Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    “Iran is weighing the possibility of carrying out an assassination plot as revenge for the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, Politico reported, citing official sources familiar with the intelligence. According to the report, the target could be the US ambassador to South Africa.

    According to the unnamed officials, Iran is seeking for a way to retaliate against Soleimani’s murder, an extrajudicial killing directly ordered by US President Donald Trump. A reported possibility of assassinating the US ambassador would significantly ramp up tensions between the countries, according to reports.

    “US officials have been aware of a general threat against the ambassador, Lana Marks, since the spring, the officials said”, Politico wrote, citing unnamed sources, adding that the Iranian embassy in Pretoria is believed to be involved in the alleged plot.

    Marks has reportedly been warned about the alleged threat. While the option to target her was viewed by the US government as possible, intelligence data has become more specific in recent weeks.

    Politico’s sources said they do not know why Marks would be considered by Tehran as a target, since she has “few, if any, known links to Iran”. It was suggested that she would be an easier target than other US diplomats.

    An assassination plot would, if successful, follow the assassination of top Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a drone strike ordered by the US president in January 2020. Iran responded by carrying out several missile attacks on US military bases in Iraq in the days following Soleimani’s death, which did not claim any lives, but reportedly left many US soldiers with brain trauma.

    Soleimani’s assassination was vehemently condemned by Tehran, but no retaliatory killing has been known to have been committed by Iran, with IRGC Deputy Commander for Political Affairs, Yadollah Javani, indicating that Iran could not “find anyone similar to retaliate against”, since no top US military official could, according to the military commander, compare with Soleimani.”

    “In recent weeks, the Danish Hard Line party has torched several copies of the Quran in what it dubbed “Swedish ghettos”, ostensibly to protest the spread of Islam and celebrate freedom of speech.

    After Danish politician Rasmus Paludan’s Hard Line party launched a Quran-burning tour across Sweden, 15 Muslim congregations have voiced their desire to change Sweden’s laws to ban the mockery of religion. They’ve indicated that this should specifically include the burning of holy scriptures.

    “We do not want it to be legal in Sweden to burn holy scriptures such as the Quran, the Bible and the Jewish scriptures, and that at the same time it should be forbidden to mock the various religions,” imam Hussein Farah Warsame told the newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

    The Quran-burnings have also been condemned by multiple Swedish politicians across the political spectrum, as well as Archbishop Antje Jackelén. As a member of the Swedish Christian Council, she strongly disapproved the “conscious violations of people’s faith”, according to the newspaper Expressen.

    “To burn books is barbaric. Not least books that many hold as holy,” the council wrote in a statement, warning that these actions “stoke polarisation between people, and counters integration efforts”. “We express our strong sympathy with the Muslim believers in our country,” the Christian leaders concluded.

    Since the end of August, the anti-Islamic ethno-nationalist Hard Line party has burned several Qurans in what it described as “Swedish ghettos”, most notably in Malmö’s ethnic enclave of Rosengård, in defiance of a police decision not to grant demonstration permits.

    This stoked Islamic riots that led to several police officers being injured. The Swedish authorities failed to stop the demonstration, and the city of Malmö subsequently denied any religious undertone to the riots. Since then, Hard Line members have torched Qurans in Stockholm’s Rinkeby, Gothenburg’s Angered and Trollhättan.

    Meanwhile, the police’s decision not to grant permission for an anti-Islam demonstrations that feature Quran-burnings and well as the near-universal condemnation by politicians means in practice “the re-introduction of blasphemy laws” in Sweden, lawyer and columnist Nima Rostami wrote in his opinion piece in the news outlet Nyheter Idag, suggesting that it undermines democracy and empowers Islamists by giving them legitimacy.

    Sweden’s Islamic community has been growing through mass immigration starting from the 1960s. A 2017 Pew Research estimate suggested that Muslims account for 8.1 percent of the Swedish population of roughly ten million – a figure which is growing owing to continued immigration and current demographic trends that include lower birthrates among ethnic Swedes.”

    I believe Putin goes to Minsk today. The protesters are afraid, I gather, that Lukashenko will sell the country out to Putin in order to save his own skin. The situation is bad and apparently getting worse. Last week I heard of some security forces who were on the receiving side of some protesters who jumped into a river to escape another gang of thug police chasing them. The security forces on the other side of the river, however, helped the protesters escape! Then, the police imprisoned all the security personnel who had helped the protesters.

