Reader’s Links for December 6, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Situation Update – Dec. 4th – Offensive cyber warfare mechanisms activated, election outcome now bending toward national defense scenario

After reading this, think about J.E.Dyer’s speculation:

Not all departing administrations visit presidents-elect to brief them on “dossiers” purporting to detail their associates’ compromising interactions with the agents of foreign powers. But Obama’s visited Trump for that purpose. If tracking the massive attack on the 2020 vote nailed Joe Biden’s associates, we may imagine the Trump administration will be rolling those associates up before visiting Biden, with stacks of evidence waiting in courthouses.

And when the Trump detail sets out for that visit to Biden, my bet, if I were a betting sailor, would be on one man leading it: Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, U.S. Army (Ret).

    • Interesting ideas. Since this operation is being run (hopefully) through the military under strict need to know bases Brad Johnson wouldn’t know anything about it.

      • There’s messy conspiracy theorizing amongst conservatives that’s a natural coping mechanism, but not helpful.

Jennifer explicitly avoids the exotic stuff, just as she leaves questions hanging.
        – Like why Barr said what he did,
why PT waited so long before making sensible changes.

        It’s all speculative, mind-clutter.

At the heart of the controversy lies the fact that the creators of the most commonly used test, the RT-PCR, published instructions for how to test for SARS-CoV-2 “without having virus material available,” in their own words, relying instead on the Chinese scientists’ genetic sequence published on the internet.

The paper “Detection of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) by real-time PCR” was published 24 hours after it was submitted to Eurosurveillance, clearly evading peer review. Its lead authors were Christian Drosten and Victor Corman, which is how it took on the title “Corman-Drosten paper.” It provided the “recipe,” or work flow for the Covid-19 diagnostic test, quickly applied all over the world, after it was accepted as the standard of testing by the WHO.

  3. Up to 4,000 rejected Channel migrants still in the UK, Home Office figures show (express, Dec 6, 2020)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1368991/channel-migrants-uk-home-office-uk

“Fewer than 10 percent of migrants who crossed the Channel in small boats have been given asylum – yet thousands are still in the country, Home Office figures have shown.

Statistics for the period between January 2018 and June 30 this year reveal that 4,613 people entered the country after making the treacherous journey. Of those, 4,562 made asylum claims that they were fleeing war or persecution in their home country. However, only 429 have been granted asylum or other humanitarian protection. The Home Office figures showed the remainder of the asylum claims were either refused or no decision had been made.

A series of home secretaries and Prime Minister Boris Johnson have previously pledged the majority of Channel migrants would be returned to France or other European countries, as they should be able to claim asylum in the first safe country they reach.

However, the Home Office has admitted that between January 1 last year and the end of September this year just 231 had been sent back.

Since June there has been a surge of crossings, with an estimated 6,000 more people coming into the country via the Channel, all organised by ruthless people smugglers.
Alp Mehmet, chairman of Migration Watch UK, which campaigns for tougher border controls, said: “Illegal Channel crossings have increased exponentially this year, not only because the Government has done little to discourage them but because they almost always prove successful.

“Most of those who reach the UK get to stay – very few are sent back.

“The immediate return of those making the attempt is the only way to deal with the problem. Abs-conding is rife and the removal rate of those with no right to be here is pitifully low. All of which is a boon to traffickers.”

Last month the Sunday Express revealed that large numbers of Channel migrants, who could have been returned to France or other countries, are now on the run in the UK after fleeing.

David Bolt, the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, revealed in a report that many migrants who crossed the Channel and were not eligible for asylum were not held in immigration detention centres. Instead, they were bailed, with large numbers apparently going on the run.

The news comes as a separate row over the deportation of foreign national offenders escalated when 37 out of 50 convicted criminals due to be flown to Jamaica were granted reprieves after human rights lawyers lodged last-minute appeals.”

It followed pressure from Labour MPs and campaigning celebrities.”

    • Who are you putting first, criminals or victims? Keir Starmer asked after deportation row (express, Dec 6, 2020)
      https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1368922/deportation-flight-jamaica-labour-keir-startmer-priti-patel

“SIR Keir Starmer has been challenged to distance himself from 42 of his MPs who signed a letter this week demanding an end to deportations of dangerous foreign criminals.

