabal operation, that is what Cabal would attempt to push for. Everyone, led by their Antifa foot soldiers storming the Bastille, preferably the MAGA forces first over the fences.

I would actually be quite worried at this point, if Donald Trump had not been involved with this, and put himself at what I think was genuine risk to do this. Of course that, and the fact I see some shadow operation surrounding us and already exerting an incredible, intolerable degree of control over our lives, and even killing people. At this point there are very few future paths that could be more dystopian than having watchers watching you in your house, spraying you with emf and infrasound if they don’t like a shitpost you posted to /pol, and following you everywhere you go in real life.

As time goes on in life, you become ever more sensitive to the machinations of life’s manipulators, and this has all the feelings of a major psychological manipulation of everyone. It is just a little bit oversold.

If I look for how this might be done successfully, I think the most workable outcome might be President Trump will actually fly off into the sunset for now as a former President, and some Military organization, perhaps with a public-relations face of somebody who will be seen as a non-partisan victim of this thing will take the reins temporarily. My guess would be they would prefer somebody from the Democrat side, but Cabal-free, with a glowing endorsement from President Trump to be their public face, just for reasons of minimizing citizen resistance. I could see them bringing in somebody like RFK, or perhaps more likely Tulsi, just to sell it to the left. The rumor they might bring somebody back from the dead, like Seth Rich, is also possible. If need be they may go down the line of Presidential succession until they find a suitably non-partisan face, free from Cabal to lead it, but my guess is the real power will be somewhere less political.

That would herald a strange period, as things are cleaned up, before a revote would be held under non-negotiable, fraud-proof rules designed by the Military, most probably reinstalling President Trump for a second term in a transparent election.

I will still be fairly apprehensive if Trump is removed now from the equation, as even Donald Trump could be false-flagged. I would much rather see him running this. But even if he is not, given the power of the surveillance to monitor, the ambiguity of the circumstances, the fact we are presently under a fully unconstitutional dictatorship, and the fact Trump has at least some reason to support it, our best bet is obviously observation. For now.

Again, it is a weird scenario to propose, but no stranger than a Chinese asset being installed by a fraudulent election which we know will sink the US into a shadow dictatorship dedicated to destroying America for China.

And, if this is not yet another Cabal script to clean the dead wood out of their network and re-establish their control anew, it might actually be a workable way to purge this network from our nation.

    M…I await the sneers

    • There has never been a sneer for this hyperbol from Anonymous Conservatives that was dropped in from a recent meteor storm.

“Some Thoughts On What May Be Coming” would be have been great – if they were based on facts and not internet talking points, memes and fears.

It’s simply an observation that this is as real as the “Interviews with my son in Heaven. After my son, Erik Medhus, took his own life, he began to visit friends, family and the readers of my blog, Channeling Erik. Eventually, he began to share what he had learned from the Other Side.”

Engaging feelings of Love and Hate are the weapons that battle Good and Evil – the sockpuppets that islam, Communism and Sexualism use to demoralize a nation. And the war is lost no matter how many defensive weapons are possessed.

So just be objective, do not hold a guard up for them to walk around, and see what kind of people stormed the Capitol.

For yes, they too were also alongside others who believed that their feelings and thoughts were their own..

Feel a tug, and let it go before they draw people into their shop front and be taken to secret spaces to radicalize.

The Evolutionary Psychology Behind Politics: How Conservatism and Liberalism Evolved Within Humans, Third Edition”

“r/K selection theory relates to the selection of combinations of traits in an organism that trade off between quantity and quality of offspring. The focus on either an increased quantity of offspring at the expense of individual parental investment of r-strategists, or on a reduced quantity of offspring with a corresponding increased parental investment of K-strategists.” – wiki

“r/K Theory examines how all populations tend to adopt one of two psychologies as a means of adapting their behavior to the presence or absence of environmental resources. The two strategies, termed r and K, each correlate perfectly with the psychologies underlying Liberalism and Conservatism.” – book publicist.

The fact is, humans have less children when women have control of their own reproduction, improved standards of living and an education.