    Yes, it is market forces to a point. But as government favoured the Amazons and WalMarts–the biggest–during the shutdown, was it really market forces that disadvantaged the smaller companies, or government?

    “Muslim extremists have carried out a door-to-door anti-Christian murder campaign this summer, killing over 500 Christians since June, Christianpersecution(.)com reported.

    The Ethiopian Tewahedo Orthodox Church has called on the government of Ethiopia to act decisively to stop the ongoing slaughter of Christians and the destruction of churches, the September 9 report states.

    Since late June, the attacks by Oromo Islamist radicals have entailed the murder of upwards of 500 Christians, including pregnant women, children, and entire families in the Oromia regional state, which includes the nation’s capital of Addis Ababa.

    The assailants are members of a Muslim Oromo male youth movement called Qeerroo, meaning “bachelors.”

    Throughout the summer, the Qeerroo radicals traveled about in cars, armed with guns, machetes, swords, and spears, seeking out and slaughtering Christians door to door, the Barnabas Fund reported earlier this month in a chilling story ignored by mainstream media.

    The targeted killings of Christians followed on the alleged assassination of a popular Oromo singer, Hachallu Hundessa, who was reportedly shot dead on 29 June while driving in the outskirts of Addis Ababa.

    A field report released in July stated: “These were the most horrific days for Christians in the Oromo region. There are different factions in the region. Some are ethno-nationalist and others are religious. The majority of those who got killed in a brutal way (beheaded and mutilated) are Orthodox Christian of Amhara Ethnicity.”

    The report declared that no governmental security forces were present at the scene of the murders and no one stopped or interfered with the killings.

    At that time, Archbishop Abune Henok, Primate of the diocese of West Arsi in the Oromo region, stated that Orthodox Christians were purposefully being targeted and killed, noting that more than 239 Orthodox Christians had already been slaughtered.

    Attacks on Christians were confirmed in numerous towns and villages including Arsi Negele, Ziway, Shashemane, Gedeb Asasa, Kofele, Dodola, Adaba, Robe, Goba, Bale Agarfa, Chiro, Harar, Dire Dawa, Adama, Dera, Asela and Kembolcha, reaching to the far south-east and east of the country.

    Some of the Islamists carried lists of the names of Christians, particularly prominent Church members, and hunted them down, often with the assistance of local officials in the Oromia region, Barnabas reported.

    Attackers captured one local Christian and told him to remove the thread around his neck worn by many Ethiopian Christians as a sign of their baptism. When the man refused, his captors cut off his head.

    “The attackers said that it is only he/she who prostrates with us before Allah for prayer who is considered an Oromo,” the man’s widow declared.

    Local eyewitnesses also recounted that the killers desecrated corpses by “dancing and singing, carrying the chopped or hacked body parts of those they slaughtered.” Raiders also dragged the hacked bodies of an elderly Christian couple through the streets of Gedeb Asasa.

    Along with the killings, extremists also burned down numerous Christians’ businesses and houses, vandalizing or destroying others, reportedly causing billions of dollars’ worth of property damage.

    The ongoing murders have been compared to the surge of killings that led to the Rwandan genocide. Initially slow to intervene, government security forces have since carried out thousands of arrests, including of local officials complicit in the attacks.”

    “The U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon said it rescued on Monday 36 people onboard a ship carrying migrants outside Lebanon’s territorial waters.

    The force, known as UNIFIL, said there were 37 migrants on the ship but that one had died by the time the peacekeepers rescued the migrants. The statement did not give a cause of death.

    It did not say where the ship was heading. Some Lebanese have been trying to flee the tiny Mediterranean nation lately, after Lebanon has been shaken by multiple crises, including its worst economic and financial crisis in decades.

    Tens of thousands have lost jobs over the past year while the local currency, the Lebanese pound, lost nearly 80% of its value, plunging half the country’s population into poverty.

    The survivors were being provided immediate medical assistance on board the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force vessel before being transferred to the Lebanese authorities, the U.N. force said. It added that UNIFIL’s ship was en route toward the Port of Beirut.