Pressure has been applied on the Labour leader in a letter sent this weekend by 39 Conservative MPs after leftwing lawyers intervened to prevent all but 13 of 36 dangerous criminals being returned to Jamaica. The ones who were allowed by the courts to stay included murderers and rapists. But despite concerns for the safety of ordinary members of the public 42 Labour MPs signed a letter organised by Norwich South MP Clive Lewis erroneously linking the deportation of foreign criminals to the Windrush scandal. The letter was also backed by celebrities such as former model Naomi Campbell. But in their letter to Sir Keir, a group of Tory MPs, organised by West Bromwich West MP Shaun Bailey, warned that the issue was actually about national security and law and order.

They said: “We believed that you had finally listened to the concerns of the British people earlier this year, when you promised that under your leadership the Labour Party would never ‘go into an election not being trusted on national security’.

“That is why we are deeply concerned to see that last week forty-two Labour Members of Parliament signed a letter which called for a large number of foreign criminals who were due to be deported to remain in this country, and we are concerned by your silence and unwillingness to distance yourself from these comments.”

They added: “The criminals on this flight were all convicted of serious offences, including murder, rape, drug dealing and child sex offences.

They caused immeasurable harm to this country, to our communities, and to the lives of the victims and their families.

“Flights like this that remove foreign criminals from the UK happen every week, this flight was no different.”

“The British people rightly expect foreign national offenders who have broken our laws and abused our hospitality to be removed from our country, and they have the right to know who the Labour Party under your leadership is putting first – convicted foreign national offenders, or the victims of their horrific crimes.

”They demanded to know if Sir Keir stands by the 42 Labour MPs and asked him to clarify if his party supports the removal of foreign criminals.

Earlier in the week, Home Secretary Priti Patel described the Labour MPs and celebrities who oppose the deportations as “ill informed do-gooders.”

Since April alone, the Government has conducted over thirty enforced returns and deportation charter flight operations to countries including Albania, France, Germany, Ghana, Lithuania, Nigeria, Poland and Spain.

A Labour spokesman said: “We know the Government behaved unlawfully in the handling of the Windrush scandal. We continue to raise these issues as a matter of urgency with the Home Office and will be holding the Government to account.

“Labour will always act in the national interest. We do not oppose the deportation of serious criminals who do not have legal right to remain, but the Home Office must not repeat the injustices of the Windrush scandal.””

  4. Greek Foreign Minister: Turkey a Danger to Peace and Stability in Eastern Mediterranean (breitbart, Dec 6, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/12/06/greek-foreign-minister-turkey-danger-peace-stability-eastern-med/

“Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias warned that continued Turkish actions in the Eastern Mediterranean were threatening peace in the region.

Dendias made his comments during a press conference alongside Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulidis in Nicosia, Cyprus, saying that Turkey was “threatening peace, security and stability”.

“On the one hand, it is trying to create precedents and, on the other, trying to avoid measures being taken against it,” Dendias said on Friday, Greek newspaper I Kathimerini reports.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers has taken place in the days leading up to a scheduled meeting of European Union officials to discuss possible sanctions against Turkey. The near east country has provoked criticism by launching research vessels in areas Greece and Cyprus have claimed as part of their exclusive economic zones (EEZ).

More recently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made statements in Turkish controlled Northern Cyprus advocating for a two-state solution for the island, rather than potential reunification.

Erdogan’s comments contradict a 1977 agreement that looked to create a unified federal government in Cyrpus with two separately governed zones in the north and south.

In October, the Turkish leader defended the deployment of the natural resource research vessel Oruc Reis in the Mediterranean. He said: “We will continue to give the response they deserve on the field, to Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration who have not kept their promises during talks within the EU and NATO platforms.”

In August, the Greek government called on the European Union to sanction Turkey, receiving support from French President Emmanuel Macron, who has also backed the idea of sanctions.

Macron has also had his own conflicts with President Erdogan following the death of teacher Samuel Paty, who was beheaded in the street by a Chechen refugee in revenge for showing cartoons of the Islamic prophet Mohammed to his class.

In reaction to the act of terror, Macron launched a campaign against political Islam and Islamist associations and groups. Erdogan declared Macron to be mentally unwell in response and later called for a boycott of French goods.”