Racial genes do not determine Liberalism and Conservatism, the turning to the State or the turning to a God, but the lack of souls: those actively denied they have and those dhimmi’d under the ground to be redeemed for the glorious Day After. A Dear Leader or Prophet cried out for because they cannot lead themselves. Nurture, not Nature that they claim to be endowed.

Cast Consciousness and Racial Superiority permit the extermination of their Unbelievers.

The Far Left. And the Far Far Left.

    • Thank you! That is a definite bite however drowned. You comments about speculation I find quite funny as in the absence of the absolute truth what else is there? Exactly how many posts here are proven to be established fact? Most video makers and article writers have a bias.
However I will apologize for the deliberate troll as that was my fault.

  2. Day was closing up its shop
As I strolled then into the park
    Surrounded by the buzz
Of light’s late flight into the night
    And another day that was.

    Walking from an argument
    I thought I’d take a break
But even in the murky dusk
    The bushes seemed to grumble
    And all around the animus
    Of fire seemed to take.

Then from the corner of my eye
I caught what seemed a spark
    Flickering electrically
    Abandoned in the dark
Sitting on this one park bench
    A word alone, quite stark.

I glanced around to see the loser
    Of this unowned word
    Some letters and some syllables
    –A funny-looking bird
    An orphan of the chaos
    An urchin of the street
    A meaningless assemblage
Like a drum without a beat.

I saw no claimant to this thing
So snatched it from the bench
Thinking, now, my ship was in
    –My luck had finally turned
A word that had no meaning
    Was a golden voice unheard.

    Foolishly, along the way
    Back to my abode
I showed the word to others just
To see what they would say
    And each without exception gave
    A headshake and a nay.

    Confident and cocky, then,
That this thing would go unclaimed
I showed it just to one last guy
    –A Marxist on my way
A man who wore a beard and sandals
    And seemed born to dismay.

    “Aha!” he shouted gleefully
    His eyes exploding wide
“You’ve found the treasure that I’ve lost,
I can’t believe my eyes! Looking high and low, to now, I’d given up all hope. So thank you, Sir, and thanks, again, for returning this to me. A word without a meaning is, well, the saddest sight to see.”

As a decent man I gave it back
    Its owner now so glad
Walking on I admit I felt
    Remorseful and quite sad
Then shook my sorrow off, did I
Just a few steps down my path
    The voice inside my head
    Not knowing I’d been had.

For I had seen a word quite lost
    Devoid of use and power
A word of broken springs and parts
    Without a clear design
A broken toy just left for junk
    The Marxist’s favourite kind.

The next day as I walked again
    Along my beaten way
I turned a corner on the street
    But also in my mind
And there ablaze in marquee lights
    Was that word reborn pristine
    Plowshares into swords
    And this orphaned word to
    War machine.

    • “According to Ginsberg’s bibliographer and archivist Bill Morgan, it was a terrifying peyote vision that was the principal inspiration for Howl. This occurred on the evening of October 17, 1954, in the Nob Hill apartment of Shiela Williams, then Ginsberg’s girlfriend, with whom he was living. Ginsberg had the terrifying experience of seeing the façade of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in the San Francisco fog as the monstrous face of a child-eating demon. As was his wont, Ginsberg took notes on his vision, and these became the basis for Part II of the poem”

“A short time before the composition of “Howl”, Ginsberg’s therapist, Dr. Philip Hicks, encouraged him to realize his desire to quit his market-research job and pursue poetry full-time and to accept his own homosexuality” – wiki

      Johnnyu, is that word “Peace”?

      • I thought for some time what the word would be, PC. The first word to pop to mind was “handshake”, given the significance of this age-old and now banned gesture of trust. In the end I thought this best be left ambiguous, for the collectivists and the tards strive to fill all vacuums, including that of soul and conscience. Thanks for reading, PC.

  3. German public broadcaster presents for its Turkish-speaking audience a photo of the meeting between the German Foreign Minister and the Turkish Foreign Minister in which neither is wearing a mask, and for its German audience a photo in which both are wearing a mask

The news channel Deutsche Welle (DW) exposed the advocates of wearing masks on January the 18th. While German language speakers saw the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heiko Maas, along with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Cavusoglu, wearing masks, Turks and other nations saw both politicians without masks in the same press release. Was the mask only put on for the photo to deceive the Germans? The suspicion is obvious (see the following tweet):

  4. To all the commenters here, I value your experience, opinions and thoughts.

We live in perhaps the greatest time in history as far as technology and wealth goes, however it seems that no matter how advanced we think we are there are dark forces pulling us back to poverty, depravity and serfdom.

