“Cyber-space is being closely watched in this regard by the agencies concerned and action is taken, as per law,” Reddy further said while claiming that the government is also aware of the sources that have been funding the outfit.

Swedish Justice Minister Denies ‘Population Replacement’ Amid New Immigration Policy Proposal (sputniknews, Sep 17, 2020)

“As Sweden has long enjoyed the reputation of having some of Europe’s most liberal policies toward immigration, asylum and family integration, the share of residents with a foreign background now exceeds a quarter of the population.
The Swedish Migration Committee has submitted a new report with proposals on the country’s future immigration policy, national broadcaster SVT reported.
The committee’s 600-page report includes a mixed bag of 26 proposals and features the strengthening of some measures as well as the relaxing of others. For instance, it wants time-limited residence permits instead of permanent ones to be the basic option for those seeking asylum. In addition, it wants to introduce livelihood and language requirements for those who seek a permanent residence permit in Sweden. However, so-called “quota refugees” will be exempted from these requirements.
At the same time, the committee wants to return to the previous arrangements where immigrants without valid grounds for asylum can still be granted a residence permit in the event of “extremely painful circumstances”.
The chairman of the committee, Court of Appeal President Thomas Rolén, stressed that the committee itself is in two minds about its proposals.
“I want to emphasise that behind each individual proposal there is a majority, but there is no majority behind the whole,” Rolén told national broadcaster SVT.
While accepting the proposals, Social Democrat Justice Minister Morgan Johansson stressed that the number of new asylum seekers who have been granted a residence permit has fallen sharply since the chaos year of 2015.
“Still, I see, when you see how the discussion is conducted, that it is still the case that people, especially from the right, are alarmed about mass immigration,” Johansson said, as quoted by the news outlet Fria Tider. He also rejected the notion of “population replacement”, which according to him is anchored in a “right-wing extremist” ideology.
The idea of population replacement suggests that ethnic Swedes will eventually become a minority in their own country due to low birth rates among the native population and mass immigration, due to either short-sighted policy decisions or deliberate measures taken by diversity-obsessed authorities. Several forecasts have projected that this will happen between 2040 and 2065, depending on the rate of immigration and demographic trends. This idea is vehemently challenged by left-leaning news outlets and think tanks (such as Expo) as anything from an “urban legend” to a “racist myth”.
The share of foreign-background population in once-homogeneous Sweden has been steadily rising in recent decades. According to Statistics Sweden, 26 percent of those registered in the country have a foreign background, which can be compared with 15 percent in 2000, two decades ago. According to an older way of counting, where having at least one foreign-born parent is counted as a foreign background, the proportion is 33 percent. Among young children, the non-ethnic-Swedish proportion is even higher.
The new proposals have sparked criticism from both right and left. The opposition Moderate Party, which since its reversal from the Fredrik Reinfelt-era “open hearts” policy, has been pushing for a tougher line on immigration, slammed the proposals as insufficient.
“It is a very narrow product where important proposals are missing”, its migration policy spokeswoman Maria Malmer Stenegard said, citing volume targets and requirements to take part in Swedish welfare.
The national-conservative Sweden Democrats’ party leader Jimmie Åkesson stressed that the state should encourage the repatriation of immigrants.
“More than who come here should leave the country”, Åkesson said.
The Green Party, the ruling Social Democrats’ important sidekick, was not satisfied either, suggesting that the proposal fails to take into account family rights and children’s rights.
All in all, this paves the way for tough negotiations in the Swedish parliament this autumn.”
School has begun for most students. Surprisingly, there are still some who’ve not started because of the scheduling gymnastics going on. When the large, projected photo of the kissing women jumped up on the screen in front of the class, my child’s reflex was to look askance. This was caught by the girl sitting behind him. She is a self-avowed lesbian, wheel-chair bound. Last year, despite her bullhorned sexual preference (all these girls are loud and proud), she had a crush on him, seemingly, because he had displayed particular sympathy towards her. Unfortunately her unrequited overtures compelled her to turn on him. She began spreading rumors he was homophobic. This, in an intensely progressive school of the arts, will spread like a spark in a bone-dry forest. Sadly he is not so, and simply wants to get along, but the politicization of children has become deep and, like a cleaved virus, resilient. Knowing something is wrong does not make one automatically hostile to it, but this is how the left will “frame” the boy who looks askance in reflex to a distasteful image. So it is, too, that this turns out to be a lesson on framing in more ways than one. When he looked aside he caught her in his peripheral vision, her glare poking him in the back as if to say “…you’d better look at that image up there, Mr., or else…”
To his right side, he recounted, sat another girl who professes her lesbianism, or bisexuality. (I admit I can’t keep up with these self-labeled acolytes to self-delusion. They will soon graduate into a real world where their play-acting identity politics will no longer win them the highschool popularity contest.) She was staring into the Coca-Cola abyss like an automaton. On his other side sat a buddy. Highschool buddies these days aren’t like boys in my day. Even between guys the careful dance of polite company now prevails. That friend stared ahead like a zombie.
And there you have it, as well framed as can be. The normal boy squeezed into an ideological straight jacket, as are we all, but here in the highschool setting. No where to run, no where to hide. Forced to stare into the images until he repeats, AND BELIEVES what he repeats, or else.

