Reader’s Links for September 3rd, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

This is what you need to know about the woman arrested yesterday.
Yesterday the world witnessed the young pregnant mother, Zoe-lee Buhler, being arrested in front of her children for a Facebook post.
Today, the premier and the assistant police commissioner are lying.

  2. Communist revolution or insurgency automatically comes with a flip side. This is an opportunity to clean house, put the adults back in charge, and eliminate the social and economic garbage that has been piling up under the debt-based monetary system. Few would disagree that it is long in the tooth (moreso when Covid debt is added). It now clearly advantages the left over the creators of wealth. One need only behold the maniac Mayor of NYC to know where to start defunding. Imagine, the greatest city in the world.

    https://www.arabnews.com/node/1728876/middle-east

“Turkey is expanding restrictions imposed on social gatherings such as wedding and engagement parties and henna nights in more than a dozen provinces to the entire country.

An Interior Ministry circular sent to Turkey’s 81 provinces late Wednesday says such social gatherings will banned from Friday. Marriage registration ceremonies will be allowed but will be restricted to one hour only.

The decision came after the health minister said the country is experiencing the second peak of the first wave of the coronavirus outbreak and blamed gatherings at weddings and holidays.

The number of daily infections have tipped above 1,500 — levels previously seen in mid-June. More than 273,000 people have tested positive for the virus in Turkey since March.”

  15. Italy Imam Condemns Charlie Hebdo Reprint of Mohammed Cartoons (breitbart, Sep 3, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/09/03/italian-imam-condemns-charlie-hebdo-reprint-mohammed-cartoons/

“Imam Yahya Pallavicini, president of the Italian Islamic Religious Community (Coreis), has condemned the republishing of Charlie Hebdo Mohammed cartoons.

The Muslim leader told Italian media the publication was “a confirmation of their insensitivity and their crude pursuit of notoriety based on provocation and unintelligent satire”.

Ezzedin Elzir, who serves as Imam of Florence and is a former president of the Union of Islamic Communities and Organisations in Italy, also criticised the move, saying, according to Il Giornale: “Unfortunately, for the umpteenth, time freedom of expression is confused with the offence of another. Charlie Hebdo has offended millions of Muslims. This is not satire, which is needed in society.”

According to a new poll taken by the French Institute of Public Opinion (Ifop), the French public has a very different view on the cartoons.

The Ifop poll revealed that 59 per cent of the French public were in favour of the publication of the cartoons, a result 21 per cent higher than a similar survey taken in 2006.

Charlie Hebdo reprinted the cartoons ahead of the trial for those alleged to have been involved in the attack on the satirical newspaper’s offices in January 2015 that saw radical Islamic terrorists kill 12 people, many of them on the newspaper’s editorial team.

Hebdo‘s director Laurent Sourisseau, known as “Riss”, commented on the publication, saying: “There was a need for a good reason to do it, a reason which has meaning and which brings something to the debate… to [reprint the pictures] this week at the opening of the trial of the January 2015 attacks, seemed essential to us.”

The magazine has seen many criticisms and threats over the years due to its caricatures, including from supporters of scholar Tariq Ramadan who was accused of rape by a woman in 2017, accused by another woman in 2019, and two more women earlier this year.

This week, the former Oxford scholar announced he would be launching a new centre to teach feminism.”

[…]In an official statement, the observatory said the magazine’s “insistence on the criminal act of republishing the offensive cartoons fuels hate speech and inflames feelings between followers of different religions.”

[…]It added that this decision impedes global efforts led by major religious institutions aimed at establishing dialogue between religions, as exemplified in the signing of the Document of Human Fraternity between Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Vatican’s Pope Francis in February 2019.

  16. German Migrant Taxi NGO Sends New Ship to the Mediterranean (breitbart, Sep 3, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/09/03/german-migrant-taxi-ngo-deploys-new-ship-mediterranean/

“The German migrant transport NGO Sea-Eye has announced it is ready to set sail on a new mission to pick up migrants in the Mediterranean and bring them to Europe in a vessel bigger than their last.

The NGO announced their new vessel, the Ghalib Kurdi, named after the brother of drowned toddler Alan Kurdi, would be setting sail by the end of the year. Currently stationed at the port of Regensburg in Germany, the NGO is only waiting for equipment and the formal transfer of ownership.

Sea-Eye fundraised for the vessel and mission with the support of several groups, including the Roman Catholic church in Germany, which the NGO singled out for praise, newspaper Il Giornale reports.

The NGO’s other vessel, the Alan Kurdi, was seized by Italian authorities but was allowed to leave in June. It remains at the port of Burriana in Spain.