I read someone describe the current dystopian situation we find ourselves in as a digital “Panoptigon”
“A digital prison where all prisoners of an institution can be observed by a single security guard, without the inmates being able to tell whether they are being watched”
Just so happens that our “security guard” wants us to accept what is unacceptable…. namely “incremental democide”.

I could go on but we are all time poor.

    • (it seems that no matter how advanced we think we are there are dark forces pulling us back to poverty, depravity and serfdom.)

Human nature hasn’t changed so people still have the same urges and desires that they have had throughout all of history. Mankind has lived through periods like this before (not as technologically advanced) and prevailed. Things are getting weird but they have been weird before, as long as we keep fighting we will win, it may take a while but we will win.

      • In all SF and elsewhere mankind is always portrayed as having evil inherent. IMO this is rubbish as ANY sentient species who is the primary predator on their planet did not arrive by being nice to all else. Add the fact that the greatest stimulus to technological advance is war and any species who can reach us is extremely unlikely to be pleasant. Certainly some older species may have mellowed but even then they would still keep their edge and need resources or they would not last long. Fantasy such as the ST “federation” is just that. However providing it does not exterminate us, war is the one thing that will give us weapons to keep them at bay as might become necessary one day.

        • Only the liberal SF says we are evil inherent the old hard science SF and us good and bad. You are right the only way any species can become the dominate species on their planet is by being the Alpha Predator. And war is the big stimulus for sudden and massive technological advances. Survival forces people to think outside the box and spend money on research they wouldn’t ordinarily spend.

As for the older races mellowing, if they mellow too much they become easy victims for the younger hungrier races.

  5. London stabbing spree: Police arrest man after three people stabbed in unexplained attacks (express, Jan 19, 2021)

“POLICE investigating a murder in North West London on January 11 that they have linked to two other non-fatal stabbings have arrested a man.

The 20-year-old male was arrested at an address in Neasden in the early hours of Tuessday morning on suspicion of murder and two counts of GBH with intent. He has been placed into custody at a North London police station. Police were called to Neasden Lane North in North West London shortly after 9.30pm on January 11 to reports of a man stabbed near the junction with Hazelwood Court.

Officers, along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London’s Air Ambulance, found 48-year-old Leon Street suffering stab injuries, but despite the best efforts of emergency services, he tragically died at the scene.

Police have linked this fatal stabbing to another attack around 10 minutes earlier at Neasden Lane near the bus stop close to the junction with Press Road.

The Met said the victim was stabbed by a lone male who escaped on foot from the scene.

The male victim, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment but has now been discharged.

Just under a week later on Sunday, January 17, a third man was stabbed in broad daylight, again in Neasden Lane North near the bus stop at the junction with Press Road, at around 9.50am.

The victim, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment to stab injuries, but the Met said his condition is not life-threatening.

Police had initially arrested two men, aged 47 and 33, on January 11 but released them without charge.

The 47-year-old arrested by officers was the victim of the first non-fatal stabbing.

Additional officers have been patrolling in Neasden since last Monday’s murder, with the Met confirming their presence has been stepped up in response to the further attack two days ago.

Local people are being urged to speak with these officers if they have any concerns or if they have any information that may assist police.

The Met said detectives retain an “open mind” as to the motive of the trio of stabbings, but none of the victims appeared to have been robbed and the attacker is not thought to have said anything significant to them.

North West BCU Commander Louis Smith said: “Although there has been an arrest overnight in this investigation, three stabbings, one of which was fatal, have occurred in Neasden Lane North in the past week, so I am urging residents in that area to be extra vigilant if they are out and about in the coming days.

“Due to the COVID regulations, the public should only be going outside if it is absolutely essential. However, if residents in the Neasden Lane North area do have to go outside I would urge them to be alert and totally aware of their surroundings.