He told me I had turned out to be a fine looking Christian woman and he enjoyed his years working in the slums!

“Greek media have released footage they claim depicts migrants setting fires during the Moria migrant camp blaze that left more than 10,000 migrants homeless on the island of Lesbos.
The footage, which runs nearly a minute and a half, shows what appears to be a young man lighting a piece of cardboard on fire and using it to spread the blaze to nearby vegetation. Several other small fires are also seen burning nearby.
According to a report from major Greek newspaper Proto Thema, which released the footage, the video has been submitted as evidence by the Hellenic Police following the arrest of five migrants on charges of arson earlier this week. Later, a sixth suspect was arrested.
All six detained are Afghan males: three of them aged 19, one aged 20, and two aged 17.
Greek Minister of Civil Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis confirmed the first arrests on Tuesday, saying: “The arsonists of Moria are detained. They are five young people who are foreigners. Another one is being sought.”
“One thing’s for sure. Lesbos can’t stand any more slogans. It wants seriousness and robust administration. I assure you that logic and legitimacy, safety, health, and normal life will prevail,” he said.
The prosecutor of Mytilene has charged the four adult migrants with not only felony arson but also with the formation of a criminal group. Some of the migrants were arrested after being transferred from Lesbos following the fire. They are set to be returned to Lesbos where they will face their charges.
Following the fire, several European nations have proposed taking in migrants from Greece, including Germany, which has offered to take up to 1,500 people from Lesbos and four other Greek islands.
Other countries, such as Austria, have stated that they will not be taking in any migrants from Greece at all. Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said their country would donate money to a Foreign Disaster Fund instead.”
Eyewitness: German leftist NGO’s, migrants responsible for Moria fire
German photographer Rebecca Somer was in Moria when the migrant camp on the Greek island of Lesbos went up in flames recently. German anti-facist NGOs were allegedly responsible for the arson.

Greek news outlet Thestival reported how Sommer recorded what was happening at the Moria migrant camp. On September 10, Sommer also gave a telephone interview to the German online magazine, Tichys Einblick in which she revealed the suspicious role of NGOs and how the arson of the migrant camp had been meticulously organised.
According to Sommer, the presence of jihadist groups was revealing, with weapons circulating in the camp.
While an attempt was made to blame the residents of the island for the migrant camp fire, Sommer says a man and a woman from a German NGO along with Afghans and Arabs were reportedly lighting the fires near the tents. Illegal migrants were informed in advance to gather their belongings and leave as several outbreaks of fire erupted simultaneously.
“Firefighters and volunteers sit outside the migrant camp and wait to intervene if necessary. Many times during the weeks I was on the island there were fires. Most of the asylum seekers here in Moria show no respect and are extremely aggressive towards the police. Monday afternoon was particularly bad. The firefighters’ attempt to extinguish the fire was violently thwarted,” she told Tichys Einblick.
“Residents of the surrounding villages are worried because some of those who left the Reception Center are violent and armed. They circulate in groups of five or ten people,” she added. “There are also rumors of weapons from Erdogan’s army.”
“There are a lot of jihadists here, strictly pious Muslims, even the Taliban. You can distinguish them from their Taliban clothes. It is a very specific way of dressing. They were shown to me by the residents of the camp,” she explained.
According to Sommer, the NGO Seawatch is involved not only in human trafficking but also in drug trafficking. “Seawatch Antifa provides migrants with regular passports – illegally of course – so that they can then use the passports to leave the island and travel to the country with drugs in their luggage.”
“I’m ashamed to be German here,” Sommer said. “There are an incredible number of German NGOs that behave as if they were the masters of this island and this country. I heard from two Germans that they even used drones to spy on a Greek military base and were arrested last week for that.”
The photographer said Syrians were almost non-existent with many of the ostensibly affluent migrants coming from Africa instead. But “the vast majority we have here are Afghans, mainly from the Hazaras, who are also the main group of Afghans in Germany. Young boys with modern haircuts and mobile phones and often with stylish clothes.”

