Reader’s Links for January 5, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  5. ‘If there is any hostage taking, it is Seoul’: Iranian govt demands $7 bln returned after seizing South Korean tanker (RT, Jan 5, 2021)

“The Iranian government has lambasted Seoul for holding $7 billion of Iranian funds on ‘baseless grounds’ but claims it is not related to Iran’s seizure of a South Korean flagged tanker in the Persian Gulf.

Speaking on Tuesday, Iranian government spokesman, Ali Rabiei told reporters that South Korea was the party guilty of “hostage taking” and not Iran.

“We’ve become used to such allegations … but if there is any hostage taking, it is Korea’s government that is holding $7 billion which belongs to us hostage on baseless grounds,” Rabiei told reporters at a news conference streamed live online.

Iranian media reported that Seoul had frozen several billion dollars in Iranian money and refused to transfer it to Tehran under the pretext of complying with US sanctions on Iran.

Rabiei insisted that Iran’s seizure of a South Korean flagged tanker on Monday was because it violated environmental protocols and was not related to the $7 billion reportedly held hostage by Seoul…”

  6. It’s bad up here. But I guess it’s bad all over.

Yesterday I turn on the radio while I’m going down the road and the mouth with no body is listening to another stupid mouth with no body about what PT is doing. The show is done by a guy named Rob Snow. He thinks he’s so clever. He substitutes sarcasm for what he thinks is sharp observation, and just ends up sounding mean and dumb. The other voice is from a mouth that works for the Kingston Whig Standard. I refer to them as voices without bodies because there is really something missing here.

Both of them dress up in ridiculous costumes pretending to be journalists. I think I imagined a feather in a cap. I’m surprised they didn’t put on English accents to try to make themselves sound more intellectual. They prattled, rattled and shmattled on about how much damage PT is doing to the good ol’ USA with his efforts to rescue his country. They speak with the bias of two people sitting in the warm tub of willful, paid for, non-objective consensus, kind of like all lefties do. They hold PT and the restless American spirit in contempt as they spit over the 49th parallel like some morally superior king and queen of Dystopia, never ONCE touching on a single aspect of the abundant evidence proving this election rip-off. They skate on ice so thin you’re sure and waiting for the ice to break but it never does. And this is terribly frustrating because you are thirsting for drops of truth from msm to give you hope that the big picture may be changing, but the drops don’t come. And they talk about how PT is making things so dangerous because he is standing in the way of smooth transition and China and Russia may try to attack, or something. They say that Russia really did try to interfere four years ago in PT’s favour. They don’t speak of Biden’s corruption or senility, or the CCP’s greasy fingers in everything. No, they skate over reality, never breaking through to the cold, dark waters of truth that get real journalists fired nowadays. This warm tub in which the bogus profession of modern news reporting sits heaps reward on the compliant and scorn on the defiant, and is so polluted by plastic truth that, well, it forms an island that millions walk on. I guess it’s all a testament to that bugger, Bernays.

It’s disgusting. Parallel universes can coexist only until they collide. But I’ve got their number, and I won’t lose it. I switch the radio station. Ah, now that’s better:

Now I’m waking up a few minutes BEFORE the alarm – so I can turn it OFF before the horrid pommy ponce yaps at me.

  9. EU says it will redouble efforts to save Iran deal (alarabiya, Jan 5, 2021)

“The European Union said Tuesday it would redouble its efforts to save the Iran nuclear agreement despite what it calls Tehran’s “important breach” of commitments made in the 2015 deal by starting to enrich uranium to new levels.

EU spokesman Peter Stano said that Iran’s actions “will have serious implications when it comes to nuclear nonproliferation.” Stano said it was in everyone’s interest to rescue the deal and said the 27-nation bloc “will strengthen” its attempts to make sure all adhere to the commitments made in the landmark deal.

Iran began enriching uranium Monday to levels unseen since its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. The decision appeared aimed at increasing Tehran’s leverage in the waning days in office for US President Donald Trump, whose unilateral withdrawal from the atomic accord in 2018 began a series of escalating incidents.

Increasing enrichment at its underground Fordo facility puts Tehran a technical step away from weapons-grade levels of 90 percent. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the action was “fully reversible” if other partners in the deal fully complied too, without elaborating.