  5. Officials say gunmen kill secular thinker in southern Yemen (abcnews, Dec 5, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/officials-gunmen-kill-secular-thinker-southern-yemen-74557822

“A Yemeni university professor and secular thinker was killed on Saturday in a drive-by shooting in southern Yemen, local officials said.

Khalid al-Hameidi was a known critic of Islamic extremists, at a time when dissent has become dangerous amid Yemen’s yearslong civil war.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the shooting.

The officials said that the gunmen are believed to have been either members of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, which the U.S. considers the world’s most dangerous offshoot of the terror network, or an affiliate of the Islamic State group.

The two militant groups regularly strike security and military targets in drive-by shootings, suicide bombings and other attacks. They also target those who speak out against the militants or their ideology.

The officials said two gunmen on a motorcycle shot al-Hameidi in the city of Dhale, where he was dean of the university’s education faculty.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.

Known for his secular thinking, al-Hameidi was a harsh critic of religious extremism, and encouraged his students to organize and take part in mixed-gender cultural and artistic activities in Dhale University.

Thousands took part in al-Hameidi’s funeral Saturday in a show of solidarity against extremist groups, the officials said.

Yemen plunged into chaos and civil war when Iranian-backed Houthi rebels took over the capital, Sanaa, in 2014 from the internationally recognized government. A Saudi-led coalition allied with the government intervened to fight the Houthis the following year.

Militias established and funded by the United Arab Emirates, which intervened alongside its ally Saudi Arabia, mostly control Dhale province.

The war in Yemen has led to what the U.N. has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.”

  6. France: Nearly 400 Incidents Praising Terror Reported in Schools Last Month (breitbart, Dec 6, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/12/06/france-nearly-400-incidents-praising-terror-reported-in-schools-last-month/

“Nearly 400 incidents relating to the praising of terrorism or provocations relating to terrorism have been reported in schools across France from November 4th to the 30th.

The French Ministry of National Education reported 393 such incidents, stating that most were related to provocations, protests, or apologies for terrorism.

From the death of 47-year-old history and geography teacher Samuel Paty — who was beheaded on October 16th in the street by a Chechen refugee after showing his class cartoons of the Islamic prophet Mohammed — to November 3rd, 400 incidents were also reported, 20 Minutes reports.

Of the total number of incidents, 90 per cent of the cases involved pupils and the rest involved the parents of pupils and even staff, with 286 reports made to the police and 136 to French prosecutors.

Nearly half of the incidents, 48 per cent, took place at middle schools, 18 per cent at high schools, and 11 per cent at vocational colleges. While 23 per cent, nearly a quarter, occurred at primary schools.

According to 20 Minutes, 44 pupils have been expelled, 131 given temporary suspensions, four have been reprimanded, and 48 have been given warnings.

The General Inspectorate of Education also noted that schools have reacted well to incidents within the classroom setting, but have not been as vigilant on monitoring students’ social media statements.

The report noted that social media played a large part in spreading information about Paty after he had shown the Mohammed cartoons to his class.

The father of a pupil at Paty’s school, Brahim Chninam, launched a social media campaign against the teacher and was even found to have been in direct contact with the Chechen refugee before the terror attack.

Police took Chninam, along with his Islamist ally Abdelhakim Sefrioui, into custody following the murder.

The Ministry of National Education report supports claims by a French judicial source last month who stated that the number of threats against teachers and other public figures was “exploding” following the killing of Paty.”

  7. CBC – The man tasked with Canada’s vaccine rollout walks through plans for a dry-run starting Monday

The vice-president of logistics and operations at PHAC, Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin, explains what will happen when Canada starts conducting vaccine rollout dry-runs starting Monday.

    • Moderna says its vaccine provides COVID-19 immunity for at least three months

Moderna’s vaccine against COVID-19 has been shown to create immunity against the bug for at least three months, the biotech company said.

Thirty-four healthy adults who received two doses of Moderna’s vaccine candidate, mRNA-1273, were shown to have antibodies for 90 days, according to new findings published Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The first dose “produced high levels of binding and neutralizing antibodies that declined slightly over time, as expected, but they remained elevated in all participants 3 months after the booster vaccination,” the study said.

The two doses were administered 28 days apart.

The report did not make clear what level of risk people would have after 90 days and whether another shot would be needed.