“Residents can also be reassured that patrols in the area have been stepped up and they can expect to see increased police visibility in the area.”

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Williams (Specialist Crime) said: “We are making progress and following up a number of lines of enquiry, and our investigation is receiving really useful support from local people in and around Neasden. However, there are others who may have information that could help us…”

  6. Arab World Institute Head Regrets Signing Letter Proposing Decriminalization of Sex with Children (breitbart, Jan 19, 2021)

“The director of the French Arab World institute has expressed regret for signing a 1977 letter that called for decriminalising adults having sex with children.

Jack Lang, a former Socialist Party politician, former French minister, and former mayor, was confronted on Monday about his signing of a January 1977 letter published as an op-ed in the newspapers Le Monde and Libération and which argued for the decriminalisation of sexual acts with children.

The letter was also signed by French philosopher Michel Foucault and former Green Party member of the European Parliament Daniel Cohn-Bendit, the latter having written a book called The Great Bazaar in 1975 which detailed sexual encounters with children as young as five.

“There were many of us at the time who signed this platform: there was Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Michel Foucault, a series of intellectuals,” Lang told Europe1.

“It’s the unspeakable indeed. Since then, I fight, and I have fought, against incest, paedophilia, and sexual violence,” Lang said after being confronted with portions of the letter that decried children as young as 13 being denied an “emotional and sexual life”.

“Today, it is unacceptable and intolerable. Today, we are fighting against these incests […], the attacks on minors… It’s revolting. Before getting carried away: One day there were about 50 of us who wrote bullshit. What am I supposed to do? Immolate myself in front of you? I made a mistake. It was all bullshit, and that’s it,” he added.

Lang was also confronted with his prior relationship to American billionaire Jeffery Epstein, who had been arrested on child sex charges before allegedly taking his own life in a New York prison in 2019.

“Epstein has nothing to do with it. Someone can be for a moment a charming man, and then you discover three years later, he is a bastard. We’re not going to penalise people who have been kind to others they thought were charming until we found out they were garbage,” Lang said.

Decriminalising pedofilia was, for a while, a ‘trendy‘ cause that gained some acceptance in liberal-left intellectual circles in Europe. In the United Kingdom, a group called the ‘Pedophile Information Exchange’ (PIE) was affiliated with the mainstream campaign group National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL) in the 1970s.

This relationship came under scrutiny in the 2000s by which time former organisers and advocates from the NCCL had become senior ministers in Britain’s left-wing Labour government.

Then-leader of the House of Commons and Women’s and Equality minister Harriet Harman came under attack in 2009 when it was claimed she had lobbied the government in 1978 as the NCCL’s legal officer, arguing to soften the Protection of Children Bill, which sought to make pornographic images of those under 16 illegal. Harman was reported to be “furious” at the claims in 2014 and claimed to be the victim of a smear campaign.

Tony Blair’s health secretary Patricia Hewitt had also worked for the NCCL in the 1970s, rising to be its general secretary. She apologised for her role in 2014 after letters between her and PIE emerged, cut claimed she was “naive” at the time and said she never supported “vile” child abusers. Just days later, another letter was revealed in the UK Guardian newspaper in which Hewitt had defended the NCCL’s proposal to lower the age of consent ina reply to an outrages school teacher, who had written to the NCCL to criticise their policy.”

  7. Group: Angry mob targets radio station in north Afghanistan (abcnews, Jan 19, 2021)

“An angry mob ransacked a local radio station in northern Afghanistan last week after a mosque imam incited the attackers, claiming loud music played by the station had interfered with his prayer service, an international journalists group said Tuesday.

The International Federation of Journalists condemned the attack last Friday in the city of Kunduz, the capital of Kunduz province.

It quoted Mohsen Ahmad, director of the Zohra Radio that was targeted in the attack, as saying the mob had damaged station equipment and forced it to halt transmission for several hours. No one was hurt in the attack.

“The safety situation for journalists in Afghanistan must be a major priority for the Afghanistan government,” urged the Brusseles-based IFJ…”

  8. 1 dead, 27 migrants found on Greek island of Lesbos (abcnews, Jan 19, 2021)

“Greece’s coast guard says three men reported missing after a group of migrants were rescued in a remote part of the Aegean island of Lesbos have been found alive and well.