Belgium: “There can be no more Morias” – EU Commissioner Johansson on refugee crisis
European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson confirmed that hundreds of unaccompanied children from the Greek islands, including Lesbos, will be relocated to other European Union member states.
“We already have started, as you know, the relocation of unaccompanied minors to other member states and now we will step up on this and continue this coordination and relocation of unaccompanied minors,” said the politician in Brussels on Thursday.
She continued by stressing that a new centre for thousands of people left homeless in the Moria camp fire is “a priority,” but “there can be no more Morias.”
Johansson added, “We need a fresh start on migration and this is the right moment.”
The Moria migrant camp was the largest in Europe, exceeding almost four times its maximum capacity of 3,100 people, hosting around 13,000 migrants living in poor sanitary conditions.
The Greek authorities built a new 3,000 capacity camp over the weekend to house some of the migrants left without any shelter in the aftermath of the fires.

Also on Wednesday, police arrested six people in connection with the Moria fires from last week. Lockdowns remain in place on at least two of the five Greek Aegean islands.
13 people have been detained on the Greek Aegean island of Samos after a fire broke out next to the local migrant camp, police said Wednesday (September 16).
Most suspects were later released but three remain under questioning, news agency AFP reported citing a local police source. The officer declined to identify the nationalities of the suspects, according to AFP.
The fire reportedly broke out in a forested area near the Vathy migrant camp late on Tuesday (September 15). However, firefighters were able to bring it under control.

“A leading Tory MP announced he will refuse to partake in the Black Lives Matter inspired ‘unconscious bias training’ in the House of Commons.
Former vice-chairman of the Conservative Party and MP for Mansfield, Nottinghamshire said that the move to introduce the training was a signal of how groupthink has infected the metropolitan elite in London, including “the BBC, the British Library, or even government departments”.
“This particular idea, that we all need to be re-educated and taught to suppress our innate urge to be awful to each other all the time, is costing the taxpayer a bomb as it rolls through our various government agencies and quangos. Next, it’s the turn of MPs to be told that all of our thoughts are offensive and should be corrected,” Bradley wrote in Conservative Home.
“Let me be clear right from the off; I will not be taking it,” Bradley pronounced.
The Tory MP said that he felt the idea of elected politicians being “educated” on the propper opinions to hold is undemocratic, questioning: “Who gets to decide which issues or views are appropriate for me to raise on behalf of my constituents?”
Mr Bradley said he has faced accusations of sexism and racism for raising the issues facing working-class white boys in his community. “If it causes offence to a handful should I keep quiet?” he queried.
“The biggest issue filling my inbox is illegal immigration, something thousands of my constituents feel very strongly about, but it’s a bit controversial, isn’t it, so should I leave it alone? The thought police will be the death of open debate and stymie our democracy,” he warned.
In contrast to Bradley, some in the House of Commons have already mouthed the rhetoric of unconscious bias training, proclaiming their inner racism, in statements reminiscent of the struggle sessions during Mao Zedong’s Cultural Revolution in communist China.
“I am guilty of thinking it’s enough that I don’t make racist comments or actively discriminate. I am guilty of expecting that black colleagues will explain everything, rather than seeking out the answers myself… I am sorry,” said Emily Baldock, Parliament’s Deputy Head of Security.
Clerk of the House of Commons, John Benger added in: “I recognise the power, privilege and responsibility that comes with my position. I pledge to use this to tackle racism, remove barriers and work for a more diverse and representative House of Commons. I will also continue to listen, self-reflect and be an ally for black and ethnic minority colleagues.”
While Bradley acknowledged that there are forms of prejudice in society, the Tory MP rejected the notion that there is any proof that forcing politicians to sit through re-education sessions will do anything, “apart from big profits for the training company.”
He pointed to a report of a £7,000 British taxpayer-funded bias training session for MPs, which featured a blue “Cookie Monster-Esque” puppet, which told elected officials to refrain from using allegedly offensive terms such as “pensioner” and “lady”. The company responsible for the session has reported having already raked in some hundreds of thousands of pounds in taxpayer money.
“Apparently, the puppet also plans to tell me which version of history I must use and which bits I should delete from my memory – improving my “cultural competency” – which is going to cost us around £700,000 in total. Needless to say, I’m not convinced that this is an appropriate use of taxpayer’s money,” Bradley wrote.
The Conservative MP concluded by calling for his party to stand up to the woke thought police and to be “unabashed in our cultural conservatism, sticking up for free speech and the right to ‘make my own bloody mind up, thank you very much’”.”