Earlier this week, Moderna asked the US Food and Drug Administration for emergency use authorization, saying data shows its vaccine is more than 94 percent effective against coronavirus.

On Friday, the Massachusetts-based company said it would be able to produce 500 million doses of the vaccine in 2021.

“For 500 million, I am very comfortable we are gonna get there,” chief executive officer Stéphane Bancel said at the Nasdaq Investor Conference.

Bancel said the company would sell each dose for between $25 and $37.

Pfizer and BioNTech have also applied for an emergency use authorization for their vaccine in the US, and it was approved for use in the UK on Wednesday.

The Olympia Police Department released a notice: “Large group of opposing protesters started near the Capitol and are now moving through downtown Olympia. Near City Hall. The groups have dispersed into smaller groups and are moving throughout the area. Officers are monitoring to ensure things are peaceful from here forward.”

The black bloc anarchists held their own event titled “Squash Fascists.” The two groups baited each other throughout the day, as seen in footage from photojournalist Independent Media PDX. 15. Trump Team Begins Forensic Examination of Dominion Machines in Michigan
    By Jack Phillips

President Donald Trump’s legal team began a forensic analysis of Dominion voting machines in Michigan after a judge on Friday permitted the examination.

“Our team is going to be able to go in this morning at about 8:30 [a.m.] and will be there for about eight hours to conduct that forensic examination and we’ll have the results in about 48 hours, and that’ll tell us a lot about these machines,” attorney Jenna Ellis told Fox News on Sunday.

“A judge actually granted our team access … to conduct a forensic audit,” Ellis added.

Ellis was referring to a ruling from a judge in Antrim County, Michigan, who authorized the audit of 22 Dominion Voting Systems machines, said Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani. It’s not clear which of the several election lawsuits the order originated from.

A lawyer who filed lawsuits to help President Donald Trump overturn the result of elections in several states said there is plenty of time for the team to work.

”With the fraud case, the Dec. 8 deadline doesn’t apply,” Sidney Powell told Newsmax on Friday, referring to the Dec. 8 “safe harbor” deadline that frees a state from challenges if it is able to resolve disputes before sending electors to the Electoral College on Dec. 14.

”We have at least until Dec. 14,” Powell said, referring to the Electoral College vote date.

”We might file more suits. The court in Michigan or Wisconsin today just gave us a great order recognizing that. These are not pure election contests we are filing,” Powell said. “These are massive fraud suits that can set aside the results of the election due to this fraud at any time. The states should not be certifying election results in the face of it.”

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, who was formerly a Southern Poverty Law Center board member before she rose to prominence, is trying to delete crucial evidence that could decisively prove that massive voter fraud took place in the battleground state.

The Michigan Republican Party announced on Friday that Benson issued a memo earlier this week telling clerks to delete Electronic Poll Book Software and similar files. The Michigan Bureau of Elections has stated that this data should not be deleted if “a post-election audit is planned but has not yet been completed.” The Wayne County Board of Canvassers has called for an audit of the election after the extreme amounts of documented improprieties that happened in Detroit on election night.

Even though the Michigan GOP did little to nothing to prevent voter fraud before the election, they are releasing angry statements about Benson way after the fact.

“Secretary Benson’s move to request the deletion of election data amidst bipartisan calls for an audit is just another example of her putting partisan politics over what’s best for Michigan.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox.

Tuesday, notably, is the “safe harbor” deadline that requires controversies surrounding elections to be ended so states can choose their electors before the Dec. 14 meeting of the Electoral College. Alito initially called for response arguments by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, before it was changed.

The Tuesday, Dec. 8 deadline could be a signal that the Supreme Court takes up Kelly’s case, which was shot down by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court last weekend. Kelly has argued that the 2019 Pennsylvania law, Act 77, violates Pennsylvania’s state Constitution and the U.S. Constitution with its “no-excuse mail-in” voting provision. Kelly’s lawsuit was joined by GOP congressional candidate Sean Parnell and others.

To hit back, or not to hit back?

This is the question that has heated up debate within Tehran’s ruling Khomeinist circles for almost a week. The debate was triggered by the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a shadowy figure in the top echelons of Tehran’s murky establishment.