    Last week, authorities in Cyprus said they were alarmed over the arrival of four boats carrying Syrian and Lebanese migrants in waters off its coastline. European Union member Cyprus and Lebanon have an agreement to prevent migrants from reaching the island nation.

    Lebanon, a country of 5 million people, is also home to nearly 1 million Syrian refugees, as well as tens of thousands of Palestinians.

    Over the past years, hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees have fled their country’s civil war, seeking sanctuary in EU countries. Most of the Syrians have made it to Europe through Turkey.

    Lebanese naval forces have in the past prevented ships carrying migrants from leaving Lebanon but the force has been overwhelmed since the Aug. 4 explosion at Beirut’s port that killed at least 190 and injured thousands. Much of the port was destroyed.

    UNIFIL’s commander Maj. Gen. Stefano Del Col said the peacekeepers “are doing their utmost to save the lives of these people” and that their “priority is to ensure the safety of all the 36 people we have just rescued.””

    “- The head of the United Nations’ atomic watchdog agency told board members on Monday he is hopeful Iran’s decision to let inspectors in to two disputed sites could lead to greater trust with Tehran.

    Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in late August secured an agreement with Iran to inspect the two sites where the country is suspected of having stored or used undeclared nuclear material and possibly having conducted nuclear-related activities.

    The agreement, which came after Grossi personally visited Tehran to meet with Iranian leaders, ended a months-long impasse over two locations thought to be from the early 2000s.

    Iran had been permitting IAEA inspectors in to current nuclear sites agreed upon in the landmark 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, but had argued the other two sites dated from before the deal so there was no reason to grant access.

    The IAEA in March identified the two sites as places where Iran possibly stored and/or used undeclared nuclear material or undertook nuclear-related activities without declaring them to international observers.

    Grossi told the agency’s board of governors in Vienna that inspectors had already visited one site and would visit another later this month.

    “I welcome the agreement between the agency and Iran, which I hope will reinforce cooperation and enhance mutual trust,” he said, according to a copy of his prepared remarks.

    The ultimate goal of the nuclear deal is to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear bomb, which Iran insists it does not want to do.

    Since President Donald Trump pulled the U.S. unilaterally out of the pact in 2018, Iran has steadily been violating restrictions on the amount of uranium it can enrich and the purity it is allowed to enrich to, and other limits.

    But one reason the other countries involved — Germany, France, Britain, China and Russia — say that it’s important to maintain the agreement is for the access IAEA inspectors continue to get to Iran’s nuclear facilities.”

    Have White House ‘leaks’ been ‘leaking’ out through the IT/telecom systems?

    On Saturday, RedState’s Stu Cvrk posed, in essence, that headline question in an article about LTC Alexander Vindman, whom we increasingly understand to have been the real leaker (it’s not legitimate to call him or anyone else a “whistleblower”) behind the Ukraine-phone-call dust-up of 2019.

    Cvrk pulls no punches in his evaluation of Vindman, and speaks for many in that regard. I could have overlooked Vindman as – in Cvrk’s words – a “typical overweight, rear-echelon staff puke who picked up a Purple Heart from a roadside IED that hit his vehicle.” Life throws a lot at you; you suck it up. But I was disgusted that Vindman would put on his dress uniform and parade for photo ops for the purpose of framing straw-man smears against the president to Congress, after he was ordered not to make that appearance by his commander-in-chief. The CINC has every right, and every law on his side in the circumstances, to give that order.

    It’s happened again: a leak seemingly from inside the White House has got official Washington in a lather

    This time, it’s about a notation in briefing materials for President Trump. According to CNN and the Washington Post, information forwarded to Trump about this week’s election in Russia contained the warning “DO NOT CONGRATULATE.” Trump’s staff, in other words, was warning him not to call Putin in a precipitate manner to offer congratulations for Putin’s predictable win (in an election we need have no doubt was tilted unfairly in Putin’s favor, in every possible way).

    “The progressive leader of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) has called on Europeans to open their doors to migrants stranded in camps in Libya, Lesbos, and Lampedusa.