Secy Esper: China is no match for U.S. naval might
While calling for the formation of a new multilateral alliance in the Indo-Pacific region to counteract Chinese aggression, U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper asserted America and its allies will be ready to face the challenges of the coming century.
Esper made these remarks during an address at a seminar in California that was organized by the Rand Corporation, which is a prominent non-partisan policy think tank.
His speech heavily focused on the threat posed by Chinese global aggression. This is something Esper said is not only limited to its willingness to leverage its economic power to encroach into other country’s sovereignty, but is also seen in the Chinese government’s ongoing military build-up.

Denmark: “Wake-up call for all of us” – WHO warns amid European virus surge
WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Henri P. Kluge warned of a ‘wake-up call’ surge of coronavirus cases in September at a press conference alongside WHO senior emergency officer Catherine Smallwood from Copenhagen on Thursday.
“Our efforts, our sacrifices paid off. In June, cases hit an all-time low. The September case numbers, however, should serve as a wake-up call for all of us. Although these numbers reflect more comprehensive testing, it also shows alarming rates of transmission across the region,” Kluge stated.
He then stressed the importance of complying with the 14-day-quarantine period, that covers a “conservative estimate of the infectious period.”
“Knowing the immense individual and societal impact, even a slight reduction in the length of current time can have, and given the figures I have just mentioned, I encouraged countries of the region to make scientific due process with the experts and explore safe reduction options. The concept of quarantine must be protected, continuously adapted, clarified and well communicated without any ambiguity to the people,” he added.
The WHO Regional Director for Europe acknowledged the need for more health care equipment, hospitals and the involvement of care and health workers protection to keep society running, asking for an “amplified collective effort by all European member states for the sake of all European member states” in response to the crisis, where “partisanship and misinformation prevailed.”
Kluge stressed the further need for testing, hand washing, physical distancing, masks when physical distancing is not possible and avoiding large gatherings to curb the outbreak.

At a time of unprecedented global crisis, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and other threats, the Secretary-General sees opportunities to shift course away from isolationism and toward common goals.

Secretary-General António Guterres said the COVID-19 pandemic “is a threat, it is a problem,” but also an opportunity to “change in the right direction,” following the “blueprint” of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

On the role of young people, the Secretary-General said, “this very strong commitment of the young people to ideas like Universal Health Coverage; to ideas like climate action; to ideas like more justice and equality in our societies; gender equality, fight against racism. All these aspects show a very committed young people. That is the biggest hope I have in relation to our common future.”
He outlined the importance of women taking power for themselves, ending inequalities through a sea change in attitudes over discrimination, gender, disabilities and equal rights.
He said, “men must understand that it is in the interest of everybody, not only of women, to have gender equality and gender parity, because the world will be better. It is true we live in a male-dominated world with a male-dominated culture. That is why it is so important in the UN to reach parity. And we have done it at the top level, but we now need to do it everywhere. There is essentially a question of power.”
The UN chief reiterated the imperative of silencing the guns through a global ceasefire so the world can truly unite against the virus; building true solidarity through the global public good of a vaccine for all, available to all; and making sure the world keeps global warming below 1.5 degrees and achieves carbon neutrality through climate action, by 2050.
He said, “let’s make sure that we have a global ceasefire. Let’s make sure that we’ll have a vaccine that is a global public good, and people’s vaccine. And let’s make sure that when we rebuild our economies, we do so to reach carbon neutrality in 2050.”