  24. Italy: Antifa protesters march against opening of library with possible far-right links

Dozens of Antifa protesters marched through the streets of Cernusco sul Naviglio, near Milan, on Saturday against the opening of a library run by Altaforte, a publishing house linked to the Italian neo-fascist group CasaPound.

Demonstrators marched waving red flags and chanting antifascist slogans before arriving at the library site, where they put up antifascist posters on its facade.

A large number of police officers were deployed to stop possible clashes between the Antifa group and several right-wing counter-protesters who gathered at the same time in front of the library. Several local right-wing politicians such as Lega Councilor Massimiliano Bastoni and European Parliament Member Carlo Fidanza were also reportedly present.

Altaforte is a publishing house that issued a book of interviews with the Italian Former Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini last year. Library’s owner Francesco Polacchi has defined himself as a fascist and has been accused of taking part in several violent incidents including when he was accused of attempted murder in 2007.

Electoral College Deadlines Not ‘Set In Stone’: Election Integrity Watchdog
    By Tom Ozimek

An election integrity watchdog said the current Electoral College deadlines not only have “zero constitutional basis” but are preventing states from fulfilling their legal and ethical obligations to ensure free and fair elections.

The Amistad Project of the non-partisan Thomas More Society released the study (pdf) on Friday, making the case that the only constitutionally-set date in the election process is Jan. 20, when the next president of the United States will be sworn in. All other dates, including the “safe harbor” deadline, the Electoral College vote on Dec. 14, and even the congressional vote count on Jan. 6, are dates set by federal law, which the paper argues are “arbitrary” and founded on obsolete concerns.

“Experts believe that the primary basis for these dates was to provide enough time to affect the presidential transition of power, a concern which is fully obsolete in the age of internet and air travel,” The Amistad Project said in a press release.

The first of these dates, the so-called “safe harbor” deadline, is pursuant to federal law (3 U.S. Code § 5) and is understood to free a state from further contest-of-election challenges if it settles legal disputes and certifies its results at least six days before the Dec. 14 Electoral College meeting.

    • THE PATH TO VICTORY

Upon reflection, yesterday’s decision by the Supreme Court Justice Alito on Pennsylvania makes perfect sense. Alito is preparing a way for the court to review the results. Trump will definitely win there, and that’s what matters.

      Other positive indications:

A group is suing swing states arguing EC deadlines are unconstitutional especially when fraud contaminates elections

Constitution Center: The Constitution’s text requires that a group of electors, commonly called the Electoral College, chooses the next president. If a majority of electors fails to agree on a winner, Congress picks the winner in continent elections held within Congress under the terms of the 12th Amendment.

U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, an affirmative action nominee to the bench by former globalist president George W. Bush, is attempting to reverse President Donald Trump’s pardon to continue the politically-motivated persecution of General Michael Flynn by the deep state.

Walton defended his colleague U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan at a hearing on Friday. Sullivan is the Obama political operative who lobbied personally to keep Flynn’s case alive despite being overruled, making a joke of the notion of an impartial judiciary in the process.

Walton claimed that Sullivan “has a lot of options in reference to what he does” following President Trump’s pardon “unless he takes the position that the wording of the pardon is too broad, in that it provides protections beyond the date of the pardon.”

  29. Voter Rights Group Notifies DOJ of Pakistani Link With Nevada Election Email System

A U.S. voter rights group informed the Department of Justice on Dec. 3 of a link between the Nevada election emails system and a Pakistani company with ties to military and intelligence.

True the Vote requested the Nevada voter file from the secretary of state after the Nov. 3 election. The state responded with a voter file in an email, but the message was copied to Waqas Butt, CEO of Pakistani-based Kavtech Solutions Ltd.

In a letter (pdf) to Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Demers, Catherine Engelbrecht, president of True the Vote, wrote that she was shocked to discover the Pakistani address in the carbon copy field of the email.

“The fact that this company was cc’d on an email containing access to the Nevada voter registration database appears to be evidence of a breach within the Nevada Secretary of State’s email system,” Engelbrecht wrote.

WASHINGTON—U.S. investors are unwittingly financing companies tied to the Chinese communist regime and its military through major index funds, according to a fact sheet released by the U.S. State Department on Dec. 5.