A search and rescue operation was launched Tuesday morning after 24 people were found on the southern part of the island, while the body of one person was recovered. The three missing men were found in a coastal area later and were in good health.

The group was believed to have arrived by boat from the nearby Turkish coast.

The short but often perilous journey from the Turkish coast to nearby Greek islands has been one of the most popular routes into the European Union for people fleeing conflict and poverty in the Mideast, Africa and Asia. Many make the journey in unseaworthy and grossly overcrowded inflatable dinghies or other boats.

A 2016 deal between the EU and Turkey stipulates that new arrivals be held on the islands pending deportation back to Turkey unless they successfully apply for asylum in Greece. The deal has led to massively overcrowded refugee camps on the Greek islands.”

  9. EU lashes Bosnia for failing to properly care for migrants (abcnews, Jan 19, 2021)

“The European Union’s top migration official on Tuesday criticized Bosnian authorities for failing to properly care for hundreds of migrants living in sub-zero temperatures on its territory, warning the Balkans country of its obligations if it hopes to join the EU.

Bosnia has faced sharp criticism for leaving around 1,000 people without shelter after a fire gutted the makeshift Lipa refugee camp near the northwest border with EU-member Croatia just before Christmas. The authorities at first said they would move the migrants to another location, but finally set up military tents at the site instead after locals elsewhere protested.

“Bosnia-Herzegovina must show it’s capable of managing migration. It must take responsibility, address the humanitarian situation,” Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson told EU lawmakers.

“As a country with a perspective of EU accession, we expect Bosnia-Herzegovina to work on sustainable, long-term solutions, to set up facilities evenly distributed across the full territory of the country,” Johansson said. She said she would visit the area in February.

The problem is not new. Bosnia has been widely criticized in recent years for mishandling the arrival of thousands of people, many fleeing war and poverty. The politically unstable and impoverished Balkan country is still recovering from its own war in the 1990s.

Divided into two feuding entities, Bosnia lacks a unified policy on migrants. The Serb-run part of the country has refused to accept any, and the overburdened northwestern region has complained it has been abandoned despite help from international organizations.

Migrants come to Bosnia with the aim of reaching Croatia before moving on into Western Europe. Many have complained about being pushed back, which is illegal under international refugee law, and violence at the hands of Croatia’s police.

Johansson said thanks to EU help, around 900 people at the site in Bosnia now have shelter in weather-proof tents, with access to heating and food supplies.

“Thanks to our action, the situation has improved, but only from grave to serious. Stopping immediate risk to life is the beginning, not the end, of ensuring acceptable, dignified living conditions,” she said.

The Lipa camp was only ever set up as a temporary measure to cope with the impact of the coronavirus over the summer. Bosnian central authorities wanted to move some migrants to a nearby facility at Bira, but local authorities blocked the move as protests erupted.

“Winter has a long way to run and I must admit that it is frustrating to have to set up tents and temporary shelters when we have an empty, fully equipped and winterized facility just 30 kilometers (19 miles) down the road,” Johansson said.”

  10. Migrants scale border fences to enter Spanish enclave (abcnews, Jan 19, 2021)

“More than 80 migrants have managed to scale the double frontier fence to enter Spain’s North African city enclave of Melilla from Morocco.

Some 150 people from sub-Saharan countries attempted the crossing at 7.30 a.m. Tuesday but police stopped many from entering the territory, the Spanish news agency Efe and other media outlets said.

Of the 87 who made it, nine were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crossing while the rest were taken to the city’s temporary migrant accommodation center while authorities study whether they can be deported. Most are normally released and ordered to leave Spain.

Comment from government offices in Melilla was not immediately possible.

Melilla and nearby Ceuta are two tiny Spanish coastal territories in northern Africa separated from Morocco by tall wire fences that are constantly monitored by police.

Efe said the crossing attempt was the biggest since last August when some 300 people tried but only 30 got across.

Separately, the Interior Ministry reported this week that migrant arrivals to Spain’s Canary Islands, one of the principal migrant routes from Africa, were up by more than 230% to 1,069 in the first two weeks of the year.