    “Open the doors. If we do not open the doors to refugees, we also close the doors to Christ. If we want to open the doors to Christ, we must also open the doors to refugees,” said Jesuit Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich in an interview Monday with SIR, the news agency of the Italian Bishops Conference.

    “Italy has given us the example of being able to react in a much more Christian way than other countries,” Cardinal Hollerich said in reference to the massive number of migrants taken in by Italy over the past five years.

    Last year, Pope Francis sent the Luxembourg cardinal to the Greek island of Lesbos along with Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, the papal almoner, to visit the refugee camps of Moria and Kara Tepe.

    “In recent years, we have pronounced beautiful speeches on human rights and European values and there were some people who believed what we were saying,” the cardinal said in reference to the trip. “But when they arrived there, to the European border, they realized that what we said were only lies.”

    “We talked to the people; we went into their tents. What struck me most was the absolute lack of hope in people,” he said.

    Not long after returning from Lesbos, the cardinal had harsh words for his fellow Europeans, saying they should be “ashamed” for not opening their nations to migrants.

    Speaking at his cathedral in Luxembourg City last December, Hollerich censured his fellow Europeans for not coming to the aid of those living in refugee camps on Lesbos.

    “There are definitely children there that will vanish and be forced into child prostitution,” the cardinal said. “There are children there who will be taught to steal. Others will be raped and assaulted. This is gruesome.”

    “This is not happening far from Luxembourg in some place where we cannot help,” he continued. “This is happening in Greece — in Europe and in the European Union. We must be fiercely ashamed that we have not done anything to help.”

    In his interview Monday, Hollerich said that Catholic prelates should put greater pressure on their governments to take in more immigrants.

    “I would be delighted if the Episcopal Conferences of Europe could speak with their governments and tell the political leaders that the Church expects a welcome,” he said.

    “After the gigantic fire in the Moria refugee camp, France and Germany announced their willingness to accept most of the 400 unaccompanied minors that the EU has said it is ready to accept,” he said. “But that is not enough. It is a figure that is almost ridiculous.”

    Asked why the rich countries of the North of Europe do next to nothing for migrants, the cardinal responded that “in Europe, Christianity and humanism are lacking.””

    Like all progressive groups, The Satanic Temple came out in support of Black Lives Matter.

    The Satanic Temple, which distinguishes itself from its rival, The Church of Satan, through its rigorously progressive politics while accusing The Church of Satan of libertarianism, put out a statement by co-founder Lucien Greaves that blasted President Trump and accused the police of randomly killing black people that could have come from any random leftist organization.

    “I watched with dismay as, in reaction to the election of Donald Trump, the least qualified, least dignified, least competent president in all of U.S. history,” complained Greaves, whose real name is Douglas Mesner, and who has been known to pose wearing goat horns on his head.

    Steve Hill ran in a Democrat State Senate primary as the first Satanist to seek public office. While he lost, the Satanist and Bernie Sanders supporter was able to secure over 10,000 votes from California Democrats. Since then, Hill has participated in a Black Lives Matter rally and one comment noted the “solidarity between Black Lives Matter and Satanists.”

    Iran’s belated offer to allow United Nations nuclear inspectors to visit two controversial nuclear sites should be seen as nothing more than a stunt to get the international ban on arms sales to Tehran lifted.

    Washington is fighting attempts by the UN Security Council to lift the arms embargo on Iran, a document that dates back to 2007, and comes up for renewal next month.

    This effort has prompted Iran to launch a diplomatic offensive to have the arms embargo lifted, a move that would allow Tehran to increase its ability to supply arms to terror groups such as Hizbollah and Hamas, as well as the Houthi rebels in Yemen fighting US-backed coalition forces.

    As part of the Iranian campaign, Tehran has reached a deal with the UN-sponsored International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Vienna-based organization responsible for monitoring global nuclear issues, to allow inspectors to visit two controversial sites that are suspected of being part of Iran’s controversial nuclear programme.

    The IAEA has been in a dispute with Iran over Tehran’s refusal to allow inspectors to visit the sites following suspicions that they have been involved in activity related to Iran’s nuclear programme that has not been declared to the UN body.

    Greece has opened a 3,000-capacity tent camp for the migrants made homeless by the Moria fire — but amid unrest over conditions only a few hundred have entered so far. Athens says they will all be housed within a week.