The report, titled “U.S. Investors Are Funding Malign PRC Companies on Major Indices,” lists the names of publicly traded companies that present a national security threat to the United States.

“The Chinese Communist Party’s threat to American national security extends into our financial markets and impacts American investors,” the fact sheet says.

Many major stock indexes developed by index providers Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) and Financial Times Stock Exchange Group (FTSE) include Chinese companies that are blacklisted by the Pentagon and the Department of Commerce.

  31. Georgia House Republicans Call for Mail-In Ballot Process Review

Georgia’s Republican House Majority Leader Jon Burns and others are calling on the secretary of state’s office to review the absentee ballot process ahead of the Jan. 5 runoff for two Senate seats.

Burns submitted a letter (pdf) signed by over 100 state House members to encourage Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger to ensure that Georgia voters “have confidence” in the state’s election process ahead of the runoff, after conflicting statements issued by Raffensberger’s office and Fulton County officials since the Nov. 3 election.

Burns and the other GOP lawmakers did not make mention of disputes over the Nov. 3 presidential election. Last week, the Georgia Legislature saw a surveillance video presented by President Donald Trump’s legal team that shows containers being wheeled out from underneath a table on Election Night, while the team said that poll observers and other election workers were told to go home for the night. They said that the video, along with statements provided by election officials, shows that vote counters stayed behind until around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 4.

“The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs are working on a plan to Saudize jobs of imam and muezzin (caller to prayer) at prayer halls of major commercial complexes, Okaz/Saudi Gazette has learned from well-informed sources.

This move follows a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs after noticing that some non-Saudis are performing the adhan (call to prayer) and leading prayers at the prayer areas in a large number of malls and commercial complexes.

According to the ministry sources, these complexes are very important in terms of the fact that they are the façade of the Kingdom and a destination for tourists…”

“A court handed a former military pilot three aggravated life sentences and over 640 years in prison for his role in Turkey’s July 15 coup attempt in 2016, reported Anadolu Agency.

In a recent trial of officers at the Akinci Airbase, which served as the headquarters for the failed coup attempt four years ago, the court ruled in favour of aggravated life sentences for several military officers, including former pilot lieutenant Mustafa Ozkan, as well as civilians who helped plot and carry out the scheme.

Ozkan was sentenced to 648 years for attempting to overthrow Turkey’s constitutional order and attempted premeditated murder.

During the coup attempt, Ozkan, who flew an F-16 fighter jet at speeds that broke the sound barrier above the capital Ankara where he bombed the police headquarters, killing two people and injuring 39 others.

Initially, Ozkan denied his role in the coup, saying he did not fly that night and knew nothing of the attempt in claims prosecutors later disproved.

Separately, 1,511 convicts were handed jail terms ranging from 14 months to 20 years, while some defendants were acquitted in the nationwide cases.

The remaining trials continue in the capital Ankara, Istanbul and seven other provinces.

According to the Turkish state, US-based cleric Fetullah Gulen and his supporters orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people dead and some 2,200 injured.”

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201206-foreign-ministry-turkey-to-never-compromise-its-sovereign-rights-in-e-med/

“Turkey will not compromise its sovereign rights on the island of Meis, or airspace covering 10 nautical miles, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Saturday according to a report by Anadolu Agency.

“No sanctions will ever make Turkey compromise its sovereign rights be in Meis/Kastellorizo or 10 nm airspace,” the ministry said on Twitter in response to Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias’ article against Turkey.

The ministry noted that Greece, “the spoiled child of Europe”, aims to provoke EU sanctions on Turkey based on its “maximalist, illegitimate maritime boundary, and airspace claims”. The statement added:

Greece should engage in unconditional dialogue with Turkey, sooner rather than later.

Amid recent tensions in the region, Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration have increased their pressure on other EU members to impose sanctions on Turkey during the upcoming EU leaders summit.

Turkey, which has the longest continental coastline in the Eastern Mediterranean, has rejected maritime boundary claims of Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration, and stressed that these excessive claims violate the sovereign rights of both Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots.

Ankara has sent several drill ships in the past weeks to explore for energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean, asserting its own rights in the region, as well as those of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Turkish leaders have repeatedly stressed that Ankara is in favour of resolving all outstanding problems in the region through international law, good neighbourly relations, dialogue, and negotiation.”