Sea-Eye has allegedly been hesitant to resume migrant transport operations off the Libyan coast, fearing that their ship could be seized by Italian authorities again.

The decision to launch a new vessel mirrors moves by another German migrant transport NGO, Sea-Watch, which had its ship, the Sea-Watch 3, seized in July after it had brought at least 28 migrants infected with Chinese coronavirus to Italy.

Last month, the group launched another vessel, the Sea-Watch 4, which has transported 353 migrants to Italy this week. It is expected to drop them off in Palermo on Wednesday where they will be quarantined due to the pandemic.

Also in the Mediterranean is the vessel Louise Michel, named after a French anarchist and funded by the British street artist Banksy.

Dubbed the “Banksy Boat”, the vessel is captained by former Sea-Watch member Pia Klemp, who was arrested by Italian authorities in 2019 on charges of aiding illegal migration. Last weekend, the Banksy Boat became stranded at sea after becoming overloaded with more than 200 migrants.

Sicily governor Nello Musumeci and Lampedusa mayor Toto Martello have both expressed anger at the Italian leftist coalition government over the increase in landings, with Governor Musumeci planning to shut down migrant reception areas in Sicily.

  18. Monitor: Strikes on east Syria kill 16 Iran-backed fighters (abcnews, Sep 3, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/monitor-strikes-east-syria-kill-16-iran-backed-72791325

“A Syrian opposition war monitor said airstrikes on eastern Syria believed to have been carried out by Israeli warplanes early Thursday killed 16 Iranian-backed fighters.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes hit positions of Iranian-backed fighters near the towns of Mayadeen and Boukamal close to the Iraqi border.

There was no official comment from Syrian state media, which reported an airstrike late Wednesday on the T4 air base in the central province of Homs.

There were also Israeli strikes Monday night that, according to Syrian state media, hit military posts south of the capital Damascus killing two Syrian soldiers and wounding seven others.

Israel rarely comments on such reports, but is believed to have carried out dozens of raids targeting Iran’s military presence in Syria.

The Observatory said the airstrike near Boukamal killed nine fighters while the strike near Mayadeen killed seven. It added that other fighters were also wounded in the strikes.

Since June, Syria has accused Israel of conducting at least nine air raids on its territory.

Iran, a key ally of the Syrian government, is considered by Israel a regional and security threat. Israel has vowed to prevent any permanent Iranian military buildup in Syria, particularly near the frontier.”

  19. Turkish Defence Minister Calls Out French ‘Mafiosi’ Acting Like ‘Guardian Angels’ in Mediterranean (sputniknews, Sep 3, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/202009031080355673-turkish-defence-minister-calls-out-french-mafiosi-acting-like-guardian-angels-in-mediterranean/

“The Turkish-Greek conflict over exclusive rights to sea areas in the eastern Mediterranean Sea escalated again this week, with the US approving non-lethal military exports to Cyprus, Greece announcing talks with France for Rafale fighter jets, and Athens slamming Ankara’s decision to extend seismic surveying activities off Greek-claimed waters.

Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar has attacked France’s interference in the Turkish-Greek dispute in the Mediterranean, accusing Paris of acting like ‘mafiosi’.

“There are some ‘mafiosi’ here whose actions are hard to comprehend. For example, France: you’re not a guarantor country, there are no agreements between you [and regional nations], you’re not even the European Union’s representative on this matter, so what right do you have to interfere here?” Akar asked, speaking Thursday during an inspection of forces at Turkey’s Combined Air Operations Center.

“If you want to singlehandedly ‘show your heroism’, take note that the time of gangsters and mafiosi has already passed. We do not seek to escalate tensions, but only…protect our interests and rights, and no one can interfere with us,” the defence minister warned.

Akar added that Turkey would not accept “those who come from thousands of kilometers away and try to bully, claim rights and play the role of guardian angel.”

Regarding Turkey’s dispute with Greece, the defence minister accused that country’s leaders of thinking in a way “that does not conform to reason and logic,” and warning Athens that “even if you bring the whole world together, you will never be able to tell us that ‘two times two is five.’…Cyprus is our national cause, we will protect the rights of our brothers and sisters there the same way in 2020 as we protected the law in 1974,” he said, referring to the 1974 Turkish invasion of the island.

The defence minister was accompanied during his visit to the Combined Air Operations Center by Chief of General Staff Gen Yasar Guler, Land Forces commander Gen. Umit Dundar, Naval Forces commander Adm. Adnan Ozbal and Air Force commander Gen. Hasan Kucukakyuz.

During the visit, Akar donned a flight suit and took a flight through the contested Aegean Sea in a Turkish Air Force F-16 in a show of force to Greece.