Iran informed the International Atomic Energy Agency of its plans to increase enrichment to 20 percent last week.

Iran’s decision to begin enriching to 20 percent purity a decade ago nearly triggered an Israeli strike targeting its nuclear facilities, tensions that only abated with the 2015 atomic deal, which saw Iran limit its enrichment in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.”

  10. Moscow Calls Iran’s Decision to Enrich Uranium to 20% a Step Away From Nuclear Deal (sputniknews, Jan 5, 2021)

“Tehran’s moves to enrich uranium fuel to 20% are a deviation from the provisions of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said in a statement.

At the same time, these actions cannot be considered a violation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, since Iran maintains transparency in everything related to its nuclear programme and allows inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to monitor the peaceful application of the 20% enriched fuel, the ministry added.

“All of the uranium enriched to 20% remains under the control of the IAEA. The agency did not register its application in undeclared activities, which would violate the NPT”, the Foreign Ministry statement said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that there is a “clear understanding” that the violation of the international obligations by the US became the trigger for Iran’s deviation from the JCPOA, referring to Washington’s introduction of economic sanctions against Iran in 2018. Moscow has condemned the US actions as a direct violation of the UN Security Council resolution that cemented the Iran nuclear deal.

Return to Iran Nuclear Deal Becoming Ever More Difficult
The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that in order to reverse the damage done to the JCPOA, the US has to stop its course to undermine the international accord. Tehran, in turn, would also have to make significant reciprocal steps once Washington starts returning to the nuclear deal, the spokeswoman added…”

  12. The Judiciary vs. the Leftist Mob – Frontpagemag
    Daniel Greenfield
    8-10 minutes

Patriots won’t bend to the mob — even if the judges do.

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

Over two centuries ago, Alexander Hamilton pointed out that due to the “natural feebleness of the judiciary”, it’s “in continual jeopardy of being overpowered, awed, or influenced.”

Jeopardy long ago became reality. Now our nation’s future is in jeopardy.

As mobs fill the street, the Roberts Court shows the weakness of a conservative judiciary that is willing to issue conservative rulings only on those issues that won’t infuriate the mob too much. Faced with blatant election rigging, judges across the country have retreated from having to make the hard choices and safeguard our constitutional republic against political gangsters.

  13. ‘No Crime There, Period’: Alan Dershowitz Says Trump Phone Call Taken out of Context
    By Jack Phillips

News outlets took President Donald Trump’s comments to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger out of context during a phone call that was later leaked to the press, said Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz.

“Well, every major media is taking it out of context,” Dershowitz told Just The News, adding that there was no apparent crime being committed on the phone call by the president.

Mainstream outlets initially interpreted Trump’s remarks to Raffensberger as an attempt at a shakedown to “find 11,780 votes” in Georgia for the Nov. 3 presidential contest.

But the full transcript of the call showed that Trump asserted that he won the state and asked the election official to probe election irregularities—something he has been saying publicly for weeks.

“Four migrants died during a perilous journey from the coast of Africa to Spain’s Canary Islands, which last year registered a huge surge in arrivals, rescuers said on Tuesday.

The four were found dead on arrival when a rickety boat carrying 47 migrants landed in Tenerife at dawn, the emergency services said on Twitter, citing Red Cross officials.

  15. Anarchist Antifa Take Credit for Arson Attack Against German Army Vehicles (breitbart, Jan 5, 2021)

“Investigators believe that an arson attack targetting several German Bundeswehr vehicles on New Year’s Eve in Leipzig is linked to far-left extremists.

A claim of responsibility for the arson attack was made on the far-left web platform Indymedia, which has been linked to anarchist Antifa extremists in the past. The German government had banned the Indymedia page “Linksunten” in 2017 following the Hamburg G20 riots.

According to a report from the German magazine Der Spiegel, a group of suspects yet to be identified set fire to 11 SUVs belonging to the Bundeswehr — the German military — as well as a trailer belonging to the armed forces. Seven of the vehicles were destroyed.

The Police Terrorism and Extremism Defence Centre has taken over the investigation. Local police say that aside from the arson attack, New Year’s Eve was relatively calm in the city.

Leipzig is well-known in Germany as a hub for Antifa extremism and violence; the city has even set up a specific task force, Soko Linx, to deal with far-left motivated crime.