More than 23,000 people reached the islands by boat from Africa last year.

Some 2,250 people entered Ceuta and Melilla in 2020, according to ministry figures.”

  12. Afghan officials: Taliban attacks, violence kills dozens (abcnews, Jan 19, 2021)

“A wave of Taliban attacks and violence has killed dozens across Afghanistan, even as talks are underway between the government and the insurgents in Qatar, officials said Tuesday.

A statement from the defense ministry said four army soldiers were killed late Monday night in Taliban attacks on checkpoints in Kunduz province.

According to the ministry, 15 Taliban fighters were also killed and 12 were wounded. The details were impossible to independently verify as Kunduz is off limits to journalists and the Taliban hold sway across most of the province’s rural areas.

However, Ghulam Rabani Rabani, a provincial council member in Kunduz, gave a significantly higher casualty toll. At least 25 members of the security forces were killed by the Taliban in separate attacks in the Dasht-e-Archi district, including 13 soldiers and four policemen, he said.

At least eight other soldiers were killed near Kunduz city, the provincial capital, he said. Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the insurgents were behind all the attacks. The Taliban were able to seize weapons and ammunition from the checkpoints, he said.

Meanwhile, in southern Helmand province, Abdul Zahir Haqyar, administration chief in Washer’s district, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen on Monday night, said Abdul Nabi Elham, the provincial governor of Helmand.

Two of Haqyar’s bodyguards were wounded in the shooting. No one immediately claimed responsibility for that attack.

Separately, in southern Urozgan province, at least 10 people, including women and children, were wounded, when a sticky bomb placed on a motorcycle exploded, according to the provincial governor, Mohammad Omar Sherzad.

A private car belonging to police officers was the target of the explosion, he said.

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks in the capital of Kabul in recent months, including on educational institutions that killed 50 people, most of them students. IS has claimed responsibility for rocket attacks in December targeting the major U.S. base in Afghanistan. There were no casualties.

Taliban representatives and the Afghan government earlier this month resumed peace talks in Qatar, the Gulf Arab state where the insurgents maintain an office. The stop-and-go talks are aimed at ending decades of conflict. Frustration and fear have grown over the recent spike in violence, and both sides blame one another.

There has also been growing doubt lately over a U.S.-Taliban deal brokered by the outgoing Trump administration. That accord was signed last February. Under the deal, an accelerated withdrawal of U.S. troops ordered by Trump means that just 2,500 American soldiers will still be in Afghanistan when President-elect Joe Biden takes office on Jan. 20.”

  13. Turkey slaps advertising ban on Twitter, Pinterest (abcnews, Jan 19, 2021)

“Turkey on Tuesday slapped advertising bans on Twitter, Periscope and Pinterest over their non-compliance with a controversial new law that requires social media platforms to appoint legal representatives in the country.

The law — which human rights and media freedom groups say amounts to censorship — forces social media companies with more than one million users to maintain representatives in Turkey to deal with complaints about content on their platforms.

Companies that refuse to designate an official representative are subjected to fines, followed by advertising bans, and could face bandwidth reductions that would make their platforms too slow to use. The ban is on selling online space for ads, which is what many social media companies make their money from.

Facebook avoided the advertising ban after it announced Monday that it had begun the process of assigning a legal entity in Turkey, joining LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Dailymotion and the Russian social media site VKontakte, which have agreed to set up legal entities in Turkey.

“We hope that Twitter and Pinterest which have still not announced their representatives will rapidly take the necessary steps,” said Omer Fatih Sayan, the deputy minister in charge of communications and infrastructure, after the advertising bans for Twitter, it’s live video-streaming app, Periscope, and on the image sharing network, Pinterest, were announced on Turkey’s Official Gazette.

Sayan added: “It is our last wish to impose bandwidth reductions for social networks that insist on not complying with their obligations.”

Twitter said in an email to The Associated Press that it had no comment over Turkey’s move. There was no immediate response from Pinterest.

Under the law that came into effect in October, the local representative of social media companies would be tasked with responding to individual requests to take down content violating privacy and personal rights within 48 hours or to provide grounds for rejection. The company would be held liable for damages if the content is not removed or blocked within 24 hours.