The Possible Limits of China-Russia Cooperation

China and Russia’s coordinated policies in foreign affairs and economic endeavors belie deep-seated fissures that might well prevent their current period of cooperation from evolving into a sustained alliance.
Despite China’s planned participation in Russia’s annual Caucus 2020 exercises on September 21-26, Sino-Russian history is so replete with war, unequal treaties and racism, there seems little probability that their present military cooperation will succeed in developing into a military alliance.
The current Russo-Chinese cooperation seems loosely rooted in the notion that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Both countries apparently believe that checking U.S. power is in their national interests. China wants the U.S. to withdraw from its military and diplomatic commitments in the Western Pacific, thereby allowing Beijing to assert primacy in Asia, at least for a start. Russia seems to want the U.S. to decouple itself from the decades-old NATO alliance, thereby enabling Moscow to re-assert its dominance in the Baltic region and Eastern Europe.

“European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has proposed abolishing current European Union asylum rules, suggesting new measures could force member states to take migrants through a “new strong solidarity mechanism”.
President Von der Leyen told the European Parliament on Wednesday that the asylum system needed to be changed, likely to make it easier to distribute migrants from countries where they first arrive, such as Greece and Italy.
Current Dublin agreement regulations state that asylum seekers must apply for asylum in the first European Union member state they enter, which often means a larger percentage of migrants in countries along the EU’s border.
“We will abolish the Dublin regulation, and we will replace it with a new European migration governance system,” von der Leyen said, according to Swedish broadcaster SVT.
“It will have common structures on asylum and return, and it will have a new strong solidarity mechanism,” she said and added: “I am very much looking forward to the debate. Let’s discuss. There will be things where we will agree and places where we will not. So, I’m looking forward to the next few days and weeks.”
While the proposal could see support from Italy and Greece, SVT’s correspondent Christoffer Wendick noted that many other countries within the EU could oppose the idea.
Hungary has long resisted proposals to redistribute migrants in the EU and is likely one of the countries that will object to changing the asylum rules.
The Austrian government has also made it clear that it will not accept new migrants, stating last week that it preferred to send aid to Greece following a fire at the Moria migrant camp that left more than 10,000 migrants homeless.
Since the fire, six migrants have been arrested in connection with the blaze, which Greek authorities have claimed was a deliberate arson.”
Joe Biden’s 2016 call with ex-Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko is leaked
A phone call between Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was leaked Tuesday showing the two former leaders discussing what the then-vice president could and couldn’t tell the incoming Trump administration, with Biden telling the foreign leader that he wants to stay “deeply engaged” in their diplomatic work as a private citizen.
The call, revealed by Ukrainian politician Andriy Derkach, took place on Nov. 16, 2016, just a week after then-candidate Donald Trump won the presidential election.
During the exchange, the outgoing vice president and the then-president of Ukraine discussed the topic of visas, “something we have tried to sell to the Ukrainian people,” Poroshenko said.
“Hey, Petro. It’s Joe. How are you?” the conversation between the two began.
“Very well indeed, as usual, when I hear your voice, my dear friend,” Poroshenko responded.
The call then went dark and picked back up with Poroshenko saying, “And if President [Obama] can also support us, not only with the means, but with visa-free, that is something we have tried to sell to the Ukrainian people. And still hoping that you can come, maybe on the 21st of November, on our anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity and that would be very big delivery.”