    Turkish-French Diplomatic Spat Heats Up
The Turkish defence minister’s comments follow earlier remarks by the country’s Foreign Ministry warning President Emmanuel Macron that Ankara wouldn’t accept any Syrian-style ‘red lines’ from Paris, and adding that “if there is a red line in the region, it belongs to Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots.”

Last week, Macron warned that “when it comes to Mediterranean sovereignty” France had “to be consistent in deeds and words,” and added that France’s policy on the dispute was similar to its policy in Syria before the 2018 bombing of the country by French, British and US warplanes.

France sent warships and aircraft to the Mediterranean amid the dispute, and has engaged in joint drills with the Greek, Italian and Cypriot militaries. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned France and Greece that Ankara would be ready to “pay any price” to defend its interests.

On Tuesday, the US announced that it would be lifting restrictions related to the export of non-lethal defence articles to Cyprus after praising the island nation as a key US partner in the Eastern Mediterranean. The same day, a Greek official told reporters that Athens was in negotiations with France and other countries on the purchase of weapons, including French Rafale fighter jets.

On August 31, Turkey issued another Navtext message on the extension of the Oruc Reis vessel’s seismic surveying activity in an area off Antalya and west of Cyprus until September 12, prompting Athens to accuse Ankara of “diligently performing” its “role as a disruptor and instability factor in the region.”

Tensions between Turkey and Green began escalating in early August, after the Oruc Reis began searching for gas in an area claimed by Greece. Turkey began the drilling activities immediately after Greece and Egypt signed a maritime agreement on August 6 dividing large swathes of the Mediterranean between them into exclusive economic zones. The Greek-Egyptian agreement followed the signature of a similar treaty by Turkey and the Ankara-backed government in western Libya in late 2019, with that treaty also making an EEZ claim to large areas of the Mediterranean.

The EU has called on Ankara to stop its unilateral drilling activities, and threatened to impose sanctions if negotiations fail. Turkey has responded by accusing Brussels of supporting Greece’s “maximalist demands” instead of acting as an honest mediator.”

  20. France: One in Four Young Muslims Refuse to Condemn Charlie Hebdo Terror Killings (breitbart, Sep 3, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/09/03/over-quarter-french-muslim-youth-refuse-condemn-charlie-hebdo-terror-attack/

“A survey released by the Institut Français d’Opinion Publique (Ifop) has revealed that 26 per cent of French Muslims under the age of 25 refuse to condemn the 2015 Charlie Hebdo terror killings.

The study, which was undertaken in partnership with the satirical newspaper itself, revealed that 59 per cent of the French general public supported Charlie Hebdo‘s right to publish depictions of the Islamic prophet Mohammed — 21 per cent more than a similar study in 2006.

However, five per cent of Muslims say they do not condemn the actions of the radical Islamic terrorists who committed the attack, and when broken down by age, over a quarter of those under 25 said they would not condemn killings, while 12 per cent said they condemn the attack but share the values of the attackers.

72 per cent of all Muslims denounced the 2015 massacre — but this majority is still significantly lower than the figure for the public at large, with 88 per cent of the general population condemning the killings.

41 per cent of Muslims said they would not participate in a minute’s silence for the victims, and a quarter of Muslims said they would even hurl insults during ceremonies to honour those slain.

Gérard Biard, editor-in-chief of Charlie Hebdo, commented on the results, saying: “In 2020, when you’re between 15 and 24, freedom of expression is probably not a priority, unlike the fable maintained by billionaires who own social networks.”

He added that the inability of younger people to condemn the terror attacks was a major problem, calling it “more complicated and explosive” than issues surrounding the current Wuhan virus outbreak.

The spread of Islamist theology and ideology has been a significant problem in France in recent years, despite President Emmanuel Macron being forced to shut down several associations and schools linked to radicalism.

A leaked report earlier this year from the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) said that as many as 150 neighbourhoods across France were “held” by radical Islamic extremists.”

While I fully expect Trump to win and win by a big enough margin the left will have to reason to sue I know that they will still protest. All of the evidence says that they are getting ready to claim voter suppression and vote fraud in all states, this thought is furthered by Hillary telling Biden not to concede no matter what. The left plans for massive protests, riots and a civil war after the election.)

    The Guns of November
By Myra Kahn Adams September 3, 2020

A veteran GOP political strategist told me he likens the current state of America to pressure building inside a volcano and predicts, “It will blow its top immediately after the election.”