The law also requires social media data to be stored in Turkey, raising concerns in a country where the government has a track record of clamping down on free speech.

The government insists the legislation is needed to combat cybercrime and to protect the rights of Turkish social media users.

Rights groups have said the decision by international tech companies to bow to Turkish pressure and appoint representatives would lead to censorship and violations of the right to privacy and access to information in a country where independent media is severely curtailed. The Freedom of Expression Association says more than 450,000 domains and 42,000 tweets have been blocked in Turkey since October.

Facebook said Monday it remained committed to maintaining free expression and other human rights in Turkey.”

Hillary Clinton: Check Trump’s phone records to see if he called Putin during Capitol riot
By Daily Caller News Foundation January 19, 2021

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday that President Donald Trump’s phone records should be checked to see if he called Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Capitol riot.

Rioters supporting Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol earlier this month, committing acts of vandalism and postponing the certification process as members of Congress were forced to evacuate the building. During a podcast interview with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Clinton suggested that Trump was in cahoots with Putin during the riot.

“I would love to see his phone records, to see whether he was talking to Putin the day that the insurgents invaded our Capitol,” Clinton, who lost the presidential race against trump in 2016, said. “But we all know that not just him, his enablers, his accomplices, his cult members, have the same disregard for democracy.”

  16. Swedish Govt Gave Millions to Groups That Could Claim 51%+ Migrant Background Members in 2020 (breitbart, Jan 19, 2021)

“The Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society (MUCF) paid out millions of Swedish kronor to ethnic associations last year.

MUCF paid out almost 19 million Swedish kronor (£1.7 million /$2.3 million) to 47 different ethnic minority associations during 2020. While the agency claims that 51 per cent of the members must be of foreign background, Statistics Sweden has previously announced it is illegal to keep such ethnic data.

According to a report from Nyheter Idag, the groups must also have at least 1,000 active paying members, have at least five local associations, be operational in at least three counties, and the members partially pay for their own activities.

The Bosnian-Herzegovinian National Association of Sweden based in Norrkoping received the largest grant of 862,753 kronor, followed by the Serbian National Association of Sweden, and the Kurdish Federation of Sweden.

Several Somali groups also received government cash, including the Somali National Association, located in the no-go Stockholm suburb of Kista, and the Somaliland National Association of Sweden, based in Uppsala.

In its 2020 report, the MUCF stated that it wanted to see more resources to audit grants for associations and review how the money is being used.

In the past, Swedish government money was found to have been spent on groups directly tied to extremist ideologies such as radical Islamic extremism. A report from August of last year claimed the country gave as much as 1.2 billion Swedish kronor (£104 million/$137 million) to groups with radical connections in the last five years.

In June 2020, Sweden’s top administrative court upheld an order for a Muslim youth group, Sveriges Unga Muslimer (SUM/Sweden’s Young Muslims), to repay around 1.4 million Swedish Krona (£119,000/$149,000) because the group was found to not “respect the ideas of democracy”.

Along with radical groups, Swedish taxpayer money also managed to flow directly to members of Islamic State, largely through welfare, child allowance, and education funding after they had left Sweden to join the terror group in the Middle East.”

  17. Hungary Govt to Stop ‘Shadowbanning’ of ‘Christian, Conservative, and Right-Wing’ Voices Online (breitbart, Jan 19, 2021)

“The Hungarian government is following Poland in moving against Big Tech, vowing action against the “shadowbanning” of “Christian, conservative, [and] right-wing opinions”.

“‘Shadowban’ means the act of social media providers secretly, for political purposes, restricting the visibility and access of our user profile without our knowledge about it,” explained Judit Varga, the Minister of Justice in Viktor Orbán’s national conservative government, in a statement shared on social media, claiming that she has herself had “personal experience” of such treatment at the hands of “Big Tech”.

“Tech companies thus violate all those fundamental democratic legal norms that form the basis of Western-type culture,” she accused, adding that “we could… only learn about the system-wide practice of shadow banning from a now-leaked voice recording of the Twitter CEO [Jack Dorsey].”