Soko Linx was formed in 2019 after a wave of vandalism, arson, and violence in the city, with that year seeing over 300 left-wing attacks compared to 222 the year before.

In November of that year, the task force went as far as offering substantial cash rewards to identify far-left extremists who had participated in attacks.

In November 2020, Soko Linx began an investigation into an attempted murder case involving Antifa extremists in Leipzig.

The brutal attack took place at an anti-lockdown demonstration involving the Querdenker (“lateral thinker”) movement and saw a group of 15 to 20 black-bloc Antifa militants swarm a pair of anti-lockdown protestors, beat them to the ground, kicking and stomping their heads.

The Antifa attack on Bundeswher vehicles is not the first such incident, either. In 2016, far-left extremists caused €100,000 in damage after setting five military vehicles on fire.”

  16. Iran Requests Interpol to Issue Arrest Warrant for Donald Trump Over Soleimani’s Killing (sputniknews, Jan 5, 2021)

“The global policing body previously rejected a similar warrant request earlier this year on the grounds that Interpol tries to stay away from cases of a “political, military, religious or racial character”.

Iran has sent a new request to Interpol to issue an international warrant for US President Donald Trump over ordering a drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani on 3 January 2020. The request also contains warrants for 47 more US officials purportedly involved in the general’s assassination last year.

“Iran is very seriously following up on pursuing and punishing those who ordered and executed this crime”, Iranian judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili said.

This is the second time Tehran has requested the arrest of Trump and other American officials over their involvement in “murder and terrorism”. It made its first attempt on 29 June, issuing Interpol a “red notice” for Trump.

However, the global policing body rejected the warrant request on the grounds that it does not deal with matters related to politics, military, religion or racial issues. It is unclear if Interpol will change its stance in the light of the fact that Trump is leaving office in a little over two weeks…”

  18. Trump: Pence ‘Has the Power to Reject Fraudulently Chosen Electors’
    By Jack Phillips

    biggersmaller Print

President Donald Trump asserted on Tuesday that Vice President Mike Pence has the power to reject electors that were fraudulently chosen, echoing statements made by his legal team in recent days ahead of Jan. 6’s Joint Session of Congress.

“The Vice President has the power to reject fraudulently chosen electors,” Trump wrote on Tuesday in a tweet.

Republicans have been increasingly putting pressure on Pence, who serves as the president of the Senate and will oversee the certification of the Electoral College vote. At least a dozen Republican senators and dozens of House representatives have pledged to object to states’ electoral votes, which then is slated to trigger an hourslong debate before a simple-majority vote is held on whether to certify a state’s electoral votes.

“I know we all have got our doubts about the last election,” Pence told a crowd of supporters in Georgia on Monday, adding that “I want to assure you that I share the concerns of millions of Americans about voting irregularities. I promise you, come this Wednesday, we will have our day in Congress.”

  19. Health officials sound alarm as Israel’s hospitals overflow, virus keeps spreading

In an urgent press briefing, health minister and public health chief demand full lockdown immediately, saying some of the newly infected have already had their first vaccine shot, which could derail the inoculation campaign

“Some of the [new] virus patients are elderly, who have already received the first shot of the vaccine,” he said. “They were meters away from being saved. Today there are outbreaks in nursing homes, where the vaccinations have also been carried out. The ball is in the hands of the government,” he added.

“When was the last time the public itself was asking us to close everything? The heads of local authorities and people on the street say to us, ‘stop, impose a lockdown.”

    A thought piece:
US and Israel Prepare for Iranian Revenge

On January 20, 2021, President Donald Trump is slated to exit the scene and perhaps even the stage of history – but Iran remains. Its leaders took hard hits from Trump during his tenure, but worst of all is the way he humiliated them in the eyes of the world. The ayatollahs held on despite everything Trump threw at them, but their honor was trampled. For that there is no forgiving or forgetting.…

I expect the Iranian leaders to mount an impressive military operation on January 19 in Soleimani’s, and possibly also Fakhrizadeh’s, name – one that will restore their lost honor and their longstanding status as regional bully.…

Why January 19? Because that will be one day before Trump’s exit from the White House. He will not have time to put into motion any serious retaliation against Iran.…