The vice president told Poroshenko that he was not able to visit on the date in question before warning that a future visit at a later date was dependent on how the Ukrainian responded to the incoming Trump administration.
“With regard to my coming on the 21st, as I told you I can never come … the 21st. I am going to try to come immediately after, in early December. But here’s where I am now, part of my answer to that depends on what was your conversation with our president-elect?” he asked the Ukrainian president.
The former vice president went on to divulge his view that the Trump campaign did not believe they were going to win the 2016 election and because of this, their transition team was not up to the job.
“One of the things I’ve been doing is spending — they are not making the — I’m not being critical, but they, the new administration, the incoming administration has been very, very slow on getting ready for transition. Quite frankly, like most of America, they didn’t think they were going to win the election, so they did not have a fulsome transition team. As a matter of fact, they changed their transition team. Transition is a very, very delicate and precise dance, it goes on from administration to administration over the last 100 years and it requires the exchange of classified information and the like,” Biden continued, knocking his incoming successors for their handling of the transition.
As a result, he said, he had withheld some information regarding Ukraine from his counterparts in the Trump transition team.
“And the people they put forward to be part of the transition have to be cleared to do that, just as we had to be cleared after the Bush administration, etc. They have not done that, they’re trying to catch up and do it now since they fired the guy who headed up the transition just last week. The reason I bother to tell you that is I have been somewhat limited on what I am able to tell their team about Ukraine,” he admitted.
“The truth of the matter is that the incoming administration doesn’t know a great deal about the situation. So I am meeting with the vice president-elect, who is the only one who has any foreign policy experience,” he added, speaking of Vice President Mike Pence.
During the Obama administration, Biden handled policy on Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan and China, something he was selected to handle due to his 30 years on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
His handling of Ukraine policy came under the microscope last year during President Trump’s impeachment trial.
The president was impeached by the Democrat-controlled House over his actions related to Ukraine, specifically that he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about investigations of Biden and his son Hunter, who sat on the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company heavily involved in corruption.
Derkach, responsible for leaking the call, is facing his own legal problems. Derkach, a pro-Russian Ukrainian politician, was sanctioned by the US Treasury Department last week on charges of foreign interference in the US election.
Derkach has been repeatedly identified as a malign actor by US intelligence agencies, notably gaining attention after meeting with Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani last year to provide information on Biden.
While speaking to the then-vice president, Poroshenko could be heard saying that Biden played “an enormous role in bringing peace to my country, and actually save my country. This is my real feeling.”
Biden thanked Poroshenko for his kind words before divulging some of his plans for after he left the White House.
“Well, you’re awfully generous. I don’t plan on going away. As a private citizen, I plan on staying deeply engaged in the endeavor that you have begun and we have begun.
“At least that’s my objective, that’s my objective. But if I go beforehand, I’m worried that they don’t know enough, they will think I’m trying to game them. They will think I am trying to put them in a corner. They will question my motives in going before they are fully briefed. And I’m sure you understand that, you’re a good negotiator,” Biden said toward the end of the leaked conversation.
The Biden campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.