Living in Florida, perhaps I watch too much of The Weather Channel, but my own election natural disaster analogy resembles the tracking of a monster hurricane as it moves closer to the U.S. mainland. Based on present conditions, we know at least a Category 3 will strike late on Nov. 3 and gather strength on Nov. 4 or 5. Virtually everyone is aware of the potential for devastation, and millions are taking pro-active precautions — buying guns and ammunition.

Last month, Fox Business reported, “Gun sales surged 135% year-over-year in July to about 2 million and have already matched all of last year, according to a report released earlier this week by research consultancy Small Arms Analytics and Forecasting. Sales were up 145% in June, 80% in May and 71% in April.”

  23. Facebook to double down on censoring political speech; Zuckerberg cites ‘increased risk of civil unrest across the country’

With just two months left until the U.S. presidential election, Facebook says it is taking more steps to encourage voting, minimize misinformation and reduce the likelihood of post-election “civil unrest.”

The company said Thursday it will restrict new political ads in the week before the election and remove posts that convey misinformation about COVID-19 and voting. It will also attach links to official results to posts from candidates and campaigns that declare premature victories.

“This election is not going to be business as usual. We all have a responsibility to protect our democracy,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on Thursday. “That means helping people register and vote, clearing up confusion about how this election will work, and taking steps to reduce the chances of violence and unrest.”

Facebook and other social media companies are being scrutinized over how they handle misinformation, given issues with President Donald Trump and other candidates posting false information and Russia’s ongoing attempts to interfere in U.S. politics.

They are running with a dubious report cooked up by the deep state titled, “Russia Likely to Denigrate Health of US Candidates to Influence 2020 Election,” in which it was alleged that “Russian malign influence actors are likely to continue denigrating presidential candidates through allegations of poor mental or physical health to influence the outcome of the 2020 election.”

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf felt no need to publicize the intelligence bulletin because of its absurd nature.

Trending: LEAKED CHATS: Biden Campaign Volunteers Instructed Not to Talk About Actual Policy

“The report that you reference was at the end of the day a very poorly written report,” Wolf said to Fox News. “When I talked to career officials in I&A, in the office that produced the report, they also had questions about it. 25. UN says new polio outbreak in Sudan caused by oral vaccine
By MARIA CHENG, AP Medical Writer Sep. 2, 2020 Updated: Sep. 2, 2020 4:19 a.m.
    Comments

LONDON (AP) — The World Health Organization says a new polio outbreak in Sudan is linked to an ongoing vaccine-sparked epidemic in Chad — a week after the U.N. health agency declared the African continent free of the wild polio virus.

    https://www.expressnews.com/news/article/UN-says-new-polio-outbreak-in-Sudan-caused-by-15536513.php

    • “Two out of three strains of wild polio virus have been eradicated worldwide. On Tuesday [25 Aug 2020], Africa was declared free of the last remaining strain of wild poliovirus. More than 95% of Africa’s population has now been immunised…

“Now only the vaccine-derived polio virus remains in Africa, with 177 cases being identified this year.

“This is a rare form of the virus that mutates from the oral polio vaccine and can then spread to under-immunised communities.… [C]ases in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic and Angola.…

“Since 1996, billions of oral polio vaccines have been provided, averting an estimated 1.8 million cases of wild poliovirus.

      “Could wild polio return?
Polio can be easily imported into a country that is polio free and from there it can spread rapidly among under-immunised populations. This happened in Angola, which despite decades of civil war, defeated polio in 2001. The country remained free from polio for 4 years until 2005, when a number of cases were thought to have been brought in from outside the country.…”
      https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-53887947
      …..
Prior to the vaccination campaign, “polio was paralyzing an estimated 75,000 children annually on the African continent.”
      https://www.afro.who.int/news/africa-eradicates-wild-poliovirus
      ….
This is a RARE strain of polio – 177 cases vs 75,000/year before the vaccine. Those are the odds when considerable herd immunity has already been achieved. Work at eliminating this complication, but don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.

Anti-vaxxers will headline “vaccine-derived” as an “ah-hah!” without context. They’ll sell you vitamin-P and saunas, utter dire warnings about everything from deodorant to iPhones.

Every quack will promote his duck. Anybody who can monetize conspiracy theories will have at it.

  26. The Trump administration is considering invoking a law normally used to prosecute members of the Mafia to crack down on violent protests gripping the nation.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized the demonstrations and has even dispatched the National Guard and federal agents to help quell the unrest after the death of George Floyd on Memorial Day. Now, the administration is talking about using the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act to prosecute the people behind the protests.

The Daily Beast noted that Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf raised the idea during an interview earlier this week.

“Well, this is something that I have talked to [Attorney General William Barr] personally about. I know that they are working on it,” Wolf said.
