Reader’s Links for December 3, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Turkey arrests 20 Iraqis for ‘working with Daesh’
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201203-turkey-arrests-20-iraqis-for-working-with-daesh/

“Some 20 Iraqi citizens have been arrested in the Turkish capital Ankara for allegedly “working with Daesh”, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday. Local sources said that the country’s anti-terrorism police and intelligence services had arrested 18 Iraqis on suspicion of “having links with Daesh”, adding the local police were “on the lookout for two other suspects”.

Last month, Turkish security services arrested 294 suspects on suspicion of collusion with Daesh and thwarted a series of terrorist plots in a number of the country’s major cities including Istanbul, Ankara and Adana.

Authorities in the country conduct frequent security operations to search for Daesh collaborators.”

  2. France to inspect 76 mosques in coming days
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201203-france-to-inspect-76-mosques-in-coming-days/

“France will be inspecting 76 mosques in the coming days in a “massive and unprecedented” operation against separatism, the country’s interior minister said Wednesday, Anadolu reports.

Gerald Darmanin said state services will be monitoring and controlling 76 Muslim places of worship — 16 in the Paris region and 60 in the rest of France — and that some of these mosques may be shut down. Of the mosques, 18 will be targeted by “immediate actions” at Darmanin’s request.

According to the Le Figaro newspaper, Darmanin sent a circular to the country’s governors on the inspection of the mosques.

Following the murder of teacher Samuel Paty in a Paris suburb in October, raids and pressure on Muslim associations and mosques have increased.

Darmanin said on Nov. 3 that 43 mosques have been closed in the last three years since President Emmanuel Macron took office.

France is home to the largest population of Muslims in Europe and Islam is the second-largest religion practiced in the country after Catholicism.

The international community was shocked by the knifing of two people outside the former offices of French weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo in September, the beheading of Paty on Oct. 16 and the brutal killing of three people inside Nice’s Notre Dame Basilica on Oct. 29.

The attacks prompted French officials to find a scapegoat and Muslims were targeted.

Critics say Macron’s government is exploiting the spate of violence to intensify his controversial anti-Muslim stance.”

  5. Five accused of scheme to get Turkish women to US to give birth
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/five-accused-of-scheme-to-get-turkish-women-to-us-to-give-birth-160557

“Five people were charged Dec. 2 in what authorities called a “birth tourism” scheme that arranged for pregnant Turkish women to give birth in New York to get more than 100 children U.S. citizenship and take advantage of public health care.

The defendants obtained fraudulent tourist and business visas for some of their clients to enter the U.S. and stay in “birth houses” on Long Island before giving birth and returning to Turkey with their newborns, federal prosecutors said.
The ring used social media to promote its services on sites with titles that translated into English as, “My baby should be born in America” and “Giving Birth in America,” the papers say. Charges reached $7,500 or more for each woman.

Between January 2017 and September, the scheme “facilitated the births of approximately 119 Turkish children, who now hold birthright United States citizenship,” court papers say.

The defendants, the papers add, “foisted the costs of the births on the taxpaying public” by illegally obtaining more than $2.1 million in Medicaid coverage to pay for prenatal and child delivery costs.

An indictment named Ibrihim Aksakal and Sarah Kaplan as the alleged ringleaders. They and three other defendants were to be arraigned later Wednesday. The status of a sixth person charged in the case as an unnamed co-conspirator was unclear.

Aksakal’s attorney declined to comment. A message seeking comment was left with Kaplan’s lawyer.

Earlier this year, the White House imposed new visa rules aimed at restricting birth tourism, a particular grievance of President Donald Trump. Under the rules, pregnant applicants are supposed to be barred tourist visas unless they can prove they must come to the U.S. to give birth for medical reasons and they have money to pay for it.”

Mohamed Safi was convicted of attempted murder.

  7. Egypt: Amnesty, 57 executions in two months

“In the past two months Egypt has carried out at least 57 death sentences of men and women compared to a total of 32 in all of 2019, said the website al Monitor on Thursday, citing figures published on Wednesday by Amnesty International that spoke of a “horrifying execution spree”.

Amnesty International said the figures are likely to be an underestimate as Egyptian authorities do not publish statistics on executions nor inform families. It said pro-government media reported 91 executions during the same period of October and November examined in the report. It said at least 15 “political detainees” were sentenced to death in the same two-month period “following grossly unfair trials marred by forced ‘confessions’ and other serious human rights violations”.”

  8. Migrants: record arrivals in Nov. in Canary Islands, 8,157

“A total of 8,157 migrants disembarked in the Canary Islands in November, a record number, according to figures published Thursday by the Spanish Interior Ministry. The increase brings the overall number of migrants who have reached the archipelago from African shores since the start of the year to nearly 20,000. That number is ten times higher than the number reached in 2019, and facilities are now overcrowded.

According to the interior ministry figures, between January 1 and November 30 of this year a total of 19,566 migrants landed on the archipelago, while last year that number was just 1,993. Of that number, nearly 70% arrived in September and October.

In an attempt to cope with the crisis, Spain has started building emergency camps that can host up to 7,000 people, in a project totaling 84 million euros financed with European funds. Migrants are also being accommodated in hotels and in tourism complexes that are largely vacant due to the Covid-19 crisis.”

“An Iraqi accused of trying to derail three German high-speed passenger trains in 2018 has been handed a life sentence by a court in Vienna. The jury ultimately rejected his denial of being an “Islamic State” supporter.

Vienna’s regional court on Thursday sentenced a 44-year-old Iraqi to life in prison for attempting to derail high-speed passenger trains in Germany.

The man had been living in the Austrian capital as a refugee with his wife and four children since 2013.

The Austrian news agency APA and broadcaster ORF reported that the eight-member jury was convinced the man had acted for the radical “Islamic State” (IS) group, which he denied.

His 33-year-old wife, who had been charged as being an accessory but denied involvement, was acquitted.

Via his lawyer, the main suspect claimed he wanted to put pressure on European countries to pull their troops out of Iraq. He said his actions had been a “big mistake.”

Thursday’s verdict is reportedly still subject to appeal…”

  10. Slovak police detained 42 Syrian migrants traveling in a truck
    https://rmx.news/article/article/slovak-police-detained-42-syrian-migrants-traveling-in-a-truck

“In the Slovak village of Horná Štub?a, in the central part of the country, Slovak police detained 42 migrants from Syria who jumped out of a Turkish truck on Tuesday.

The driver of the truck stopped at a rest stop near the village of Horná Štub?a, and migrants immediately jumped out of the trailer. “Two of them went to the local train station to find out where they were. They were detained on the spot,“ said the police. Some migrants were detained by police in the forest, while another group unsuccessfully tried to escape.

According to the police, there were five women and 37 men; there were no minors among the migrants. “Their planned destination was Germany,” said police spokesman Peter Slivka.

Slovakian TV Markíza reported in the evening that the police will not provide any further details, as the migrants are still being interrogated. “It is not yet known whether these people will apply for asylum,” Slivka added.”