Biden famously threatened Poroshenko in March 2016, telling him that the Obama administration would pull $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees if he didn’t immediately fire Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who was investigating corruption at Burisma Holdings, a natural gas company that employed his son Hunter Biden.
Last May, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky called for an investigation after audio recordings from that telephone conversation leaked.
Shokin described how Poroshenko had pressured him to tank the Burisma investigation in a a sworn affidavit prepared for a European court.
“On several occasions President Poroshenko asked me to have a look at the case against Burisma and consider the possibility of winding down the investigative actions in respect of this company but I refused to close this investigation,” Shokin testified. “The truth is that I was forced out because I was leading a wide-ranging corruption probe into Burisma Holdings, a natural gas firm active in Ukraine and Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was a member of the Board of Directors.”
In the November 16, 2016 phone call, Biden told Poroshenko that Trump’s team was not up to speed and unprepared for the transition: “The truth of the matter is that the incoming administration doesn’t know a great deal about the situation,” he said.
Biden also asked the then-president of Ukraine what he said in his phone call with the newly elected Trump, saying that his potential trip to Ukraine in December depended on the answer.
“With regard to my coming on the 21st, as I told you I can never come … the 21st. I am going to try to come immediately after, in early December. But here’s where I am now, part of my answer to that depends on what was your conversation with our president-elect?” Biden said.
The former vice president then began disparaging the incoming Trump team in earnest, saying that they did not think they were going to win the election and because of this, the incoming administration was not up to the job.
“One of the things I’ve been doing is spending — they are not making the — I’m not being critical, but they, the new administration, the incoming administration has been very, very slow on getting ready for transition,” Biden said. “Quite frankly, like most of America, they didn’t think they were going to win the election, so they did not have a fulsome transition team. As a matter of fact, they changed their transition team. Transition is a very, very delicate and precise dance, it goes on from administration to administration over the last 100 years and it requires the exchange of classified information and the like,” he continued.
Biden went on to divulge that he had withheld some information regarding Ukraine from members of the Trump transition team.
“And the people they put forward to be part of the transition have to be cleared to do that, just as we had to be cleared after the Bush administration, etc. They have not done that, they’re trying to catch up and do it now since they fired the guy who headed up the transition just last week. The reason I bother to tell you that is I have been somewhat limited on what I am able to tell their team about Ukraine,” he explained.
In November of 2016, Trump fired two very questionable individuals who had been handling national security for the transition, former Rep. Mike Rogers of Michigan and lobbyist Matthew Freedman. The “purge” was reportedly orchestrated by Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and close adviser.
“The truth of the matter is that the incoming administration doesn’t know a great deal about the situation. So I am meeting with the vice president-elect, who is the only one who has any foreign policy experience,” he added, referring to Vice President Mike Pence.
At the time, it should be noted, the FBI was conducting a counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russia based the Democrat-funded opposition research gathered by the anti-Trump former British spy Christopher Steele.
Poroshenko said that Biden played “an enormous role in bringing peace to my country, and actually save my country,” and Biden thanked him for his kind words. He went on to divulge his plans to remain involved in U.S-Ukrainian policy even after leaving office.
“Well, you’re awfully generous,” Biden said, adding, “I don’t plan on going away. As a private citizen, I plan on staying deeply engaged in the endeavor that you have begun and we have begun.”
The former VP then expressed concern that the incoming administration might question his motives if he set up a foreign policy backchannel for himself after he left office as a private citizen.
“I’m worried that they don’t know enough, they will think I’m trying to game them,” Biden explained. “They will think I am trying to put them in a corner. They will question my motives in going before they are fully briefed. And I’m sure you understand that, you’re a good negotiator,” he added.
In a post at the Federalist Thursday, Alex Plitsas, a national security expert and U.S. Army combat veteran of the Iraq War, called Biden’s offer to set up a backchannel with Ukraine after he left office a potential Logan Act violation, an ironic twist since it was Biden himself who suggested using the rarely used law against National Security Advisor Michael Flynn as a pretext to pursue criminal charges against him.
The Logan Act bars private citizens from engaging in U.S. foreign policy, although its constitutionality remains questionable and no person has ever been convicted of violating it since it was signed into law in 1799. Ironically, this is the same act that, at Joe Biden’s suggestion, the FBI accused National Security Advisor Michael Flynn of violating as a result of a discussion Flynn had with the Russian ambassador to the United States around nearly the same time as Biden’s call with Poroshenko.
Plitsas pointed out that the conversation posed a threat to national security since the call had “obviously” been recorded by the Ukrainians (because it was leaked by a Ukrainian member of Parliament) and probably also recorded by Russian intelligence services.
So Biden, the sitting vice president of the United States, told a foreign leader whose country was part of a highly classified FBI counterintelligence investigation that there were things he couldn’t share about his country with the incoming administration and that they weren’t cleared. We now know from subsequent investigations that the Trump administration did not in fact collude with Russia, but at the time, Biden didn’t and he was privy to the fact that the FBI had opened the investigation.
If Russian intelligence had actually penetrated the incoming Trump administration, Biden’s comments would have almost certainly tipped them off that something was amiss, placing our national security in grave danger.
Additionally, it is mind-boggling that the vice president felt comfortable telling a foreign leader that there were things he was unable to tell the incoming administration at the same time the Department of Justice and the FBI failed to notify President-elect Trump of potential counterintelligence risks (that ended up not being true) posed by members of his campaign team who might join his administration in official capacities.
Robert Gates, who served as defense secretary for the Obama administration, said in his memoir that Biden has “been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.” Despite Biden’s established record of failure on foreign policy, Obama selected him to be the “point man” on Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan and China due to his 30 years on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
As the hapless Biden campaigns to be the nation’s next commander-in-chief, we continue to see the fallout from Obama’s unfortunate choice.