    Greece said Sunday it hoped thousands of asylum seekers left homeless by fires at Europe’s largest migrant camp on the island of Lesbos could be rehoused within a week.

    The announcement came as a new so-called tent city at Kara Tepe opened to the first people.

    At least 300 people were expected to move into the 3,000-capacity camp by the end of the day on Sunday.

    Greek Migration Minister Notis Mitarachi told reporters Sunday that: “In five days the operation will be concluded. Everybody will be inside the new camp.”

    But a large number of migrants, who were residents of the destroyed Moria camp, have refused to enter the new facility, demanding asylum to other EU countries or better living conditions.

I am following a vicious beating death of a 75 year old woman. The defence seems to be planting the seed, the person being charged, is a victim of drug abuse. He might not have been totally in control. Funny how we are told drugs are not that bad but are also used by defence attorneys to get murderers light sentences.

    Years ago I knew a woman who was killed by a young man who rented a room in her house. In a drug induced state, as the defence claimed, he hit her with a hammer and put a five inch hole in her skull, while she was sleeping on her couch.
    With time served he was out within 2 years. He was a victim of drug abuse, poor him.

    The research, based on polling of 1,011 Muslims and 1,011 white non-Muslims (WNM) aged 18 to 30 in May 2019 by Savanta ComRes, also found that found that 9 per cent of young Muslims believe that “Engaging with non-Muslim institutions, like UK politics” means you are “a traitor to Islam” and “not a true believer”.

    A slightly higher 11 per cent agreed that such engagement “undermines the Muslim community”.

    A lower 9 per cent of white non-Muslims (WNMs) felt that “People should be prepared to go out and fight to defend their religion or culture with force”, with 17 per cent agreeing that “British culture is under threat from invasion”.

    The number of young Muslims and white non-Muslims who believe that “There is an unresolvable conflict between Islam and the West” was tied at 19 per cent each — although more than twice as many young Muslims believe “Conflict between the West and Islam would be a good thing”, at 9 per cent to 4 per cent for WNMs.

    Perhaps surprisingly, the researchers noted that, “as opposed to the two-fifths of [white non-Muslim] respondents who have negative attitudes about Islam, only a small minority stray into clear white supremacist views such as that all Brits should strive to ensure our country is white (7 per cent) and that you are not truly British unless you are white (6 per cent).”

    On this basis, they conceded that what they described as “far-right sentiment” among young white Britons ” is framed around culture rather than race.”

    Curiously they also found that significantly more white non-Muslims “Feel discriminated for their race” (37 per cent) than Muslims (28 per cent).

    However, 34 per cent of young Muslims said they “are systematically targeted in the UK and globally” for their religion, while 18 per cent alleged that “British society is intrinsically anti-Muslim”.

    It may the case that young Muslims who approve of cultural conflict and the use of force feel more strongly than their white British contemporaries, given there have been many more terror attacks by Islamists in Britain than attacks associated with the far right, in addition to hundreds of people defecting to jihadist enterprises such as the Islamic State.

    This was not measured by the study, however.”

    Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto will be the only EU diplomatic leader to attend the signing ceremony on Tuesday in Washington for the Israel-United Arab Emirates peace deal, his spokesman said on Sunday.

    “At the invitation of US President Donald Trump, as the only European Union minister, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto will also attend … the signing ceremony in the White House on Tuesday,” Mate Paczolay told Hungarian news agency MTI.

    Under the accord, which Trump helped broker, Israel agreed to suspend its planned annexation of areas of the occupied West Bank. The agreement also firms up opposition to regional power Iran, which the UAE, Israel and the United States view as the main threat in the conflict-riven Middle East.

    Trump, who is heading into the homestretch of his presidential re-election campaign, announced the accord last month. On Friday, he said Bahrain would join the agreement.

    Major European powers like France and the UK welcomed the Israel-UAE deal, as did the European Union executive, which said it was good for regional stability.

    “General Dhalan Al Hamad, a member of the royal family in Qatar, used gold from Uganda to fund this arms trade,” the report states.

    Weaponry was purchased in Serbia. The arms, labeled as building materials, were moved through North Macedonia to the Greek port of Thessaloniki and on to Beirut.