The Hungarian stateswoman linked to two recordings shared by James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas organisation to back up her allegations:…”

“To reduce their reach, Facebook also limits the visibility of Christian, conservative, right-wing opinions,” the justice minister continued, pledging to convene an “extraordinary meeting of the Digital Freedom Committee” in order to tackle such “systemic abuses”.

“I will also consult with the President of the Hungarian Competition Authority on the possibility of sanctioning unfair commercial practices,” she warned.

The Hungarian move against the increasingly censorious — and politically partial — companies which control a broad swathe of the public discourse through their ownership of key social media platforms follows a particularly aggressive move against tech censorship by the Polish government, which operates according to broadly similar principles and often co-operates with Budapest in international fora.

Polish justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro and deputy justice minister Sebastian Kaleta have unveiled a draft law which will empower a new Free Speech Board to hear appeals from social media users who believe they have been banned or had their content removed from social media platforms, and to order those platforms to reinstate them if the speech they were punished for was lawful under the Polish constitution.

Tech corporations which do not comply will be subject to fines of up to 50 million z?oty (roughly £9.8m or $13.3m).

The legislation, thought to have been driven by Kaleta, began to be drawn up after the Polish government grew concerned at Facebook removing censoring certain Christian pages, but gained new impetus after Twitter, Facebook, and other Big Tech companies moved to banish U.S. President Donald Trump from their platforms in recent weeks, with Apple, Google, and Amazon wiping the free speech oriented alternative Parler off the internet shortly thereafter.”

  18. ‘How Are We Going To…Deprogram These People?’: Katie Couric On GOPers Who Wouldn’t Certify Election Results

Speaking on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” former NBC anchor Katie Couric commented on Republican members of Congress who voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election results, asserting, “How are we going to really, almost deprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump?”

Maher prompted Couric’s remarks by commenting on the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, saying: “As much as I’m worried about these loons who break into government, I’m actually more worried about the loons who did get elected, because, I mean, what do you do about these people? There’s 147 Republicans in Congress who still don’t concede that Trump lost the election. What do you do about people who are in the government who don’t believe in our way of government?”

  19. Rioter Accused of Trying To Sell Pelosi’s Laptop Surrenders

A Capitol rioter accused of taking a laptop from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s office during the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol siege with the alleged intention of selling the device to Russian intelligence forces has turned herself in on Monday, according to authorities.

The FBI had been on the hunt for Riley June Williams, a Harrisburg, Pa., woman who investigators say they have linked to the events on Capitol Hill earlier this month. According to an arrest warrant filed Sunday night, a tipster who was identified as a former romantic partnercalled in to the FBI’s hotline and told authorities they spotted her in videos from the siege.

  20. Senator Questions Constitutionality of Post-Presidential Impeachment Trial

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) said it is likely unconstitutional to carry out a Senate impeachment trial of a president after they leave office.

President Donald Trump was impeached by the House earlier this month over his remarks that he made before the Capitol was breached on Jan. 6, despite the president calling on his supporters to “stay peaceful.”

“My overall question is: Why are we doing this when the president is out of office tomorrow?” Ernst told reporters on Tuesday. When asked about whether it would be constitutional to try Trump when he leaves office, Ernst said, “I don’t think it is.”

“I’ve read arguments on both sides, but he’s not our president after tomorrow. So the only reason I can see is that Democrats want to further divide the nation. And [I’m] asking President-elect Joe Biden, ‘Please, let’s move forward,’” she added.

Other GOP senators have questioned whether it would be constitutional to impeach a president after they leave office. Some legal experts, notably Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz, said the bid would violate the Constitution.

  21. Biden’s Climate Team: ‘Systemic Racism’ Is To Blame For Climate Change
    Ashe Schow
    4-5 minutes

Two aides named by President-elect Joe Biden to handle environmental issues claim “systemic racism” is partially to blame for climate change.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Maggie Thomas has been tapped for the Office of Domestic Climate Policy chief of staff and Cecilia Martinez will serve as “senior director for environmental justice. Both incoming advisers have said racism drives climate change while insisting Biden’s environmental reforms should be based on “racial and economic justice.”

In 2019, the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis released an “Equitable & Just” climate platform that demanded “environmental justice, equity and reducing pollution in overburdened communities” be front and center in the fight against climate change.
